The Big Thumb fish and chips in Bracknell Forest

It's like the KFC chicken of old! Love this chippy, best chips I've eaten, and they are lovely in the shop. We eat here once a week! firm family favourite.

Nice fish & chips, but three price increases in less than a year has meant we now buy fresh fish ourselves and cook at home. Good - but too expensive.

We ordered fish and chips. The cod was amazing and the portion sizes were fantastic. I’m picky with this sort of stuff. Generous portion of chips too

Though the servings were ample I thought the cod and chips were very greasy. Having just arrived in the UK for the first time two days ago it was very inconvenient not being able to pay with a credit card. We could not get the online app to accept payment. After one hours wait and an expensive transaction at an ATM machine we finally received our greasy food.

Staff are nice. Chips are lovely and hot but the chicken wings in sauce are hard and dry, I threw away most of it. I would go here for chips but don’t trust anything else. The staff are really nice too

Disgusting. They salted the southern fried chicken, even though I said no salt or vinegar. Made it impossible to eat. Chips were pale and soggy.

Ordered the salt and pepper box meal. I know it said salt but way way too salty. Will not be ordering again from here .

excellent service. Will politely say what kind of fish you need. Also worth the wait. Freshly cooked fish is delicious. Highly recommended. The fries are also delicious.

First purchase, cash only. A friend told me that I can place an order on the store's website. The attitude and service of the staff are very good. I hope the food is also good. I will go back to this place!

We used to use this place when the old couple ran it. Since it hasn't been good and we have avoided it. Today I was in Warfield and decided to give it a try. I ordered the fish to be freshly fried, fearing those in the hot plate section would have dried out. The fish was massive but much of that was due to the thickness of the batter, which was very dark - either overcooked or cooked in unclean oil. It was very greasy and salty. The chips, which were huge portions, tasted stale. My family threw away more than 50% of what we ordered. The signs are clear, it was a Friday night, at supper time and I was the only one in the shop. Such a pity, Binfield is a well off area, where folk would be prepared to pay a good price for good quality food. If they could get their act together they'd have a thriving business,

I visited the first time just after the 2020 lockdown ended in the summer. The chips were incredibly greasy (as you can see from the paper in the photo) and the batter tasted stale, as if it were pre-lockdown and not fresh. Fast forward to March 2021 and my son and I decided to give them another try to see if they had improved. Unfortunately not. The chips were still greasy, although not as bad, I can't comment on the quality of the fish as I'm no expert on fish but we also had a jumbo sausage. Having made sausages myself and understanding the texture and quality of meat and what it should look and taste like, this was disgusting. Possibly the cheapest sausages I have had in the UK. So two visits, both very poor. I would recommend avoiding this establishment.

I went here on recommendation, I was not disapointed, the fish and chips were excellent. I genuinely have never had such a large portion of cod ever in my life! We ordered two small portions of chips and it was shared between three people, and there were still chips left over! My only critisism is I have a thing about skin being left on the cod when it is battered and fried, I would prefer it skinless. But that's just me and no reason to downrate them.

I had not had fish and chips from here for some time. Fish and chips were really good - tasty, big portions, crispy batter. Good mushy peas too.

After having been disappointed last year that the chips were no longer as glorious as they once were, I am pleased to say my last 4 visits have been good quality chips. Crispy, fluffy, fresh. Decent portions. Being veggie, I can't comment on the fish and meat. But everything I've had has been enjoyable recently. Yeaaahhh! Binfields culinary treasure, the Big Thumb has Bounced Back.

Used to be so good here but food is inedible, batter is big and soggy hiding a tiny piece of fish and the chips are also soggy. After a few mouthfuls it all went in the bin, and it isn’t cheap so a very expensive experience, never again!

The chips are nothing compared to how good they used to be! :( I grew up in Binfield, eating big thumb chips and bragging to lads from neighbouring towns about how good the chips used to be... Always bemused as to how they were SO much better than your average chippy. How?! Did the old couple just fill them with love?! Was it the cooking method? Now the original couple have gone, the chips are little disappointing in comparison. Dryer. Less fluffy. Less crispy. It's a shame. But perhaps my standards were set too high!?I hope they can learn the secret to great chips!

Wouldn't recommend the batter on my cod was awful it went in the bin. The chips were ok but felt disappointed with the meal. Will not be returning

Been here a few times and they always cook the food to order, so it’s always fresh and hot with nice crispy batter on the fish. Mushy peas are good but the curry sauce isn’t really to my liking, that’s the only reason they get a point knocked off and a 4\5. Worth a visit if you are in the area.

After passing the chip shop in Binfield on the way home having not eaten all day I could not resist stopping in.After purchasing battered sausage and chips and stopping a couple of miles up the road to eat I was gutted. Genuinely the worst food I can remember eating. The batter tasted horrible and dripping in grease. The chips tasted like they had gone cold and warmed up more than once. I enjoy a nice plate of chips and these are worste I think I have ever had.So much so this is the first food review I have left.Based on today I won’t be going back.

Recommended by a friend and worth the 20 minute drive. Everything is cooked fresh and you even have the choice of your chips being cooked as normal or crispy. The cod and plaice were delicious. Two people cooking and two serving and you can park outside. Cash only no credit cards.

Called in as they opened at 5 pm - need two haddock and chips which had to be cooked from fresh - took over 10 minutes - what a result? Fish really tasty with excellent batter and chips good - service very efficient and portion very big (great) at a reasonable price - hadn't been for ages - will be visiting again soon - excellent

Always freshly cooked and delicious, but WHY aren't you open on a Sunday? Good food, not expensive, and always good quality. Kids love the battered sausages and chips, fish (cod) was large and fresh with crispy batter. Yum.

We don’t go as often as we used to. I don’t like the batter on the fish as much as the previous owners. It is crispy but not light airy and crispy as before. The portion sizes are good and the meal is always very hot. Service is very quick and the staff always pleasant. Will still go.

Located in a small parade of shops with a small amount of parking outside. Excellent food, reasonably priced and fast. Good service and always the sun news paper to read whilst your waiting. Would recommend.

This place is great food cooked fresh when ordered, not greasy, generous portions sizes. Certainly the best chip shop in the area well worth a visit when you wanted that cheeky takeaway.

Have ordered food from the big thumb quite a few times when I want something very quickly and want to give my fiance a break from cooking. The food is hot and cooked very well and the staff are very polite and friendly and helpful. The cost is also very good for the food and I would recommend to everyone to try them out, if in the area.

I could not believe it that the fish and chip places have been taken over by the Chinese. Even so the chips and Haddock we ordered were first class. We went back for a second meal which was also good value.

Staff are well coming and u don’t have to wait long I havont been in there when they been busy they nomily have what u want so u can be in and out in 5 minites

This is the 3rd time of using them since new owners and I hoped the chips would improve but unfortunately this has not happened, so a thumbs down from me as really soggy under cooked chips, it better to do yourself or get from a supermarket!!
