Bear Inn in Solihull

We really enjoyed our meal. There was a good menu to choose from and service was excellent. It was great value for money and we will definitely go back!

I received an email from The Bear Inn saying there is a fantastic offer for Sunday Lunch 2 courses for £20. I booked it for me and my partner for 18.00 Sunday as we were busy during the day. On arrival the pub was largely empty. We ordered a prosecco and red wine. Upon arrival tge prosecco glass had clearly not been washed and had lipstick on it. The starters were OK. The main course however was a big disappointment, the colliflower cheese side, which cost extra was sitting in a pool of discolored watery liquid, and cold. The beef was brittle and as if it was cooked the say before. The potatoes and veg were cold and dehyrated and had obviously been cooked many hours before and been reheated. The service was appalling had to ask several times for drinks and condiments. I have been to the Bear many times over the years previously. I was truely shocked how the quality and service has deteriorated since I last visited 2 years ago. Very sad this place needs new management and investment if it is going to survive.

I cannot express how bitterly disappointed I am with the experience we received tonight. It was extremely obvious to me that they were short staffed however…..that does not give somebody to reason to be an extremely rude. Myself and my partner came for Sunday dinner and what we experienced and received was nothing short of a joke. The meals were not up to standard. After previously recommending this place to our friends and family I am in disbelief. The food was mediocre at best and was luke warm. We asked for extra gravy and it came as we were nearly finished. I hate to comment on an individual however I must express how rude myself and my partner found the waitress. There was no real interaction or interest in either one of us. I must however state that the young gentlemen on the bar apologised for any inconvenience we had experienced this evening and assured us that it is not usual standards. We have never had a bad meal or time at the bear inn but after hearing others around us it was clear that it wasn’t just us who felt this way. The usual faces were not there, I assume there has been a turn over in staff and not for the better I am afraid to say. A fantastic restaurant that has clearly headed for a steep slope. Very disappointed.

Sticky floor, The beer was awful the cider was awful, we were going to stop for food but based on the taste of the drinks we didn’t bother.

Another brilliant Saturday night out at the Bear. Excellent service as usual from Josh, Elouise, Cameron & another lovely new guy (don’t know his name) Service is always impeccable & again best in the area compared to other restaurants. My daughter was back from Canada for a flying visit, and this was the pub she chose to go to celebrate her birthday. We weren’t disappointed. Fabulous service, phenomenal food and a wonderful experience, as usual.

Wow! We came to the bear for dinner last week and all I can say is incredible. The staff were so much inviting than we have found before and the food was amazing. I had the steak and ale pie which never disappoints and my wife had the fish and chips. We went with friends who also had the fish and Steve had a steak. All meals were cooked perfectly and the staff made the experience. The whole team had this brilliant bond which was clear to see. I have later found that there has been a change in management which shows massively. Well done to all at the bear it has really come along and it was a pleasure and we can’t wait to return!

I went to the bear inn with my family today and I was very impressed and pleased with the service and food. I was politely welcomed into the bear and we were seated with ease. Visited the bear this afternoon after our morning walk. We didn’t booked a table but they still fit us in despite being busy. Service was excellent and the food was delightful. Myself and my friend both have the lunch time fish cake. It was the perfect amount for a lunchtime meal. We will definitely be using the bear on our future walks.

Not been there for many years. We're not local but we met friends and The Bear is half way between us. We first visited about 2 months ago and decided to meet there again. It's a lovely pub and dog friendly. Which is what we look for when deciding where to meet. My only complaint is that the food is not completely 100%. My husband, who isnt a fussy eater, had the pie, which he said was nice. The vegetables however looked horrible. Carrots dry and rubbery.. Brocoli dry. 2 of us had the gammon, served with pineapple which I initially thought were pieces of foam! On cutting, it was rock-hard and dry. The peas again were dry and appeared to have been sat a while. As we left, our friends said...it's a lovely pub, just a shame about the food. Whether we'll return is debatable. It's too far to just come for a drink without food. Shame.

Arrived with no booking after being let down by two other places and were greeted with the most friendly staff and best customer service I've encountered for a long time. despite there being 6 of us, we were accommodated on a lovely table in no time and given menus and a drinks order by Andrew. This lad's service was exceptional all night long, not just for us but to everyone he served. He deserves recognition. The menu was good and not too pricey, there were lovely specials and our order was taken quickly. The food arrived without much of a wait and was really nice, very impressed. The waiter remembered our drinks order and was very attentive without being intrusive and made sure we lacked nothing. Desserts were to die for. Will certainly be visiting again and would recommend.

Great service and a friendly host and waitress. We ordered the Sunday roast. I would say the quality is good but the temperature could have been warmer and the potatoes and parsnips more roasted. But a lovely atmosphere and good staff.

My wife thought it would be a nice surprise to go back to the Bear we were left very disappointed, a Vintage Inn with no Shiraz ! absolutely unbelievable ! Appalls draught cider nothing like the usual fresh crisp taste you get then when the gammon came no English mustard it will be a long time before we return.

Excellent pub! Lovely Ye Old England feel to it. Not only that, dog friendly, brilliant staff and the food was unbelievable, especially the halloumi ciabatta! Would definitely recommend.

Good afternoon. Having been a favourite venue for family and friends over a number of years, today’s visit was very disappointing. The service was slow and quality of food Has deteriorated. After not visiting The Bear Inn in many years, a group of us dined there before Christmas and again last night. The food each time for all 6 of us in the party, was delicious. Last night we went for their set 4 course Burns Night celebration dinner. The menu was lovely and all the dishes were made from first rate ingredients and cooked to perfection. There is certainly a great kitchen crew - well done guys. My new favourite place.

Popped in on the off chance for a table this afternoon for lunch on our way back from an a lovely walk of the local area . we were greeted by a very friendly member of staff who showed us to our table. We were informed about the specials which all sounded lovely which we will be trying upon our return over the weekend. I opted for the salmon florentine and my friend the scampi and chips. We were both equally impressed by our meals. The two young girls who served us were very attentive and couldn’t do enough for us. They both seemed to extremely enjoy their jobs which clearly showed. On our review card the names written were Kerri and Elouise, well done girls you did a brilliant job!!
