The exceptional hospitality and service team lead by Hannah is one of a kind. It’s also very rare to find a chef with such wealth of knowledge and experience as Charlie. The Hop Pole is back on the map and only going up. Fantastic to have it open again.

This wonderful newly re-opened pub is now run by the most hospitable, genuine friendly couple. I have been taken for both a Saturday night dinner and a Sunday lunch. On both occasions, the service with so genuinely friendly seemingly there for everyone in the full dining room. The food was way beyond expectations provided by Charlie and Hannah is the most amazing hostess. Apparently you don’t have to eat as friends have also been just as welcomed to enjoy drinks too. Why would anyone go elsewhere?

Went to this beautiful newly refurbished pub for Sunday lunch. I had roast beef, my wife had the vegan option and my mother had roast pork with all the trimmings and it was all excellent. Considering the quality of the food it is a very reasonable price. The staff were friendly and attentive and the wait after ordering was not long at all. It is a very popular pub and not very big so if you are going for food make sure you book well in advance. There's a decent selection of beer including good Guinness and an IPA called Hoppy which is lovely.

The resurrection of this closed once favourite village pub, is very welcomed. The spectacular renovation is to a high standard. It’s retained the country pub vibe but with a modern feel. There are separate areas for eating, and the bar area if you just want a drink in front of the fire. Dogs welcome with lots of fabulous country walks on the doorstep. The friendly welcome, excellent food (with the best pie you’ll ever taste) and great service sees the whole experience of having the Hop Pole on your go to list a must! Booking strongly advised.

A huge weight of expectation for our first visit to the Hop Pole for Sunday lunch. A very long and expensive refurb meant that things needed to be very good from the start for this pub to have a chance of success. On entering, the space around the bar feels really generous and welcoming (a huge achievement in a compact listed building. Beers were all great, staff friendly, calm and attentive. We booked for Sunday lunch and could only get a 4pm spot. We expected food to be good but the roast was truly exceptional. Locally sourced beef sirloin was perfectly cooked and tender beyond belief. Portion size of the beef was more restaurant than pub grub (though still ample) but the huge array of vegetables more than covered any shortfall. They were also perfectly cooked and had definitely not been kept warm for hours; the kitchen were still taking huge pains to keep things perfect for us stragglers - a rare thing in any eatery, let alone one that has been opened for so short a time. Starters were good, mains were perfection. Didn’t have desserts as we were walking home though they looked great. Definitely worth a trip. Feel very blessed to be walking distance away and already planning a return visit.

Not a lot to say yet about interior deco, the garden, accommodation, beer or food. So why 5 stars? Because it has become one of a growing number of 'Community Buy-out' establishment's where locals and other interested parties have 'crowd-funded' to keep it as a pub. Now being gutted, refurbished, redecorated, brought up to modern compliance and safety standards by a host of willing volunteers, all the above short comings will be addressed, to the benifit of the building, the local community and the general pub diaspora. The pubs is an integral part of British culture. It is unique, they are places where people go to talk to each other, to find companionship, to gossip and catch up with news from near and far. The French have their cafés, Americans their bars, the English - and the British Isles in general - their pubs. The British pub is a place with an important social function - a meeting place, somewhere to relax, a fairly egalitarian place where people drink, eat, talk and in more traditional establishments, play games like cards or darts or even billiards. Sociological surveys have shown that the pub is the only place where the English (particularly) willingly begin a conversation with a stranger. To loose such institutions is to loose the character of the nation. Well done to all those who have contributed

We had arrived after a short walk from our barge anticipating "amazing pies" as the adverts read. Well, there was only 6 things on the menu, only one pie and no children s menu. The children didn't want lasagna and garlic bread or steak, but there was on option of swapping chips for a jacket potato on the adult meals so we asked if the children could just have a jacket potato, cheese and beans as there was nothing suitable on the menu. We were happy to pay whatever as they were hungry. We were told no and they refused to accommodate us - we were the only customers in the pub at the time so they were hardly rushed off their feet! Rude staff, we left without buying anything.

We booked for sunday lunch and were the only people in the pub! I suppose that was the clue but we were hungry and stayed. The interior is a bit run down and the comments on the electric fire from 1960 I would echo. We ordered the roast lunch and a burger. Roast lunch was lamb shank, roast potatoes and veg. The carrots and green beans were several days old and warmed up - you know how they go wrinkly when overdone and warmed up three times? They were worse than that! The cauli was cooked the same day and fine but the rest was embarrassing. The burger was fine though. There are a lot of good reviews so perhaps we were unlucky, it's an old building but I'm sure more could be done to get a punter to two past the door.

My husband, myself and two friends who only meet up very occasionally, decided to try out the Hop Pole, Limpley Stoke - what a FIND!!! We arrived early for our 8pm booking, but were served by a wonderful young man, for whom nothing was too much trouble. We sat down after ordering our meals, and whilst we waited, we were offered more drinks which was much appreciated. The meals when they arrived were out of this world!!! My husband, and my friend opted for the Steak and Ale Pie with chips. I have never seen a pie the size of a small castle keep, for this is what it resembled. My husband was in raptures - it not only looked good, but tasted fantastic as well. My friend's wife and I ordered the Hunters Chicken ...a huge butterfly chicken breast served with a decent sized piece of bacon, and liberally covered with delicious melted cheese, chips and salad. The portions were enormous - yet the average price per meal was around just £8!!! Even though the meals were huge, we opted for desserts and what followed was nothing short of perfection...huge bowl of chocolate pudding with custard (for hubby) and my friend and I opted for an 'ice cream cheesecake'....OMG I thought I'd died and gone to heaven.....The food is excellent, the service impeccable, and all served in a delightful olde worlde pub which has not lost any of its charm. PERFECT NIGHT OUT!!

Former employee posting: Do not give this company your custom. Employers have refused to pay owed tips and outstanding holiday pay to all staff despite consistent reminders, and are now withholding tips and threatening employees. Tips have not been received by staff since January this year. This was a hard working group of employees who do not deserve to be treated this way. For a pub with expensive pricing the profit is not seen by those doing the hard work.

Came for dinner and were very disappointed by the food. Service was good, not many gluten free options (my partner is celiac) but staff were accommodating. The food however was pretty bleak. Not sure if the chef was having an off day or what, as most reviews seem to be positive. I had the chicken souvlaki which had very little chicken, was greasier than a 3am kebab and absolutely drowning in sauce. My partner had the 1/2 chicken which I can only describe as mummified. It looked and tasted like it had been reheated or sat under a heat lamp drying out for hours. Not what you want for almost 20 quid a main...
