The Red Lion in Solihull

Popped out earlier today for lunch in the sun. My mobility isn't great, so I sought a table, while my son went to the bar for beers and menus. He works within the same group, so is very objective about waiting times/service etc. I thought he'd got lost, but he did explain, customer volume had exceeded staff numbers, but they'd had the good grace to explain, and that was no longer a problem. We're both massive dog lovers, so we soon found well behaved four legged distractions. Now knowing that we might wait a little for service, my son returned to order our food, and second drinks. The Signature Burgers were superb, proper quality beef, and onion rings to die for! We're big units, with healthy appetites, but felt no need for for additional courses, but both the Guinness and Thatchers, were both right on par. Can't say that of everywhere in the week of St Pats? The table servers were spot on, engaging and polite, the one fella even working past his allotted break, to make sure our needs were met, couldn't fault them. The custom around us, ebbed and flowed naturally enough, and if I had to withhold a star, some dog owners are not too responsible, and when you can hear the yapping above the road noise, you know the experience is about to descend. The other downside, the old chestnut, being the anti social smokers! Whether there's a designated area or not, the anti social among them, still managed to detract from a near perfect lunch. We will return, without doubt, it was just such a shame, that having driven out from the city, the outdoor experience was spoiled.

I hate giving negative reviews but the truth is it wasn't the best experience and I speak for the friend who was with me as well. Poor food quality and service.

Staff were extremely welcoming and friendly, they are professional throughout. The service was excellent. Klaudia served us very quickly and efficiently, as always, and could remember small details of things we liked from previous lunches there. The fish and chips I had were delicious and my husband was very happy with his not-too- thick pizza. The food at the Red Lion is very good indeed and is extremely good value for money.

Lovely pub- nice bar snacks (chorizo, whitebait, flatbread all for £12!) Bogdan was the perfect friendly host. Cheers

Ordered a pizza. After 30 minutes it had been forgotten. Reminded our waitress and had to wait another 15 minutes before the food arrived. Probably the poorest quality pizza I've eaten for many years. Lacking any taste or flavour, hard base and appeared to be a piece of cheddar on top.

There were 4 of us in our party. We had a booking for 6.30 (a Tuesday evening) we were shown to our seats, member of staff took our drinks order and promptly came back. From then on, it took us nearly 2 hours to take our food order, get the food to our table, to eat and get the bill! (We did enquire about the dessert menu but we ran out of time so git the bill instead!) The place wasn't overly busy, but there looked like there was only one server (who was lovely and apologetic!) and one person on the bar! The time it took didn't really ruin the evening, just would have been nice to have a dessert 🤣 food was lovely, and staff were great!

Had an enjoyable birthday meal on a busy Sunday afternoon I had hunter's chicken schnitzel as a main and double chocolate brownie for my pudding overall the food was very tasty only moan, my pudding could have been a bigger portion .

A really lovely, cosy dog friendly pub right next to the lakes. A perfect place for a stop off after a walk with easy parking just across the road and an amazing roast dinner on Sunday. The garden is also a perfect sun trap

Food was good but I didn’t get many chips. I counted them and there was 9. My son’s children’s meal had more chips than me. Service took a while but they were busy. The place was packed. The ale was exceptional and they allow dogs. A few more chips on my plate and you’ve got yourself a 5 star review.

Fantastic food and an excellent service. A relaxed family atmosphere, and loved the real fire! Elizabeth, our waitress, was wonderful, and truly helped to make our get-together with friends a memorable experience, especially as it was a special birthday occasion. Highly recommended 🙂

Very nice inside. Spacious. Good accessible toilet. Open fire. Only had chips, so I can't really comment on the food.

Friday 31st January 2025, My husband and I went out with our friend Marie to celebrate my husband's Birthday with lunch at ‘The Red Lion’ in Earlswood. We arrived for 1.30pm and we found a nice table for three in the lovely warm Library room in the pub. We looked at the menu and then went to the bar to order our food and drinks. Marie had the Hunters Chicken with lovely golden chips. My husband had the gammon with two eggs and golden chunky chips. I had the beer battered cod and golden chunky chips and mushy peas. The meals when they arrived were piping hot and very well presented. We washed all this lovely food down with a pint of IPA bitter for my husband. Marie had a large glass of red merlot wine and I had a large glass of rose zinfandel rose wine. We all had desserts; Marie had the Banoffee Choux Bun with whipped cream. My husband had the Allotment Crumble served with thick creamy custard. I had the mango and passion fruit ‘Eton’ mess, which was lovely and light and the perfect finish to my meal. Marie treated us to the meal..

We had a table for 2. Had a lunchtime meal here after hearing great things about the food and thought we would give it a try after a walk round the lakes. Unfortunately both meals were well over cooked. The chips were hard and burnt on the ends My Chicken Schnitzel was cremated . After taking the burnt batter off it was ok to be fair. We let the waitress know and she took one of the price of the drinks off the bill , but was still £55. So annoying you go for a meal and the one thing they have to get right is the food. Location was great , service was fast and friendly. Such a shame as were not going back now.

Our table was ready early, helpful friendly waitress and food came quickly, nice and hot.

Meal was excellent and served quite quickly. Atmosphere is very welcoming and warm. The man who served us was excellent as always. Very friendly but didn’t hassle us.

Sunday lunch was lovely but a bit on the cooler side so I was racing to eat it before it went fully cold.

1 star is too much for this place! Terribly rude staff!!! My friends and I were met with an awfully rude barmaid when visiting this pub last night. Celebrating a birthday and catching up with old friends, we visited Hickory Smokehouse and carried the celebrations on at the Red Lion. Upon ordering a drink at the bar with the rudest, most unwelcoming barmaid you could find!! (Brown hair with a headband on and glasses. Didn’t get the name) She made a comment to a friend of mine - “Why aren’t you lot in Wetherspoons”. The pub chain Wetherspoons is known to be cheap and cheerful. Was this an attack on our appearance?! Are paying customers supposed to be treated in this way? Is this the way you run your establishment? This place clearly needs to retrain its staff, and teach them if you don’t have nothing nice to stay then don’t say it!!! We will never step foot in this place again - an awful end to an otherwise lovely night. Thanks a lot !!!

I was absolutely disgusted with the remark that was made by a female staff member with dark brown hair and glasses made to me and my friends on 11/01/25. ( you look like you should be in the weatherspoons hahaha ) :| The place was really but with the member of staff making us feel very uncomfortable as if we wasn’t the right custom or our face didn’t fit, we would never return and expect a formal apology from the member of staff that ruined our gathering. Utterly disappointed!!!!

A lovely Boxing Day family meal. We love the side room where we were seated. Great food as always. We will be back!

We reserved the library area here for a 1st birthday celebration with family, the staff were so helpful and accommodating they allowed us to decorate fully and bring in a small soft play for my daughter, the food was delicious and served quickly after we asked for it, our original booking was till 3pm but we were able to stay much later as there wasn’t a booking after us. Staff were so helpful, they found us batteries when we needed them, a lighter for the candle and bluetak to stick up decorations, all the little things we forgot! We truly can’t thank everyone enough for such a wonderful day and we will definitely be back in the future for other events! Thank you again

We had a lovely meal at the Red Lion this lunchtime. Sea bass and fish cakes were lovely. Service from Charlotte and Klaudia was excellent, be in again soon

Great location. Free parking. The food is amazing and the service is outstanding. Range of food and drinks is always good. The staff are amazing and really friendly and are happy to to help. Would definitely recommend.

Had a wonderful meal and drinks here with the family and can’t thank the staff enough for the amazing service, especially Abby! We were all made to feel very comfortable and she went out of her way to make sure we thoroughly enjoyed our time. Would definitely be visiting again soon!

I asked to sit near fire and our table was near fire. The waitress was superb. The food was great and the cost of our drinks, starter meal and main meal was very reasonable. We felt very welcome and at home.

We enjoyed our visit to The Red Lion for our Christmas lunch. Much improved from last year. Staff very friendly and attentive especially Charlotte. Definitely worth a 10 out of 10.

The Red Lion is a cosy local pub with a lovely welcoming atmosphere 🤍 The staff here are so attentive, Sean & Charlotte are always working hard and serving with a smile! They’re a pleasure to see everytime. The menu offers a variety of different dishes, changing seasonally, from their perfectly cooked minute steak at lunch to their hearty pie of the day in the evening served with a generous side of chips and seasonal vegetables. Recently I tried their steak and ale pie of the day (unfortunately didn’t take a photo of this one) - certainly one of the best I’ve had, as good as Lowsonford’s Fleur De Lys. After a stroll around Earlswood Lakes, their hot chocolate hits the spot perfectly - it's become my go-to comfort stop after a winter walk ☺️ If you're looking for some midweek entertainment, their Wednesday evening quiz is a must. It's the perfect excuse to gather friends for a fun night out - good food, drinks, and friendly competition. The Red Lion delivers every time. It's exactly what a local pub should be! 😊🥂🍻☕️

We had a group of 5 people plus 2 very large dogs. The staff were very friendly, attentive, exceedingly helpful towards our Gluten Free diner and made a great fuss of the dogs. Even though the restaurant was fairly full our order was taken promptly and delivered in short time. The food was well presented, delicious, hot and good sizes portions. Overall a very pleasant experience and I'll certainly be back. Our server was a charming young lady called Charlotte

An excellent pre-Christmas lunch with friends at the Red Lion. The food was really nice and the service from our lovely waitress Charlotte was brilliant. Looking forward to next year.

We had just picked up the Christmas tree with the grandchildren and had booked in for lunch. Never been before and found it very welcoming, with the decorations and log fires. The landlord and our waitress Sophie made us feel welcome. The food and service was good and we recommend the oven baked Camembert as a shared starter.

Wonderful lunch at a what is a very busy time of year in the hospitallity inustry. All staff were very attentive and pub atmosphere was great. Food was excellent, wiht generous portions. Charlotte; our waitress was brilliant ensuring that we had everything we needed for an enjoyable meal. I had never visited the Red Lion previously, but it will certainly be on my list to take my family to in the future.

Have always enjoyed visiting the red lion in earlswood. Such a lovely warm atmosphere, we had Charlotte serve us tonight. She was very helpful, the service was quick and the time between meals was just enough. She returned to ask if we were OK and kept an eye on when we may wanted drinks. We were here today with friends and had great service from Charlotte our server. She was very friendly and helpful. Will come again as the food and service was excellent!! Our table had the Sirloin steak, Fish and Chips and the Beefburger, all delicious.

We booked for the Festive 3 course menu. Six of us on the table. Very enjoyable meal. Plenty of veg and gravy. Served by Sophie. She was wonderful. Made us very welcome. Professional service with a smile. Thank you.

Fantastic morning today. Special mention to Sophie who went above and beyond on our visit. She made myself and my two children feel at home and dealt with anything we required amazingly. A real credit to the pub.

Our party of 6 met to celebrate Christmas together and we were treated to a lovely meal served by Sophie, who couldn't do enough to make our visit special.

We love dining out and almost always choose Red Lion, Lady Lane! Love the cosy, homely atmosphere. A step above on quality and presentation of food and a step above on service. Know almost all the staff by name and everyone is brilliant at making you feel welcome and are very attentive to your needs. Special shout out to Charlotte who made a recent visit with my wife particularly special. Our favourite table, special menu arrangements to meet our needs and super efficient, highly attentive service!

Red Lion Lady Lane is our favourite place to go for food and drinks. We go often and we are always made to feel so welcome! Our 4 children love it too and they especially love the staff who they now know by name! All the staff are lovely but special shout out to Charlotte and Ellie who made myself and my husband feel extra special on a very rare date night! And even went above and beyond by making adjustments for us when something was off the menu. We cannot recommend the red lion enough, highly attentive and friendly staff.

A great dog friendly pub. Go for a walk round the reservoir and stop over for lunch! Excellent food and there are areas where you can eat with your dog - you arent just confined to a corner. A big shout out to Charlotte, aka the dog whisperer! 😀

Had lovely lunch served by the very polite, helpful and efficient Waitress, Sophie who helped make our day.

We were served by Sophie, lovely and chatty- always available to help! Made sure my sons order was exactly what he wanted as a fussy (almost) 3 year old! Our food was beautiful. Over all very happy with this choice of restaurant for my mums birthday!
