The Royal in North Somerset

The staff were friendly and helpful.the room was spacious, very clean and fresh. We loved the little touches like the hand written note and chocolates The bathroom was spotless and unlike most places we've stayed in, everything worked! There was an excellent choice at breakfast even for those who don't want a fried breakfast. Coffee was a little disappointing though. We ate one evening meal in house: again the staff were friendly and efficient. The menu us not exciting but the food was of a good quality. L in all we really enjoyed our stay and will be back

Perfect window seat looking out over the estuary. Very attentive staff, efficient service and delicious vegetarian food. Such a great location and for such a large venue the service was great

Three of us with small dog, well behaved of course, went for Sunday lunch. We booked late and were allocated a brilliant spot in the bar area. The only and very slight downside was that we had to take our order to the bar rather than giving our choices to a waiter/ waitress. One of our party was delayed by traffic, but this was no problem to the busy hotel / restaurant. ALL the food was delicious and promptly served. We had a small quibble with the bill and the manager immediately gave us a more significant reduction than our quibble warranted. How brilliant is that? Thank you. In our view this currently is the best of many eating places in Portishead - but book well in advance!

What a gem of a find and a genuinely superior dining experience. Under new management - would not only strongly recommend but emphasise this is a real 'must visit'. Very reasonable pricing just tops experience off. THANK YOU Chris!

We turned up with 2 wheelchairs and 2 on foot. They didn't turn a hair, seated us, helped move chairs, were super helpful. The food was lovely, very flavoursome. Unfortunately when we went to leave, through no fault of their own the access ramp was blocked. The staff were distraught, gave us drinks while we waited and made sure we were comfortable. All the time we were waiting for the ramp to become clear they were searching for alternative ways to get us to the car park. In the end, thanks to their kindness and help we managed it. We hope the person who was attended by the Paramedics is ok, and send all our thanks to the amazing staff.

This a very classy venue with well trained attentive staff. We only had a few drinks and some snacks but the beer garden is big and dog friendly, we had already booked to eat elsewhere but if we didn’t gave plans we would have definitely eaten here.

Great Location, friendly staff, good service slightly disappointed with food. The berry brioche although nice only had half a strawberry not strawberryS as on menu, and only 4 raspberries. The chef and brewer Benedict, both poached eggs were hard, hollandaise sauce thick and lumpy, and only 1 mushroom not mushroomS as on menu.

Booked an overnight stay after finding this hotel a few weeks back . Can say we were not disappointed, everything was great the room , food and especially the staff . Nothing was too much trouble even down to suggesting nearby walking routes for us . Kaitlyn the deputy manager was very accommodating as were other staff (sorry can't remember all your names ) . We are definitely coming back

We went to celebrate our mums birthday, there were 18 of us. We all found the meals very tasty and great value for money. Six of us stayed overnight, the rooms were lovely and great choices for breakfast from continental to a lovely cooked breakfast. The manager Kaman was exceptional, nothing was to much trouble for him and I felt he made our stay that little more special. The staff were also excellent. I would definitely eat and stay there again.

We have visited here twice in recent weeks, once for lunch & once for dinner. On both occasions we were greeted with a smile & shown to our table by attentive staff ( but not over the top) On both occasions we were with friends & all ordered different things from the excellent choice of food on two menus. The food arrived in good time & was well presented and tasted delicious for all of us! Can’t wait to go again, we love the atmosphere & decor, tables well spaced. Thank you

Yes, the food was very good but we had had to wait quite a while to be seated, our presence waiting at the bar not even acknowledged! But they were very busy, so we decided to be patient. Eventually we were seated, and our order came after about 20 minutes, not bad considering! My companion had the mushroom and ale pie with peas and new potatoes (which looked yummy and he confirmed was yummy). I went for the chickpea curry with naan bread, poppadom and basmati rice. Very nice indeed! The staff are very pleasant and jolly in spite of being rushed off their feet! As with everywhere now, they don't have enough staff!! The Royal is a beautiful building, well-kept and gorgeously decorated in a wonderful high position overlooking the sea (Bristol Channel). Marvellous views all round. Toilet is pristine! Highly recommended!

After a lovely shopping trip to Bristol city centre me and my family were curious to give The Royal Inn a visit , after many recommendations of the place. This is by far the most impressive pub we’ve been to! The christmas decorations looked lovely, you can tell a lot of time and thought went into making it look special. I was very shocked at how good the prices were so before the food came out I was a little apprehensive. The food was delivered in a decent timely manner and was well presented. Some of us had mixed grills and others had steaks followed by puddings. I would like to show some appreciation for the wonderful Natalie that served us. She was very professional and attentive throughout our experience. We all had a lovely time and definitely will be back again soon!

Decided to revisit this hostelry having had a poor experience on last visit. Overall an improvement in service and customer service. Food has definitely improved in quality and what we ordered on this visit was prompt, hot and good value. Update later visit by my wife - ordered medium/rare steak, received well done( wife is both a first class cook and domestic scientist) was told the steak was as she ordered and as it should be, my wife challenged and then had to wait a further long time to receive the dish which meant people she was dining with had finished their lunch Again, a falling standard in a 2 week period which, in this highly competitive environment in Portishead will lead to using other nearby restaurants before returning here

Not been in the Royal for years and what a difference the place is now fabulous all been modernised to a high standard and great food The outstanding memory of our group is the terrific service and attendance from Gabriella both crazy and brilliant thank you Gabriella for making our visit so enjoyable Thanks also to Kenny although very good as well was just overshadowed by exuberance of Gabriella Great food and great service 10/10

Great food, friendly service and views that are hard to beat. The make over of the interior works well too. So happy that The Royal is open again.

Another fantastic stay at The Royal, our third stay in the Hotel, 5 star rooms and the friendly warm welcome and great service is second to none. The dinner and breakfast were delicious and a lovely view to wake up to! We will be back again next year and look forward to it!

This is my second visit to The Royal since it was refurbished. I waited until my second visit to review to see if it was as good as i thought. It was. The christmas decor looks amazing and the pub is now cosy and comfy. The food was excellent, very tasty, came out hot and generous portions. My friend is a real foodie and proclaimed that the beef cheeks was one of the best pub meals she’d ever had. Service was also fantastic. We were looked after by Natasha, who seemed to preempt when we needed more drinks, dessert etc. She was friendly and chatty and we couldn’t fault the service. One of the managers saw me try and steal (jokingly) my friends cookie at the end… a few moments later, two cookies (still warm) were presented to us. So thoughtful and much appreciated. I can understand why you have to book so far in advance to get a table…. it’s worth it!

Beautifully refurbished old building. Comfortable, clean and welcoming. Good food too! We were able to bring our dog and sat near a window with a view of the Bristol Channel.

The Royal has always been a lovely venue but the recent refurbishment takes it to another level. We had a family group of 10 for Sunday lunch & were spoilt by being allocated a private dining room. The staff were so welcoming & attentive & the food fantastic. We’ll definitely be going back .

Went for a meal with family and friends, were seated straight away when we walked in and were told Paige would be our server. She came over and took our order for drinks and food when we were ready. All dishes brought out quickly and presented nicely. We had a selection of roasts and the duo of Korean chicken which were all lovely. Paige came back when we were half way through our meals to check on us and then again later on to ask if we wanted any more drinks. Our plates were cleared quickly and then we were asked if we wanted to order any desserts but we decided we were all full and Paige quickly got the bill sorted out for us and said goodbye and Thankyou on our way out. 10/10 visit would go again.

An amazingly transformed and updated location. Stunning decor with views across the channel. We had a fabulous family meal in our own lounge area served by Gabriella, who was so attentive and friendly that it made our night. We will definitely be returning.
