The best restaurants serving British food in North West

I meet up with a friend every few weeks in Cleveleys. We used to meet in one of the cafes, and then decided to meet in The Jolly Tars. It's a lovely warm, welcoming atmosphere with excellent staff. We usually have toast and coffee, which is great. I sometimes go there with my husband for lunch - again, lovely atmosphere, good food and very reasonably priced.

On Sun 9th Feb 2025 1pm my partner and I attended a pre-booked lunch at The Red Lion... We ordered the roast dinner... When it came we both commented on the temperature of the meals.. One side of the plate was warm the other cold only the middle was hot... My partner drew this to the attention of a waitress and asked if it could be microwaved(not a good solution) I elected not have mine done due to tales I've heard of kitchen staff interfering with complaining customers meals(no evidence at this pub).. On paying the bill.. Waitress asked if all OK.. I explained the above and she adjusted the bill to £15.50(should have been £30) and offered us our 25% voucher back... We declined stating we would not be back. Rated 2*... A meal should never leave a kitchen less than piping hot and should not then be microwaved... We deemed the 25% voucher referred to 25% of the meal being hot 🤷

I had takeaway fish 'n chips from here last night, and it was absolutely delicious. Everything about it was excellent.🙂 Portion size of chips was more than enough & the fish was cooked perfectly lovely and fresh. Top notch & a very decent size fish, too..... I don't often have 'chippy dinners', but I do love the food here, always consistently nice, kebabs are excellent and there is plenty to choose from great variety of food and pretty reasonably priced also. The staff are brilliant and very friendly. Best in the area by a mile !!!! 5 stars 🌟 🌟🌟🌟🌟

First visit to The Ship and was blown away how good this pub is! Fantastic location, lovely gastropub setting and brilliant food. The service was attentive and professional by every member of staff. We had 5 children with us as part of a family get together and they were all treated impeccably. Food portions, taste and presentation were faultless, can’t wait to return!

Absolutly gorgeous place. Fantastic prices for the quality of food we had. The warm pork pie was fantastic and something different the mixed grill is the best one iv ever had. The barman martyn was so friendly and Brought our drinks over to the table for us. Highly recommend and we WILL be going back

Lovely clean pub, attentive staff but not overbearing. Food was fantastic and home cooked. I had the spicy beef loaded chips and it was a generous portion and tasty, followed by the Baileys and Biscoff cheesecake which was delicious. I’ve not been before but I’ll definitely return. Easy to park and a lovely setting.

I have never been so humiliated in my whole life. 1st time visiting Manchester. Arndale centre. The Costa on the bottom floor. 1st of all they wudnt accept my friends money because it was northern Irish. My husband stuck up for her and told the girl it's all Sterling. She then proceeds to tell my husband she wasn't serving him... he then tells me and I go up and ask what the problem was with out money. She said we accept Scottish money but not yours. I told her this was discrimination. She then proceeds to call security and 3 guards ask us to leave with our items even though we paid for sit in. Costa you should be ashamed of yourself. Totally disgusting.

Yet again another excellent meal at the Healy. Typical English food and atmosphere. Fish and chips is very nice. The menu is constantly changing. Especially on the specials board. Dog friendly so win win all round.

Wife brought home last night 1 small sausage & small portion of chips from Tsos Said it cost £3.70. Checked on website. Should have cost £2.30. Absolute robbers. Other reviews have highlighted overcharging. This is not mistakes, this is systematic theiving. Last time ever buying here again

Met a friend for tea as we'd heard the Hightown had reopened, thought we'd give it a whirl. We were seated and given menus by Henry who was our server for the duration of our visit. He was lovely, very polite, attentive but not overbearing. Ordered fish and chips. We were pleasantly surprised, the fish was huge! The chips were skin on and chunky. Peas and home made tartar sauce. Very nice. Didn't have a starter or dessert, couldn't have managed either,this was a really good sized portion. Only criticism was the price, at £22 each, I thought this was a bit pricey. Hey ho, nothing is cheap these days.

Man at the desk was incredibly rude. Food was freezing Room not cleaned after previous person. same bedsheets still On bed not made. Bed was verry uncomfortable,Room stunk and had damp all on the walls Looks absolutely nothing like the pictures freezing cold water the hot water didn't work the shower was broken ,the light in bedroom didn't even turn on. wouldn't recommend

This was the best carvery that I've had in years n years 😊 The food was so tasty and you got a really good portion of meat too,The staff were really nice and very helpful as well. Id defo recommend going for one and to top it off we got 25% off the complete bill for downloading the Toby App 😊

There was only 3 of us in. However the time of day makes the difference it was 4pm on Saturday. Food was lovely and service was quick.
