The best restaurants serving British food in South East

How has this place only got 3.5 stars. Food amazing, atmosphere amazing. Packed out place that’s buzzing with the sounds of people enjoying great food and drink. This was our first time here and it certainly won’t be the last. We enjoyed some amazing tapas dishes. The quality, taste and presentation was excellent. Staff were lovely and service was good. Before we ordered we were told there would be a half hour wait for food. I like that they were honest and told us. So many places don’t communicate like this. Thank you to all the staff that made our evening a great one

We had really high expectations of this restaurant.We had 2 nights stay in Wootton House Hotel(which was really lovely!) The starter was a cold pressing of chicken and ham,it had very little flavour,also the mains of 1 chicken and 1 salmon at £116 for 2 it was very expensive and not worth the money. We cancelled the 2nd nights booking. Waiting staff were very nice

Always a delightful spot and great service, one of me and my wife’s favourite places to visit. Great in the summer months

Went with family, everything was lovely! The fruit tart was our favourite and will definitely come again sometime soon

Fantastic full English breakfast - just what I needed before the long drive home. The cafe has a relaxed welcoming atmosphere and a great view of the sea. Really nice customer service too. Definitely worth a visit.

Really enjoyable stay. Lovely warm spacious room with comfy beds and good food. The hotel appeared in good decorative order throughout. The hotel is positioned nearly opposite the pier and not too far from town

Would be 4 star if ony they sold croissants to go with coffee. We'll try again in a few weeks to see if they've started selling them. If not we' ll go elsewhere.

Very nice hotel and clean room. Nice large tv. Hotel could use updated but very large hotel but very friendly. Biggest disappointment was no lift.

Awful again prices have gone up AGAIN within just a few weeks portion was only half the amount seems not only increased price but half the amount. Chips were Luke warm and just scrappy bits very poor quality at a rip off price avoid at all cost much better chip shop in main street who give good portions and better quality. Will not go to smarts again

Had the best frappe ever. We took home box of muffine which looked so good . Staff very friendly. There is just one think the place could be renovated little bit

The home made ice cream here is second to none! they have loads of very tastey home made and baked treats supplied by local people. Not to mention all the amazing locally sourced fresh meat that is butchered right there on site. This is my idea of a great farm shop!! The best part is the butcher always has a fresh bone or two for my dog when he sees us coming!! So lucky to have such a good farm shop near by!!

Second time visiting for lunch. Delightful healthy fresh options. Staff happy and attentive, very clean worth a visit.

My wife and I saw an advert on our local community group saying this establishment was doing very good fish and chips for take away. On the group site people were saying this cost £7:50 each for fish&chips but you had to order in advance. My wife wife placed an order and on the other end of the phone it sounded like an old lady taking the order, she was very abrupt and wasn’t listening to what was being asked and just kept talking over what my wife was trying to ask. Anyway we eventually placed our order. When we arrived to pick it up my wife went into the side entrance and went to pay, the old lady was quite rude and said it was £8:50 each, when my wife said that on the local page it everyone was saying £7:50. She just brushed it off and said she didn’t know about that, my wife only had £15 in cash and as we had only ordered for 2 this is all she had. There were dogs running around the area as well not very hygienic. The price appears to change depending on who you are as my wife went back to the local group and the members are still saying they pay £7:50. First and last time using this pub takeaway the fish and chips were a small portion for the price.

So I live local to this pub and have visited it many times. The menu regularly changes and previously the food has been good. However on my latest visit we ordered three dishes from the Tapas menu namely the nachos, satay chicken and halloumi. Upon arrival of the nachos the chef had made the cardinal sin of using sauce out of a plastic bottle to replicate sour cream, salsa and guacamole. The fact that this was rank sauce was squirted in three lines across the nachos made the dish inedible. The satay chicken was good but again the sauce had obviously come out of a bottle. The halloumi was passable. Tapas should be bog standard for a chef and not thrown together by taking short cuts and replacing fresh products with muck from a plastic bottle.
