QUIZ NIGHT We have previously enjoyed going for dinner and joining in the quiz each week, but sorry you REALLY need to get the quiz sorted, because this week it descended into a total farce!! 1) teams need restricting to say 6, because currently its the same teams of 10-15 winning each week 2) Or handicap each team by deducting a point per team member from final total 3) Enforce the no googling policy, this week everyone was openly on their phones!! 4) Restrict time between questions to less than 1 minute to support the above and speed things along 5) Restrict the music round to a 10 second snippet of song. This week it was played for a minute plus until just before the chorus started, turning it into a farcical karaoke session, and added an extra 1/2 hour to session. (PS food and drink service always great!)

Had a 8oz stake was lovely, much better than the stakes in the mixed grill but was disappointed in amount of peas,single mushroom, and onion rings witch were from the size of a pickled onion but just a sliver picked off with a pair of tweezers batter blown up around it making it to look appealing. Lidl,s or Aldi,s puts yours to shame .

Lunch in The Stannary Court was an enjoyable experience. We had no fault with the place at all if we're honest. No complaints here. It's a Wetherspoons, yes. Therefore you know you aren't getting fine dining in any sense of the words and I'm absolutely certain Gordon Ramsay would do his little Scots nut if he wandered around the kitchen area. But then he doesn't charge seven quid for a meal does he. He'd probably bill you £20 to call you a knob and tell you to leave. Our curries, although not to to the Ramsay's exacting standards were perfectly acceptable for the handful of change we paid for them. We were more than happy to have a second drink to wash then down before we moved on to Plymouth...

Standard Wetherspoons fare - you know what you're getting and don't pay over the odds for it. Table service was pretty prompt despite a queue at the bar too. Will surely visit again!

Just what was required after a busy day relaxing time.

We were saying goodbye to our kids who came over to visit us. Their granddad had a stroke during Covid & it’s the first time they have all come over to see us. Excellent customer service & what I like is when the bar staff look up at you & acknowledge you. If only more businesses did this. Sid served us and gave excellent customer service. We use Wetherspoons a lot lately as I can push my husband up in his wheelchair & they are very disabled friendly. Thank you to the Manager & staff. Maureen & Robert

We come in here nearly every Saturday afternoon, always get good service and reasonable food . I don't understand what some people expect when you consider the price point. Staff are awesome and a special mention must go to Sid, who is truly a legend, never have I seen someone so happy to serve food and drink with such a spring in his step and a smile on his face. Team members could learn a lot from his attitude. Spoons is cheap and cheerful, and that's reflected in the quality and price of the food. If you're after better quality go elsewhere. Simple really. We love our spoons and will continue to be there most Saturday afternoons.

The staff are excellent, they work very hard to get food & drinks out promptly and stay on top of clearing tables. There's a manager who rushes around helping the staff in all jobs, he really leads by example and deserves a lot of praise. The app works well unless it's really busy and there are not enough staff, then you can wait some time. Food is cheap, however sometimes it's really not good or the portions are tiny. We usually stick to the small baskets of snack food as it's usually ok. The atmosphere is always nice and friendly. Edit: I have to mention manager Paul who is amazing & is always rushing around doing jobs with his team, also Sid who is like a ray if sunshine, so happy & jolly with all the customers.

9 customers and 1 barman, waiting 20 mins for a drink is a joke.

We visited for lunch period a few weeks ago and we had to leave without ordering any food. The tables were full of used crockery/utensils . Place was really not pleasurable to the eye.

Sometimes food is not as warm as it could be ..but we are a big fan of JD Wetherspoons 👍

Tuesday 4th June 15.15 - poor staffing, one bar man, busy pub, customers queuing - female shift manager had very little interest in helping or resolving drink orders - young barman clearly unsupported or appreciated. Shift manager walking bar doing menial tasks trying to ignore customers - poorly run pub in my opinion

Stale bread on bacon (pink rubber !) sandwich, over cooked hash browns and sausage, cold baked beans , absolute pits but on the plus side the coffee was good and bar staff were very friendly, suppose you get what you pay for, ideal place for cheap drinks but will avoid the food in future

Unfortunately the first meal of fish and chips was inedible I asked for it to be replaced this was done with no fuss and I had a delicious meal of fish and chips I accept that at 7pm they were extremely busy. But I had a lovely replacement meal and spent a nice evening with friends. Staff were excellent thank you.

Breakfast today no butter with toast unable to get any help from staff. Staff miserable like they did not want to be working. We witnessed 5 tables with dirty plates and cups not cleared away. Take our own wet wipes as table dirty

Our family visits a lot and always happy with the service. Prices are reasonable with a nice selection of menu choices.

Ordered the Beyond BBQ Stack Burger after seeing it advertised, as you can see it didn’t exactly look anything like the promo image. I emailed Wetherspoons head office about it and they don’t seem that interested.

Great breakfast at a great price

Always busy, I tend to go Fridays or saturday and get a main meal and drink, service is always quick and staff are good. Will go here for along as I will be in that area on them days

This place has improved no end over the last year. The food is very good and service is exceptionally fast even when busy. As with most large pubs, it is very noisey 😏 Only a problem for me due to hearing issues. The manager can be seen clearing tables regularly... Leading from the Front. Bravo Sir.

Does very much exactly what it says on the tin. Food and drinks are reasonable and very well priced. Thete are never enough people behind the bar though.

Had a great curry here, was delicious. Cheap pub for drinks & food. Good atmosphere however can get a bit loud, so not great for conversation.

Given wetherspoons up now never go to any of them anymore,the company has lost it,s way and only cater for the younger generation and nearly dead who enjoy mediocrity and accept being abused.

Lots of seating available with wheelchair accessible tables and floor. Can get full quickly. The out side are is also nice when its warm.

Shocking service from bar staff and food service, bar staff was to busy talking in his mic then to listen to are order 3 times told him no ice, ice came in the drink asked for all food to be served together, they brang my friends before mine and my daughters, I asked for hers to be taken back to be called a lier by the server when I informed her we'd requested all food at the same time , she left with the food , 15 mins later my and my daughters arrived, while I was stood cutting my child's food she return again with my friends food and continued the argument saying she found it highly unlikely we'd requested it all to be brang together , she was very rude and was trying to be intimidating, we will not be returning again

Perfect place fer a nice sit down meal n a decent pint.

"BZ," or Bravo Zulu in full, is a naval signal, typically conveyed by flaghoist or voice radio, meaning "Well Done" with regard to actions, operations or performance. Bravo Zulu is also the name of a real ale brewed by the Summerskills Brewery in Plymouth. This beer is expertly brewed by Norman at Summerskills and is on at the Stannary Court throughout the month of October save for when the Wetherspoon beer festival is on. Well done is appropriate as it along with Devon Dumpling have recently been well kept by the staff at the Stannary and real ale drinkers should give the Stannary and the above real ales a go. Simps!

Sid is genuinely the nicest person I’ve ever met, always happy and positive in his interactions with customers never without a smile on his face

Improved service since last visit.

Ordered a freedom breakfast, not sure what was wrong with it but it all tasted very bitter. I can only think it was something to do with the oil it was cooked in. Couldn’t eat it .

Visited here for lunch with friends, the food was fine, beer was good and the staff were friendly, no issues at all, one of the better Wetherspoons, well done.

My friends and I have been visiting this restaurant for our evening meal every Monday for a long time. The service has improved a great deal in recent times and it is now a real joy for the three of us every week. The food is delicious, excellent quality, nicely cooked and excellent value for money. The staff are always friendly and helpful. We are served very quickly now, never having to wait long at the counter and the meals arrive at our table very quickly. There is a lovely atmosphere at the Stannary Court which is an iconic reminder of our Plympton history with time-based decor and lovely pictures on the walls. We really enjoy our visits. A special mention to Ryan, a most charming, cheerful and helpful young man who always understands what we want. His colleagues are also excellent as well.

Earlier this year a new manager was appointed to manage this pub, it is my understanding that they previously managed the Savoy Spoons in Swindon, which is much larger than the Stannary. One of their first acts was to remove the Beer Bible, which real ale drinkers were able to make suggestions from and which showcased breweries by and large based in Devon. Shortly after it was removed I asked ther manager where the Beer Bible was and he replied unequivocally that it was being "updated." Several months later and the Beer Bible remains conspicuous by its absence. Used as a verb the dictionary definition of "updated" is to add new information or to make corrections, therefore it is hard understand why the Beer Bible has in fact been binned, at least metaphorically, although for all I know it may have been binned physically. This was not a good start, however since then things have actually got worse. Despite myself and many other real ale drinkers having been reassured by the new manager that at the very least the Bays Brewery Devon Dumpling would "always be on," it has not always been on and yesterday not only was it not on but there was apparantly none in the cellar. Given that there was no Devon Dumpling available and nothing of any note among the other real ales I departed, this is not the first time this happened in the recent past. The fact that the person who normally orders the real ale was on a well deserved holiday for a week is neither here nor there as the manager would have known they were going to be on leave and should have managed the situation, this state of affairs did not occur under the previous manager. However at the end of last week, with no Dumpling available, I noticed that Jail Ale was on and so ordered that. However as anyone who knows a ittle about real ale would have realised what was poured was NOT Jail Ale. I recognised the taste and immediately identified it as being Stag from the Exmoor Brewery. As I like Stag it was not a problem, however a real ale connaisseur I know ordered two pints of Jail Ale and quite rightly identified that it was not Jail Ale. For some reason the staff would not accept this person's word and they left the pub, with their beer left largely untouched. The following day I emailed the manager to let them know that they had the wrong pub clip on. Did I get a response? Thanks? No, I received no reply whatsoever. Poor customer service and yes I was correct and it was Stag that was being sold. What happened was a clear breach of Criminal Law, specifically the Consumer Protection Act under the Unfair Trading Regulations 2008. This states it is a "criminal offence to apply a false trade description to goods, or otherwise to supply goods which have been falsely described". In addition it is now clear that the real ale lines are not being cleaned properly and this is being noticed by increasing numbers of experienced real ale drinkers. Instead real ale drinkers are seemingly and doubtless unintentionally (I hope) being held in contempt. This is in stark contrast to families who frequent the pub with their children, some of whom scream at the top of their voices and throw their food on the floor. Why is there no sign stating "Accompanied well behaved children are welcome." I am confident that Tim Martin is no Woke, so why can those in charge of children who ruin the atmosphere for everyone else not be brought to book with a friendly word?

Received a cold breakfast, asked for a replacement which they did. 2nd breakfast arrived the same cold. Disappointed and will not be returning

Had lunch here in Plympton with a friend. The bar staff were lovely, as was the food, and our wine was served in glasses! Couldn’t fault the place. A very pleasant change from having a meal with my family in the Union Rooms a few days earlier, which was awful! Staff dreadful, food almost thrown onto the table, plastic glasses and this was daytime not evening, wrong food served. Will not go back there again

3 o’clock in the afternoon, it was not busy waited, at least 10 minutes, trying to get a drink was not acknowledged a woman behind the bar, dark hair, rude in the end, I walked out and went somewhere else

Disappointed with selection of real ales today, with a distinct lack of local ales. Standard regular ales such as Abbot, Doombar, Green King IPA were doubled up and one pump used for cider. leaving a limited choice. With regard to food choice was looking forward to the newly reintroduced Steak and Kidney pudding meal to find for the first time ever not part of the Stannary menu. Colleagues had afternoon fish and chip deal excellent fish but chips not the best most of which were left Overall disapoining visit and won't be back in a hurry

Acabamos de llegar para comer algo. No nos atiende nadie en la mesa ni tampoco nos hacen caso alguno. Después de casi 20min esperando dicen que tenemos que pedir en la barra. Pedimos y nos dicen que uno de los platos puede tardar hasta 40min en salir a la mesa. Tampoco hay tanta gente como para tardar eso!! Llegados los platos no son calientes del todo y hemos esperado 50min. Por lo menos han pedido perdón por tardar tanto.

Arrived at the stannery on Sunday evening 26/03/23 To find over have the menu was not available and most other customers leaving. Very disappointed after a previous visit. Poor organisation and management

This is a great place is you don’t mind overcooked/undercooked food, clearing your own table, hunting for your own condiments, searching for a member of staff, sticky tables, vile smell as you enter, never again!

My wife and myself went to this pub for lunch recently, we have friends and family in the area. After ordering our food and drink, my wife wanted a coffee with her meal, I went up to the lady behind the bar to find out about where we get the coffee. She said I will get to you shortly, you are on my list. I was a little surprised because normally they give you a cup and you self serve, so I assumed they did things differently here. Half an hour later, I went up again, and enquired about the coffee, she said bruskly she will sort it out in a minute, I said that is what she said half an hour ago and went back to my table. A few minutes later this member of staff came up behind me, shouted something I could not understand and slammed the cup on my table in front of me and went back to the bar. I went up to the bar and enquired what was going on, she said its self service. With no apology or explanation of her behaviour. I spoke with her manager who was totally not interested at all about the rudeness and awful service we had just experienced and laughed and thought it was funny. Do yourself a favour . . . "Don't Bother" . . . . this place is really bad!! . . .

Pancakes were like rubber and stuck together.... Obtained a refund

It started with no number on table. Eventually a member of staff informed us of number. Food arrived they were unable to give us the correct steak. When asked which one was medium we just got shrugged shoulders and maybe that one. My sun had pasta Alfredo which looked disgusting. It would have been nice if he could have eaten it hot. He had no cutlery. After asking 2 members of staff it eventually came. Meanwhile I had all but eaten my dinner. Having had a similar experience here before I tried to put it down to over busy but it’s not. This place is terrible. Can’t blame the staff really it’s just a shocking place to go. Avoid if you want a hot meal and it to be correct.

Not only did we have to wait over an hour for our luke warm food to arrive, we had free entertainment from a group of teenagers running in and out of the restaurant shouting and screaming at least 10 times. Not really what we expected...

Food over cooked and dry, desert fine, would never eat there agsin

Went at a lunchtime very busy. Managed to find a table but had to wait for it to be cleared. Had a meal that was the managers special of steak and chips for £5.99. Couldn't get a burger meal for that. It was lovely. 2 steak meals, onion rings and 2 gin and tonics for £20. Friendly staff too.

Thank you Stannary Court for a lovely breakfast this morning! Nothing too much trouble for staff who were clearly very busy. Food came after a very short wait and staff just so friendly & helpful!

I came here for lunch on a weekday, the first time I've visited in years - it looks like it hasn't been cleaned since. Looking through the dirty windows you can see empty tables littered with empty glasses, we picked the least cluttered table and decided to order through the app which is simple enough. Looking at the other tables you can see the dust and grime covering these. When the drinks arrived we asked for something to clean the sticky table with but they didn't return, when someone came to deliver the first plate of food we asked again and were given a cloth to wipe down the table. I ordered a mixed grill which was easily the worst meal I've ever had in a pub - a handful of peas and chips alongside four chargrilled chunks no bigger or thicker than a fried egg. So overcooked that I couldn't even decide what meat they are. No flavour and practically inedible. Around 10-15 minutes later, finally the remaining plates arrived with the children's food arriving luke warm and of equally poor quality. There are multiple other cafes lining this street, do yourself a favour and pick one of those - even if the food is of equally poor quality, at least you're less likely to stick to the tables.

Great place for food and drinks. Cheap enough not to break the bank so I can come here often without feeling the pinch. I don’t use the app so always order at the bar. They are understaffed but so are many hospitality places these days. Never had an issue with any of the staff, always polite and do their best (speak to people how you would like to be spoken to) Bottomless hot drinks, value for money food, free internet and a warm safe place is a godsend at the moment. Cheaper than being at home all day. I’d definitely recommend this place. If you want a meal that doesn’t break the bank and some chill out time, then this is a great place to go. Coffee mornings are also held on a Tuesday morning 9-11 for anyone that wants to join. Free coffee/tea and a nice space to come and chat. Beat the loneliness ❤️

We are regulars here at the Stannary Court, love the staff and atmosphere. However, tonight there were two in particular unruly kids. Who were allowed to run around the pub as they wished and nearly caused many accidents with the staff who were carrying hot...

Went on a Thursday 13:30 lunchtime and curry day. Really busy as also schools "results" day. Heather was working the bar doing App orders as well as serving customers at the bar and delivering drinks to tables all on her own. Really polite and friendly...

So popped in for a meal at 6pm drinks took a while but after almost an hour wait for food we left. Manager was very good but still the wait was unacceptable for Wetherspoons food...its not fine dining !!!! Still think it's rubbish they don't...

Drinks are cheap as is food, drinks "festivals" (gin, rum, cider etc) also good. Staff could do with training in drinks making and sometimes the meals come out with undercooked parts (poppadoms with curries). SOME waiting staff could be more interested and trained in customer service. Always untidy and always have to clear tables yourself, tables sticky. I think there is huge potential in open air area for stone baked pizza nights, hog roasts, guest ale bars or special cocktails perhaps. Great building which with new furniture and some brightening up could be great.
