It's a pub that serves perfectly decent food. But it's not a "gastro-pub" (whatever that is). You can go in and be sure to get a moderately good meal for a moderate price. Nothing fancy. No pretentions of being anything it isn't. Just a country pub catering for a decent honest local clientele. And that's a worthwhile and valuable service I appreciate.

9 of us and a dog booked in for Sunday dinner as we had come down to visit. We first went here in 2014 it was nice then and lovely this time. The Sunday dinners were huge but sooo nice & the dog 🐶 had hers in a bowl at no extra charge and for a Staffordshire bull terrier she done the only thing ate it all with a smiley face.

Good range of drinks including 3 or 4 ciders. Lots of seating in different rooms and outside under heat lamps. Outside patrons did seem to be constantly being asked to buy things/do surveys by passing people. Perhaps they weren't bothered by this, but I personally wouldn't like it so perhaps sit inside if you feel the same.

This pub states that it is dog friendly but this couldn’t be further from the truth. My partner and I went in to the bar for a drink with our dog. Our dog was very well behaved until one of the locals approached him. He started to bark. He didn’t bark much but everyone in the bar started being nasty to us. Saying really nasty things. We only had a couple of sips of our drinks and we left. We were made to feel really uncomfortable. Bar staff didn’t do anything. I was really upset by this. Horrible, mean place. Don’t go there, especially if you have your four legged friend with you.

Wow, what a difference. Our last visit was disappointing, apparently the pub was about to be taken over by new management, and it was all a bit sad. Reading recent encouraging reviews we booked for Sunday lunch, and what a treat. Now I'm a fussy so-and-so when it comes to a roast dinner, and we were not disappointed. The staff are lovely, the meal was well cooked, piping hot and plenty of it. Exactly as it should be. Would heartily recommend.

Character pub well supported by locals with cosy fire burning in typical old English pub surroundings. We felt very welcome as we looked forward to our Sunday lunch. Apparently they have only been serving Sunday lunch for a few week and for sure they have it right. Tender pink roast beef served with parsnips, carrots, cabbage, roast potatoes and a good sized Yorkshire pudding. A further side dish to share with cauliflower cheese, red cabbage and swede. All very tasty. It’s not a huge pub, a number of folk were disappointed and had to return later with a booking, but well worth it. Surely one of the best Sunday Roasts in Tewkesbury.

Four of us called in for breakfast today. Placed our orders… not one was served correct. Two vegetarian orders came as full English. We asked for flat white coffees.. served lukewarm weak coffee.. I did wonder if the coffee machine was actually working. Very disappointing. The lady did apologise for the confusion in the orders. So sorry but not a good experience.

The staff are exceptional in their efforts to make your stay go well. And I want to note the help… more than help… provided by Steve in changing my friend’s flat bicycle tire. She was having some issues getting it done and he fixed it in minutes. Reception, housekeeping, and waitstaff. Excellent. But especial thanks to Steve.

Not a lot to say yet about interior deco, the garden, accommodation, beer or food. So why 5 stars? Because it has become one of a growing number of 'Community Buy-out' establishment's where locals and other interested parties have 'crowd-funded' to keep it as a pub. Now being gutted, refurbished, redecorated, brought up to modern compliance and safety standards by a host of willing volunteers, all the above short comings will be addressed, to the benifit of the building, the local community and the general pub diaspora. The pubs is an integral part of British culture. It is unique, they are places where people go to talk to each other, to find companionship, to gossip and catch up with news from near and far. The French have their cafés, Americans their bars, the English - and the British Isles in general - their pubs. The British pub is a place with an important social function - a meeting place, somewhere to relax, a fairly egalitarian place where people drink, eat, talk and in more traditional establishments, play games like cards or darts or even billiards. Sociological surveys have shown that the pub is the only place where the English (particularly) willingly begin a conversation with a stranger. To loose such institutions is to loose the character of the nation. Well done to all those who have contributed
