Very disappointing. No offering of a bread choice! One soup starter (celery) only, whereby even the waitress said not many would like it, how right she was!! Menu was VERY limited but if you like fatty pork belly or beef rib you'll be fine; along with Burgers (na)!! No chicken (nearly everyone likes), or lamb choice available. 6 scallops as a main seems a ridiculous option with shell fish, when we could have mussels and prawns in the menu!! Chips were a frozen type which were not nice to eat. It could be so much better with a decent menu offering a good choice of meats for a main course within a great setting! Sticky Ox Cheek is now gone!! Unfortunately WE won't be going back anytime soon!!

Service really bad! Only saw waiter twice. At start and the. When ordering. We went to bar after eating and no show after 30-40 mins. Told him we are going there. Ordered drink and paid at bar and he left without giving us drinks again! Another 30 mins. The manager was at bar but did not offer Anything but say he’s not normally like that!

Wow, we had a fabulous meal, what a fantastic menu with so many delicious choices. I had the ribeye steak and my sister had lemon sole and then we had sticky toffee pudding with toffee sauce and clotted cream and a limongato. Everything was wonderful, delicious food, excellent table service, lovely atmosphere (we were particularly lucky to get a table overlooking the sea) and a really fabulous evening.

Booked table foran evening meal with friends, we have been several times before. Very busy Saturday evening, a friendly member of staff collected our coats and showed us to our table, in the window. Helpful waiter came over with menus, and took our drinks order. We all had a starter and a main course, all delicious, with a very good Chateauneuf du pape wine. No room unfortunately for desert. My only negative comment would be that a finger bowl and dish for shells should have been provided for the seafood dish. Would recommend.

Spectacular birthday dinner. We have a lovely meal at Ocean View. As soon as we entered the building, we knew it would be special. The atmosphere was amazing and the views over the sound is just incredible. The decor, the smells from the open kitchen and the low light ambience is exactly what we were after. The service was EXCEPTIONAL. All staff were great, but in particular Corey made our evening just that much more special so massive thanks to him for bringing the perfect mix of professionalism and banter. The food also lived up to our now high expectations. I went for the catch of the day which was so fresh and tasty and my partner who is a veggie also felt spoilt for choice and her meal was top class. Can't recommend this place enough we have just moved to the area and we can't wait to come back again and again.

Food was delicious, service was brilliant. Food came out super quick too and presented beautifully. We definitely had the best seat in the house which was great for a date. The only downside was that the windows were really scratched and condensated so couldn't really see outside very well! Would definitely come again and will be recommending.

Breakfast was appalling. See photograph of a £14 breakfast. Stingy portions and when asked if there were 2 hash browns (as my mother had been given 2 whereas I had 1) was refused another. My brother had a dry croissant and for the extortionate cost of it, was a very poor breakfast.

Stunning setting. Beautifully decorated and great views even on a rainy day. Road parking outside for a fee. Lovely friendly staff, fast service. Reasonable price for the afternoon tea. Nice big pot of coffee! The sorbet was amazing! So tasty and refreshing. Only marked down a bit because the prawn cocktail spoons were a bit bland and the lettuce sandwich mushy and we were given a small pot of jam and cream to share (we did ask for more, dont worry). The rest was amazing!

It is an immense shame that the service and management at Ocean View are so poor because the food is delicious. We had a couple of poor visits however due to the excellent food we decided to try again, unfortunately the management here have no ownership in their errors, instead they turn it to the guest as their fault and with very stand off demeanour. The chefs and waiting staff are undoubtedly let down at management level. Our server was left to deal with each issue we had, this should never happen with continuous mistakes. Glen should have dealt with us directly. I would avoid this restaurant if you want good standard of service, it’s as if you are an inconvenience to them.

The atmosphere was lovely. Although our visit was very disappointing, it was our first time eating here and unfortunately we will not be going back. We ordered the pork and played it safe with a beef burger. The pork was basic and bland and the burger was near inedible, the amount of salt left a horrid after taste and made it feel like I had drank a pint of sea water. We did relate this to the staff but were only met with a thanks for letting us know and an apology from the kitchen. We didn't order dessert as it was a huge put off and we had icecream at the ice cream van outside which was much better than what we were served here. Hugely disappointing as it was a special occasion.

The Ocean View at The Dome in Plymouth is a a mediocre restaurant with a few redeeming qualities. Upon entrance, you are greeted by a decent, circular bar. The bathrooms (the best part of the restaurant) play on a gold and navy scheme, with weak lights, putting a dark veil on your eyes. No windows (obviously) but thankfully, there is an air freshener bottle on the sink. Reception is polite and interior design match the maroon, gold and navy colours in the toilets. This place plays on its ‘ocean view’, which either is a) blocked by perpetual ‘ongoing works’ or b) you aren’t sat near the windows. On to food. Starters were nothing to write home about. I will take full blame for ordering chicken tenders in ‘Ocean city’, which were your standard out of the packet frozen chicken nuggets. I had a generous portion of mayonnaise with my starter and some sad looking greens. My main was the fish of the day plaice on a bed of green beans, new Cornish potatoes, tomatoes with a hollandaise sauce. This meal was at most okay. The fish is the only noteworthy aspect of the meal. The sides were essentially tasteless. At this point, my patience ran low so for pudding, I just wanted three simple scoops of good quality vanilla ice cream. If my patience ran low before the pudding, now it was in the negatives: three scoops in a melting soup of vanilla. Thank you. With my partner £100 down, service was the cherry on top. I usually empathise with waiters and I am inclined to do so here too, so just a few pointers for improvement: scribble down orders, don’t forget customers’ requests (e.g. tap water) and say your farewells with just slightly more enthusiasm. I don’t recommend.

Turned away fir a table at 20:17 as they stop taking orders at 20:15! We would've easily spent close to £200 on food and cocktails, their loss was another local establishments gain. Very quiet in there on a Wednesday evening, you would have thought that they would want the business. Have had cocktails there on the past, but I won't bother trying here again. Two minutes has lost a £200 cover!

I was impressed by the willingness to please customers and the lengths they would go, even though they cited they may get in trouble. One of the worst meals we’ve ever had in Plymouth. We ordered a pork Sunday roast, a beef Sunday roast and the fish of the day (happened to be plaice). The Sunday roast meats were both completely overcooked, they were both served with bland rubbery vegetables that seemed like they’d been cooked, reheated, reheated once more, and reheated yet again within an inch of their lives. The beef Sunday roast was inedible and was sent back. The fish of the day was also bland, lacked basic seasoning and the vegetables were sat in a buttery-oily-water. Our food came before the drinks order, had to chase drinks. Service overall was far from good. Considering the location and stunning view on offer this was utterly disappointing and completely over priced, we will not be going back.

We went to the Ocean View (The Dome) to have brunch on my partner's birthday. We were greeted and seated with a sea view. This really is a fabulous venue. We were served so well by Rowen who was so delightful she immediately raised the value of our experience there. Beautiful smile and so engaging, we asked after her accent and she told us she was from Minnesota. Her service was exceptional. We both ordered the Full Engish breakfast and I asked for no mushrooms at which Rowen offered an alternative item. The food was beautifully cooked and presented and Rowen returned to the table to asked if everything was fine with the meal, which it most certainly was. We eat out on a regular basis and what generally makes a difference is the quality of the service. The service we received at Ocean View puts so many other establishments in the shade. As a result we will be returning for their afternoon tea and my partner has also arranged with some girlfriends to go out for dinner. Thank you for making a Birthday treat so special on a rainy day and with special thanks to Rowen who provided the sunshine!

A shame that a beautifully located restaurant with lovely decor and great marketing does not live up to its advertising. Our steaks were considerably overcooked (I ordered rare and it was more like medium-well), just about warm and the sauces were cold. The restaurant area was cold too - another table even moved away from the AC unit and was questioned by a waiter who said “has she told you that you can move?!”. Sat for a long time with our plates at the end until we asked for the bill ourselves. It wasn’t particularly busy as it was a Wednesday evening. A poor experience for £28 steak each.

Went for afternoon tea as a party of 12. Unfortunately this was a disappointing experience. Lovely decor and amazing view but very disappointing service. Poor welcome, tea was served about halfway through the us eating and we had to go up and ask for milk. Some water glasses missing. One of our wooden shelfs that the afternoon tea is served had chunks of dust and fluff on the top. There was plenty of staff, but as we left, despite us saying good bye nobody answered or said thank you. We had no check back to see how things were. The food was alright but both the food and the bitty service would mean I wouldn't return and that's without taking into account the poor hygiene shown on the wooden display.

There is good and bad, 12 qualified patisserie chefs went for an afternoon tea to celebrate the end of our six hour synoptic level three exam, I can’t knock the food what we had was very good but the service was atrocious considering we were the only table in there on Monday afternoon, loads was forgotten we had to ask for including the milk and sugar for the tea and coffee they finally brought over, we never got our glass of champagne until we asked for it, then we all had to pass the champagne down the table like a school dinners! the wooden windows that contains the patisserie was cute but left them there even after we had finished eating from them so you had to chat to the person opposite you through a wooden slatted window which was a bit annoying and a bit ridiculous, so all in all, it just seems that they couldn’t be bothered to ensure you had a lovely time and if anything the atmosphere felt like you was a hindrance to them and they would’ve been happier if you hadn’t of turned up, this was not only the opinion of myself but quite a few of the others felt the same so go if you want and if you don’t get the right service make sure they know about it and I really hope they read this and make changes, because they really spoiled our celebration day and would not go back again!

We have been to Ocean View quite a few times before and recently we hosted some friends for a dinner at this location and I am very much impressed with the quality of service and food. We ordered most of the menu items in the menu and all of them tasted fresh and very flavourful. Sticky Ox cheek was to die for and the Tiramisu is heavenly. Menu could do better with a few more chicken options as the only chicken option we had was the salad. Our go to order before was a Lamb Confetti dish and that’s no longer in the menu which was bit of a bummer. If you are a sea food lover, you need to order their Sea food sharer from the sharing starters. Everything we ordered arrived on time and every dish was aesthetically pleasing. The cocktails were pretty and yum. Staff were very friendly as always and everyone enjoyed the meal. You need to do a preorder with them if you have more than 6pax and do a deposit when booking, it might look like a bit of a hassle, but it reduces a lot of stress when you arrive at the location. We were all stuffed to the brim and super happy when we left. Shoutout to Lihini who was our server for the evening. Keep up the good work and will definitely be back again.

So disappointed in our meal at The Dome. We had a lovely seat in the window but the service was shocking. It took a while to take our order but it took even longer to serve the food. We asked for no sauce on the burgers but that didn’t happen. We didn’t send them back for fear of it taking so much longer. Nobody spoke to us during our wait or asked if we would like any more drinks. When they asked about the food it had only just been served (different waitress). Then it took them 30mins to clear the table after we had finished. They weren’t that busy and plenty my staff just waiting at the serving hatch rather than checking on tables. Finally we had to ask for the table to be cleared and the dessert menu which they forgot to bring and had to ask again. My steak was lovely but the burgers and catch of the day was awful. The dessert was more cream than meringue so disappointing. We left with no further drinks as we worried it would take half an hour. Disappointed as it was my birthday meal.

Have eaten here a few times for all services and have mostly enjoyed the experience. Unfortunately the last two breakfast sittings have been disappointing. On both occasions the tomato has been cold and almost raw. For me a cooked tomato should bring out the natural sweetness of the fruit, but not here! The poached eggs on both plates on both occasions have been luke warm and slightly underdone. I can forgive the cooking but not the heat. WOW. Firstly what a beautiful Art Deco conversion from this interesting, historic building. When you walk in the space has the wow factor, the staff welcomed us and took us to our table over looking the sea with panoramic views. I love the attention to detail here with beautiful crockery and furnishings. The waitress from Argentina was so professional and couldn’t do Enough for us. My starter, which was a scotch egg, was cooked perfectly! Crispy shell and a soft egg in the middle. My main course the pork belly was so tender with crispy crackling and I loved the bubble and squeak. It was also a great main course size. The sticky toffee pudding was so light and fluffy. With clotted cream it was the perfect choice. Really the best I’ve had for a long time. The restaurant was quite busy for a Tuesday night which gave it a lovely atmosphere. Highly recommend this restaurant wether for a coffee, cocktails, or a meal. The views during the day are fantastic, out to sea. The decor is so elegant it makes you feel special just for being there. The food is extremely good and the staff are the icing on the cake. Cannot wait to go back.

Took my mum for lunch this week and nothing was too much trouble, was greeted with a beautiful window seat over looking the ocean and had the most amazing service from Corey, he couldn’t do enough for us and made the whole experience so enjoyable. Thank you Corey.

We visited ocean view for an evening birthday meal. I had booked a table for 5 at least a month in advance and my special requests were to be sat by a window seat.. I understand that this request cannot always be fulfilled but this was already a disappointing start. It took a while to get a staffs member attention but when I eventually did, I asked to be moved to a better table and at first the staff member I spoke to said there was no round table available. Yet all of us could see that there was. I then asked a second time and a manager eventually Sorted this and moved us to to a round table at the back of the restaurant that we were ok with. I’m not sure why this wasn’t sorted the first time I asked? I was also disappointed that the other special request I made over the phone which was to have a suprise birthday dessert sent to our table never happened. I could have spoken to staff but to be honest the atmosphere at the restaurant was not what we expected. The food was average and I feel that the staff weren’t attentive even though there was lots of staff working that evening. Our bottle of wine was not poured when brought to the table. And not once did any staff come over and ask how our food was. I wouldn’t rush to return I feel that this restaurant is sadly underwhelming. Which is a shame as this restaurant has so much potential.

Food was average actually the dessert the was great recommend the sticky toffee pudding and lemon cheesecake, but the sunday roast- beef was poor. Barely any meat and the beef was thinly sliced like it came from a sandwich filler. Great atmosphere and service, maybe come here to try other food.

Victoria, our host, provided an excellent service and made us feel comfortable. The food was delicious and we were impressed by the quality for the cost. We shall definitely be returning in the future.

So an update on my last review, which was a while ago. No change in the Bar, great location and view and of course the drinks. However since then we've been for dinner and I can honestly say it's well worth the visit. Great value, excellent service and great food. We loved it, and we will have dinner again. Cheers Ocean View! Previous Review - We've been watching the development of the Dome for a while and on the 1st November it opened. So what did we do? We checked it out. When we ventured in you could say they still had the soft opening in progress, however what a venue. Great interior and the view is outstanding. The staff are well presented, still finding their feet but a great effort. We had a couple of cocktails, a Espresso Martini and a Gin Sling. Over all a well deserved effort on their first few days. Good luck and well be back.

Visited and dined after Graduation Event as a celebratory family meal. Wonderful service from the whole Ocean View crew. Efficient and attentive crew members from the Bar Team, Welcome Host and Waiting Staff. Food choices catering for all requirements and not overpriced as some places can be. Will definitely visit again when back in Plymouth and would highly recommend to anyone. Thank you for being the perfect end destination for such a special day.

Spent my late afternoon on Monday there with a mocktail and some savory snack. At this moment of the day, the bar was totally empty. The interior and sea view is gorgeous with more space downstairs but I didn’t explore.

My wife tried to sort out a booking through the app, completely stressed us all out and we haven’t even got there. Why have you made a pleasurable event so difficult. Bin your app and start treating your customers with respect.

Sorry, but this place has really gone down since it opened. It used to be so good - a bit special. This was our fourth visit - maybe our last. We wanted a pre-theatre meal with early cocktails, so booked a table for 6.00, arrived at 5.00. They seem extremely short staffed - all very nice but only one person serving in the bar. No table service and had to wait ten minutes at the bar. Drinks a bit spilt and lacked pzazz - had to go and fetch little mats to wipe up. Got to our dinner table at 6.00 and ordered immediately - three salads nicoise, three glasses of wine. The salads were not great - loads of green beans and red onion, an egg, little sole fillets and some garnish, took 40 minutes to arrive. Knocked them back, paid and left.

We felt it was a bit pricey. Would have liked a fried egg but only poached on the menu which came as a hard yolk and bacon was undercooked. My daughter's scrambled egg was Luke earm. No other person was dining which is always a bit uncomfortable. Beautiful place, we looked at the afternoon/evening menu and felt for us the food was too fancy/different so would not go, however it must appeal to some. We will not be returning as we wanted to see what it was like whilst the offer of buy one get one half price breakfast.

We popped in for a drink earlier. Greeted by Saffie who was warm and friendly. The bar tender was polite but didn't really seem inviting and the coffee he made wasn't great but drinkable. G

Last year we discovered the unattended converted horse box near Devonport Park but in January we found the established shop/cafe in Albert Road. Very friendly and good selection of food all home baked. We think round the back of this cafe.
