The Sunday carvery is so yummy. Everyone is so friendly and welcoming. When dishing up our Sunday carvery the staff behind the counter encouraged my fussy child to try a new veg which was lovely of them to do. We’ve been here quite a few times as we live locally and will continue to come back many time in the future. Thank you to you all :)

The staff were friendly and helpful.the room was spacious, very clean and fresh. We loved the little touches like the hand written note and chocolates The bathroom was spotless and unlike most places we've stayed in, everything worked! There was an excellent choice at breakfast even for those who don't want a fried breakfast. Coffee was a little disappointing though. We ate one evening meal in house: again the staff were friendly and efficient. The menu us not exciting but the food was of a good quality. L in all we really enjoyed our stay and will be back

Strange but quaint place to get to. Be prepared for a staircase, a handrail on both sides, and you'll need it to, to climb upstairs. Once upstairs, we were approached by a smiling member of staff, who said, "Sit where you like." The floor slopes, but once seated, it seems you forget. We all had Devon cream & jam scone with a cup of coffee each. Wow, the scone freshly made earlier, was warm. It just melted in your mouth. Once you got the jam & cream on, or is it cream & jam. My aunt & I had a latte & my husband & uncle had a cappuccino. Stand carefully for the loo, you may fall. There is only one unisex toilet. We paid and left. Back down the staircase again....the restaurant is above a shop, which is situated by the museum. Not for disabled people..though I made it with my walking stick. No car parking.

I have a pet peeve against staff being dressed down in front of the public by management, but unfortunately that is what happened while we were at The Garrick. It doesn’t matter how good the food and drink is if you’re going to sit in complete discomfort after a grumpy manager has a very loud go at a young waitress just because she made a mistake. We don’t care about mistakes as we like being served by humans; we don’t like when bullies cause the same young girl to almost cry while being shouted at mere feet away from us while we try to enjoy our food (though I don’t think this should happen behind the scenes either, of course.) From reading another review, I see this is not a one-off incident. Not worth the awful atmosphere.

Of the meals we had, most were ok. Unfortunately the ‘Specials’ chicken burger was special because it was a tiny mini fillet of chicken in a burger bun and £16.50 for this mini fillet and chips (which was no different to the child’s portion of chips) which was just outrageous. We didn’t complain at the time as we didn’t want to ruin our night and we were rushed for time - but basically we wouldn’t recommend the place. Our garlic bread was £4.50 for a bap with butter on and pricey for what it was. The other meals were ok, but expensive for what they were and unfortunately not hot when they came out and came out not all together. It was busy, others seemed to be enjoying themselves but for us it was disappointing.

Absolutely brilliant service came in with my family and we had a friendly warm welcome. We asked the bar staff for help as some of my family have allergies we was treated by the chef at our table who advised us on the menu. The bar staff was amazing as was the chef. We've booked for Sunday lunch can't wait.

This is a yearly event, it’s convenient for people coming from all areas. We were very disappointed that with a room full of customers some residents of the adjoining Premiere Inn the bar was closed at 10pm. This hasn’t happened in the past & we weren’t made aware of it at the beginning of the evening. We therefore had to make our way into town to spend our money
