The best restaurants serving British food in West Midlands

Waited ages for salad bowls and my medium rate steak was almost alive and crawling off my plate!! Normally our visits here are uneventful so quite unhappy.

We have been here lots of times and have had great meals. Today wasnt one of those days. One of the meals ordered was steak and ale pie with veg and mashed potato. The pie was concrete solid, the pastry so thick and tough it was inedible. It contained a paltry sum of four miniscule bits of steak that were drowning in a sea of gravy within the pie. The veg was squishy on the outside and hard in the middle mis-shapen in a sad protest having been nuked, and the mashed potato was not fresh. If you like your food microwaved, this is the place for you! The two other meals we had were mediocre at best. We came away feeling disappointed due to the quality of the food, and having spent circa £50, we felt it wasnt VFM. Not good at all.

Whitbread should be ashamed of themselves as I complained on the first Sunday in June and still waiting. Nobody cares and just read it's closing this week due to lack of performance. Shocking experience

Had dinner with two friends on a Saturday night. It was quiet and we couldn’t understand why. The food was excellent and the atmosphere was warm and cosy with a nice fire. The small team looked after us extremely well and we had a very enjoyable evening. My English friend was raving about the quality of the food, she said that it was exceptional for an English pub to serve such good food. We thought it was good value and a really nice experience. Thank you.

Rated 3 out of 5 due to the food being average. And as always the chefs have a radio in the kitchen with bass booming ,it's all I could concentrate on. Surely the manager knows this isn't ok. I couldn't wait to get out of the place

Our server Charlotte B was amazing, her commitment to customer service was exceptional. The Sunday dinner was great and really good value, would thoroughly recommend.

Again the plough delivered with the breakfast, fresh hot and as much as you like. Young lad that served us (glasses and tattoos) very friendly. (Connor I believe).

A real mixed bag, my husband had fish and chips and the couple who were with us had scampi and chips and all was hot and tasty. Unfortunately I opted for flat bread with halloumi, this was not hot or tasty. I was served a very crisp flat bread, it was too hard to cut with a knife, but so much fun cracking it with my hands. The halloumi was rather thinly cut, it was golden brown on one side and white on the other. I have no idea how it was cooked, but it was so tough I could have sold my shoes with it. The plate looked as if the food had been sitting around under heat lamps for some time. Yes I should have complained at the time, but couldn't be bothered to mare a fuss so simply ate some of the food and left the rest. Why can the kitchen get 3 meals so right and one a total disaster?

También es agradable cuando su personal te conoce, lo que hace que el restaurante sea mucho mejor y amable. Hay un miembro del personal que es excepcional y esa persona es Donna m ella es una camarera fantástica también hace muy sonreír y siempre quiere volver también se toma el tiempo hablando con los clientes que me parece bien porque siempre se puede ir sintiéndose feliz. Me da tanta pena que cierre las puertas

Had our last breakfast here on the last day before they closed for good. Food amazing as usual. Very sad day. This restaurant has been a landmark for 50 years & yet no one still knows what the future holds for this building. There is nothing like it round here & nowhere for Premier Inn guest to eat. So short sighted of Whitbread to close such a busy iconic business. The staff are devastated. BIG MISTAKE WHITBREAD!! THIS WAS NOT AN UNDER PERFORMING SITE!! Gutted

Excellent food and service. Would highly recommend. Beer choice from local brewery also great. Roast dinner was marvellous, the beef was excellent. Pudding was likewise splendid Andrew

there is no broccoli i am not happy with this place but all of that other food was very nice. meat was great chewyness and lovely mash

Good pub food, great atmosphere and really helpful, efficient and friendly staff. Served by Ceri and Maisie, who were very nice. Clare is a fantastic smiley member of staff.

Sophie’s service was excellent 5* service, food was lovely and all the staff were friendly and always ready to help out.
