The best restaurants serving British food in South West

This hotel and restaurant is situated on the same coast as the Nare. It therefore shares the same "subtropical" climate. The gardens reflect this and the hotel is on a gentle cliff with access to the sea and small beach with no signs of civilisation around. It is certainly a beautiful and unique area. Parking is easy and first impressions of the hotel entrance suggest a 1960's house that has been extended on multiple occasions. The staff vary from being pleasant, attentive and slightly nervous to extremely chatty and friendly. The dining room has 2 sections and I felt the area near the entrance had the best ambiance. The views towards the sea are amazing but remember that if you sit on a table next to the vista windows early in the evening by the time it gets dark you will be looking at a vast black area of glass which is unpleasant due to complete absence of outside light. Maybe best to take a table next to the inside wall. There is a fixed price dinner for £70 and this includes warm home made rolls and excellent canapés. The duck parfait was enjoyable and the preserved bream unusual. The main courses were very fish orientated with a non-fish choice of only 1 out of 4 meat eaters may have some difficulty. Monkfish was perfect and the Soufflé memorable. With service, tax and 2 glasses of wine the dinner for 2 came to almost £190 - perhaps a little more than expected but an enjoyable evening.

Fantastic food and service highly recommended served our needs superbly

We stayed for one night while walking the coast path. The Tree Tops room was very comfortable and beautifully maintained. The dinner and buffet style breakfast were plentiful and delicious. Excellent value for money. A little far from the coast after a long days hike but well worth it.

We do not know the city, had just arrived at 8pm and literally walked into this restaurant as it was the first we came across that was not a chain and looked like they really cooked. We had a nice welcome, but the lighting is overhead, spots set into the ceiling, providing a very harsh uncomfortable light. It was like eating in Lidl. Small rechargeable table lights would have grabs this rest. Food was wonderful- especially the trout starter. Unfortunately the waitress with all the good will in the world was not trained and did her best but was just not professional. Sweet yes, but a restaurant of this calibre and price needs professional staff, not sweet staff.

We went for dinner here for my birthday and it was a lovely experience. The staff were attentive and the food was delicious.

We visited for afternoon tea - booked as a gift for our wedding anniversary. Every single piece of the afternoon tea was delicious - and we were so full we had to take some home! Thank you for a lovely experience.

An amazing 7 course meal. Each course, explained by 'William' was perfectly balanced to compliment with each other. I enjoyed the palet cleanser of a blackcurrant sorbet which was served before the perfectly cooked lamb. Overall a lovely experience.

It was my first time going in to Tubsy's the other day with grandparents although they have been before. Very friendly staff welcoming us in and taking our order. I opted for the gourmet chicken burger and fries and was actually asked if I wanted all the trimmings which was a nice touch. Normally the onus is on the customer to make such requests. The others had breakfasts as they have on previous visits. The food was delicious so no complaints there. Although I'm personally not a fan of eating out, I'll certainly be back to Tubsy's at some point in the future.

Amazing food, friendly and knowledgeable staff and really nice atmosphere

Beautiful cafe and modern menu. I plumped for the Rarebit with poached egg with a pot of home made baked beans and a hot choc. Delicious! They make their own produce and the most crusty Sour dough bread. The outside of the building undervalues what’s inside. Well worth a visit. You won’t be disappointed.

We have a group meeting here every Friday morning. Such a lovely bright and airy place, serving great food and drinks

I organised my daughter’s baby shower here and was so pleased with the outcome. There were 28 of us and we were looked after so well by the team! The decor was just how I wanted it to be and the food including vegan and gluten free, varied and very good! MAW is the perfect place to hold a small function and I cannot recommend it enough. Senara never fails to impress the young servers,front of house are friendly and welcoming the young chefs are outstanding,today myself and two friends enjoyed a lovely lunch two of us had beer battered cod the most beautiful white fish and crispy thin batter and one had Celeriac Risotto followed simply the best Sticky Toffee Pudding three very happy diners.

The staff is very friendly, and the breakfasts are delicious. As a coffee lover, I wasn't disappointed; enjoy it on its own or with a delicious piece of cake!

Feel fat AF, but was potentially the best burger I've ever eaten. All hail 'el diablo' 🙌
