Love this place! Restaurant has one of the best views on the island. The menu is amazing. Staff are attentive and polite. Thank you to Eleanor, Kim & Ryan for taking care of us on our visit, it's much appreciated. The front of the pub is traditional and the locals are friendly and welcoming. We'll be back!

We had a wonderful visit recently. This is a pub we often frequent when visiting St Mary's. On our last visit we had an amazing Sunday Roast which was unfortunately interrupted by an extremely rude 'lady', and I use that term lightly, who was shouting at the (young) bar staff and then proceeded to try and throttle her partner. Just what you want on a beautiful Sunday in Scillies! From what we could hear (they probably heard her in Penzance to be fair), the staff were encouraging the 'lady' to have some water before she had another alcoholic drink. Clearly the right decision by the staff as the she then made an absolute show of herself in front of the whole pub. Shameful behaviour from someone clearly old enough to know better. Perhaps stay off shorts and indulge in the odd shandy? Well done to all the staff involved for handling the situation with more professionalism that I personally would have mustered... Great pub, can't wait to return.

Brilliant pub with really friendly staff. Dan and his team go out of their way to make you feel very welcome. Good beer, good cider, a great choice of wines and exceptional food make for a really good evening at The Mermaid. And if you pick the right evening there's live music or a DJ. We had beautifully cooked scallops followed by pork belly with the crispiest crackling and the most sublime seared tuna in a soy ginger sauce. Truly enjoyable. Thank you Dan and team.

A buzzing pub with a good selection of well kept beers. Friendly staff and quick service. Varied menu of tasty and well prepared food, often necessary to book ahead as it gets very busy. Not an accessible pub as there are steps everywhere and the toilets are in the basement. Great atmosphere.

Felt like a local at this lovey place. We had tons of drinks and food and left happy with our choice. The staff were super helpful too.

Brilliant Sunday afternoon here enjoying a few leisurely drinks and a Sunday lunch. The service was friendly and the food was superb. We ate around 5:30pm - I was a tad concerned in case the roast stuff had been kept warm all day but it was fresh, hot and delicious. Would come back here in a heartbeat for a roast!

I have always found the Mermaid to be an excellent pub which seems to combine the role of a locals pub with catering for visitors as well as being an excellent restaurant as well. Most recently went for dinner on a Sunday evening as a group of nine. The food took a bit of time to come out but they were busy and none of us had pre ordered so that wasn't really a surprise. When it came everyone was happy with their meals and I particularly enjoyed ordering from their new seafood menu - the lobster was excellent. The service was polite and as one would hope it would be. We will be back.

An absolute gem of a pub. Great selection of beers available and the food is incredible. Called in for lunch yesterday and we were very glad that we did! Enjoyed a fabulous lunch of dressed crab (for my wife) and a whole lobster for myself. One of the nicest meals I have ever had. Great service too and very friendly and welcoming staff. Highly recommended indeed.

We called in for a drink in the main bar and decided to book a table in the restaurant for a meal. The main bar does seem a bit run down. The restaurant area is superb with views over the quay. I had a burger and my partner had the crab. Our food was delicious, big portions and the service was above and beyond. 20 minutes after my partner paid the bill (without checking it doh) he received a phone call saying we had been overcharged. We called back in and a refund of the overcharge was done. Great service and honesty. I would certainly recommend this restaurant.

Very disappointed in the Mermaid ! I feel St Austell Brewery should do something about the place as it is in such a prime position ! We went for dinner one night last week never again ! Such a waste of money awful food and a horrible imitation blue rose on every table! ! I had burnt Lasange as shown in the photo ! How could they serve this !

It's a great place to have dinner. Very good service and nyammi food! We recommendet it to people we met, and they also enjoyed the food very much. Out of 4 Scilly evenings we had dinner there 3 times. Especially the Seafood was great.

Good atmosphere, friendly staff, pleasant beer. The fish & chips were great but the fish pie was a bit iffy, hence only 4 stars.

Food was awful. Burger bun came out stale twice after sending it back. portions were small for the crazy price. Drinks were good though!

Limited Sunday menu expensive wine list and rude service. Called us overweight so we walked out.

We ate twice at the Mermaid in our week on St Mary’s. We had fish and chips one night and a roast dinner the second. The food was excellent, particularly the roast dinner. Great service too

Had a belly busting Sunday Lunch on the recommendation of Dan the Man..ager; well he would wouldn't he!? True to his word, it was the best Sunday Lunch we had during our stay, nay the best meal we had during our 2 week holiday. Dan was the host with the most and, as we ate relatively late, he was generous enough to prepare a mini menu (Sunday Lunch) for our 2 pooches too..and they woofed it down. Great welcome, delicious food and superb service. We would highly recommend the Mermaid and will definitely be back so will Dudley and Noodle..Thanks Dan and Co for a memorable experience.

What a proper pub should be like. Very much geared to the locals but still a great welcome for visitors. Very chatty barmaids & full of memorabilia. Good beer and the food looked good value. We loved it.

Great place we ate in the bar. Couldn't fault anything the staff were very helpful. See you next time we visit.

This is a small very friendly pub. They serve food. No wheelchair access and toilets down stairs. The atmosphere is very good and I can highly recommend it. The barman was brilliant. Oh there's a pool table there 😊😊

Always a warm welcome, a lovely friendly atmosphere and a lovely pint! Love this place. Its a must when visiting St Mary's.

We booked a table for 9 of us and they were very accommodating. Lovely restaurant, excellent and attentive service. The food was absolutely amazing. We will definitely be returning. Highly recommend.

What an experience! Not a bad word to say. The customer service was impeccable, the food was exquisite and the location is unmatched, I would highly recommend! No where else like it.

Disappointing, I know they can't always guarantee food on menu due to location, but when we did complain we were just talked to death by waitress, didn't go back, shame

Had dinner here tonight, can’t fault it, warm welcome, excellent service and the food was fabulous. I wish folk would realise that on an island like St Mary’s establishments rely on deliveries and pubs/cafes do run out of stuff. Nothing to complain about from us.

Bar staff friendly. My friend and I had a crab sandwich, advertised on board outside as ‘white crab meat’ sandwich. It’s was mostly brown meat, sparse amount of white meat, thinly spread served on cheap supermarket pre-sliced bread. VERY DISAPPOINTING for £16!! My daughter had fish and chips which was over cooked, rock hard batter with a dried up piece of fish inside. Wouldn’t go back.

Dined there recently, in the upstairs restaurant. Whilst the food was good, although not plentiful, the service was painfully slow. Waiting for over an hour for your main meal to arrive, is unacceptable and shows either a lack of customer service, kitchen staff or both.

Excellent Pub and Restaurant. The Pub is full of History of the Isles of scilly. ExceptClean. All staff wonderful.

Our go-to place to eat. Amazing food!!

Went in for lunch but the bar was grotty and taken over by a very loud foul mouthed man who was egged on by the publican and the bar staff. We finished our drink quickly and left without ordering lunch

This is the only proper pub on st Mary’s , but 18 pounds for two medium glasses of house red wine are you sure !!! . Great Sunday lunch but come on we will go elsewhere at this price

We have had the pleasure to eat at the Mermaid a few times over our long weekend away at the Scilly's. The staff have always welcomed us warmly on arrival and remained attentive throughout each visit. The food is good value pub grub with some intriguing specials which just HAD to be sampled. My particular favourite dish was the roast option available on Sundays. We opted for the mixed roast platter which came with a very hearty portion of both Beef and Pork. The meat was perfect and it all came with a lovely selection of seasonal veg. My only regret on my visit was choosing to only have one scallop to start as opposed to three! The scallop came in half of its shell with a very generous amount of garlic butter. A cheeky bit of bread to soak up the butter and I was in heaven. I must admit though that the star of the show is Steve, the pub dog!! An absolute cutie. I would like to relay my thanks to Dan, Bailey and all of the team for an incredible, affordable dining experience.

Ate here nearly everyday for either lunch or tea and the food was always 10/10 and the staff were brilliant, great atmosphere.

Come here a lot in the last week food was amazing thanks to jim and chloe, the pub had great atmosphere all the staff were great the manager dan was reallly helpful and very friendly

We have just returned from our 3rd visit to IOS this year and we have been visiting the mermaid for years however this year it has been disappointing to say the least. Not only has the food gone downhill but the manager is rude ,arrogant ,using racial slurs and the way he treats his staff is appalling. On our second visit this year we were served by a lovely young lady who gave great service on an extremely busy night in the merm!! And we were shocked to witness the manager scream in her face for taking 5 minutes fresh air which you can’t blame her for when the pub felt like 50 degrees inside . I seriously think the owner should look into who he employs as management as it’s such a shame to see such a lovely quirky pub go downhill . We were hoping things had changed on this visit but clearly the staff are still as miserable as ever and it doesn’t take a genius to see why.

The meals we had were less than satisfactory. The scallops (starter)were rubbery and swimming in butter. The child’s burger (main meal) was dry as were the very crispy chips, as though they had been in an oven all afternoon and were completely inedible . The sausage was tasteless with chewy skin. The fish burger didn’t taste of anything and again chips were dried to a cinder. Two fish pies were ok but not much fish in there to be honest and vegetables were cold. Two of us had two small glasses of red wine. Five of us had prawn cocktails for a starter. Most of the food was left on the plates it was so bad.The manager took off the bill, one adult meal and one child meal and charged a child meal price for the sausages and still the bill was £140.00!! We’ve never had such a poor meal in The Mermaid for such an extortionate price. I’m not sure of the hygiene levels either since there was no soap in either the ladies or the men’s toilets. Would not recommend.

Poor hygiene and upset tummies! Absolutely shocked by the quality of the food and awful hygiene! NO HANDWASH in either the men’s or woman’s toilets and the quality of the food was poor. 2 of my family members had upset stomachs after eating - terrible experience! AVOID!

Always our first stop as the staff are friendly and welcoming. As it was bank holiday week-end - we were thrilled to actually get a table - my husband had the scallops from the specials board - followed by his favourite, belly pork - as he says, were delicious. As I am counting the calories, chef was happy to do a prawn salad - food lovely as always - and plentiful too - will surely be back on our next visit. Thanks guys!

We had a Sunday roast, vegs were well cooked, potato, red cabbage, cauli-cheese, mashed sweet, green beans and broccoli...as well as the roast and Yorkshire pudding. The dining room is at the back of a rather typical pub but is really smart

Very grubby pub with shoes sticking to the floor. Landlord a d locals at the bar swearing loudly and generally moaning in very unwelcome language . Due to behaviour didn,'t bother trying to order food. Had to wipe hands on leaving

High quality restaurant above a low quality pub. Service was good, food was surprisingly high-end and tasty, but too expensive for what it is even taking into account the location. Atmosphere is nothing special

Grubby looking pub , had a great view over the water that was totally ruined by the filthy window covered in flies . Food was not good, Ploughman’s had tiny piece of cheese and a horrible squishy tomatoes , fries served luke warm and soggy...

Really enjoyed our evening here and several afternoons in the bar, an easy friendly pub. Normal pub choice of beers, good range of gins. The dining area was a great friendly service and the food was excellent. Good value as Scilly goes.

Brilliant and friendly service with a good sense of humour. Starters were all lovely - mushroom soup , prawn cocktail and chicken strips. Main courses were hake, surf and turf, ribs and were all presented nicely and were very tasty No complaints at all

We were there for a late Sunday lunch, at 7 pm. Mega amount of food, 8 of your 5 a day, all for £22. The waitress was on her first day and she was excellent, she's a keeper!!

Went in for food around 6.30, no tables available in restaurant so are in bar. But noisy but not too bad. Food good, linguine, scampi and fish pie. Friendly staff.

You will not find a better pub in St. Mary's to enjoy food than The Mermaid, the range and quality was outstanding. Our two visits for an early evening dinner was a delight. I have no hesitation in recommending The Mermaid. Brilliant friendly service too.

First time in the place just went in for a drink decent beer nice staff. A place for the locals especially the young ones

Great "rock pub" for locals, visitors & day trippers. Extremely dog friendly with ice cream & cannine menu. Fab music & apparently great restaurant too although we never got to eat here.

We had a perfect Sunday Roast today, absolutely wonderful. The Mermaid Inn on Scilly serves a proper Sunday roast, choice of Lamb, Beef or Gammon. We had the perfectly cooked lamb with an enormous Yorkshire pudding, masses of vegetables and gravy. The chef is to be commended. The vegetables included potatoes, broccolini, sugar peas, cauliflower cheese, parsnips and red cabbage. A great mix and well cooked.There is a lovely dog wandering around but definitely well controlled. Beth our waitress was friendly, welcoming and has a great personality. The manager is very personable. Can’t recommend the Inn more. Well worth the visit. Sit upstairs in the restaurant with sea views and nice decor.

Best Sunday lunch!! Book in advance. Lovely views as well. Highly recommended.

Best pub on the island. More a locals drinkers pub than a 'gastropub' - though they do excellent food in the Slip Inn restaurant out the back. The main bar is absolutely full of historic artefacts from wrecks and memorabilia left by visitors and regulars. Some of the stuff just sitting silently on the walls could easily be in a museum. You really get the feeling you are walking in the footsteps of pirates and salty seadogs when you go in. A must visit.

It's great for the gig rowing championships when drinking! But the food isn't that great, it's very expensive and not high quality:/ waited an hour for ours, but the staff were nice and tried there best to help and gave us free deserts!

Simple, friendly tiny boozer, with a bright airy dining area in the front for viewing the harbour. Simple pub grub in the pub bit (didn't see the menu in the dining area) and a welcoming spot straight off the Scillonian.

The staff were lovely and friendly great atmosphere. The food was really nice good choice as I am Gluten Free. Had several meals there. Had a starter croquettes chees & ham delicious. Would of liked a choice of dessert other than ice cream or sorbet did mention this to the head chef. So maybe on my visit next year 😀

Just popped in for a drink, hard pressed to get a seat, it is Friday night after all. Buzzing atmosphere, pleasant barman.

Une escale inoubliable il y a 30 ans avec une bande d'amis en voilier vers Kinsale ! Il y avait un billard au centre de la salle ! Une ambiance formidable ! This place is the place to be when you cross the sea for Ireland ! Enjoy !

Amazing food so well cooked and fresh. Drinks are a bit expensive but the food is very well priced for the amount and quality of it. A brilliant place to go can't recommend it enough.

The food was absolutely top-notch, well-priced, and fast. The beer was a real treat. The ambiance was the best part, which is saying something.
