The Whittington Arms in Lichfield

Lovely looking restaurant with pleasant and efficient front of house staff but unfortunately the food let them down. My wife and I both had the pork belly for mains which unfortunately hadn't been cooked long enough as it was quite chewy. The starters and desserts were quite nice but that doesn't really compensate for a poor main course

Was hoping for a country pub feel, warm and cosy. But it felt cold and open everywhere (my fault, should have read up on it before we went but we called in on the off chance). Food came out hot and tasted good, although overpriced. Looked at the set menu but the starters weren't exactly "pub grub". Asked for a coke and was brought an overpriced bottle. Again my fault, should have asked for a draught Pepsi (or whatever was on the pump) but most waitresses usually ask the question to you when you order. Unfortunately won't be calling back in again.

Amazing food and service from Callum. Would go again. We had the steak , salad and vegan burger, the desserts were delicious.

Went for a birthday meal here on Saturday. As soon as you walk in there is a lovely warm atmosphere. Food was delicious! As were the cocktails, can't beat a good cocktail! The staff that served us were lovely, friendly and professional. Had a few giggles with them throughout our time there. It's lovely to have such amazing staff on what can be one of the busiest days of the week for business. Keep doing what you're doing, we'll be back! Top quality service and food with Ellie serving us very professionally ...We had three courses Sunday Roast and the service was the best ,well done Ellie....beef was thick and very good quality and the roast potatoes were superb,its a good job we booked as they turned people away who hadnt booked there table,plenty of parking ,our third time there and fast becoming our favourite pub/restaurant,..100,% recommend to all..10/10

We popped in here just for a couple of drinks and could not believe how much they cost! We had a glass of red and a glass of rose and it came to just over £22!! Absolute rip off! I couldn’t believe it when he said the price and I will definitely will NOT be returning!

I am a regular customer at the Whittington Arms and love the ambience, the food and the service. I love the lay out as I'm a wheelchair user and it is easily accessible. The waitresses and waiters are always smiley, helpful and polite. Especially Carly who is often working when I visit. Nothing is too much trouble for her and she always makes sure everything is OK.

Food and service were great. We were serves by charlie and she was super pleasant.

Wow! What can I say we’ve had the best evening. Lovely food, I had fillet steak and it was cooked to perfection. I can’t recommend Charlie enough, she has given our party 10/10 service from start to finish. We will definitly be back!

Absolutely amazing experience. Despite being extremely short staffed due to illness, Callum, Charlie, and Sasha worked above and beyond to ensure that the doors remained open and customers were served as usual. You could not tell that they were short staffed!!!! Absolutely amazing team that went above and beyond!!!!!!

If you are looking for a romantic meal or birthday dinner, this gem is for you. We required wheel chair access and the staff were very accommodating from the moment we walked through the door. Can’t wait to return

It is pleasant inside. We sat in the bar area and ordered at the bar. Quite a long wait before our meals came out. I had sea bass and my friend had fish and chips. Mine was was underwhelming, but not awful. My friend said hers was overcooked however, and was difficult to even cut her fish. Nobody asked if the food was ok, even when collecting the plates. Luckily I had a 50% off voucher. I would have been really disappointed if I'd paid full price.

Myself and my family went for our lunch and the staff were really helpful, especially Sasha and Lucy, who went above and beyond in my opinion. They were so polite nothing was too much, they were very informative and the meals too, as my youngest daughter is very fussy!

Visited here with family for an early evening New Years Eve meal. We were greeted promptly upon arrival and shown to our table. The steaks were cooked perfectly as ordered and we all enjoyed our meals as well as the attentive service. This was our first visit here but will make sure that it is not our last.

Took 3 hours to finish full meal for group of 9. Most of that was spent waiting. Had to chase up food. Bill was over £300.

I love this place we've been many times now !

The food took ages, the quality was poor, the waitress was abrupt and came across quite arrogant. This is my 2nd visit, 1st time I had the same experience but put it down to a one off so I tried again and it was the same. Really disappointed

My family and myself went there for food. It took over an hour to arrive. Most of the food was OK but my daughter and myself had a trio roast dinner. The parsnips were burnt and the chicken was very dry

Excellent Sunday Lunch, the Roast Sirloin of Beef first class. Food served promptly by Carly who was very efficient and pleasant. We finished with the Trio of Mini Desserts and the Chocolate Bomb, both different and delicious. Good atmosphere in the comfortable and well laid out restaurant, with nice log fires burning

Due to negative reviews about service in the past, we hadn't visited for a while, but wow what a change. The service was first class and quick. Carly was excellent, very efficient and friendly, a tribute to your team. The Sunday Lunch exceeded our expectations, one of the best we have had for a while. We both had the Sirloin of Beef, which was plentiful and very tasty. For desserts we had the Trio of Desserts and the Chocolate Bomb, beautifully presented and far better than we had expected and well worth the extra cost. We were impressed with the layout of the restaurant and how cosy it was especially with the log fires burning. All in all a great restaurant and we shall return again.

The food was excellent, would also like a pork or gammon option. The staff were very friendly and supportive. Pam, our waitress/server was very friendly and attentive with a great sense of humour. The ladies toilets were blocked and overflowing t the time of our visit.

First visit for Sunday lunch. Opted for the cheataubriand sharer which was on the specials. It was perfect. Roast potatoes, gravy, Yorkshire puddings and vegetables were all excellent. Service was great. A lovely venue

Lovely place this, beautiful setting and location. Very nice vibe upon walking in and a nice real log fire burning away. First time visiting as I was up that way for the day. Staff asked if we required a drink before even taking our coats off, when we asked for just two minutes that did actually become 15 and there were only 6 other people in the restaurant. When the food came it was very nice, 3 of us had different meals and all enjoyed what we had. We did order a second round of drinks with dessert and they didn’t come and due to time restrictions we had to cancel them drinks which was a shame. Only minor little issues would definitely return given the choice.

When your waitress gets your first drinks order wrong you know things are off to a bad start - but then it got worse! If waiting an hour and a half for our main courses wasn’t bad enough ( due to the order not being sent to the kitchen!) 2 of the four dishes were wrong despite them having been checked twice by different members of staff. Desserts were slow arriving and our coffees were left on the bar so long we collected them ourselves! Needless to say we requested a generous discount which was agreed to but having driven three hours from London for a family get together the whole experience was sadly marred by basic staff incompetence.

Celebratory Meal with my partner, very warm and toasty atmosphere. We didn't have to wait too long for food. Could have done with more vegetarian options, we sat and ate in the bar as it was busy. Very cosy, and busy as its near to christmas. Lovely food, my partner had vegetarian burger, and I had the chicken burger, with chips. Could have been a bigger portion, for both of our meals. The price is a little steep for what we received.

This pub/restaurant has definitely upped their game, we are very local and have often left disappointed, we had Sunday lunch today which was excellent, and the staff were fabulous, particularly Lucy!! Will be back soon 🥰

Unfortunately, they ran out of the cod my wife picked Service was pleasant but painfully slow 20 mins together a drink 50 minutes to get olives after asking twice Booked table 7.30 got food at 9 ! Needs to be better

I've put 5 stars but thst was for when my chicken and mozzarella sandwich was replaced. I opened up the first serving. One sandwich had a piece of chicken smaller than my thumb while the other was loaded. Couldn't see the mozzarella at all and the roast pepper tapenade was barely visible at all. When the replacement came, it was fully loaded with everything, just a shame that the replacement chips were stone cold. The ladies bathroom is desperate for a redecoration. While the facilities were clean the walls and woodwork were awful especially under and around the hand blower

We have always used the Whittington arm for many years, and I have to say tonight was the worst ever the best part about it was bumping into an ex work colleague we ordered Olives and bread came with out any knifes or napkins had to go and ask The seating is old and ripped from age towards the end four members of young staff sat deon behind us disgusting how a head member of staff was making them all cry and making them feel uneasy and causing they to have panic attacks I think there is a time and place to be discussing work issues and not arpund customers it's not very professional at all It's really not good at all don't think I will be returning in the near future

An unusual experience. Food was ok. However, the onion rings were soggy, and smelt like a sweaty man’s armpit on a summers day. Service staff were friendly however, we were simply forgotten about. Table was at 6:30, once we had finished our food at 7:30, it took 40 minutes to get someone to clear the table and get our tab. This was only done as I flagged someone down. To a point where we’re 30 minutes late to the cinema, and didn’t have time to order a pudding. Atmosphere, was fine. Problem we had was the overuse of candles/diffusers, too overpowering, whereby our clothes did not smell of cooking after we left, but the scents used in candles etc, combined with a headache from how intense they were. Wasn’t awful, but not an experience that would encourage us to return, for the price we paid, could have gone somewhere nicer.

We always love the ambience, along with the layout of the premises. The decor adds to the relaxing and open feel aspect of your surroundings.

Visited for a meal with the family. The food was amazing everything was delicious. Great service from both Alice and Callum who looked after us on the day. Would highly recommend the Whittington Arms our daughters loved their visit.

Absolutely amazing place, both our waitresses went above and beyond for us , we were celebrating two birthdays,and they also brought the birthday cake out for us , and joined in when we all sang happy birthday.

Fabulous birthday meal here tonight. We received a really warm welcome & wonderful service from the lovely Charlie. She went over and above to make our evening a relaxing & enjoyable experience. Nothing was too much trouble. As ever the food was delicious. Belly pork was superb and the lamb rump was amazing. Would definitely recommend you visit this wonderful setting. Whittington arms is always a place we go back to and always love. We had a wonderful server in Charlie who has a warm welcome and a good positive contagious attitude. Recommend the king prawn starter which were amazing. Fully recommend.

We had bottomless bubbles. It was a lovely afternoon. The food was very good. The waitress was excellent and we had a lovely time. Very good value for money. A lovely idea for a birthday celebration.

My partner and I dropped into the Whittington Arms early evening on a Sunday and found a table without a reservation. Our server Charlie was so friendly and welcoming. She had good knowledge of the menu and gave us recommendations of a lovely wine. I had the roast chicken and my partner had the trio of roasts. Both cooked beautifully and with stunning roasties and Yorkshire puddings. For pudding I had the sticky toffee pudding that was moist but light, would definitely recommend.

My review is as a Deliveroo driver, but it's relevant because it covers customer service, professionalism and atmosphere. Half of the deliveries I arrive to collect aren't ready with waits longer than ten minutes which is my limit before I leave without the order, reduced to five if I'm ignored. Staff don't seem to prioritise delivery orders and I wonder why they bother offering a delivery service - so if you order delivery, prepare for a wait and potentially cold food if it takes time to assign a driver, presuming I'm not the only driver who doesn't like taking deliveries from here. Some staff are professional and apologetic, others treat me like I'm a nuisance, despite me being there on behalf of an already-paid customer. I wouldn't eat here on this basis. Even delivery customers should be at the heart of eateries.

First of all our waitress Charlie is wonderful. Couldn't ask for a more attentative server makes the night an absolute pleasure. Food is good, hence the reason we go back time and again.

What beautiful place to dine out. candles smelt lovely, set off with real flowers on the tables. amazing food! Freshly cooked also arrived hot. But there was a member of staff that was really rude and very unprofessional. Shortly after eating, the same staff member was shouting about getting another job, and some other things! We found this unacceptable! I think her name was Chloe or Charlotte. (Or as we called her “Rentagob”) The other staff members were lovely, warm and friendly. Thank you for putting a positive spin during our time there. Much appreciated.

Took my wife for dinner last night and the food was great. Steak pie and linguine. We had a bottle of wine not a glass which was lovely. A South African Sauvignon Blanc recommended by our server Charlie who was so friendly and attentive. It is my wife’s Birthday on Saturday and Charlie went above and beyond by bringing her a lovely surprise and sang Happy Birthday. We were not expecting anything like that and it is always great when your waitress remembers your names even when you have only visited a couple of times. Brilliant.

Fantastic open plan gastro pub with a great atmosphere and big beer garden /seating out side. Doom Bar was a great pint and the food was delicious Highly recommend the Lamb Rump which tasted fanatics Large car park to front A nice wood burning fire was lit which added to the atmosphere. Good selection of food and drink available.

Aug 2024 - Visited on a Sunday, no booking and was a table for us, service was great and quality of food was really good. We had Fish and Chips and some Sunday Roasts. All were really hot, well presented and will definitely visit again. 12/4/17 Visited again today and had a lovely mid day meal. Fish and chips was really nice and the service was great. Nice simple food and good taste. Nice atmosphere and peaceful. 2015 - A nice atmosphere in a modern style bistro restaurant. The food is a fair price, not the cheap but is reasonable price an is some good quality food and drinks. Great decor and feels a nice place to sit in and relax. Food wise all the food we had was lovely, some interesting items on the menu too and we had some complimentary nuts and seeds which were really nice. A lovely touch.

Called in on Tuesday night for the pub quiz as our other venue stopped. The quiz was spot on and the atmosphere was great. Will definitely be making this our regular.

Not a huge fan of pubs, but on this one, I found the Douro one, and it was lovely! Plus the view is lovely.

Great place, very pleasant decor and good food

We had a family party there on a large private table. Great pub, great service and we were able to move outside after the meal into a good sized pub garden for more drinks. We had a great time.

Food was tasty, if not exactly hot. Wine selection was poor. The service was excellent, but the atmosphere was very poor. The live singer ( that we were not told would be performing when we booked) was so loud that our intimate anniversary dinner has us shouting across the table at each other. Shame, because we've eaten here before and had a lovely quiet lunch.

No vegan Sunday roast. 3 vegan choices one of which was a processed burger This is our favourite place to eat when we are I the area. The menu is no better than a weatherspoons or marston pub at a high price defiantly gone down hill

Lovely evening last night and was great to have Charlie back as our server. Always remembers our drinks and is so lovely. I had the Belly Pork which was cooked perfectly and the wife had the Burger which comes with the most delicious beef dripping gravy. This has now become one our favourite places to eat. Always great service and everyone is always happy to help.

We are locals and visit The Whittington Arms regularly so we knew the standard we could expect. On this occasion, we booked a table in the garden to enjoy the live music. The setting was superb as we enjoyed the sunset with a fantastic music set delivered by a musician who engaged with the entire audience. The food, as always was top drawer, the cocktails were delicious and the staff were the epitome of perfect hosts. Special mention should be given to the member of staff called Charlie who was on a mission to make sure everyone’s every need was catered for with her boundless enthusiasm and attention to detail. It was an evening to remember - thank you!!!

And the amazing Charlie who is the best waitress hands down managed to do her magic and get us a table. When I say A1 service given to us by all staff but especially Charlie very attentive and so friendly !!!!

A birthday celebration with family at the Whittington arms in Lichfield . Everything was first class. A special mention to our waitress Ellie who insisted on calling me Brenda even though it's not my name. Now my whole family are caselling me Brenda! 😅
