Not a lot to say yet about interior deco, the garden, accommodation, beer or food. So why 5 stars? Because it has become one of a growing number of 'Community Buy-out' establishment's where locals and other interested parties have 'crowd-funded' to keep it as a pub. Now being gutted, refurbished, redecorated, brought up to modern compliance and safety standards by a host of willing volunteers, all the above short comings will be addressed, to the benifit of the building, the local community and the general pub diaspora. The pubs is an integral part of British culture. It is unique, they are places where people go to talk to each other, to find companionship, to gossip and catch up with news from near and far. The French have their cafés, Americans their bars, the English - and the British Isles in general - their pubs.  The British pub is a place with an important social function - a meeting place, somewhere to relax, a fairly egalitarian place where people drink, eat, talk and in more traditional establishments, play games like cards or darts or even billiards. Sociological surveys have shown that the pub is the only place where the English (particularly) willingly begin a conversation with a stranger. To loose such institutions is to loose the character of the nation. Well done to all those who have contributed

We had arrived after a short walk from our barge anticipating "amazing pies" as the adverts read. Well, there was only 6 things on the menu, only one pie and no children s menu. The children didn't want lasagna and garlic bread or steak, but there was on option of swapping chips for a jacket potato on the adult meals so we asked if the children could just have a jacket potato, cheese and beans as there was nothing suitable on the menu. We were happy to pay whatever as they were hungry. We were told no and they refused to accommodate us - we were the only customers in the pub at the time so they were hardly rushed off their feet! Rude staff, we left without buying anything.

We booked for sunday lunch and were the only people in the pub! I suppose that was the clue but we were hungry and stayed. The interior is a bit run down and the comments on the electric fire from 1960 I would echo. We ordered the roast lunch and a burger. Roast lunch was lamb shank, roast potatoes and veg. The carrots and green beans were several days old and warmed up - you know how they go wrinkly when overdone and warmed up three times? They were worse than that! The cauli was cooked the same day and fine but the rest was embarrassing. The burger was fine though. There are a lot of good reviews so perhaps we were unlucky, it's an old building but I'm sure more could be done to get a punter to two past the door.

My husband, myself and two friends who only meet up very occasionally, decided to try out the Hop Pole, Limpley Stoke - what a FIND!!! We arrived early for our 8pm booking, but were served by a wonderful young man, for whom nothing was too much trouble. We sat down after ordering our meals, and whilst we waited, we were offered more drinks which was much appreciated. The meals when they arrived were out of this world!!! My husband, and my friend opted for the Steak and Ale Pie with chips. I have never seen a pie the size of a small castle keep, for this is what it resembled. My husband was in raptures - it not only looked good, but tasted fantastic as well. My friend's wife and I ordered the Hunters Chicken ...a huge butterfly chicken breast served with a decent sized piece of bacon, and liberally covered with delicious melted cheese, chips and salad. The portions were enormous - yet the average price per meal was around just £8!!! Even though the meals were huge, we opted for desserts and what followed was nothing short of perfection...huge bowl of chocolate pudding with custard (for hubby) and my friend and I opted for an 'ice cream cheesecake'....OMG I thought I'd died and gone to heaven.....The food is excellent, the service impeccable, and all served in a delightful olde worlde pub which has not lost any of its charm. PERFECT NIGHT OUT!!

I've driven and walked past the pub a few times, and it's always looked inviting. So when we couldn't park ANYWHERE in Bewdley August bank holiday we decided to visit the hop pole.On arrival we weren't disappointed, great garden and internally very nice. I was quite busy and they could have done with another couple of members of staff, however I and others were happy to wait. We ordered drinks and I noticed on the bar that there was a choice of roast beef or pork Baguettes, however when we ordered them we were told there was no beef left. None of the bar staff removed the sign at that point. Anyway we ordered 1 burger 2 cajan chicken and magic and 1 veggie bean burger. 2 dishes were great and two were avergae. The veggie burger I'm sorry but it wasn't the best and the burger bun for £10.95 was poor, perhaps a brioche bun for the future? However, the Cajun chicken and mango were excellent.....So on that basis I'm looking forward to going back to try something else and then I feel I can truly have a full opinion.

Lovely little place, very picturesque country pub at the bottom of the drive of the Best Western Hotel we were saying at. We went for an evening drink. The pub is very quiet and doesnt seem to get much custom. There is a sign at the bar saying 'NO CHILDREN AT BAR' and a sign in the garden saying 'DONT LET YOUR DOG CR#P ON OUR GRASS' which is fair enough but both, I thought, could be a little bit friendlier in tone - like 'sorry' and 'please' . Unfortunately our evening was cut short when we felt we had no choice but to leave after listening to the owner and his 'other' customer complaining for 20 minutes about foreigners coming to this country and how we should not help the foreigners of recent tragedies because they were not English. There were lots of other comments but you get the gist. To be honest everyone is entitled to their own opinion but it made us feel very uncomfortable, and I don't think it is appropriate to air such strong views in public - especially in a tourist area like this where some people might take offence. It's a shame because the pub seemed ok. We went back to the hotel just in time to watch Mohammed Farrah win gold for Britain!

I have never previously been inspired to write review on trip advisor beforeWe (5 adults)were on the canal returning from Bath, running behind time we decided stop here for a drink (having seen the sign whilst travelling in the other direction) before returning to the boat to eat - thank God we stopped - What a joy to find this "proper" Pub it was an absolute delight. this is what a pub should be like- so many have gone so gastro that you feel uncomfortable having a beer. The pub is a short walk from the canal, even I (with my bad back and "love" of walking)had no difficulty - It is an old pub with loads of unpretentious character - the welcome from the landlord was cordial not too effusive - my friend (a lager boy) was offered a taster of one of the two local ales which he took to and I plumped for the other - it was very well kept and most enjoyable - two others imbibed of the strong rattler cider on offer and my partner partook of the wine which proved more than drinkable! we sat in the very well maintained garden for an hour or so before returning to the cosy bar for yet further replenishment chatting with the landlady locals and other customers. whilst we did not eat the menu was full of good honest pub fayre at very reasonable prices from what I saw the portions were on the generous side.for me this was the best 3 hours of our holiday when I am the area again I will make a b-line to re-visit this wonderful establishment.

When we were planning our trip to the UK for this year we both agreed that there was one place we wanted to go... back to the Hop Pole Inn! Our last visit was three years ago and the experience this time was a little different. The first change is the owners... lovely people who welcomed us warmly. The second was that this time it's summer (we were here in winter last time) and we discovered the outdoor garden area which is really nice. The menu is small but all really good with decent portions and reasonably priced. This little pub is so English with its low beams, dogs lying across the floor, regulars leaning on the bar and a row of beer taps. See you in a couple of years!

We're in the centre of town - but everything was either closed (being Monday) - or just not taking our fancy.....we walked towards our guest house....nothing except a takeaway burger joint was open - which didn't look great - I told the kids: "100m more -if there is nothing - we are turning back!"Phew. There was the Hop Pole.Lovely staff - including publican James. Generous kids meals (mine are both good eaters - we often decide to buy adult mains....but not so here) Staff could have so easily "up sold" our clearly very hungry kids to adult meals - but instead sorted out delicious quality burgers... When he finally brought the food he said, "it did need cooking first" - he clearly hadn't been on the customer service course! The pub itself was extremely run down, with paint peeling off the walls and plenty of cobwebs. The toilets were horrible. It felt like we'd walked into a time warp and back into an 'old man's drinking pub' that was being dragged kicking and screaming into an era where pubs were supposed to serve food, even though they really didn't want to.Won't ever go again, and wouldn't advise anyone else to eat there either.

Nice little pub especially for a group of friends.Staff serving when I was there a little reluctant the first time we went but the second visit was better and we had a great couple of hours. If you are staying in the Limpley Stoke Hotel just up the road, this is a good pub to visit.

Stopped in here for a drink with family and was greeted by friendly staff who were very polite and accommodating. Good selection of Real Ales and ciders so we were all well catered for. Will stop by again if in the area.

A traditional boozer. Nothing overly special, but... They make their own shortcrust pastry pies that are knockout. Great value, too.

Run down, dilapidated. Things that give old pubs like this atmosphere like open fires have been replaced with ugly fake wood burner electric things. Most space given over to restaurant but didn't eat so can't comment on quality. So bar area pretty small.

This is a traditional free house that are getting very rare as it is not a chain. Some comments have been made about the food but as far as I am concerned it is pub food & as such do not expect restaurant quality for the price paid (very reasonable compared to my local pubs). Land Lord very friendly & prices & quality of beer better than the near by hotel where I was staying.

Nice enough room but no one turned up for breakfast. Waited for an hour in empty pub, gave up and left.
