The White Horse in Solihull

Really disappointed after our visit today , haven’t been to the White Horse for a while , however found a huge difference in service and more importantly food . Charging nearly £20 for a Sunday roast and offering a sub standard meal ( which one was cold and returned) was not what we were after , no service , no napkins, no accompaniments . Not good!! . Felt like we were in a cheap pub rather than a good restaurant as it was before :( The White Horse previously had a great reputation for both service and good quality food being served … which is no more . Need to up your game guys if you want repeat business !!

First time here got there 12ish for lunch had all day breakfast was not good cheap sausage well overcooked mushrooms not nice overcooked bacon tomatoes chips and egg seemed freshly cooked so we’re fine was expecting much better quality for the price think it was 13 pound the pub itself was lovely staff were pleasant but there was a man who kept dragging the tables about very annoying. I know l should of complained but l l was so hungry l ate what l could and nobody came over to ask how it was so l will not be returning

Some lack of knowledge around the menu and meal ingredients. Menu has a 'plant based' leaf symbol next to some dishes (leaf symbol identified as meaning 'plant based' on the back of the menu) but the plant based meal I ordered had an item that contained egg in it. When I drew attention of this to the staff tried to make out the symbol meant vegetarian which it obviously does not as stated by their own menu - so it was very frustrating to be told that. All said, either the menu, or the meal preparation in the kitchen is incorrect but I was made to feel it was my error when all I did was follow the menu in good faith. I asked for a refund as the attitude from the manager was quite hostile and no understanding or apology was forthcoming. I'd lost trust in the kitchen so a replacement was out the question. I said thank you but the money was thrust at me without a word. Shame as it looks like a nice pub and I was there with someone else and their experience was also tainted by this. Just a bit of education around what 'plant-based' means in terms of ingredients in food used is needed and a more customer friendly attitude :)

I have been going here for best part of 30 years and the menu is the worst I've ever seen. They dont do pizzas on a sunday or fish and chips or any other normal food. The most pretentious and limited menu ive ever seen. Not going back. 16/04/24. Update. They have seen sense, and the menu is back to what it used to be. So yes, I have been back a few times. They are forgiven.

First of all, staff here where great. Unfortunately, the food was mainly awful. 'crispy' BBQ chicken wings seemed microwaved and just had BBQ sauce squeezed on them. Portions where tiny, Jumbo fish and chips with a portion of scampi was normal size at best with 3 pieces of scampi at £16.50. ALL food was lukewarm at the most not very hot at all. Only positive apart from staff was the burger was decent but again tiny portions for the price. Would definitely not return.

Regrettably, the poorest quality food tends to be found in pubs, especially as you venture further from London. During our work travels in this area, we struggled to find a single satisfactory place for lunch. However, it's worth noting that the establishments were clean and devoid of any unpleasant odors.

We had a celebration for my son in the function room last week and it was a great experience from start to finish! It's a lovely private room with garden access and the buffet food was really fantastic! All of our family and friends commented on the quality of the food and we had an all round amazing day! Thank you Luke and Georgia!

Very poor quality Sunday roast We had the Chicken roast and the Super roast !! Meat was processed !! Chicken rubber like, Gammon not good, beef over done and tough.... Gravy watery, veg not the best.. roast spuds soggy.... Yorkshire was nice... Nice decor......but sorry we won't be back....

Nice pub, nice food, nice atmosphere

Good machine made coffee, but still, machine made at best. Food looks very promising, but don't be deceived, they're really dry.

Nive pub but kitchen was shut by the time we.got there so cannot speak to the food offering. Keeping the kitchen open later would possibly get this to a 5 star

Had the large burger meal, it was the size of a normal burger meal at other restaurants so I'd hate to see the size of their 'normal' burgers. Sweets are just a rip off, you don't even get a scoop of ice cream!

The pub has a contemporary style and good ceiling lights, all in all pleasant to the eyes BUT the food we had was rather disappointing. We ordered Full English breakfast for £13 a head. On the menu amongst the ingredient it says Eggs, as you would expect! When the plates arrived there was only one egg, a tiny little tasteless sausage, little bacon, the smallest portion of beans, I really mean tiny, a mushroom, half tomato and chunky chips! The chips tasted horrible, the oil used for cooking must have first been used last century, rancid after taste. No bread! The positive thing is that we asked for toasted bread and out of the chef's courtesy they brought us one slice each! Wow! Rather disappointed because the place is pleasant but won't go back for food for sure, and for what we got and the quality...it's expensive. What a shame!

Went on Monday and had the 241 burgers which were excellent and made even better by the deal. Service was excellent and the food was lovely and hot when served which makes a pleasant change nowadays!

Hired the function room for a private party and it was a great space. Staff are very friendly and attentive and easy going. We had a buffet and the food was great. Simple food, but good selection of sandwiches and sides. We could decorate the room too to make it more special for us. Would highly recommend coming here for evening dinner, just a drink or to use the function room. Fab local pub!

It's a really nice pub but a bit on the pricey side for drinks.

Perfectly cooked fish in delicious batter, only complaint was that it isn't a very exciting menu, although we all found something that we enjoyed. Pleasant, helpful young man served us well. Not many other customers in which meant excellent service.

Recently visited the White Horse for Sunday lunch, we had the roast beef and gammon and would highly recommend it. Roast potatoes to die for, be sure to order a side of cauliflower cheese - delicious. Staff were very welcoming and attentive. We will most definitely be returning to try more of the menu.

Nice pub with great decoration. Heated area outside with tiled floor which looks amazing. Artificial blossom tree inside with lights on it which was a great photo opportunity :) Monday evening I went to the place was very quiet with just a few in there. It would be nice to see how it gets on a Friday or Saturday night. £11 odd for a larger and a cider. I would recommend and I will be visiting again. Thanks

ever Sunday roast Beef pre packed tough dry, watery gravy Luke warm except for cauliflower cheese NOT worth it won’t have another. Shame used to be the best ever Sunday Roast now the worst in the area Forgot how awful it was and no one there who even cares. What was a quality pub is no longer George in the Tree better even on a bad day. Never the same since refurb.

Wife and I had an amazing Thursday dinner, steak cooked perfectly, and staff were quick to serve drinks, will be back again soon!

Great beer garden, hot tasty food, staff always looking after everyone and good selection of drinks.

Drinks are pricey and the selection of spirits leaves a lot to be desired, food is bang average but not value. Plenty of improvement still needed to make this a destination and not just a local for convenience.

I popped in here for a half and a pack of peanuts while waiting for the bus. Looked clean and tidy, staff were welcoming.

We came on for Sunday lunch it Wes fantastic so on Friday afternoon we decided to pop in for a bite to eat and the classic plowman,s on brown bread what came was seeded bread a bit of lettuce with pickle all over it and a sliver of processed cheese the worst one I have ever had.

My partner and I went there for a Sunday roast. It truly has to be the worst roast I’ve had in my life! The pub wasn’t busy, the football was on and we got there at 5.10pm. I ordered two chicken roasts, chicken wings and two drinks. After I ordered, a member of staff tells me they have no wings and instead I can have a glass of wine. We waited 50 minutes for our food! The chicken was chargrilled not roasted in an oven. It was hard and chewy. I asked for mine to be swapped for gammon instead. The gammon was sweaty and not cooked on the outside. It looked and taste awful! I had to send my cauliflower cheese back to be cooked under the oven/grill, as it was yet again undercooked. We had to rush our food because we had to be elsewhere. My whole experience was terrible if I’m honest. The food was so poor. I’m not sure how they get away with calling it a roast because a grill and microwave was used!

What a Lovely place, had a meal with my family this Thursday and it’s changed so much since I last visited. The large selection of food was great, my mother was really pleased with how many plant based options were offered, and the taste was just as good. The two handsome gentleman (Luke & Alex if I remember correctly) did a fantastic job helping us with the menu and I was so please with how they treated my disabled father, I would live here if I could, Thank you again Luke and Alex for providing the best experience I’ve ever received!

I will be back again! I Booked a table for Sunday lunch (catching up with old friends). I ordered the super roast and it was incredible, the two gentlemen on bar were extremely friendly and inviting. Thanks for the great night, I will definitely be returning again soon!

Food was stale and Cold. Service was bad. My waiter was rude and I had to send back my food twice!

“New chef” shouldn’t mean food is not as described and inedible. My kids abandoned their dinner and I couldn’t blame them. Cheese and tomato pasta came with no cheese, the tomato sauce was more like a weird sickly relish. Upon complaining no action taken. Waste of precious time and energy. Avoid.

Excellent food and a place to take your dogs.

It was Curry Night. The food was good and sitting outside was lovely, but the service is poor. Had to ask twice for our naan bread by which time we’d eaten our curry. Next time we’ll go to Weatherspoons, nicer, a lot quicker and cheaper by £3.

I had a great time with my family yesterday at the white horse, the staff were very accommodating to our needs and understanding when we needed help. I would love to mention a member of staff Quran apologies if miss spelt (he was a lovely tall Asian fellow) .He created a great atmosphere with his wonderful sense of humour. Thank you white horse

The White Horse was a great restaurant. Karan was a fantastic waiter who made our experience even better. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was perfect. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who is looking for a great dining experience.

For the first time we have had dinner here. The staff were polite and attentive especially hannah would really recommend her. Our dinner was provided promptly, and we all thoroughly loved it. We will undoubtedly return. We would suggest it.

This was our first visit as a treat for our daughter's birthday. It will also be our last. Considering we were one of only a very small number of customers at the time, it's amazing how poor the service was. It was so bad it was nonexistent by the time we left. We had to ask 3 times for a high chair (firstly on the booking, then twice in person). The order was taken and the wait for food wasn't long. The food itself wasn't bad (but it wasn't amazing either). But that is all I can say that is remotely positive. Nobody checked on us at all after that. Not once. We were left sitting there with empty plates for what must have been the best part of an hour. In the end we gave up hope of ever getting dessert, let alone the bill. So we chose to just pay at the bar and leave. Based on other reviews I have now read, poor service seems to be a recurring theme. Avoid! There are plenty of alternative options in the area that are decent.

Nice place but absolutely useless organisational skills. Genuinely awful experience. *Edit for context* Indeed, the card machines were down but I don’t blame them for this. However, despite the place being almost empty, the service was woefully slow with very little attention given to the table, a whole meal was missed from the order (which then didn’t arrived until the rest of us were finished). The bill was delivered wrong and the change given was £10 off so we had to go back. Thanks to this we missed our appointment after the meal. One of the managers frankly couldn’t care less, the other (in a grey checked shirt) was thankfully much more helpful and apologetic. You know who you are. As someone who previously worked in hospitality for 6 years, this was a complete shambles. Hiding behind the fact that your card machine wasn’t working doesn’t make it better either. Thanks.

Booked table by phone but no booking for us. However found us a table and then Ordered red wine. First choice not available, 2nd choice not available but third choice available more money at £28 Beef advertised as ‘pink’ which is what we like but came as precooked, warmed in microwave and tough as f dry. Oh dear what a shame we will not be going again 🥹

Large pub with lots of locals. Every pub in this town is around 5 quid a pint...

Great food served quickly with a smile. The atmosphere is chilled. There's no loud music so you can sit down and have a conversation which is nice. Plenty of parking and easy access.

Desserts absolutely horrendous don’t order the banoffee pie it isn’t fresh and the bananas were black .. the cookie was also like a brick. Very unfortunate I’ve put the photos onto trip advisor as I can’t upload them here

Great place held a wake there food was good

I used to love this place before the refurbishment. It had a really good menu. Now the menu is limited. My friend ordered the chicken curry, when it arrived, the rice was hot but the chicken and the curry sauce was tepid. Needless to say, it was sent back. I had the gammon steak which turned out to be two pieces of thick cut bacon and no peas. At the end of the meal my friend went to the loo. Two of the cubicles had the chain missing. When we went to pay we asked to speak to the manager...... He was too busy.

Had a terrible experience, ordered drinks today and when my wife’s drink didn’t taste right I had taken it back to the bar and the fella with the long hair had that’s how they are always made and just looked at me. Shocking! Never going back

Had a lovely lunch here on Monday with relatives. Food was enjoyable and plenty of it. Only downside was there was only one member of staff working behind the bar. Luckily enough the pub was quiet but there was a wait for a couple of items ordered. He was working hard but too many meals not enough hands to bring them out.

We had a party booked for 7 people sunday 2nd April yesterday we waited 20 to be offered a drink still no service i had to find a waitresse to order drinks,then half hour later they came to take food order, service was terrible then waited just over hour for food to arrive plates came out with meat etc then waited 10 minutes for veges by this time was cold we will not be visiting here again shame beautiful restaurant service was horrendous

Best food around fair priced food

We are so grateful to The White Horse for all they did for my 40th birthday on Saturday night. Rob and his team went above and beyond to ensure the bar was well stocked all night and that the service was great. The Stables function room at the back of the pub is the perfect size for a party, with plenty of tables and seating and plenty of parking too. The food on the night was great and we were given a good selection of options for our buffet to cater for both meat eaters and non meat eaters. As we were the first party the room hosted there are a some very small tweaks that could be made but these are really small, the ladies toilet needs a mirror now the refurb has taken place and labels for the the Buffett to ensure it’s obvious what is and isn’t vegetarian. Overall we had a really good experience and we felt lucky to live locally to such a good function room. Thanks again Rob and WH staff for the smooth running of a fantastic night.

Went on Sunday for a car meeting, it was a long wait for a coffee on a cold morning. Also a lot of broken glass in the car park.

Random stop off at pub driving through Balsall Common. 50% off meal offer for this month. All meals enjoyed. No complaints. Forgot to tip, so sorry! Will return. Dog friendly.

Had Christmas dinner here, great food and excellent service from the staff, would recommend.

We waited for 45 minutes in a nearly empty restaurant for sub par food! There was no mushrooms on the chicken dish and the "saute potatoes were just boiled new potatoes, carrots weren't as stated on the menu, wrong burger (ordered a double and got a single), pie pastry was tough and seemed microwaved, and banoffee pie was 75% cream 25% filling! Biscoff cheesecake was the only nice thing!

Cold, looked like an atmosphere vacuum. Sorry I didn't like the new look. So few people there.drinks were expensive and 2 portions of chips were ordered, I think there were approximately 10 chips in each cup!

Abit Rough, foods ok but overall seems very shady, a small local pub needing door staff is never a good sign. Guy behind the bar could of been abit more attentive.

Wonderful revamp, great new menu and staff were on point! Drew, in particular, was helpful, thoughtful and attentive making our early evening meal with our little boy, really pleasant. Definitely recommend, great vibe!

The pub/restaurant was almost completely empty due to the fact that the England World Cup Match was on? The food was shocking and the service was dire. The staff could not have cared less about our experience and I will not be going back.

Lovely Sunday lunch but prices steep compared to others locally

Really enjoyed my meal. I had the mushroom and truffle risotto starter which was beautifully flavoured and was a good portion. Fish and chips were solid 👌🏾

Food wasn't that good wouldn't go again. My partner had the rib eye steak very small he did question the size when ot arrived. He is a butcher said that it was not a 10oz more like a burger

Friendly staff and pleasant atmosphere

Not the best experience first time used the pub since refurbishment char grilled meat on Sunday dinner that took 50 mins to arrive staff very nice otherwise would be one star.

Came for a meal with a friend Tuesday evening, the restaurant was quiet however the food was amazing and the staff were very friendly. The young lad serving us was accommodating despite me being picky with the menu. I will definitely be going here again!

The pub has a great atmosphere and great staff but the food had way to much salt on and most of our food was ruined due to it.

We returned for Sunday Lunch having previously been and was a fantastic meal which was great value in a very busy environment however this time we arrived to a very quiet pub when we asked for the alternative menu rather than the very limited one supplied we were told it’s not available on Sundays ,after ordering beef Sunday dinner no horse radish sauce was available,the quality of the meat was poor and small portions all round,cauliflower cheese as an extra and was unable to cut the cauliflower as seemed to be uncooked not cheap or even reasonable prices very disappointing better can be had elsewhere would I return? maybe if nowhere else was available.overall opinion average to poor sorry guys

Very quiet but short staffed. Issues were raised, and the manager sorted us out. Food was nice.
