Superb stay at The Fountain Inn. My old local from 35 years ago. A very warm welcome from Tracey, a very comfortable room and excellent breakfast. We will return ! Highly recommend.

My wife and I have just had a meal at the fountain inn. And I have to say it was the best gammon I have had in a long time. It's a lovely little pub the land lady is very welcoming. The food came out quickly my wife's burger was cooked to perfection and the chips were so moorish. What a great find.

Arrived to the warmest of welcomes from Tracey, I don’t know how she does it, running a pub and b&b all on her own is amazing! She always had a smile and time for a friendly chat. Our room was spotlessly clean and very comfortable, lovely fluffy towels which were a decent size too! Some reviews mention noise from the road but we didn’t find it too noisy (which considering we live in a rural village with no through traffic is telling) Lovely to spend time in the pub with the friendly locals, drinks are reasonably priced and (according to hubby) the beer is very good! Breakfast was very good too. Excellent value for money. Thank you, Tracey!

Visited just for the great beer! Cosy village pub (with external seating too) serving much sought-after cask ales from Penzance Brewing Co. (currently still operating from their micro-brewery at the closed and for sale Star Inn pub in Crowlas). Notable too for Forged stout and Budweiser Budvar lager. Conveniently located on main bus route between Penzance and St Ives.

This establishment is a little hidden gem. From the moment you arrive you are greeted by Tracey with a warm welcome, and Millie, her dog. You know you are assured a great stay. We stayed for a family get together. The room we stayed in was rustic with a lot of the original features still visable, granite walls and fire grate for instance. The room was clean and sympatheticly decorated, to a standard that suites the premise. And of course, pets are welcome. The homemade food is especially good, Sunday roast is great, where a few hours disappear very quickly in great surroundings and company. A thoughly enjoyable stay yet again. Will we be back? Stupid question really, of course we will. A great weekend was had by all of us. To Tracey and her team, a huge 'thank you'

Had Sunday lunch today. The meal was amazing, I had a vegetarian option, tasted lovely, the vegetables were cooked to perfection, and the Yorkshire pudding was perfect. I also had the fruit crumble with clotted cream. Really couldn't have been better. Great welcoming atmosphere. Definitely recommend going, and I will be returning. You will need to book as it gets busy, particularly in peak season.

It was a little piece of Heaven on earth. We were greeted and welcomed as part of a lovely family. The pub is being restored and the effort and passion the owners put into this project is visible and heartwarming. My boyfriend is on wheelchair and Tracey and Ian put extra effort in making him feel comfortable. Lovely people, funny chit chats with both locals and guests. The room was unbelievably clean and cozy. Food was delicious. Local beers defintely worth trying. I will get back there soon, I hope.

We spent five nights at the Fountain Inn and have just returned home. The hosts Pete and Jennifer were very attentive and the room was immaculate. The breakfast, which you choose the day before, was lovely. All locally produced foods and cooked beautifully. Jennifer was keen for us to visit a couple of local attractions and pointed out on day one that we should book both if we wanted to go. A very handy tip because. I’m not sure we would have got in had we deliberated. Pete was on hand with local tips when we told him our plans for the day which again we found most helpful. You definitely need a car when staying here as there is nowhere to walk to for a drink or to eat but we found no end of lovely places nearby in Newlyn and Penzance and so the journey back after a long day is only a couple of miles. Our restaurant recommendations would be the Penzance Hotel, The Alverne and The Boatshed in Penzance and the crab soup and main meals at the Red Lion in Newlyn were fab! There has been a lot of reviews mentioning all the signs and rules. All I can say is that the owners must have had to put these in place because of previous abuse of the place? If you’re house trained, these should not worry you! :-)Thanks Pete and Jennifer for a very pleasant stay.Gary and Michelle

there are mixed reviews about this establishment. I think they depend on how the guest treats the hosts. The lady greeted us warmly and we were given a nice room. Although it was on the street side, there was no noise. Her husband served us breakfast and gave us lots of tips about what to do. The atmosphere is friendly and courteous. There is attention to detail and the place is spotless. Very much value for money. I would certainly recommend this accommodation

First and foremost our room was beautifully furnished and spotlessly clean. The bed was extremely comfortable. Breakfast was good, but only if you’re an early riser and want to eat between 7.30 and 8.30, having chosen your time slot the night before. The location, for exploring the tip of Cornwall, was excellent. We found our hosts friendly, but it was little off putting finding so many instructions around the place as to what we shouldn’t do whilst staying there. There were far more warnings than welcoming notices. I understand the reasoning behind the notices, but feel that the information could have been conveyed differently. One thing that would greatly improve things would be access into the building when the hosts were not there or were otherwise indisposed. Without a key, we felt that we had to let our hosts know our plans so that we could get back into our room during the day, and felt that we were inconveniencing them when we returned after 10 pm and had to be let in.We enjoyed our stay, but think the place has so much more to offer

Cannot believe me and my friend were treated like we were. We spoke to them on the phone and said we’d be arriving late, we were not informed/ warned that there was a specific check in time. We arrived late after a long day to find that it was closed, we rung up and were greeted by a hostile and quite frankly rude couple saying they were going to bed and wouldn’t let us in even though we’d paid £100 for the night! So me and my friend had to shell out loads to get a taxi to another hotel who were much more friendly and accommodating. We rang the next day and the hostile, annoying couple decided to deny giving us a full refund after NOT EVEN STAYING IN THE ROOM!!! And had the cheek to say they were tired from us waking them up! Utter disgrace. Awful awful people I strongly recommend no one visits this place they do not deserve the good reviews they have or the amount of customers they get. Essentially stole £100 from me and my friend should be illegal these kinds of people make me lose faith in humanity.

First of all I have to say this B&B was spotlessly clean. However, although the welcome was civil I felt that we were a bit of an inconvenience to the owners.. I know they have done a great job with converting this place, but the strict notices about what we couldn't do made it feel a bit regimented and unfriendly. The room was clean and comfortable, but didn't like to have to choose my breakfast the night before as I wasn't sure what I would fancy to eat the next morning. The cold selection was very limited, but the hot food was well cooked.

Stayed here last night. I'm amazed by some of the reviews on here regarding being asked to take muddy, wet shoes off etc. The lovely couple who own and run this B&B have obviously put in a huge amount of work on renovating this old inn. When I walked into my room it was absolutely spotless and so cosy, would I be so happy if there was mud stains on the carpet on stains on the bed from dirty cases? No, I would not. For the life of me I cannot see why, that a couple who take so much care and pride in their establishment to keep it nice for paying guests is a problem, would you not take your muddy shoes off before going into your own house? This is a beautiful, clean and very friendly B&B in a great location, easy parking and very comfortable rooms. They offer a basic snack menu but there are plenty of other places nearby if you want something more substantial, the owners will even tell you where you can find the best restaurants. I couldn't fault it at all and would definitely book again when I'm back in that area.

Visited this place in 2016 and had several fabulous pints plus a fantastic ploughman's. Visited this evening to find that it is now solely a B&B and that unless you are a staying guest then you will not even be served with a pint. Strangely enough the bar was totally deserted with no paying guests eating or drinking. I find this attitude quite terrible to be honest because we were quite prepared to spend around £40 at least. The business must be doing well to turn away people prepared to spend money. Not impressed though and needless to say I will never stay at or recommend the Fountain to anyone.

Lovely B&B. Beautifully refurbished, tasteful and in keeping with the property. Great ales in the bar, all the food - evening meal and breakfast was fabulous, local great quality produce and good portion sizes and very pleased they were able to offer us GF bread that we ordered in advance.Room - family room - was great, I particularly liked the heated towel rail - even in August this was lovely. The car park was ample and easy to access. My only niggles regarding our stay are perhaps down to some unsavoury folks having stayed here previously.. I am guessing at this. Yes we were made welcome and yes the place was perfect and yes I expected some brusqueness in character based on previous reviews but I couldn't shake off the feeling that I was staying at my Mother in Law's perfect house and I shouldn't really be there... I wondered if they had previously had guests who were really messy or loud and this accounted for the double checks on how wet our shoes were - (well it was raining?) - the warnings not to disturb the top bunk bedclothes unless we wanted to be charged full room rent etc. Also, as lovely as the food is, with no music playing and no friendly conversation from the hosts, it felt a little stilted and gave no cover to our children's normal chatter and noise which made me feel awkward... Something, anything gently playing in the background would help the area feel more welcoming. The car park is locked at night, I don't know what time it is locked but I wondered if there was a curfew for entry at night? We were there early evening because of the children going to bed so had no need to ask but maybe something worth considering? I personally feel this place is better suited to couples rather than families. We had a disastrously wet day on our second day and didn't feel able to return to the B&B until the evening, I appreciate it isn't a hotel but have stayed in places like this before and wouldn't have felt it an issue to fall back to the bar or bedroom, we didn't here though. Only small issues but these can make all the difference.

Please ignore all the negative comments posted on here from other guests. There must be some very strange people about, or more to the point they have never really stayed at the Fountain inn?We have just returned home after a two night stay at this B & B. A lovely hard working, friendly couple Jenny and Pete keep this establishment running like clockwork. We had a lovely room; it was immaculate and spotlessly clean. The bed was one of the most comfortable beds we have ever slept in. We eat in on our first night (after a very early start and a busy day) my wife had ham, eggs and chips and I had scampi, chips and salad, they were both absolutely delicious. We fancied a steak on our second evening, and Pete recommended an establishment in St Just (a couple of miles away) and he was so right.Breakfast was superb, in fact we only needed a very light lunch after breakfast at the Fountain. The Fountain is ideally positioned for lots of places to visit and see nearby, which can’t be done in two days, so we will return ASAP.

This is a first rate B&B in spite of some negative comments from other guests! The welcome we received was very friendly. Derbyshire folk can be quite straightforward - and that is no bad thing. We found Pete really nice and had a lovely long chat at the bar. Pete recommended a particular cider which I enjoyed. We ate here in the evening. As has been stressed on the website, this is a B&B that does food and what they do is excellent. I had one of the best prawn cocktails ever and my husbands soup was delicious he said. We both had ham, egg and chips which was also great. Large portions and well prepared. The bedroom was immaculate as was the bathroom and shower. I don't find it a problem choosing my breakfast in the evening. I usually have a pretty good idea what I like and want. It was well cooked and hot. Tea was excellent.I recommend the Fountain Inn and will definitely return if back this way again.

My husband and I stayed at this Inn on Saturday night. We were both greeted on arrival with a very business like manner. It wasn't as friendly as we thought...Has soon as we got too our room it was recently refurbished which you couldn't fault. Maybe a picture and bin but other than that it was very clean. The furniture lovely too.On a bad note though we had too complete a booking form and a breakfast menu as soon as we got there. We didn't even have our evening meal let alone thinking about breakfast and time which for a Sun was very early. We decided to go out for our meal as they only had a basic menu. No one was around when we went. On coming back they were both busy doing there things I'm guessing a more friendly approach would of been nice.Had a lovely nights sleep. Shower was great too.In the morning we did notice there was a dust cap on the smoke detector so my husband told the landlady no sorry at all she just didn't say anything. Not a good start too the day.The breakfast was cooked lovely. No complaints except for abit of friendly talk which we did get from the landlord for a few mins.We decided to go earlier as this Inn wasnt for us. We only did a one night stay. If we booked two or more nights we would of had too look for another place.

I was travelling with my family to show them the beauty of cornwall. We have made a mistake when booking the room. As soon as we arrived, the landlord started to raise his voice by saying that there was a problem because we have booked the room wrong! We tried to understand what was going on and quickly understood it was our mistake. From that point I have asked the landlord if we could meet in the middle with regards to the price. He responded with a "you've booked the room wrong so its not my problem, i dont care". I got annoyed myself and responded sharply by saying that he cant say that he doesnt care and that he should do somekind of gesture. The landlord then raised his voice by saying "I wont take any crap from you, i might as well cancel the reservation". We had no other choice than shut up and pay what he asked for. Again, the misake in the reservation is on our side but it is totally unacceptable to behave like the landlord did in front of customers. It is easy to be kind when everything goes well, but he missed the opportunity to show real competence in customer service. If you read this comment, this landlord does not deserve to have any customers. I have told my parents all about how English people are polite and kind, but unfortunately the landlord proved that there is an exception to every rule. Our stay that evening what completely ruined.

My Wife and I stumbled across The Fountain Inn by accident, after deciding to spend another day in this beautiful part of Cornwall, I guess we just wanted our break to last a little longer. We were shown in to a newly decorated and refurbished room by the co-owner Jennifer. The room was very clean and tastefully decorated, with a very comfortable bed, and en-suite shower room. Everything you would want from a B&B and at a reasonable price. After snatching a couple of well earned hours rest, we walked a short distance in to the main bar area where we met Pete, Jennifer's husband and Co-Owner. Both were very amenable, without being obtrusive. I took Pete's advice and sampled a few pints of various local beers, they were delicious and truly satisfied my thirst. I enjoyed having a real conversation with Pete, he is an interesting character, and has many interesting stories to tell. I know the main business is as a B&B, but he really suits the role of innkeeper. Later that evening we had a very pleasant evening meal from the pub menu, good quality local produce, well presented and served hot, what more could you ask for as we sat near a log fire, on a somewhat chilly evening. Breakfast the following morning was of the same good quality. We found the Fountain Inn to be a little Gem, Pete and Jennifer have obviously put a lot of love, time, effort, and money in to breathing new life in to the B&B/Pub and it shows. We felt welcome and at home.Based on our experience no complaints whatsoever! Look forward to our next trip to the area I'm sure we will be spending a few more days there as we continue to explore this area of Cornwall. It really made an impression on us, how an Inn should be!

Sadly the scenario was similar to that of the old comedy 'Fawlty Towers',charming lady co owner greeted us while her partner studiously moped the floor behind the bar. I commented on how good it was to see barrels and real ale/cider as a favorite pub of ours went from that to chrome and basket meals...well that started the old boy off and it became obvious that we were not welcome. From the comment that it was a B&B and not a real pub to not offering either a menu or drink while never actually looking up from his mop we decided to thank them and move on....we could not help laughing on the way back to the car, when they said that not many locals used it as a Pub I was surprised,in my old days in the Dockyard he would have been described as a 'Character'.Now from the reviews I guess we caught the old codger on an off day, although we neither ate or drank their which was a pity,I shall remember our short visit and conversation for quite a while.

Sitting at the bar with my wife in the evening having a nice cold beer was brilliant, the breakfast was really lovely, the bed room it's self for what we paid was more than we expected everything in are room looked brand new . outside the Fountain looks stylish, the atmosphere is friendly and inviting. We just had two piggy burgers, these were very tasty. There is a lot more to choose from and all looked fresh. Maybe a bit pricey for a large family on a budget but I would not hesitate to recommend this restaurant.

We made a special trip by bus from Penzance Because I wanted to sample the ciders and beers from the casks behind the bar, which meant I couldn't drive there. The bar was cosy, tastefully furnished and immaculately clean. The range of food was reassuringly limited, ensuring that it was really prepared freshly to order from top quality local ingredients. The portions were generous and there was a good selection of authentic ciders and beers. The prices were very reasonable for such outstanding quality. The landlord and landlady have produced a superb pub and B&B out of a formerly derelict old inn. We will definitely try to stay there next time we visit the area.

On holiday in St Ives and visited Penzance for the cinema and short shopping trip on the train for a day out with the kids. Was going to have a spot of lunch and really struggled to find somewhere we were comfortable with. Came across the Fountain Inn as we were wandering. Popped in and received a very warm welcome. Lovely menu. We have a child with Asperges and has extremely difficult to cater for food tastes. However the staff were very accommodating and provided exactly what he asked for. Didn't sway off the menu too much but they were happy to oblige and very Pleasent with it. Was busy but staff were very attentive. And very reasonably price with a good 2 for 1 offer on the day. So pleased to have found this place and will definatly be visiting again. Thank you!

Four of us (plus our cocker spaniel) looking for somewhere to have lunch. Attracted to this quaint property by the array of beautiful flower boxes. Made very welcome by landlord and his wife. A pleasant surprise to have beer/cider poured straight from the barrel. A great pint to savour whilst our meals were being prepared. Menu was more than adequate for our needs and the food plentiful, wholesome and nicely served. Wished we were staying more local so that we could be holiday "regulars".

I have visited the fountain main times before with my family so when we saw that it was up and running again we thought we would give it a go for dinner. When we arrived we were greated with a scowl, not even a hello we were given pointed answers to our questions about food (as there was no menus to be seen) we felt so uncomfortable and unwanted that we left after being told we 'would be better off in St just". From your comments on here and the way we were treated customer service needs to be over hauled to say the least, people have a right to an opinion and a warm welcome when they have come to spend money. I agree with other comments that the food options are more than minimal (about 3), I can understand that from your comments that this is what you are going for but I think this is going to work against you in the end. Far better pubs in the area.

Wanted a change from pubs in st just so ventured in the other direction after seeing it whilst on our travels. Very nice looking from the outside and the inside, and from what I saw I would assume the rooms would be of a high standard. Only disappointment for me was that there wasn't much of a menu, if you like jacket potatoes or chilli you're onto a winner if you're after much else then probably best to go elsewhere, although what we did get tasted nice.

Stayed for 2 nights over this august bank holiday, the owners were very friendly showing us the best places to go, the room was very clean and comfortable and the cooked breakfast was the best b+b fry-up I've had yet! Highly recommended! Tick options not entirely accurate for this place as I think it's set as a restaurant not b+b

Stayed here four nights last week. Excellent base to stay for seeing all the local touristy locations. The owners Pete and Jennifer were very welcoming and friendly as were the locals. The Inn has had a complete refurb under the new owners and a good job has been done. The food was excellent with decent sized portions (compliments to Jennifer). Standards are high and great value for the price.

4 of us called in today 1.25 pm pub empty, ordered 3 soft drinks, a tea and four rounds of sandwiches. enjoyed drinks outside in sun whilst waiting for food. Just after 2, I went in to ask how long the sandwiches would take and did not appreciate the sharp comments of the owner saying we hadn't been waiting long and they didn't serve fast food, my comment was we would just appreciate food! Sandwiches arrived 2.06, pleasent lady apologising for delay. Delicious if rather costly food spoiled by mine hosts attitude..... Good job the pub wasn't busy! Local customer!

At the end of a day exploring the local sights we looked for a local pub with good food. The Fountain lived up to this and much more. A very freindly welcome and a basic pub grub menu with good wholesome food. We had the local cheese board which was large and well stocked with local Cornish fayre and jacket with cheese and ham with salad. All this with one of the great real ales on offer and a glass of medium red wine all came to £19.30. The pub was attended by many locals who were friendly and loved to chat making us feel very much at home. Overall a very clean, friendly and unique local Cornish pub that should not be missed and should be on everyones list to visit.

We have visited many times in the past, enjoying the olde worlde charm, interesting menu and atmosphere at the Fountain. Although they have great cask ales unfortunately it is now run as a bed and breakfast and the dining room has been re-furbished to look like most other places. It has lost its special individuality and now has a very limited and boring menu. We left feeling sad that another charming old pub has been lost.

Popped in for a drink and lunch, mid way through my walk. 3 choices of cider "on tap". Very approachable and friendly barman/owner. Ordered prawn sandwiches on whole meal bread and bowl of chips. Sat outside and food was brought out within 10-15 minutes..all very fresh...bread was delicious. All presented on very nice floral patterned plates...made a nice change from the ubiquitous clinical white, that most pubs/restaurants use. Didn't sit in pub, as was such a beautiful day, but it looked inviting and comfortable. Would be happy to eat there again and they do B and B, which is great..whilst they do food at lunchtime and evenings, having spoken to the owner I get the impression you would always be able to get something to eat, even outside of these hours. Though perhaps not the full menu. This is something other pubs in the area could take note of! Many people in this area are walkers/visitors who can't always time their visits to coincide with "traditional" food serving times! All in all, great place to eat, SO pleased this pub is up and running again and am sure the new ish owners will do well! I ll certainly be recommending it!

Always good real ale on tap, literally. Lovely multi-fuel burner inviting you into the lounge, set within an impressive inglenook fireplace. Love to pop in here after a walk or trip out somewhere as it is homely and welcoming. Small menu but quality and quantity of food is impressive. From home-cooked ham to home-made chile, and the cheeses served are of excellent quality, all local Cornish types. Would recommend this Inn to anyone wanting a comfortable B & B with home-cooked food and good beer. Can't go wrong!

Enjoyed a very good, home cooked meal. Generous portions sufficient for the most hungry traveller!!We visited some years ago prior to the refurb and, whilst the pub looks very smart and clean, a wee bit of atmosphere has been lost. Would suggest lower level lighting to make more intimate and cosy - and the real log fire back again would be great, although understand a bit messy! We will be dining again shortly.

We were very happy to find a pub of this quality by chance and the Landlady gave us a delicious lunch of homemade soup, ham & eggs. The ham was cooked by her too and it was washed down with excellent ale chosen from small brewery's and kept at its best by the Landlord. We'll definitely come by again and we wish them all the best with their business in 2014

We were staying in the village but our route planner had played us false and sent us to local pig farm! The owner very kindly gave us directions back to the village and as the blasted Garmin was still trying to send us back to the farm we pulled in to get some food and refreshment (after a 7 hour drive). The Fountain Inn proved to be wonderful refuge with a simple menu yet every item was cooked freshly and beautifully presented. My husband also discovered the local cider which we both developed a taste for over the week... We returned several times over the week (it turned out our accomodation was only 50 yds or so down the road - handy that) and the food and service were consistently fabulous. As we have family and friends in West Cornwall we will return and next time we will take advantage of the lovely rooms too!

We booked here so we were not too many miles away from the port for our onward journey to Scilly Isles. A lovely welcome awaited us, we were shown to our room which was spotlessly clean. The evening meal was very well cooked. It's a small, simple menu but great homecooked food. The cheeseboard platter was locally sourced (as was most of the main courses) and absolutely delicious. The room was cosy & top quality sheets/linen. Our ferry was too early in order for us to stay for breakfast which I am sure would have been great. Local beers are on tap here and it seems to be a winner with the locals for food & drink. Would definately stop again, making sure we didn't have to rush off and miss breakfast!

My family and I ate here on our first night in Cornwall. We were all tired and very hungry after a very long (and not very nice) journey. Our presence was very well received, as we chatted away to the locals - who made us feel very welcome. It's a quaint, traditional English pub, that's inviting and it is very clean. We were absolutely astonished when six hearty meals, with cups of tea etc. came to under £35.00!! Very good value for money.

We didn't stay at this Inn/b&b but were just up the road so passed on a few occasions before we ventured inside. What a lovely surprise. It has recently been totally renovated to a very high standard. The beers and ciders are served direct from the barrel and all sourced locally from micro breweries. The menu is limited but we found the home-cooked ham, egg and chips very tasty. It is also possible to have jacket potatoes, baguettes, sausages etc. The owners were friendly and welcoming and deserve more custom! The first time we went in we were the only customers and on the second occasion we were 3 of 6. I know this place was closed for a long time but please locals, give it a chance! It would have a lovely atmosphere if the place was bustling! We will definitely call again if we are in the area.

We went to The Princess Pavilion to watch Ride, although the hall is cosy for a concert the acoustics were excellent, there are good toilets and a well appointed bar and ample free parking at the site. We ate out at Wetherspoons in Falmouth which was clean friendly served a good curry and a good pint. Falmouth is an old haunt which myself and my kids frequented to visit my dad who lived there for many years. The town and harbour are still a fond favourite of mine. 👌🏻
