Toby Carvery Shenstone in Lichfield

Went for evening birthday meal with my wife after having a 25% voucher. Shenstone is our ‘go to’ Toby so was expecting great things……I was not disappointed the food was excellent the beef was very tender and quantity supplied was good. The service was a little slow but nothing that bad …had to wait about 10 min to get seated in first place which was a little annoying but altogether a great evenings meal.

there is no broccoli i am not happy with this place but all of that other food was very nice. meat was great chewyness and lovely mash

Terrible service, even worse food!!! Had to pay on entry. Lady on the till not very competent…gave us glasses to use refillable drinks even though she knew the machine wasn’t working so had to go back to bar for drinks (turned out she hadn’t even turned it on) Paid £4.99 for child’s breakfast but told had to pay £1.49 extra for cereal REALLY! There was no other children’s choice on offer only same as adults!! When I asked the manager about this she was rude & abrupt plus carried on walking away whilst I was talking to her. I was going to ask if I could refund the £4.99 & just pay for cereal but I didn’t get the chance. We had to wipe our plates before we could put food on them because they weren’t very clean. The radiator by our table was thick with grime. We visit Burton on Trent Toby often & have always had excellent service & food so expected the same at Shenstone…how wrong were we!!! Spoilt what was supposed to be a family breakfast for my birthday. My son is a manager at a customer service department & he said if a member of his staff had spoken to a customer like the manager spoke to me they would have been called in for a disciplinary!!

We were warmly welcomed by Ellie and seated straight away, even though it was busy and we had not booked. The food was good and as we had a 50% off voucher was very good value too. Ellie was friendly, patient, attentive and went above and beyond to make our good experience an excellent one. 5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

We booked Breakfast with Santa, what an awful experience from start to finish! We booked a family meal of 5 for 10:00am on Sunday 15/12. The restaurant wasn't busy, I would say less than half full. The problems started when we queued for breakfast. We queued for about 45 minutes, however the queue wasn't long at all, the problem was that the food kept running out, when one item was topped up, another 2 or 3 items ran out! The staff who was replenishing the food didn't look up, they were in and out of that kitchen door so quick it was impossible to get their attention. After about 30 minutes in the queue my Mother-In-Law went to locate the Manager, he responded with that they are busy, obviously! He did come over, and went behind the counter calling out my Mother-In-Law asking what she meant by nothing being stocked up, it was obvious that the bacon and sausages were just topped up, but was now out of eggs, pancakes and beans. He went on to state that they can only cook so much in the oven! The food honestly looked like it had been dropped and threw back onto the serving plates! As I was leaving the counter I heard the Manager again making excuses to another angry customer with no apology! Another member of staff whilst collecting our plates and seeing the majority of food untouched stated that it isn't their fault as it is head office that dictates the number of bookings, and that they are unable to accommodate the numbers. Santa, where do I start, this Santa was young, dark brown hair, shy, and his beard kept dropping down! My daughter has grown up to be told that Santa sends helpers as he can't be everywhere, on this occasion we had to tell her that this one is a worker dressed up which was obvious. She brought her Christmas list for Santa but decided she would post it instead, such a disappointment and could spoil a child's Christmas spirit!! I’ve never seen chaos like it! I would not recommend, and the Manager needs training on Customer-Service!

We live 200 miles away from the Highway Man at Shenstone but we have been there many times and love it for the olde worlde atmosphere. Our relatives and friends go regularly as well and I would agree with them when they say its definitely the best carvery around. Please don't change anything, its all wonderful as it is and we look forward to going again.

We rang the restaurant and asked if we could book a table of 10 we were spoken to by Danielle who obliged our booking and when we arrived was greeted by Ann who took us to a lovely round table all set up to accommodate us all. The service from the 2 ladies was fantastic and professional made to feel welcome and nothing to much trouble

Good food and excellent staff service Ann who sat us very knowledgeable in allergens explaining the process to us and allowing us to choose the most suitable food, very patient and professional Server very attentive and good food all round

We booked a table for 3 of us for Tuesday lunch with wheelchair access Met at door to check in by manager Ann she explained table wasn’t quite ready and asked us to sit in bar area. This lady was under a lot of pressure as it was extremely busy with large groups and shortly after we as sat at a large table with plenty of room, Ann even waited in the 4 tables in the area including ours in a professional attentive and prompt manner. She was extremely polite apologising for Out wait and due to it being over 15 minutes didn’t charge us for the kingside upgrade as a token of our patience She is a credit to your business and did and handled all the shift with her team in an amazing manner

As usual loverly food beef was excellent and vegetables great only gripe was Yorkshire puds were very tough and also the roast potatoes. Did notice that prices have increased too. Otherwise fantastic as usual.

Came early on a Sunday, which is double the price which they don’t tell you, to wait over an hour in the queue to eat raw potatoes, fatty meat and cold food. Paying over £40 for this meal was disgusting and I won’t be returning.

A joyless hour spent at this carvery. Flies swarming around the carvery area and the carpet sticking to our feet and gaffer tape concealing worn out carpet. Rock hard roast potatoes, cauliflower, wrinkled dried cabbage. We felt sorry for the server as he was continually telling diners they had to wait for extra vegetables etc after they had been given their meat. No soap in the two dispensers in the ladies toilets. We were asked by our waitress "how is your meal" and had to tell her how tough the food was. She was a manager or supervisor in training and charged us for our drinks only. As loyal customers over the years to the Shenstone Branch, it was evident standards had dropped. Cleanliness and the flies issue needs to be addressed urgently.

Disappointing coffee only half a cup of tasteless Americano, should have sent it back, strange super size offer with two yorkshire puds the size of hats, leaving not much room for anything else. Will try again next week.

I'm sorry I never got her name she had short black hair, with glasses and a black top on. Lovely food and great colleagues restaurant was extremely busy which is good to see! The colleague at the front of house I feel was tremendous she was greeting customers seating customers taking orders serving food and drinks she is a complete all rounder ! Please look after her and get more colleagues on at your busiest times ...best at your busiest is what makes you stand out ! Colleagues I feel need more support they are doing more and more and eventually you will loose these good colleagues! The lady at front of house, she was doing a role of five colleagues and her service never was impacted .She was warm friendly and I could see she took pride in her role and the restaurant ! Please look after her ....If you need more colleagues recruit !

Firstly, the service is good, very friendly & very welcoming. We had to queue, which for early on a Monday evening was a surprise, despite it not appearing to be busy. One section by the door was completely empty. I see plenty of positive reviews but unfortunately I was left feeling a disappointed. Perhaps I am just fussy. Whilst the the carvery was quick & efficient, I was left feeling underwhelmed. The meat was tasty but there was just not enough of it. Just a single slice of beef & turkey, probably 2" x 3" in size. It wouldn't have covered a sandwich. The Yorkshire pudding was ok but they aren't the huge, fluffy & voluminous ones often depicted in the photographs. They were all piled up next to a filthy plug socket. The veg was overcooked, but it is left under heat lamps so its to be expected to some degree. The roast potatoes, always a favorite of mine, were a let down. They were very tough & tasted like they had been kept warm for too long despite having just come out. They tasted fine but just not the quality I have experienced in the past. I appreciate its a difficult balance, keeping food warm, especially when its quiet. Drinks wise, there was only a single ale on draft, Doom Bar, although a selection of bottled beers is available. The napkins were more like a pocket tissue than a napkin, not really adequate for a dinner service, just too small. Value wise, its ok. Would I return, no doubt I will as the family found it ok; & hopefully it will be good. I was very much looking forward to a delicious roast dinner but sadly, it didn't hit the mark for me on this occasion, which was a shame as the staff were lovely & certainly not in any way to blame.

Lovely welcome upon entering the restaurant, staff are helpful and if you meet Sonia, shes an asset to the company, makes you feel like a VIP every single time. Seating is good and food is top quality, the atmosphere is great and cosey and pricing is low to mid range - people will naturally compare this to local pubs offering carvery and you should not do this as this is far superior overall. Parking is plentiful and free of charge too so that's always a bonus. I visit this place several times a month (yes its that good) If you have never been, go....say no more you wont regret it.

Food was great and Hannah, our waitress, was smiley and attentive. Couldn’t have asked for a better lunch out with my family

Upon arrival was greeted by friendly welcoming staff and showed to a table swiftly drinks orders were taken within minutes. The carvery itself was hot fresh and meat sel action was good and the veg didn’t look wilted under the lights like the last couple of Toby venues I had been too food was very nice and the venue is welcoming and clean. For a Toby this is one of the better ones I have visited.

Slow service and it was a Wednesday after 1pm. My friend had the Carvery and I ordered a wrap so explained we wanted to eat at the same time. Mine came 10 minutes later. No salad and no ice-cream. Would not recommend.

We were shown to our table, drinks order taken, went to the carvery the server cut me two small slices of beef, fortunately there was a plentiful supply of vegetables.At the next table there was a child continually playing an electronic game playing an annoying tune over & over, we asked the waitress if we could move, she showed us to another area carrying our food and drinks for us, we had only been there a few minutes when a couple arrived with a small child who proceeded to scream it’s head off, we hurried our meal and left, Are Toby Inns turning their pubs into whacky warehouse

Visited the Carvery for lunch today and the food was very good, fresh, hot and plenty of choice. However., the experience was marred by the attitude of the waitress who seemed to be in a bit of a temper!! I had booked a table for 2 and when we arrived we were shown to a table for two which was up against a fireplace wall. I asked if we could sit somewhere else as I’m not happy sitting in a confined space. The waitress turned to the able behind, slammed the menu done and said ‘is that ok’ but in a not particularly pleasant manner. There was a table of 4 ladies sitting near us and when the waitress presented the bill they informed her that they had a voucher. She grabbed the bill back, said you could have told me before, turned and screwed the bill up and threw it onto her work station before issuing a replacement bill. When we asked for our bill we told her we had a voucher which was a Meerkat Meals voucher giving 25% off total bill. She went to great lengths to tell us that this would cancel out the Weekday Set Menu. Really, was there any need to make us look stupid? I regularly use the vouchers which are a bonus of insurance through Compare the Market. I think she had a bad attitude today and I appreciate we all have off days but, when you work in the service industry it is well to bear in mind that the customers are ultimately paying your wages!!!

Disappointed. It’s not very appealing watching the ‘chef’ throwing the meat onto the plate as if he is discarding it. I was under the impression that food was prepare and served with love. Definitely not the usual standard for a Toby carvery.

Hi, The wife and I use Shenstone Toby often, (and on the odd occasion with family) as we like the people and venue. We would like a shout out please to Ellie who we totally admire as a staff member. Nothing is a problem to this lady whenever we ask, she is a pleasure to deal with and makes us feel welcome to ask anything. (We love our Carvery nice & steaming & she if sees us in the queue she knows exactly what to do) Bless her, she is a rare breed indeed in these rock & rush times. I would go as far as to say she’s probably the deciding factor in picking Shenstone, even though we live nearer Norton Canes. Please give this lady a pay rise or a medal, or both. She’s worth it😃 Regards Sean & Petal (and tribe).

absolutely shocking, disgusting my kids ate a bit of toast and that’s about it the food was horrible they wouldn’t bring anything else out fresh and i ate a sausage and hash brown that’s about it there was nothing out to eat and there was also hair in my food which that puts you off your food and i would not bother if you are thinking to go

Oh how badly this Toby Carvery has fallen in standards. We visited this afternoon for my birthday and both the food and drink ( Doombar) was woeful. • I sampled the Doombar before buying and it was awful. Normally Doombar is a nice ale but it has to be kept properly. This, in my opinion, was not up to standard. There was no Guinness available so I settled on Diet Coke !! • I chose the large carvery with 2 meats. I had only 1 slice of each (Turkey & Pork) and it was literally the thinest ‘slithers’ of meat, far from a reasonable portion in my opinion. Terrible and not value for money. • The vegan choice/s had already ‘sold out’ (at 1.40pm) and all we were offered were pitiful breakfast sausages but at the full price of a carvery.!!! • All of the vegetables and potatoes, without exception were cold. All in all this was a pitiful visit to what was previously a value for money reasonable roast. Sadly we have left today feeling ripped off and totally dissatisfied with Toby Carvery.

We went to the Toby carvery in shenstone . We was shown to our table by a lady called suzanne. She was polite and very nice. She took our drinks order . And told her to make our way to the carvery when ready. It was busy so we waited in the queue. Now when we got to the carvery . All the meats looked great and juicy . The chef was George who carved our meat. He was very friendly even when I asked him for some beef fat for my mum and made her day . There was a good choice of vegetables and were all topped up . We sat down and all of us cleaned our plates and said was best carvery we had in years . I was a chef for 40 years and would of been proud to put that carvery out . The bosses at Toby should be rewarding these chefs has they did there company proud

Great food and service although queue took a little longer than expected so will rethink the time we go next time as it was very busy at 2pm on a Sunday although spaces were left to book further slots at that time.
