Maybe this is a good thing, as after reading the reviews we have escaped an unnecessary stressful evening when all else on the beautiful isles is calm 😀

Excellent meal as always. We visit each year. Good size portions. Had the beach burger, gorgious! Staff friendly and helpful. We were under charged, so we pointed out the mistake and they thanked us. Stunning setting. Relaxed environment right on the beach. Kids didn't get bored waiting as they could play on the beach while adults could socialise. Kids were happy with their meal. Sensabl price. Definitely worth a visit if you want tasty decent relaxed meal. (Even MIL didn't complain)!

In common with several other reviews on this establishment, my online booking was cancelled by the restaurant a couple of months ago. I received an email confirming my booking cancellation through a 3rd party platform but received no contact from the restaurant itself. I subsequently learnt through Facebook that they had adopted a ‘walk in only’ policy. So, if you want to try the Beach you get ready and you gamble that there might be s space. You can’t make a plan b because it would be unfair to book somewhere else as a back up. It’s therefore not a surprise that the menu is stripped to a few burgers, nor that tomorrow is their last night of 2023. Don’t treat potential customers with such disdain. If you are worried about ‘no shows’ then take a booking deposit.

Amazing service, fitted us in to their schedule although extremely busy, honest service, great food and great music! An amazing place to eat with anyone and beautiful views!

Cannot fault the food or service, as this was my last night on the island I decided to have a treat and pre-ordered the half lobster and fries for take away. The ordering process was seamless and efficient. I arrived a few minutes early and it was ready exactly at my selected pick up time. Staff were friendly and professional throughout. I shall be ordering from here again next time I am on the island that is for sure.

Great atmosphere, fantastic location and awesome food.

The food is ok, we had a takeaway from here as seating is limited. It was ok, but nothing special. It does have a great location and lovely view.

The burgers are very good but £18 is a bit much and if you want chips that’s an extra £5. Very good food however.

They need to keep tables clear and clean and pick up all rubbish from floor

A nice little beach bar in itself. The ambience is stylish and fits the setting. The food is delicious and with a view of the Celtic Sea, the seafood tastes even better. Only the service doesn't seem to be in the mood...

We discovered this place by accident while out exploring on a hot day. We had drinks and food out on that balcony. The staff were very pleasant and the foot was top notch without being expensive. Thank you ..

No longer serving food for the foreseeable future. Probably should update their website to tell people that to avoid the disappointment after you have walked there !!

Amazing food, and a short walk from harbour, we had the half lobsters which was cooked to perfection

This is essentially a pub with food and quirky seating not necessarily designed for eating. Take a seat and a waiter will take your order and if it is not too busy you will not wait too long. Food is well cooked and presented. Seems to be less busy after 9pm.

Sat for nearly 20 minutes waiting to be served but were virtually ignored by the barman . When we asked for drinks he said he’d be with us in a minute it 10 minutes later we left as still no sign even tho there were only 4 other customers there . Won’t be rerun

An unexpected gem! Local beers made across the road, and loaded fries with calamari - delish! Really good value 👍🏻

Visited today for lunch. Probably the best sandwiches we've ever had - beef with salad and coronation chicken with salad. 😋

Just opened after refurbishment. Menu limited to mostly burgers. Order only on QR code but Internet connection kept failing. So after 30 mins eventually placed order. Food was not great, lots of fries if you like that sort of thing. Staff were pleasant and friendly. I was very disappointed. Last year's visit was excellent and such a shame they have changed the style of service and the menu.

Seemingly closed on a Bank Holiday, marked as 'open' with Google. Food sounds good, but that's the closest we got

Lovely setting right by the seafront...Good place for drinks only Good wine Mediocre Salad with no dressing....when I asked the waitress for dressing she asked me to clarify what I had in mind .....well not Hellmans Mayo ....I needed a nice oil based flavourful dressing for my grains and greens Chips were nice but vege burger yucky sloppy and tasteless Grand daughter liked the kids pasta ...and glass of tap water The staff looked tired and not bothered except for a smiley male waiter. I went to the food shop and bought breadsticks and dips... much nicer.....I doubt if the staff would even bother reading this as they look worn out ...such a fab setting with poor quality offerings

Fantastic. Lovely welcome from the 2 ladies on that evening. Service was quick but very relaxed. The hake fish and chips with homemade tartar sauce was delicious. Washed down with a very scrumptious rose. Desert of lemon cheesecake went down very well too. Lovely evening meal , just what we needed after only landing at 5.40pm. Great start to our week on the breath takingly beautiful Isles of Scilly . Thank you ❤

Great burgers and kids menu; amazing location

A place to go back every year and you feel very happy to try a new flavour. This time,it was the amazing charcoal grilled lobster 🦞 with garlic & butter, wonderful fish taco with avocado & mango, salt & pepper squid and yummy desserts! Warm Belgian waffle with caramelised banana, cream, butterscotch sauce & chocolate straw. Warm chocolate orange pudding with ice cream. Lovely staff, wonderful Chef 👩‍🍳

We ate here as a family and were all impressed with the food. We have varying requirements, one of us is vegetarian. I ate the lobster, a first for me, it was delicious! The food was tasty and carefully presented and the chocolate orange pudding appeared homemade - hurrah! The staff were all delightful. Big shout out to the very friendly and helpful Milly and the other young woman who helped us when we first arrived. Make sure you book well in advance and it is worth paying the extra for the decent quality that is offered.

Woeful service! The owners need to take stock, superb food in the most beautiful of settings let down by inexperienced, uneducated and at times rude staff. Not a cheap restaurant, was asked to keep our cutlery from first course to mains so other diners had cutlery (basically couldn’t be bothered to get us more), had to search ourselves for cutlery, condiments etc, and chase (more than once) our meal. 2 of the 3 meals arrived, the third some time later (awkward eating whilst one of us sat hungry). The table was unclean, previous guests tissues and waste on the table and decking. It would take very little to make this place magical, unfortunately the customer facing staff are incapable, unwilling to offer this. We returned later in the week just for drinks, this itself seemed a problem, was charged the price of a bottle for 2 glasses of wine and when asking for the receipt was not given a itemised till receipt just the card machine copy! Whilst sat enjoying our “half bottle of wine” 2 additional sets of customers complained about service, with no apology or explaination for the near hour long wait for food, but just told the bill will be reduced!! Why toss money away by discounting food? Employ the right calibre of staff, or at least train the staff to offer the “experience” the price would dictate! Many alternatives offer a far better experience for similar / less money…. On The Quay, The Hall Hotel etc!

Amazing service and food. Had the whole lobster with chips to share. Absolutely delicious. Bottle of sauvignon blanc and a white Russian and mojito finished the night off. Lovely sun set over the beach gave some lovely views during our meal. Highly recommended. Make sure you book!

I had amazing locally sourced grilled half lobster. It was fresh & delicious + location with sea views. I recommend booking table before to avoid waiting. Really recommend!!

If your here on a day trip and the ferry is departing at 4pm, I would suggest giving this place a miss! Horrendously slow service, got the order wrong. Food was ok, but need to improve on the service and accuracy of orders.

We visited the Beach 3 times during our stay- twice for Dinner and once for lunch. The food was delicious on every occasion and the service first class. The Bouillabaisse is unbelievably good with loads of large pieces of fish, lobster, mussels, scallops, etc. The wraps at lunchtime are delicious and very filling. The crawfish and crab passaradelle was stunning. Thank you for some memorable moments.

We had the Lebanese wraps. My wife had the chicken and I had the steak. Both were super. Good quantity and good quality food. Definitely recommend.

A great view. The food is good, but not outstanding. However, the management of the restaurant is special, which is why we will not visit it again.

Food was very good, the lobster bouillabaisse was absolutely fantastic. Chefs are clearly very talented. Only downsides were with service, the front of house staff weren't very interested. Seemed like the guests were just a chore. Also, the seating is very, very tight. Uncomfortably, both physically and socially, so.

Pretty location and nice staff, but in my opinion the food was not worth the cost. Went for the surf & turf burger to have the best of both worlds, but the amount of food I received was not worth £34, but maybe I just ordered the wrong thing. Overall I've had much better meals in other venues whilst visiting the Scillies.

I thought £18 for what was essentially fish and chips a bit steep. Bit this was Cornish hake and it was excellent, presented in a zingy batter, with perfect chips, and with tasty sauce. Good dessert of Belgian caramel waffle. Excellent wine! Fantastic service. Absolutely no complaints whatsoever.

Cracking evening meal here. My partner had the veggie burger and I had the chilli on the specials. Great pitcher of pina colada too. Definitely recommend

Only had a bowl of ice cream here. It was well presented and very pleasant surroundings.

Excellent place to stay close to other places there are also things such as a garage, maccy d"s a beefeater in walking distance even for disabled it is good. Xxx

I was disappointed with my experience. you see i have never gone to this "beach" but i was chilling in my bath tub cleaning my foreskin when a female in life guard attire broke in and kept telling me that i needed a life guard. I told her this isnt a beach this is a bath tub. Just vent /srs

Outstanding lobster burger! The Beach deserve its fame, the quality of the food is really good and the location is really lovely. However, if you are looking for a sit down experience you will need to book plenty in advance. Luckily they offer quite an efficient takeaway service, although in August even for the takeaway service an advance booking was required, I would recommend at least the day before if you want to have a bit of flexibility in choosing your time slot.

We had a table booked here and were excited about it, turned up for our booking to discover the restaurant was closed, spoke to a younger female member of staff by the kitchen door and she explained that bookings had been cancelled, when we were shocked and said we hadn't known she very condescendingly responded "well all bookings were gone through and called or had been left a voicemail", no apology and almost to suggest we were lying, why would we walk there if we knew that already?

Great views from the outside seating and a wide selection of drinks to enjoy here, too.

Beware their booking system. If it says your time is not available and offers another time and says your booking will now "take place at X time" you have to re-enter all your details AGAIN. Went their looking FWD to lunch and then had to walk all the way back and find somewhere else. They didn't seem to care that much that system was really confusing.

It's a beach,bar,cafe - restaurant. We had mussels first and loaded rib fries to share. Perfect. Staff were friendly , polite and helpful. Would we visit again YES X

We last ate here in 2012 and enjoyed the experience and this visit confirmed it is still great food at very competitive prices. Whilst you really need to love burgers the fries and toppings option was suitable as a meal in itself. The location is great and we will certainly be returning.

Food was delicious even though the menu was restricted we chose a burger and it was delicious. It's a fabulous spot to have a restaurant. The staff were lovely and friendly and it was a lovely meal and enjoyable evening.

Brilliant location with fantastic views. Accommodated us as a last minute walk in. Very friendly staff. Really fantastic crab linguine and an excellent cocktail list. Will definitely be going back.

On a day trip to St May’s for my birthday we prebooked here, hoping for seafood on the terrace. I’m so glad we did. Absolutely perfect experience. It’s such a perfect location (we got lucky with the weather and that helped), it’s almost as though it has its own private beach. The menu is small, but that’s reflected in the quality of the food. I had the seafood pasta and it was hands down, in my top 5 meals ever (and I eat out a lot). Fantastic quality of seafood, generous portion. My wife had the lobster roll. Both truly outstanding. The view is beautiful and we could have sat there all afternoon.Very laid back and friendly atmosphere created by all staff. I hope we return to the island and if we do, definitely prebooking again to make sure we can eat here again.

Staff were very friendly and polite. Not much choice in terms of food it's either a burger or lobster which was a tad disappointing as I saw BBQ and thought there would be more variety of choices. Maybe this was due to covid? Again not much options in terms of dessert so we didn't bother to have one. Food tasted good and good selection of drinks available

f you intend to go I advise that you book as they were turning people away. We chose lobster and it was lovely - this came with chips but you didn't get very many! We followed this with banana pancakes which we shared - very good. Service was very good and all together a nice experience.

was really looking forward to this but was so disappointed. our chips were very very firm and not pleasant and the burger was under cooked and husband was ill the next day. another burger was burnt. for such a restircted menu its difficult to get it this wrong!

What a lovely place - we were early and a bit stressed and still on a long call to the AA (we had burst a tyre the day before and were STILL sorting it out 24 hours later) - staff found us a table outside, didn't make us wait even though we were half an hour early, and were absolutely charming and sympathetic to our (pathetic) woes. The food is GREAT - lovely simple fresh menu - I had the most reasonably priced whole lobster ever. The view is gorgeous. I used to work in Tanzania, and go to Zanzibar a lot, and it really reminded me...

Probably the best burger I've ever eaten!

I was so looking forward to our special meal at The Beach but was disappointed!I had lobster. I asked if it was possible to have a side salad. What was brought was iceberg lettuce and tomato - I asked for dressing which came in a plastic dish. £5 was put on the bill! My husbands seafood tagliatelle was Ok - pasta was slightly undercooked. A couple sat at the next table and were offered a special! I spoke to the manager about the above she apologised and took off the price of the salad. Great setting but service and food mediocre.

Limited menu of Burgers from £12, fries and chips all at least £3 extra... surprising lack of fish or seafood on the menu except Lobster and a 'Monkfish evening special' .Really need some better healthy food options with salad or Veg too.Staff were OK, but the meal did not feel special in any way.Wouldn't go again, sorry.

My friend and I had a delicious eve meal here. Very good looking trendy restaurant. I had to book about 3 months in advance as everything is getting booked up . Seems to be the same everywhere. The staff were fabulous, friendly and efficient. The view over Porthmellon beach is just gorgeous. There is some outdoor seating too on a lovely deck. The food is superb. We had Lobster Rolls and some chunky chips loaded with short rib beef and delicious sauces. Couple bottles of Corona. I was a happy girl.

Best seafood so far!!! The lobster was AMAZING. Everything was so fresh and fast and service is TOP. Had local beer and enjoyed the views from our table fronting the sea. Definitely must try. Won’t disappoint!

We enjoyed 2 delicious burgers (one beef and one the Chickpea vege special of the day) and 2 bowls of double cooked chips. I have only word for both the food and service = EXCELLENT!!Oh and because late evening was the only available slot, we also got to see a wonderful sunset!

The staff are friendly, the view is amazing and the food is fabulous there is nothing not to like about this place. We very much enjoyed celebrating our 32nd wedding anniversary here, the lobster was really tasty and the messy chips just great.

This restaurant is slightly away from Hugh Town in a really nice beach location. We were given the option and chose to have a table in the small outside area, which is protected from the wind, with overhead heating and cute lights. Equally there is an interesting interior with a Scilly/nautical theme. Service was excellent. Worth noting that the menu is fairly small (burgers, chips, lobster), and that some of the higher priced chips are very large portions and almost a whole meal in themselves.

The name "The Beach" suggested more in the way of seafood, however, they mainly had burgers. I had monkfish made into scampi (very little monkfish) and there was lobster, but it really was a burger restaurant.

Great view, lovely setting, nice atmosphere and the food was delicious! Well worth a visit, we’ll be coming again!

Lovely food, great service and amazing views

Excellent food in a beautiful environment. We were lucky enough to sit alongside the beach for our first visit, where we ate the best lobster we've ever had, as well as excellent seafood pasta. We sat inside for our second visit, which was equally enjoyable, and another excellent meal. Couldn't recommend highly enough, and worth checking back for booking a table as we managed to get our second booking only a few days before, having checked a couple of times.

Amazing Lobster abs the Rum Pancakes was unbelievable. We come back every year and missed it last year. So pleased they have managed to survive.

Fabulous restaurant with great views across the bay. We were lucky to get a lunchtime table outside without booking ahead. Easily the best seafood pasta I have ever had and my husband loved his lobster roll. The cocktails to go alongside were divine. Would happily return!

Had a family meal there and it had a great atmosphere and top food/drink. The beach out the front was great for our daughter to burn off some energy post/premeal too!

This is a great burger bar with a most wonderful view. You will only need to share the chips - especially the haloumi ones. Lovely welcoming staff Book early.

Amazing food, fabulous staff overlooking the beach....just lovely!

We'd been really looking forward to eating here and had booked weeks in advance. But when the burgers arrived about 60 seconds after we ordered, we should have known something was amiss. It was immediately obvious that the burgers were frozen processed meat and they were lukewarm. The meat tasted of absolutely nothing, not even any kind of seasoning and the texture was plasticky. If it didn't cost £13 per burger I wouldn't have minded so much, but that doesn't include the chips, so for £17 you'd expect really tasty home made food. Such a shame as the rosemary chips were delicious and the views were gorgeous. We we debating whether to say anything to the waiter, but he never even asked us how our meal was, so we just paid and got out. Real disappointment, but looking at previous reviews it seems like the restaurant is going through a difficult period as it seems like other diners have had good experiences.

I booked this restaurant months ago when it was still expected to be freedom day on 19th. I never got an email telling me it was a reduced menu. We turned up yo discover that the only offerings were lobster or burgers. 2 of our party are allergic to seafood and 1 was a vegetarian. There was one vegetarian burger on the menu which they had run out of. 2 of us ordered burgers that were so dry and like cardboard that we couldn't eat them. We sent 3 meals back uneaten which they didn't charge for. The service was excellent and the staff were lovely but the limited food was mostly inedible and one of our party had only chips. Such a shame.
