Harry served us for our evening meal. He was courteous and attentive throughout our meal. The food was lovely with a nice atmosphere. The food was a little slow to come out but overall a great dining experience!

Very nice, firstly the waitress was awesome, she was friendly and attentive without being overbearing. It was my wife's favorite meal of our trip, she had the crispy duck salad. Everything was hot and fresh.

We visited on Sunday, June 1st, and enjoyed an absolutely outstanding meal. From the moment we arrived, the service was impeccable. The lady who greeted us made sure we were comfortable before promptly taking our drinks order. The drinks arrived quickly, and shortly after, our food order was taken. We opted for the sharing Sunday roast platter, while our friend chose the sirloin roast. The quality of the food was exceptional. As it was my birthday, I'd been given the option of going anywhere I wanted and I had been craving a proper roast dinner so we chose the Whittington Arms, and this experience exceeded all expectations. The dishes were beautifully presented and tasted incredible. We also added extra vegetables to our platter, and they were cooked to perfection. A special mention goes to the mashed potatoes, which were absolutely delicious. Every detail was thoughtfully prepared, making the entire meal a delight. Overall, it was a fantastic dining experience that left us feeling thoroughly satisfied, happy and wanting to return for more, which we shall! . We really can’t wait to return soon. Thank you for a memorable meal!

Came on a Friday and it was very quiet. Not sure why as the place is lovely and the food was delicious. Hubby and I had steaks and they were cooked to perfection (and we're very fussy!) Service was very friendly and just a tad slow considering not many people in but it didn't spoil our evening. Definitely try it and absolutely have the steaks!!!

Awful. Pre ordered for 13 people. Table only set up for 12 took over 1 hour for food to Come out which was all ordered days in advance. Only 12 meals arrived.manager blamed mix up on staff in before her. If you see a large party surely you would check how many pre order meals you have down to how many guests in the party??? The managers attitude stunk from the moment we said there was a meal missing. No one came round to see if any of us needed more drinks or even sauces with our meals let aline ask if our meals were OK. Who experience was terrible. Food was very bland and overpriced for what you get.

Beautiful relaxed venue, delicious food, fabulous service, great ambience April 2025 We were celebrating our son and his fiancé’s engagement last weekend and had a family lunch at the Whittington Arms Lichfield on the Sunday before everyone went their separate ways throughout the country and couldn’t have had a better time at this beautiful venue. The ambience was warm and relaxed with a lovely buzz. Carly looked after incredibly well and attentively (even though it was Easter Sunday and busy). We were all made to feel very special by Carly and nothing was too much trouble. We’d pre-ordered but there were quite a few additions and changes which were effortlessly taken care of. She was so friendly and kind and professional and really made the day memorable. Jake and Ethan were also brilliant and efficient. The cake had slipped in our car and broken but chef Gemma must have spent ages fixing it with more freshly made cake and icing and redecorated the whole thing without us even knowing. So kind of her and helped to make the day even more special. We couldn’t be more grateful and just want to say a massive thank you for all the effort and patience and for making our son and fiancé’s weekend memorable. We are definitely going to come back! The food was absolutely delicious and the service was out of this world!

My boyfriend and I visited for Sunday lunch after a walk, having chosen this place based on its great reviews. Unfortunately, we left feeling extremely disappointed. While the presentation of the food looked promising at first, the meal itself was a letdown, cold, dry, and clearly microwaved. I couldn’t even finish it, which says a lot, as I’ve had better meals at home. We ended up spending £80, which felt like a waste given the poor quality of the food. Despite having both worked in hospitality and understanding the challenges, especially on weekends, this felt inexcusable, particularly when many other places manage to maintain standards during busy periods. The roast potatoes were mushy, the carrots and parsnips were dry, the beef was overcooked, and the chicken was the driest I’ve ever had. I genuinely felt sick trying to eat it. The table next to us also complained and barely touched their food, which made it clear we weren’t alone in our experience. I want to add that our waitress was lovely and we did leave a tip, as the service itself was not the issue. But unfortunately, the food was unacceptable and completely overshadowed the rest of the visit. We left regretting the entire experience.

Too many faults to mention but an absolute shambles from start to end. Slow unfriendly service, poor drinks, many items from the menu were unavailable. When meals eventually came after a very long wait, it wasn’t hot and inedible. Definitely not somewhere we will return. Shocking!

Despite pre ordering food for a party of 10 the experience was from start to finish a disaster. One member of the party hadn’t preordered due to intolerances and when she went to order was told they didn’t have what she would like. She chose again and within a couple of minutes was told that this item was unavailable but her first choice was now, surprisingly available. We then waited over 1 hour and 10 minutes for food ( the restaurant was actually not that full) and was then told the Pizza order would be late. Most food was bought to the table, complete with the pizza! One item came but was missing dipping sauce, this was bought over in another 5 minutes. Quality of the food was varied as portion sizes varied between plates even though some choices were identical. Then it came to our desserts! They had also been preordered! We were then told they only had 3 cookies not the 6 we ordered so we had to make alternative choices. One person had to in fact choose 4 times before they had one available. I made a comment about them ‘splitting cookies in half’ and WOW when the now 5 cookie choices arrived we each had 1/4 of a cookie each!!!! Our waitress was amazing though. She was very apologetic and tried everything she could to help. Eventually we were given £70 off a food bill of nearly £200. If it wasn’t for the waitress I think we would have argued for a bigger discount. Not sure WHY we needed to preorder as there was no point of doing .

Four of us came for an anniversary meal. I was the only one who chose a vegetarian dish, I chose the chargrilled linguine, & whilst I appreciate that costs have to be covered & staff paid etc, I was very disappointed to find: one strip of yellow pepper, one strip of red pepper, 3 thin slices of courgette & only a very few pieces of onion. The linguine itself was beautifully cooked in a lovely sauce, but the portion size of the whole dish was very small indeed. For almost £18 I’d say it was very expensive for what was on the plate. Although we’ve been here many times, it makes me hesitate to want to come again. I’d like to say that, as normal, all the staff are lovely, & the ambience within is very pleasant. But please, chefs - can you be a bit more generous & realistic with portion sizes? Thank you.

Ordered off their online Sunday dinner Take-Away. Cost over £50 for the two of us. Pics are incredibly misleading and show side of veg with chicken which I ordered thinking what was pictured would come. Nope, a few veggies! The cauliflower cheese I paid £4.50 for consisted of 3 small pieces of cauliflower. So disappointing. Sent them an email, no response. Would have happily gone again have they somewhat responded and tried to rectify. Waste of money

Annie - Superb waitress! A real asset to your team.

We came here as my niece is in barracks nearby. It wasn’t that busy but with 2 servers and 1 bar staff the service was slow. We asked to order and were told she needed an iPad and then it seemed to take a while to come back. The food was excellent and portions were good. We ordered another drink to go with our main course and I had to go to the bar to collect this as it was poured but no server was bringing it and we were half way through dinner! The toilets well they were disgusting. They were all blocked and were not checked at all by staff in the time we were there. When I asked to speak to a manager to report this and inquire how often the should be checked she replied every half hour. Well that wasn’t done. When I informed her of them being blocked and not flushing she reported they did know and are having problems. I pointed out that the pub wasn’t busy and so if that is the condition on a Thursday evening I dread to think what they are like on a weekend. If you know there are problems then maybe you should enforce your checks so that customers do not have to be faced with faeces!

We had a dreadful family experience for Mother's Day meal which was booked on 13th Feb 25 for 9 people with a confirmation received. There were 3 mothers in the party & 2 family members had travelled up from London. We rang the pub Saturday evening to make sure all was ok for the next day only to be told the booking had been cancelled, which was absurd & no confirmation of this supposed cancellation received! My daughter rang to speak to who was in charge & asked what they were intending to do, there was absolutely no abuse just wanting a full explanation. The phone was subsequently put down on her. No way to run a business & so unprofessional, needless to say we won’t be utilising this pub again. We rang every pub in the area & as you can imagine being Mother’s Day weekend had no chance of getting in anywhere. This was a washout of a weekend for our family. I’d welcome an explanation from management on their handling of this dreadful situation. If you book for a family of 9 well in advance, surely you can expect to be accommodated, if as you say this was cancelled, where was the confirmation? As stated before we have confirmation of the booking. Can you please confirm why the phone was put down from this very unprofessional staff member. A Claridge

came here for a special occasion and OMG it was lovely!! we had a lovely friendly hostess called Cathy who was great. my mum who is 72 wanted the fillet steak - well done. it came out and it was perfect! my mother said it really is the best she's had and she has travelled all over the world, so a MASSIVE THANK YOU to Ethan the chef!! will definitely be back! 💜

We had been driving past for a few months and kept meaning to go - so glad we did! Our Sunday roasts were gorgeous and the restaurant is well laid out and nicely designed - would be perfect for a celebration! The real stand out though was the service from Charlie - she was so funny, friendly and attentive without being overbearing. She made the lunch for us and we will definitely be back

Had a great meal, food was presented and tasted great. Charlie is a lovely genuine person who always makes you feel so welcome and nothing is too much trouble, always checks on us and is always honest about recommendations. The pie was lovely and juicy and I can see why she is a “pie girl” Lovely place for a meal out and ambience is warm and welcoming.

Went here last weekend for Sunday lunch, we have never been before so didn’t know what to expect. Staff were very friendly, food and drinks were great. One of the best Sunday roasts we’ve had. Will definitely be returning.

I am 59 years old and today i had the best Sunday lunch i’ve eaten, thanks goes to the chefs, Jake and Elliot. This was complemented by excellent waitress service from Charlie, Carly and Em. Thank you for a wonderful eating experience.

For a venue badged as a "premium country pub" this was anything but premium. Slow service and poor value for money. Dirty burger not worth £21, only worth half that. "Pickles" was one slice of cucumber cut in half with some weird wet non-pickly wet stuff on. Daily special Lemon Sole was dry and only came with potatoes. Had to chase for the salsa which when it came was about 2 teaspoonfuls. Sticky toffee pudding was lukewarm at best and very dry in the middle. Staff never bothered to check if we were happy with our meal - looked like they expected poor feedback tbh. Toilets blocked and not very clean. Very disappointed having been recommended. We do not recommend and will not be back.

Awful experience. Food took along time to come out. Adults roasts came out, no green veg given we had to ask. Children's took ages to come out we had to ask multiple times. Then had to send one of the kids meals back as the sausage was that hard couldn't cut in to it. Then came back with no vegetables. Lots of other people complaining and one group left due to the wait. Food is very expensive for what you get. No draft Pepsi and only one drink available for the kids. Honestly awful experience.

Tbh I'm quite disappointed as I came a few years ago and it was amazing this time wasn't the same experience an it's a shame really the food let you down the service was amazing the place is stunning such a beautiful place relaxing, paid for 3 courses for valentines day. Starter was cheese fondue all food come out fast but Starter was freezing cold so we had to send it back, the fish an chips was very standard overcooked chips an the mint mushy peas was like eating an imperial mint with your fish absolutely gross won't be returning unfortunately

Service was slow initially and subsequent drinks but they were busy, so forgiven, lovely pleasant waiter's. I had a roast dinner beef sirloin, the meat was on top of my Yorkshire which had filled my Yorkshire with blood from the raw meat. They griddled my meat to seal it, but left blood soaked Yorkshire on my plate. Carrot was half a raw carrot partly scrapped - the others in party liked them, except one ended on floor whilst they were trying to cut it 😔. No veg to speak of, not my style of meals unfortunately, funny taste, two of party enjoyed their meals, small portions, one had sea bass but they unusually left meal saying if tasted funny, think it was strong tasting tomotoe sauce?. Deserts - poached pear was a strange desert, didn't even look appetising and both left theirs, my apple tart was just ok, apple pips and apple skin mixed in, ate it all though. Prices were comparable to other higher quality restaurants, and feel it's a bit pricey for what we got, not full when leaving, Presentation, cleanliness, facilities etc were all 5 star. I hadn't been to restaurant for quiet a few years because always too busy and can't remember ever having any complaints from the many times and large parties who always came with us. Sorry I've never complained before but suppose having my Yorkshire like a cup of blood was the problem really.

We love this place. We came last year and couldn’t wait to come back. We came back last night for the valentines set meal and everything was perfect. The food choices were brilliant, service was brilliant, our waitress was Charlie. She was super lovely and funny especially when recommending the Irish coffee which my husband did enjoy deep down 😉

My wife and I were given a gift voucher for the Whittington Arms, and we visited on Wednesday, 5th February 2025, at 18:00 for an evening meal. Our first impression was a lovely ambience. We were greeted by Callum, who gave us a choice of where to sit, and we chose to sit by a log fire.. 😊 A lovely lady (whose name I can't remember right now, but I'm assuming she was the same lady who was praised many times in previous reviews) came to take our order. My wife ordered the mushrooms for starters, and I opted for the goats cheese. For mains, my wife ordered the rib eye steak, and I the fillet steak. So, 18:10, the order was placed, and 18:20 the starters arrived. They were both absolutely delicious. 18:45, the 'mains' arrived. Both steaks were cooked to perfection. I should add that my wife is from South Africa, and the South Africans know how to cook meat! We asked Callum to pass on our compliments to the chef, as my wife said that those steaks were better than any steak she had cooked! So, our thanks to Merch and Gemma (the two chefs responsible for cooking the steaks).. To Callum and our waitress. All in all, it was an exceptional evening dining experience for us. Don't often eat here but I do like a drink in the bar area

Lovely looking restaurant with pleasant and efficient front of house staff but unfortunately the food let them down. My wife and I both had the pork belly for mains which unfortunately hadn't been cooked long enough as it was quite chewy. The starters and desserts were quite nice but that doesn't really compensate for a poor main course

Was hoping for a country pub feel, warm and cosy. But it felt cold and open everywhere (my fault, should have read up on it before we went but we called in on the off chance). Food came out hot and tasted good, although overpriced. Looked at the set menu but the starters weren't exactly "pub grub". Asked for a coke and was brought an overpriced bottle. Again my fault, should have asked for a draught Pepsi (or whatever was on the pump) but most waitresses usually ask the question to you when you order. Unfortunately won't be calling back in again.

Went for a birthday meal here on Saturday. As soon as you walk in there is a lovely warm atmosphere. Food was delicious! As were the cocktails, can't beat a good cocktail! The staff that served us were lovely, friendly and professional. Had a few giggles with them throughout our time there. It's lovely to have such amazing staff on what can be one of the busiest days of the week for business. Keep doing what you're doing, we'll be back! We popped in here just for a couple of drinks and could not believe how much they cost! We had a glass of red and a glass of rose and it came to just over £22!! Absolute rip off! I couldn’t believe it when he said the price and I will definitely will NOT be returning!

I am a regular customer at the Whittington Arms and love the ambience, the food and the service. I love the lay out as I'm a wheelchair user and it is easily accessible. The waitresses and waiters are always smiley, helpful and polite. Especially Carly who is often working when I visit. Nothing is too much trouble for her and she always makes sure everything is OK.
