We were on an overnight stay and looking for a place to eat. We popped in on the off chance. Staff were very friendly and were able to accommodate us. My husband had the scallops starter and would highly recommend. I had the pate which was very nice. The prawn Thai curry was very nice. Would recommend but advise you book

Visited here twice during my stay when in the area and it was nice to see this restaurant has been refurbished to a nice level once again, first visit since change of ownership.Service and food was as good as ever, and choice of food (fish) was good, nice to see other meat options now available, but as in Brixham harbour fish always wins for me.Would definitely recommend when in the area, and I will be back very soon.

Brixham cannot be beaten for excellent fish, so why choose a steak ?. The answer is Harbour Hot Rocks at Crusoe's. Tender and tasty, but more to the point, cooked exactly as you like it - because you do it yourself.

Ate here a couple of weeks ago,for the first time since this place was taken over (used to be the poopdeck). The restaurant has had a fabulous makeover. The decor is now very welcoming, and the new layout equals much more room which was really needed here. Gone is the claustrophobic feeling of too many tables in too small a space. The food was very good. I would recommend a hot rock steak, it was delicious, as was our shell fish starter. The staff were very friendly. Nothing was too much trouble. I look forward to another visit soon.

My partner and I had tried this randomly one evening. The staff were very friendly and accommodating, however, the food didn't quite hit the mark. I ordered the steak burger, of which the chips were excellent, but the actual burger was a little too salty. My partner had tried their vegetable lasagne, of which he did not get the side salad, which was stated on the menu, so the whole plate looked more like a starter (Small size for a main meal, especially when missing the side salad). Also, it was a shame, as I had a chipped glass and dirty cutlery (Not very good for a new restaurant). Apart from that, it was good and the views were great!

Ate here with our two children who shared a fillet steak on the ‘hot rocks’. Steak was fantastic and staff very accommodating to split it between the kids and give them their own ‘rocks’ to cook on. I was a tiny bit disappointed that the lemon sole on the specials board ended up being a fillet rather than whole (it didn’t say that) - I probably should have checked, but it was still delicious. 4 of us visited this restaurant over the Xmas period. The menu was limited due to this time of year, which was fine as we all found something we liked the sound of. Just changed ownership, and not very good compared to its reputation. No menus, had to go to the bar to read a board, then specials on mobile chalk board which you had to wait for others to finish with. No bread served with starter (had to ask, and got some with the main; and only for one of us); starters overpowered with garlic, mains (1st: prawn, scallop, monkfish in whiskey sauce) just about cooked, no texture, just overpowered with garlic, and no taste of whisky ... (2nd: neptune seafood plater), brown crab meat served in scallop shell?? Why?, lobster very rubbery and wrong tools provided to open up the shell, tonnes of prawns and langoustines, but everything just overpowered with garlic. Wine selection limited to 3 bottles of red or white. The only saving grace, was the waitress (Diane), who was very professional, caring and lovely. Overall, the food was not bad, but the reputation of the restaurant was not lived up to

We booked as very popular, small quaint restaurant. Easy to miss as quite hidden. Very intimate approx 10-12 tables only. Open kitchen so you can see all the action. Literally right on the harbour quay of the fishing port of Brixham with stunning views over the harbour. If you want fresh seafood there isn’t any place better! Service was good, waitresses couldn’t do enough for you although they were run off their feet. Bless them - food for a small restaurant they had a good range of dishes . We went for the famous Neptune’s feast for 2 which consisted a hot shellfish platter of a whole lobster, crevettes, crab, scallops, shell on prawns, king prawns, mussels and oysters, finished with a side salad and bread. Believe me you didn’t need any more than that. We wanted a seafood menu as were staying in Brixham in the fishing harbour and we had pretty much everything seafood all in one meal. Absolutely fabulous- they deserve a good rating and credit

We reserved a table for three, on the occasion of a birthday. Our waitress was KERRY, a very cheerful, delighful lady. The menu was not vast, but contained a good variety of all the seafood for which Brixham is justly famous - fish, mussels, scallops and crab, together with a small selection of steak and pork. We selected two helpings of monkfish and prawns cooked with whiskey and cream, and one stir-fried monkfish in ginger and chilli sauce. Perfect. We followed this with two portions of skate and vegetables, and one red mullet. Again, the food was so fresh, and cooked to perfection. We ate a dessert each - summer pudding, lemon brulee and blueberry cinnamon cheesecake. All three were simply delicious. It was a really lovely meal and we rate it 5* for service, food and value.

A real mixed bag. My main of monkfish in Parma ham was delicious. My partner's satay monkfish was a slushy tasteless mess. Starter of mackerel pate was great but the prawn starter not so good. The peeled prawns tasted just like frozen packet ones and there was uncooked garlic in the sauce which is nasty. Nothing was seasoned properly. We booked a table for 4 and 2 of the party had The Neptunes Platter a dish that both had previously had and enjoyed several years ago. The first thing we all noticed was how quiet they were. As we were sitting down we were told that there was only one Neptunes Platter available. That wasn't a problem as 2 of us we're going to share it (£35 for 1 or £45 for 2 with extra lobster and oysters). Then it struck us. There were only 6 other diners and it was 8:30 so that meant that the kitchen was not stocked. It was New Years Eve and so that was clearly going to disappoint. Unfortunately it gets worse. There were no oysters and so extra mussels were added. The first point is the huge difference in price between oysters and mussels. The second point was the mussels themselves. The smell clearly indicated that they were "off" and I discreetly put that to a member of staff at the end of the meal on the way to the loo. I explained why the mussels remained untouched and asked him to smell them when he took them back to the kitchen. I thought that a member of staff might have a discreet word as we left but alas no. In fact the chef indicated that 2 tables had cancelled that evening. In that case surely the kitchen was ridiculously understocked and what was there might have been there for some time. A reduction in the bill might have been the appropriate gesture but again alas that didn't happen and so we paid the bill and left in the knowledge that that would be our last visit as it's clear that unfortunately something has happened over the years and it has deteriorated as a result. A great shame.

Had great seat in upstairs window looking out over the harbour. Staff were really friendly and helpful and gave us some much appreciated advice on where to go and things to see.

Just had a lovely meal at the Poopdeck. Managed to get in on a busy Friday evening. Even though all the tables had arrived early (as we did because of forecast heavy rain) Connie and the team managed the situation well, keeping everyone happy and well informed

Excellent food, the meal provided, nourishment, entertainment and it was a challenge to finish it. All fresh seafood, lobster, crab shrimp prawns and much more. The service was personal and friendly.

Went twice over a period of 3 weeks. Won't be going again. The service was fine but the food was disappointing. The second time was a party of 4 and none of us were impressed.

Terrible visit to this restaurant. Firstly, the waitress through a glass of wine over me! She was apologetic but then went on to say the wine we were drinking wasn't sold by the glass so she could try and reduce our bill by that glass but she didn't know how she would or she could replace it. It was my husband glass that was knocked over by her so he asked for the glass to be replaced which she proceeded to do - not topping my glass up!! I was the one sitting in the restaurant with wet trousers!!!!The food was so so bland and tasteless. I had turbot which had no taste my husband had skate and we were given potatoes to share that were meant to have bacon in but I didn't see any and once again they were flavourless. Would never even think about going back.

Very long wait for food! When it arrived it was dull and bland. Also had to deal with a family with crying baby who seemed ignorant of the noise. Management ignored the problem. Meal was over priced and too long in coming. I would not use Poopdeck again.

The Poopdeck was just that, poop! Well, the food at least. We had the Neptune's Feast and the scallops and mussels were ok but nothing really tasted fresh, food was over cooked and just terrible. The wine and small side salad were the only thing I can say we enjoyed. The crème brûlée dessert was also not good; tasteless custard lacking vanilla and caramel. Needless to say, we were disappointed.

We had booked this restaurant for a Groupon deal. We hadn’t visited the area for some time due to work commitments so were looking forward to coming here for a nice lunch. We had been walking around the shops when the weather became wet and very cold so we arrived at 1pm instead of the 1.30pm that we had booked the table for. We ordered our drinks ( a pot of tea that came with the deal and a Diet Coke). Several people arrived after us. We waited, and waited, and waited whilst everyone received their meals. We were on the verge of leaving at this point. The bread and butter had been on the table for some time already at this point. It finally arrived 50 minutes later. The fish and chips with peas were delicious, hot and lovely crispy batter with very nice chips, nothing was greasy at all, just what we had hoped for. I would have given a higher score if we hadn’t waited so long! ( I appreciate we were early but should have been told if we would have had to wait so long. My pot of tea went cold very quickly). We could have gone somewhere else for a hot drink and returned at 1.30pm if we had known.

How can you ruin a fruits de mer? Not sure but they did. Everything was boiled to death. No sauces offered. Best thing was the salad

Booked lunch for Friday and arrived to a very friendly greeting and a table overlooking the harbour. As we have just moved to the area we were eager to find a restaurant serving locally caught fish. We were not disappointed! Dover Sole cooked and presented as requested and the Lemon Sole from the lunchtime specials menu was equally as good and incredible value for money. The ambiance was similar to a French Bistro and may seem dated to some, however if it is fresh fish you want then the Poopdeck certainly delivers. This will be a regular venue for us in the future.

Called today for lunch. It is upstairs, and when you get to the restaurant there is a fantastic view of the harbour and the cliff houses on the other side. Our order was taken for their fish chip and pea offer with bread and butter, we also ordered tea for two. The tea arrived quickly with the bread and wrapped butter. The fish and chips arrived a short time later. The presentation was excellent and we couldn't believe the amount of fish which was delicately placed over the chips. Everything was really good and so much lovely fresh fish. Staff were really attentive even though they were really busy. They had a leaflet for Christmas and other menus which they are doing until then, they are very interesting and we feel that we will attend these because of their attentive service and lovely fish and chips. Thanks very much. See you again.

Came away bitterly disappointed. This was to be a 'milestone ' birthday treat. We were looking forward to a beautiful afternoon tea with a table covered with a crisp, white tablecloth, laidened with delicious teatime treats overlooking Torbay. The experience was nothing like we had hoped for. No one to meet and greet us upon arrival. We were initially ignored then directed, not shown, to a cracked brown formica table 'set' for us with two paper napkins, knives and forks and two glass tumblers, in a corner, away from the main dining area and the window. Eventually, we were approached by Heidi, whom we assumed to be restaurant manager. We asked to be reseated and a table was cleared for us. We were served a pot of tea for two and awaited our food. An hour later, we were still waiting. During that time we witnessed several disgruntled customers complaining. Although there were three waiters present, we did not receive any service or attention from them. After an hour, Heidi reappeared and was very apologetic. She offered us a complimentary glass of Prosecco. Our booking had been for 3pm. By now it was 4.30. The food arrived and like the tea table, was nothing like we were led to expect. The sandwiches were not as described on the menu. Some of the fillings were spread so thinly that they were difficult to identify. The pastries were missing. The cakes were not the patisserie style fancies shown in the promotional pictures, but more like traybakes cut into different sized chunks and didn't seem particularly fresh. Our teapot was refreshed and we were given new cups and "saucers", which turned out to be side plates. Heidi did try to make us comfortable, but by that time, all hope of enjoying our afternoon was lost. We did ask a waiter for a box to take our cakes away but were told "We don't do boxes" and we're directed to a pile of paper napkins and told to help ourselves. The three saving graces are; At £25, it wasn't the most expensive afternoon tea. I would have paid more for a first class experience. Heidi did her best to keep customers happy, with what appeared to be very little support from her colleagues. Whatever the Imperial are paying her, it's not enough. The one thing that the hotel did deliver on was the magnificent view, but I give the Imperial no credit for that whatsoever. Lastly, I sent an email to the Imperial later that day, and to add insult to injury, now, almost a week later, have had no response. NB. Pictured - what the Imperial's advertising led us to expect. NOT what we got !

This hotel has always been a convenient choice for local business Xmas lunches and dinners. Although there is nothing to critisize about the food , I had a very unpleasant encounter at the front desk today . I just finished one Xmas lunch today and I am due to return for another Xmas party on this Saturday with my dance group , I forgot to book the Xmas set dinner for my husband who is disabled thinking that he might not want to join in. Last minute he said he would like a night out to have a bit of fun and company . So I asked the front desk lady if I could order food from the a la carte menu and he could sit with us and be served the food that he has chosen . I said I would pay for that dish today in advance . She said the food cost £23 but she wants the balance of the money ( the hotel charges for the set Xmas menu £37) to be paid too ! I said what , even without eating the Xmas dinner , and less the starter and dessert ? She said yes of course , because he would have the benefit of listening to the music !!!!! I was absolutely gobsmacked ! Wow , what a mean spirited place ! This is after our group of 40 just had lunch , and there will be another 40 -50 to come on Saturday! They have absolutely couldn’t see how money grabbing this attitude is ..! It of course doesn’t make business sense , as it means they would rather lose another customer’s business and create a horrible bad taste and bad will . The fact that they have loads of business this time of the year make them so mean spirited , complacent and arrogant ! Reverend Lyte who used to live there. He advocated humanity , warmth and community spirit and love . He wouldn’t have approved of this lack of human warmth , common sense and greed culture !
