We were actually staying in the Summer House which belongs to Juliet's Garden so it just made sense to try the restaurant and we were so glad we did. The staff were all so friendly and made a right fuss of our Cocker Spaniel. We had drinks on the terrace before our meal and then were showed to our table. The food surpassed what we expected, it was excellent, and my wife being a vegetarian it made a nice change for her to have a choice different to the normal, no vegetable lasagna on this menu. The staff were polite friendly and very efficient. we loved our first meal we booked to go back later in the week, and that meal too was excellent. It is a shame they were only doing evening meals three times a week, but we understood there was staffing issues. We would definitely recommend an evening visit, it is only a short walk out of Hugh Town.

We have stayed at St Mary's Hall many times on full board so we have used the Hall restaurant on many occasions and have always thought the food exceptional. This year we opted to self cater on then Island allowing us more evening freedom, but we wanted to book an evening meal for our wedding anniversary. We had a table in the Grill Room to allow us to bring our Cocker Spaniel with us. The Hall is obviously very proud of the steaks that it offers it's guests as there are pictures all around the restaurant, I would normally have had fillet steak , but as this was not available, I opted for a sirloin which they recommended medium rare, to say I was disappointed was an understatement, my steak was very tough and chewy and full of gristle, I just could not eat most of it. I did complain to the waitress and received £10 of the final bill. But for £49 for just the steak you expect it to be perfect, don't you? That said my wife who is a vegetarian, thoroughly enjoyed her meal. I am sure this was just an unfortunate experience and it will not deter us from ever using The Hall again.

Not normally one for reviews but the reviewer who shared the term Basil Fawlty was bang on. Have a read of the reviews 3 and less and also the responder's inability ever to take on-board feedback without some sarcastic remark or, you should of told us and got into the inevitable difficult exchange where the customer is made uncomfortable. Sometimes it is better to just pay, go, and never return. As Jeff Bezos says “ your brand is what customers say about you when you are not in the room” Instead making the customer feel uncomfortable or need to raise, the food and experience need to be right in the first place is my advice. Our experience was that the service was ok, the server was polite. However, the food was a mixed bag. Four of us had the burgers, OMG, I have never seen or experienced anything like it. It looked anaemic, burger looked like it was out of a birdseye pack and had been boiled or microwaved, whatever it was it was weird. I opted for cheese topping which consisted of just a single slice of processed cheese slapped on for which a charge (1.75 I think for a slice of processed cheese), not even a token amount of lettuce to decorate the plate, or even in the burger. Just a small portion of sweaty /soggy chips. I was stunned when I saw if arrive. I thought it was just me so did not say anything then, when we came out others in the party who had the same said "what the hell was that food". It was not cheap either. I wish I took a photo of it as it would have shown better. I can only describe the look at something you made at home when starting to cook as a child. Further, what I found weird was for someone running a hospitality business the person appeared to find customers irritating no matter what, his comments, and attitude were off and we had not even upset him, hence the Basil Ref, I get it. I could go on but I will suffice to say; Clearly, some people like the place, and maybe we were just unlucky. Alternatively, on St Martins the Six Bell's is friendly, Quirky and the food is significantly better value. I loved Fraggle owner's comments ref they were one of the only places serving brown crab which basically means serving all of the crab, nothing special just rinsing the most out of the crab but dressing it up as if it is. LOL. If you want crab/ shellfish then the cafe on Bryer is fantastic and value for money. Sorry sir I appreciate that you will want to be in denial and throw stones back so be it if it helps you, but it is honest feedback on our experience. Maybe if you took some of the less flattering feedback on board as well as only the good then you would delight more of your customers. That or embrace the Basil Fawlty experience and people could flock to the establishment for the experience.

Love this place! Restaurant has one of the best views on the island. The menu is amazing. Staff are attentive and polite. Thank you to Eleanor, Kim & Ryan for taking care of us on our visit, it's much appreciated. The front of the pub is traditional and the locals are friendly and welcoming. We'll be back!

Food was tasty but the seafood/fish portions were tiny for the price paid. £13 for a tri-scallops appetiser with each scallop no bigger than a 10-pence piece. Shouldn’t these scallops be left in the sea a while longer? The Thai monkfish main course was also tasty but at £25 was tiny. I understand that I will be paying a premium for the stunning Isles of Scilly location but expected more from a high-quality restaurant that is supposed to be showcasing the best in local seafood. I politely gave this feedback to my waiter but no attempt was made by the hotel management team to discuss this feedback before the bill arrived.
