The best restaurants serving British food in South East

We had a lovely lunch for my sister’s birthday. The staff were very friendly and the meal was tasty. The pub is off the beaten track but it’s worth the trip. Whilst we were there there was a sizeable herd of wild deer in the field opposite. A great country pub!

If we could put an 11 out of 10 we would do. From the moment we were greeted at the door and coats taken to the friendly waitress who took us to our table and and gave us just excellent service. We started with a beer and expresso coffee while sitting and choosing what to have off the menu. Just to say every thing we chose looked good and was very tasty including a very nice bottle of wine. Plus we didn't feel rushed when we had our coffees at the end of our meal just a brilliant evening. Plus our friendly waitress sings and plays in a local band. Called Peachy Keen . They are good. Booked and paid a £30 deposit for lunch on Easter Sunday only to turn up to find the restaurant closed with a closed until further notice sign on the door. No message from them to inform us. DO Not Book with this restaurant wherever they are now.

Stayed in Battle for few days had intended to book afternoon tea here but sadly didn’t get round to it, stopped in for breakfast on our last day which was lovely. Lady serving us was very friendly and chatty. We also enjoyed the cakes we bought to take home. Great music playing too.

Wanted to visit for some time, so glad we visited today, just a shame it took us so long. Such a warm welcome, knowledgeable staff and top notch customer care… a refreshing change to be met with enthusiasm and a positive attitude. The food was excellent, tasty, great quality and perfectly cooked. The best burger we have had by a mile!

Imaginative menu, sometimes deliciously powerful. Well worth the set price for a very enjoyable evening. Wines easy, perhaps laking adventure some of them.

Outstanding food and service from start to finish. Definitely in my top 3 restaurants ever visited. I have recommended this place to many of my friends, who have said exactly the same!

We booked a table for six by phone in the morning for A Boxing Day lunch and were lucky enough to get a table. We all had pizzas, chosen from a wide ranging menu and we each had a superb meal. The pub looked great in its Christmas finery but it always is an attractive and welcoming place. There was a real family atmosphere created by the staff, making it a pleasure and a treat to be there. We have been before but it reminded us that we should go there more often.

Just celebrated my mums 85th birthday 🎂 in the best way possible with the most fabulously scrumptious afternoon tea at Lady Scarletts. From the wonderfully warm welcome, a beautifully decorated table in the heart of the tea rooms, full of delicious treats, candles and buckets of tea to the fabulous nostalgic wartime decor and music, a truly emmersive experience. Every attention to detail was made to ensure we celebrated in style and had everything we needed xxx Even Barney our faithful hound was treated to his own special seat at the table and treats! Cant recommend highly enough! If you're in Ventnor this is by far the best place to come for some tasty treats and to step back graciously in time with the quirky decor and the warmest of welcomes. Thankyou so much for making our mums birthday a truly magical and memorable occasion ✨️

Another fabulous meal at Ollivers, Intimate restaurant with bags of atmosphere . Fresh , original menu and food , host Steve is nothing but attentive , with his wife preparing great dishes , can’t wait to return

Steak pasty was absolutely lovely, recommend highly! Staff were polite and cheerful. Service was quick and food was piping hot!

Celebrated my 60 th birthday here and we were able to book the whole tearoom to accommodate family and friends. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. All the guests came away saying they couldn’t praise the hospitality , amazing food and kindness shown to all of us that afternoon enough. Definitely my tearoom go to . I can assure you that you won’t be disappointed.

It was really lovely quaint and relaxing the staff were really lovely and friendly and the food was amazing we haven't been here before but we are definitely going back again and iv put it on social media and shared thank you 😁

The best place for breakfast. We travel from Southampton each time to enjoy it. The quality of food, the service and the whole place is amazing. We absolutely love coming back and we have reassurance that the food will as superb as each time . Coming back tomorrow for a lunch and cannot wait.

We came here for a lovely evening to celebrate my mums birthday. Really relaxed atmosphere with quick and attentive service. Thanks Viola and Kris for looking after us and Khum for the great cocktails. We also ordered some snacks and the curly fries and Indian chicken skewers were great, perfect accompaniment to drinks.
