Alright Spoons but a bit narrow. The biggest issue was no phone signal, no WiFi and only one person behind the bar so a long wait to be served despite being a quiet Sunday evening. The staff tried their best but also a lot of items were out of stock making it even slower.

A fairly typical Spoons regarding service. The barmaid didn't give a smile, but poured a good pint of 'Festive Ale' on tap which was only £1.99 - excellent value if I'm honest. I didn't have food, as Wetherspoons grub has gone somewhat downhill in recent years, so stayed away from that one. A great location on the edge of the Barbican however and a nice seating area outside to watch some of the Plymouth public walk on by. Will I go back again? Yes, of course - if only for a well-priced pint of ale. Cheers all 🍻 5 stars given as a good pint was pulled at a very good price at a good location.

Absolutely disgusted. We ordered sirloin steak medium rare. One with chips one with jacket potato. We were in Plymouth, visiting, looking for the sights and sounds. Naturally we headed to The Gog And Magog for a spot of lunch. Named after a mythical giant and his land, apparently; The pub is a Wetherspoons establishment. For that reason, we knew exactly what we were going to find within and we were exactly right. Another dreadfully designed carpet, run of the mill tables and chairs, the blue patterned plates, toilets with a steady trickle of urine under each and every urinal, standard stuff. The Gog served us up a couple of chicken wraps with stodgy chips in good time. It was adequate, nothing more than that. The actual wrap was tasty, but the chips were average at best. All in all, the pub was a pleasant enough way to kill an hour while walking around Plymouth. It did the job.

We all know Wetherspoons for its historic buildings, excellent alcohol at the cheapest prices, and good food at reasonable prices (although, slowly, the price of food is becoming standard with other restaurants; e.g., for a few pounds more, you can buy a pasta Alfredo at twice the size in an Italian restaurant). Normally, I would give a 4 star rating for the Gog & Magog, but my last visit gave me a shock, as I was asked by the manager to deny my own experience. The cheek! I ordered a large fish and chips but was given a small size. When I complained, the manager argued that it was the standard large size, although he did kindly reordered for me. The reordered fish was twice the size, yet he insisted the size was the same, only the first fish looked smaller because the ends were curled (the curvature didn’t make much difference, by the way). The manager did say that the fish came in 2 sizes, and the 1st fish was in the large batch, so it could be a fault with the packaging and distribution of food, but his mistake was to imply that my cognitive faculties are not up to scratch. I have reason to believe that the food arrives at the Wetherspoons pub precooked and reheated on the premises. For example, I am told that the poached eggs for eggs benedict haven't been delivered, and would I like fried eggs instead? Wetherspoons in general, and the Gog & Magog, in particular, need to lower their food prices as it's food cannot compete with freshly cooked food of the restaurant.

Very disappointing. No offering of a bread choice! One soup starter (celery) only, whereby even the waitress said not many would like it, how right she was!! Menu was VERY limited but if you like fatty pork belly or beef rib you'll be fine; along with Burgers (na)!! No chicken (nearly everyone likes), or lamb choice available. 6 scallops as a main seems a ridiculous option with shell fish, when we could have mussels and prawns in the menu!! Chips were a frozen type which were not nice to eat. It could be so much better with a decent menu offering a good choice of meats for a main course within a great setting! Sticky Ox Cheek is now gone!! Unfortunately WE won't be going back anytime soon!!
