George & Dragon in Wiltshire

Former employee posting: Do not give this company your custom. Employers have refused to pay owed tips and outstanding holiday pay to all staff despite consistent reminders, and are now withholding tips and threatening employees. Tips have not been received by staff since January this year. This was a hard working group of employees who do not deserve to be treated this way. For a pub with expensive pricing the profit is not seen by those doing the hard work.

Lovely lunch for mother in law's birthday. Food enjoyed by all; pork belly, fishcake (chips are extra). Nice pint of Frome bitter too. Surprised it was quite quiet.

Enjoyed our visit. A lovely old pub with excellent service. Went for the burger and a pint, had a fantastic burger, we all went for the traditional but chicken or veggie options available and a nice pint of beer for a very good price. Will certainly try it again.

The pub has been refurbished with great care to a very high standard. The food is really high quality (we absolutely loved the 'jars'). Perfect place to go for dinner and drinks after a long walk in the woods. Keep up the great work.

I have never written a review before but felt compelled after seeing some of the negative ones. Up front - I love this pub and food. Staff are very welcoming and polite. Have dined a number of times over last few months having had a the summer and autumn menu. Each time we have visited with a different set of friends or family. I have never heard anything from anyone other than being highly complimentary. I find the negative comments really odd as I just have not had that experience. This is not a typical pub and far removed from a stack the menu with everything under the sun. It is a small, yet perfectly and carefully selected menu with as many locally source ingredients as possible. The staff have been more than happy to adapt things slightly for peoples dietary requirements. Each time I visit I try something different and have yet to be disappointed. We have popped in after a long country walk for a pint and quick bite and had celebrated birthdays with a slap up meal. Perfect for all. Really lovely, unpretentious place. Decor has been done tastefully too. Really love it. The only issue with blowing the trumpet of such a lovely place is not getting a table when it gets better known.

We had an excellent family meal (the dirty burger was second to none) with a good selection of children's options. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. There is a selection of games to keep everybody entertained. I cannot recommend this beautifully refurbished pub highly enough.

Very rude staff. No vegetarian or vegan option or Sunday dinner - offered mac & cheese with a smirk… and no offer to cook anything else. Snotty atmosphere, overpriced - Wordy, OTT menu.. keep driving past into the next village & head to the three daggers - much better service / menu / staff.

Fantastic hosts, great welcome. Delicious food and an interesting selection of beers and ales on draught. Really comfortable bar area with excellent log burning fires.

Outstanding food that wowed all three generations of diners at our large table. Lovely pub restaurant with an amazing choice of menu. We all ordered differently and we all tasted everything from everyone’s plate - even the kids… Nothing left on anyone’s plate at the end and a few had room only for the beautiful home made ice creams and sorbets. Absolutely worth the ‘post Xmas dinner’ waddle afterwards! Staff were very friendly, efficient and made us all feel very comfortable. Not many pics as most plates were immediately dived on! A lovely find with outside parking. We shall be definitely be back.

Fantastic meal in this beautifully renovated pub. We decided to share 6 different dishes between the four of us - 2 jars and 4 light bites. Everything was delicious and the glasses of wine very generous. Both portions of chips were snaffled by Granny - a connoisseur in all chip matters! The teens particularly liked the Southern fried chicken and ham hock and my favourite was the macaroni cheese. The portions were very generous and very fairly priced - it was great to have such an interesting menu with so much on it that everybody fancied. The hound was welcomed too and it was lovely to walk back after lunch. It is wonderful to finally have such a great pub in the area!

10/10 all round experience. What a find this was for date night. Staff were really welcoming and really accommodating. Beautiful pub courtyard and dining area. Food was delicious and plenty of it. Great value for money with quality, quantity and service provided. We will definitely be back and recommend.

Nice pub all local beers and ales.

A superb meal in a lovely old building that appears to have been rejuvenated under new ownership. Our party of 10 shared a platter of starters and were so full that no one could manage a main course. The Welsh Rarebit was to die for. Great beer and friendly, helpful staff. Loved it

Went for Sunday dinner - brilliant service by all staff, lovely atmosphere and the food was incredible 🤤👌🏽 Would highly recommend 100% and we will definitely be back! Thank you 😊

Looks closed from the road but open and empty , wonder why?

The girlfriend and I had a meal here 2 weeks ago. She had Mac'n'Cheese to start and I had the Rarebit followed by 2 burgers for main. It was most definitely one of the best quality meals we've had out in a long time and we'll be going back with friends next time. Great staff and a Top-class Chef. Also some of the best Ale's on tap in any pub in Wiltshire. 5 Stars well deserved.

Stopped in for lunch with family, all staff were welcoming and very friendly. Food was great and for the quality, very good value for money. Lovely pub, great people, and will be returning!!!

Really great to see this lovely old Tudor pub restored to such a high standard. The Bar area is cosy, with a light airy restaurant. I will definitely visit during the summer months and sit in the beautiful terraced garden with one of their great choices of Gins ;). The food being served is delicious. Went for the burger but going to come back and try some of the fine dining on offer at the George & Dragon, tried a few nibbles the chef sent round. Friendly atmosphere, this pub has certainly been added as a new favourite place!

Bit expensive to be honest drink prices inflated, but food prices are next level I'm sure the roux brothers charge about the same

What a lovely experience - I went with my 2 young children and we enjoyed a delicious burger and chips and for me a jar of the duck rilletes with honey and orange marmalade from the bar menu. We sat in a cosy corner of the lounge by the fire. The staff were very friendly and attentive. The pub looks fantastic and we will definitely be back, maybe after a dog walk round the local woods! Must add that the curry dip that comes with the chips and dirty burger is fabulous and to have all for £14 is great value. Thanks G&D - A hidden gem!

What a fantastic Saturday lunch! Having decided to try the bar menu, I was overjoyed with the whole experience. I had the G&D Burger which was the perfect size and tasted phenomenal. With this I thoroughly enjoyed some triple cooked chips - crunchy on the outside while soft and fluffy inside. These came with curry mayonnaise and I can’t rave enough about it; super smooth and perfectly balanced. The word sublime doesn’t do the food justice. The service was impeccable. We were welcomed with smiling faces and nothing was to much trouble. The atmosphere is warm, cosy, relaxed with beautiful fireplaces which didn’t cause one to feel stifled in heat. The music wasn’t to loud and it assisted in creating a perfect ambience. It goes without saying - I’m looking forward to coming back.

Very good food - a small but perfectly formed menu with creative and interesting dishes. Charming and welcoming staff. Beautifully decorated and furnished pub and dining room. Not cheap, but the quality is very high and you get what you pay for. We wish them luck for the future and will surely return.

Really looking forward to this pub opening.... all I can say is 'what a shame' Really unfriendly, very expensive and we did go there to eat but was told the 'London' chief was complaining about local produce. We went somewhere else

Birthday celebrations last night at our newly opened local pub. So happy that this has been reopened and thank you to the new proprietor for breathing life back into this village and building! The food is amazing and so nice to have this cuisine on our doorstep. I can’t recommend this pub/restaurant enough, we had a lovely evening and enjoyed the food immensely!

Incredible food and lovely staff. A few first-week nerves but a wonderful experience overall. Can't wait to come back and see how good it is once the team have bedded in a bit!

Very expensive, £25 Sunday roast and that's not including a starter or main. Beef was nice, veg a bit over sweet, served with a salty jus not gravy... hopefully they'll come up with a more sensible choice and prices soon.

Not quite sure what the owner is doing. A wanna-be fine dining pub in the middle of nowhere with a rather limited menu with little or no local produce. The prices are also pretty high....no wonder it seems to be empty each night despite just opening!

A good reputation for fish, lobster etc. Despite this the battered fish was disappointing as the batter was not crisp and the fish had not been skinned

No hay nada que indique que en línea pero después de haber intentado teléfono y conseguir ninguna respuesta, fuimos allí como representante de donde estábamos alojados. No había cerrado señal, pero todo estaba cerrado y una para la venta cartel en la pared de al lado.

Acabamos de pasar una semana en una cabaña en Erlestoke y tuvo la suerte de tener este pub como nuestro representante. El interior es precioso y muy acogedor. El propietario y la señora nos realmente encantador y nos hizo sentir muy bien acogidos y nada era demasiado para ellos. Tuvimos dos comidas allí y muchas bebidas! El menú era genial y todas las comidas eran coked fresco y delicioso. Nuestra primera visita nos trajeron de galletas para perros y nos hicimos amigos con nuestro perro y conversamos. La segunda vez que comimos allí nos preguntó acerca de comidas para niños y estaban dispuestos a cocinar algo querían o del menú o en tamaño pequeño. Realmente desearíamos el pub fue nuestro local! Lo recomiendo encarecidamente y me encantaría volver.

Nos alojamos en el George y Dragon (ver la crítica del hotel) para un fin de semana y nos lo pasamos de maravilla. La comida era excelente y un poco diferente a la normal de pub grub. la primera noche mi amigo seleccionado patatas fritas. Las patatas estaban gruesas y algo pesada, crujientes por fuera y suaves en el interior. inusualmente mi amiga no podía conseguir en todo momento como el plato estaba lleno antes de la llegada de col roja y brócoli. ya que tenía un poco de neuralgia elegí bistec y pastel de hongos con nuevas patatas salteados. Una vez más, la comida estaba impecable y el servicio rápido y amable. No probamos el domingo asado pero después de los comentarios que escuchamos el domingo que también me parece excelente.

One of the best Sunday lunches that I have had. We visited as a family group of 12, every one commented on how good the service and food was.
