Went in here tonight for a few drinks before going to the local Indian restaurant. My wife and daughter sat down and i went to the bar where there was no one waiting to be served, I waited whilst the staff continued talking to other customers sat drinking at the bar but was ignored. A couple came in behind me and they must have been regulars as the bar staff went to serve them, only when I stated I was next the attitude I received was not that of good customer service. There are far better pubs in Paignton, give this one a wide birth

No food, very run down. If this warrants a 4.0 rating I daren't set foot in the other lesser rated pubs on the area. Screaming kids running riot too. Obviously have no homework to do!

Great place, with beer at decent prices, and fantastic staff. Can’t understand the negative reviews. This is a proper pub, without the food. The bar maid and was really friendly, smiley and the customers that I saw thought she was great. Forget the negative reviews and give the Isaac Merritt a chance.

The reviews seem quite unfair about this place. It is an ex-wetherspoons. Sadly the kitchen is currently permanently closed. Service is friendly and quick, although pricing a little off, shandy is more expensive than a pint! Music is a tad loud now I'm in my late 30s!

EDIT: Zero Stars! Because I put an honest review, the owner replies with lies. You (owner) do not know me & did not know when I visited this pub & had to resort to LYING to try and make this awful pub look good and me look bad. Shame on you! Since Wetherspoons sold it, this has gone down massively. The place is dirty & needs a good clean everywhere, the glasses are stained with lipstick & smears, even after asking for it to be replaced, another dirty glass. The ale tasted like it had gone off and out of date. Hardly any customers on a Saturday night with music blaring loud. The staff didn't seem to give a damn and just wanted to close early and go home. Such a shame as it used to be a great pub. Don't recommend going.

I don't understand all the bad reviews u people have posted up against this bar. I go in here often and always had a nice quiet pint.. I don't get any bother at all. The staff are always nice polite and friendly. I know they allow dogs In and again I don't believe dogs should be allowed on the seats which are for customers and that's something quite simple that management need to sort out. There's always a good choice of real ales. The pool table is in the wrong place to play pool but could be move somewhere a bit better than where it is. They have music and karaoke nights also a game called find the joker... maybe soon a quiz night too.

What a shame ...when this was spoons it was great...much as other reviews the places only saving grace is the reasonable priced beer ...needs a deep clean..and some reparation. Thursday night and bar closed at 10pm ...no mention of this on the Facebook site nor in the bar . Potentially a great venue but an unnannoced 10pm closure is unacceptable.

Beer is okay, but the rest of the place needs a make over. Also, why do people with dogs think they have the right to allow their animals onto the seats especially when they are dirty and wet. I do not mind dogs being in the pub! The staff didn't bother to tell them to move. Poor. They would have got a score of 3 if they had sorted out the dog issue. Other people may sit on the seat which is now dirty. I doubt that it will be cleaned!

Myself and my partner came to Issac Merrit on Monday for a quiet drink. Sorely disappointed by the staff, in particular the pregnant lady with blonde hair. Quite clearly inebriated not only whilst pregnant but also on duty. It was quite clear there was drug usage, and free drinks being given out freely. Outside smoking, not washing hands and serving customers.

We popped in last Sunday morning for a breakfast. The barmaid was very friendly, only one menu available at the end of the bar, which was ok. We ordered a small veggie and a small traditional breakfast. After a good 25 minute wait (only three other people in there) we heard "you've forgotten the sausage on this one", and our breakfast arrived. My partner had two veggie sausages instead of one, I was missing mine. And it never appeared. The bacon was overcooked, and even for 'small' the portion was tiny. Hot drinks unlimited but more expensive than Spoon's. Tried it, but won't go back.

Visited for lunch yesterday, menu has changed and not for the better. They had food delivery issues which meant options weren’t available until you went to order. My MIL finally got her third choice after scampi and jacket potatoes were unavailable. Ordered fish, chips, peas and tarter sauce and two fish finger sandwiches with tarter sauce. Orders turned up with no tarter sauce. Not really a problem with the fish and chips but left the fish finger sandwiches very dry and not what was ordered ir expecting to receive. In fact they weren’t fish fingers but fish gougans that came with a limp looking side salad and again no dressing. To top that off one of our orders was missing as is hadn’t been put through at the till so member of the party had to wait for their order as we ate ours. Perhaps issue receipts so that the customer can check?I did suggest to the person behind the bar that they should perhaps get some essentials in as there is a Tesco’s around the corners but they acted very disinterested and not bothered at all.The pub is ok for a drink as they are pretty cheap for an independent pub but we won’t be visiting again which is a shame as the last review I left was very complimentary so I don’t know what’s changed.

Came away bitterly disappointed. This was to be a 'milestone ' birthday treat. We were looking forward to a beautiful afternoon tea with a table covered with a crisp, white tablecloth, laidened with delicious teatime treats overlooking Torbay. The experience was nothing like we had hoped for. No one to meet and greet us upon arrival. We were initially ignored then directed, not shown, to a cracked brown formica table 'set' for us with two paper napkins, knives and forks and two glass tumblers, in a corner, away from the main dining area and the window. Eventually, we were approached by Heidi, whom we assumed to be restaurant manager. We asked to be reseated and a table was cleared for us. We were served a pot of tea for two and awaited our food. An hour later, we were still waiting. During that time we witnessed several disgruntled customers complaining. Although there were three waiters present, we did not receive any service or attention from them. After an hour, Heidi reappeared and was very apologetic. She offered us a complimentary glass of Prosecco. Our booking had been for 3pm. By now it was 4.30. The food arrived and like the tea table, was nothing like we were led to expect. The sandwiches were not as described on the menu. Some of the fillings were spread so thinly that they were difficult to identify. The pastries were missing. The cakes were not the patisserie style fancies shown in the promotional pictures, but more like traybakes cut into different sized chunks and didn't seem particularly fresh. Our teapot was refreshed and we were given new cups and "saucers", which turned out to be side plates. Heidi did try to make us comfortable, but by that time, all hope of enjoying our afternoon was lost. We did ask a waiter for a box to take our cakes away but were told "We don't do boxes" and we're directed to a pile of paper napkins and told to help ourselves. The three saving graces are; At £25, it wasn't the most expensive afternoon tea. I would have paid more for a first class experience. Heidi did her best to keep customers happy, with what appeared to be very little support from her colleagues. Whatever the Imperial are paying her, it's not enough. The one thing that the hotel did deliver on was the magnificent view, but I give the Imperial no credit for that whatsoever. Lastly, I sent an email to the Imperial later that day, and to add insult to injury, now, almost a week later, have had no response. NB. Pictured - what the Imperial's advertising led us to expect. NOT what we got !
