Great friendly service in an amazing place with lots of history. Food was lovely, the setting is wonderful, staff went out of their way to welcome us. Absolutely well worth a visit. The rooms looked great too.

We phoned on a wet Sunday and were lucky enough to get a table for the Sunday Carvery. I was slightly concerned at being asked to pay for the meal before I had even sat at the table, and I also found it odd that we were unable to add drinks to our bill (you have to go to the bar and pay for those separately). We decided to stick with it and I'm very glad we did because the meal itself was superb! A choice of three different meats, Yorkshire pudding, stuffing and probably ten different varieties of vegetable gave plenty of choice. My wife had beef and turkey, while I had just beef and without a doubt it was one of the best roast lunches either of us have ever had. Everything was perfectly cooked and tasted fantastic (the Cauliflower Cheese especially was superb). THOROUGHLY RECOMMENDED and I would go out of my way to eat here again.

Great ales, lovely food, friendly staff. They managed to fit all 22 of us in for a light lunch, after a grueling walk up Little Hangman.

We stayed overnight here it is a lovely place. We had dinner that was excellent also breakfast was really good too. The room and bathroom was very nice. Very clean. This is a very old building so there are a few quirky things going on but it adds to the atmosphere. Staff are very helpful and friendly. Fully recommend.

Stayed very close to this pub and visited quite a few times for drinks and food. The pub has a big beer garden and a separate conservatory for eating in, the pub section is quite small but allows dogs and children. The range of drinks is very good and the food selection is quite varied as well with the food being of good quality and the Sunday carvery being very good. The staff are really friendly and if you just want a quiet drink this is the place for you

We were first at the carvery on a Sunday. You could not help yourself and portions served were pretty small without asking for more. The gravy was a packet mix and the overall quality was disappointing for the price to be honest.

I stayed in Combe Martin 40years ago, but never got the chance to visit the pub. So, passing through I had to stop, from what I remember, there are 52 windows ( one for each card of the pack ). The welcome was "tepid". When I asked for a "dimpled handle", I was informed there is only one and I couldn't take it outside ! . Nevertheless, my pint of Dartmoor "legend' was a good temperature and an average price. On our way out, a couple were having possibly the biggest pie and burger I have ever seen, so I assume portions are ample.

Having used the restaurant on Friday night, we decided the book Sunday lunch. Big mistake, without a doubt, the worst carvery we have ever experienced. Very disappointed and appalling value for money.

A well known venue for us but not reviewed for a few years. Chris and his team do a great job and since the 'considered re-vamp' of their offerings a few years back, they seem to have maintained that standard. A small thing it may be BUT their chips are exceptionally good in my opinion, delicious. I had the sea bass with crab risotto for my main dish - best sea bass dish I have EVER eaten, simple as that. A generous portion cooked with genuine yummyness! We had a prawn starter with an Indian spiced crumb, which was nothing special to be honest but I can allow them that on the basis that the rest was first class. The children had battered haddock for main - gorgeous! As always, we will be back. Thank you gang.

Smooth and polite check in . Rooms where very spacious and the bed was comfortable. Had the best nights sleep of the week here ! Woke up to breakfast was 10/10

The pub food at the Pack Of Cards pub was just so shockingly good, each & every mouthful was pure delight, in fact our whole dining experience was perfect. From walking in & receiving the warmest of welcomes ,the low lit dining area ,seating, the service, even the 80s music playing in the background added to the perfect pub dining experience. First class, without being pompous & pretentious.

The Sunday lunch is very good but we went for a meal on Tuesday lunch and I'm can not eat garlic onions or cheese So I at to have a plan baked potato the menu is not good for people like me

Got told to go here by a lovely lady in the premier shop with intent to book Sunday Lunch tomorrow ?? We went for quick drink and a nibble? Was told the food was going to be brought to us , the lady behind the bar was really nice x Thankyou …. Food came and was told that we had to sit outside …BUT the rude OWNER was sat inside the bar eating ,,, we asked why we couldn’t eat where we was sat the reply was HE OWNS IT ,He is a horrible patronising man .. We booked for Sunday lunch ahead of a large family visit to the area; carvery was outstanding! Garden was perfectly laid out for casual dining as you don’t feel ‘on top’ of each other & opportunity for ‘sun or shade’. We went back again on the Fri night… again not disappointed. Menu catered for all tastes & everyone delighted. It was obvious we were ‘tourists’ but were welcomed as if locals & valued customers. Special mention to the staff; a happy, hard working & responsive team that absolutely should be cherished! Thank you 😍

Hair in food - leaking roof . Rude manager . Tried to contest about the hair, didn’t realise we could hear her. Coat soaking wet by roof leak . Poor staff apologising for service and hair in food, would not recommend.

We had a carvery here on Sunday - we had booked a table, glad that we did as it was very busy. Service was really quick for drinks, daughter ordered off the kids menu (burger and chips) staff said it would take 10 minutes to arrive and it did so we got our carverys at the same time. Best Pork crackling I think I've ever had! All the food was lovely, staff were nice. Quirky building, gardens looked nice but it was heavily raining so didn't see them properly.

the Pub has a really spacious garden with lots of tables and chairs and play area for children. Good select of beers and especially non alcholic beers and spirits too. We eat in the resturant on the thursday night. Hubby had the sea bass which he really really enjoyed - i had leak and cheese pie which was lovley but i couldnt eat for about 15 mins as it was very very hot . The waitresses worked so hard and nothing was any trouble for them Its a bit pricey for the food and there are plenty of other places to try for food so for one night it was ok

Carvery laid out well and staff serve you. You can choose from 4 different roasts (or have 3 slices from different meats) and there was a good selection of potatoes (roast, diced, dauphinois) and veg (leeks, buttered carrots, cauliflower cheese etc). Our plates were heaped. Absolutely delicious. Highly recommended.

We went here three times on our recent holiday in Combe Martin which says it all really. We visited first of all for the carvery on the Sunday afternoon, it was excellent ! generous portions beautifully cooked, good choice of beers as well. We went again two more times in the week and both times the food was very good as well, prices were fair, staff very polite and friendly, the bar area is intimate with a good atmosphere, large beer garden if the weather is nice.

The picturesque grounds and stylish restaurant appeared ideal for a meal with the family, but the welcome I received at the bar was abrupt and unfriendly. Quickly decided to take the family elsewhere for the evening. It fitted the mould of a business that has a ready supply of tourist trade and no care for whether those customers would return. It’s a shame as the waiting staff were very helpful and friendly upon arrival.

We were staying nearby and went for the carvery. I'm gonna sound like a philistine but for the roast pork and lamb weren't properly cooked, I'm sure all chefs out there are shouting at me now! If you divided it by 3, the centre ring was red with blood, the inner ring was pink and the outer ring was brown, they knidly put mine in combi oven for a few minutes, my wife had the turkey because she didn't know they would do this. Someone queueing with my wife asked for the side bit of the meat, as it was cooked, the chef/server said no.The vegetables were delicious and there was a wide variety, it wasn't self service and the plates weren't that big so you really had to pile it on, overall though worth the £16.95 a protion, I thought 2 drinks were a bit pricey at over £12 though. Also you had to get your buffet ticket from 1 room then your drinks from the adjoining bar next room.

Absolutely amazing. Excellent service, beautiful food and great atmosphere. I'd absolutely recommend it and will be a constant returner when in the area. Definite 10 out of 10.
