The steak & ale pie made with suet pudding is the best in the country, lots of delicious meat. The pub is lovely and in a lovely location on the canal. The staff are friendly.

Excellent food, Service and atmosphere. 3 courses for £18.75 was amazing value. First visit here from recommendation and we can't wait to return. Thankyou for a great meal.

Last night on the canal. Steak pie at the Red Bull was just what we needed, suet crust, rich gravy and absolutely delicious. Some fine ales here to complement it. A good finale to a great week

We had a few pubs in mind but decided on the Red Bull for an early Sunday evening meal. We got a table for 18.30. It was quite busy which is always a good sign. Our table was ready when we entered the bar and the young lady sorted our drinks out in a very timely manner. I don't think I could of got them quicker if I'd of gone to the bar. At this point we were told that there was no rib eye and only 3 beef left on the menu. At this point I was thinking oh no. Only 3 beef. Maybe they skimp on the beef. I decided to go with it. So did my wife. Our friends had roast turkey and scampi. Our starters came really quickly. Our mains were not too long after. I was not disappointed with the beef. It was gorgeous. Loads of it as well. They were certainly not trying to stretch out the portions. We had new potatoes, roast potatoes, cauliflower, broccoli, cabbage, carrots and a yorkshire pudding. I would have preferred my yorkshire to have been lighter and harder. All the food was delicious. My wife and friend wanted a pudding but what they wanted was sold out. So as an end to this review my advice would be perhaps book a little earlier than 18.30 so not to be disappointed. The food is so tasty. We will be back.

Stopped here for dinner on a recommendation and were not disappointed. Well stuated by a lock on the canal with narrow boats passing by. Pub interior nicely decorated. Good variety on menu at reasonable prices. Staff were friendly and attentive. Would visit again if I was in the area

Food and service was exceptional. Four of us had a fabulous Sunday lunch here today. Sian, Theresa and all of the front of house staff were outstanding. The pub was reasonably busy but as always the food was quickly served and of very high quality. We could not fault it and it was real value for money. So much so that we booked for our next visit.

Being busy we were sat up stairs where you are clearly forgot about, after having to go and find a waitress to take our order a young lady came to take it. Out with my starter of piping hot chicken wing that were totally FROZEN in the middle, after taking them back down stairs as nobody came up to check . Round 2 of the chicken wing's turned up on the same plate with the same salard and sauce, no apology. The chef ( sorry cook ) then sent up the frozen packet and told the waitress it's already cooked ? What! It's frozen ! I just wanted a sorry and a fresh starter nothing more. Shocking customer service, I did ask the waitress for him to attend the table , but he was busy making our mains which we pasted on the stairs as we paid for the warm wine and left. Will not be going back. I'm a local trades man from the town

Just returned from enjoying a 2 course Sunday lunch and can't fault it. Excellent home cooking with plenty of Vegetables cooked to perfection followed by melt in the mouth apple pie. Lovely relaxed atmosphere traditional pub with friendly efficient staff with quick service at a very reasonable price. Very highly recommended

I was really pleased to find a pub that caters for special dietary requests. I went with a large group of friends for Sunday lunch. I had spoken to the chef a few days earlier and he cooked me a huge piece of salmon as I do not eat meat and made me a diary free pudding at no extra cost. He couldn't be more helpful and understanding. The meal and service were great. Will definitely return.

We had the pleasure of having Christmas Dinner here and all I can say is thank you for a wonderful meal ....we have eaten at the red bull a few times and loved the food and ambience of the place so we booked for Christmas Dinner...the food and atmosphere were both perfect ...credit to all the staff for there friendliness and amazing home cooked food

Just called in on the off chance and found the staff very friendly from the moment we stepped inside to our departure. The pub itself is wonderfully decorated and immaculately clean. The food was homely and plentiful. We will definitely call again.

Love this pub, so relaxed and very comfortable ,spotlessly clean, Ray and Sandra have kept a few pubs and never disappoint, food was hot and delicious, cannot wait for next summer to sit outside and watch the boats going through the lock that is outside the pub with seating , Shall definitely be making another visit .

We have visited this pub before but never had breakfast. We were greeted, as usual, by the pleasant and helpful tenant. We really like the interior decor of this pub and it’s a very pleasant place to eat and have a drink. There is also outside seating right next to the canal and a lovely place to sit on a warm sunny day watching the canal barges going through the lock. We ordered the “Full English” which included tea or coffee which came in a decent sized cup and both were very good and hot. The breakfast was freshly cooked with a good variety of produce, of a good portion and hot. The price of £5.95 was excellent value, especially as it included drinks. We would definitely be back.

I really rate this pub normally but every time they are busier they resort back to frozen chips and packet rice. It’s such a shame because their home cut chips etc are amazing.

Called in last minute for food pub was full but waitress managed to get us a table service was good ordered food expected to wait a while as pub was full. Food arrived about 10 mins later and was very good. Nice refurb to pub well worth a visit and we will call again definitely.

We called the Red Bull at very short notice (15 minutes before arrival) after having been let down by another pub with a table. We were a large group (9 in total) and they were extremely helpful and accomodating. The service was extremely fast and the food was amazing. Would definitely recommend and will be returning in the future.

We booked the upstairs function from for a a group of 24 for a Sunday Lunch, Malcolm the Manager and the Staff were very attentitiv to our needs. Fantastic food , and service. Can recommend it.

I went here with my partner & parents for lunch. The has had a refurbishment and it's really lovely inside. Staff were attentive and pleasant and service was good. We had four great meals and three of us had amazing desserts.Decent prices and we will definitely return.

I had the best mixed grill here for my birthday.You have to order it a couple of days in advance as it is not on the normal menu.Great food and staff.I could not eat this in one sitting so I eat the remainder for my dinner the next day.Lovely fat home cooked chips.Great staff and service. Gristly steak pie!!Chips are nice.Decor nice.Bearing in mind 'Covid times' barmaid possibly landlady, stood behind the bar fertling something out of her teeth, continuously touching her face.Never washed or sanitised her hands before picking up a glass to serve a drink. We've had many Sunday lunches but the Red Bull serve the best, great food at a great price. We are really impressed with the variety and amount of vegetables you get and they don't skimp on the gravy.

We were passing through on our bike ride stopped for a drink and a meal in the lovely beer garden by the canal side. Meals were very nice and reasonably priced, large portions chips were very nice but couldn't eat them all lol will defo visit again.

Got a smoked salmon and asparagus starter, chicken main and apple pie dessert. Wasn't going to have dessert as the portions were so big but they were so delicious we kind of had to. Fantastic. A* would recommend.

My husband and I called in as we were passing and enjoyed a really tasty lunch. The staff were friendly and efficient. Everywhere was clean and Covid protection conditions were still being adhered to. We felt perfectly safe and reassured. The garden by the canal is an added attraction, as watching the boats pass through the lock was quite fascinating. All in all a lovely experience. Thank you.

Meals were really great pub meals. Home cooked chips with steak, that kind of thing. Chips have been changed to what appear to be oven chips though and are no where near as good.

After a long 15 months of lockdown and the slow easing of our restrictions, my husband and I dropped the baby off to my mums house and literally booked in The Red Bull as a last minute treat. It was the most perfect tea time for us! The environment was clean, and covid safe. The staff were lovely, friendly and couldn’t be any more helpful. The food, well…the steak and ale pie was AMAZING!! We took our pudding home as we couldn’t fit it in but didn’t want to sacrifice our sweet tooth later this evening! Thank you for the best teatime! Compliments to the chef and we’ll be back to see you soon!

I'm very aware of the difficulties pubs find themselves in at the moment with new staff after the latest lockdown so when I came over the Bank Holiday weekend, I wasn't too surprised that things were a little slow. However, after visiting again yesterday it was great to see things were back to 'the old norm'. Staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, a new one-way system has been implemented to allow customers to order food and drink directly at the bar to avoid long waits for table service, food was very reasonable and tasty and great selection at the bar. Will be here again next Sunday; thank you!

My absolute favourite place for a Sunday Roast. I had the roast beef, everything piping hot and cooked to perfection. Love it here 👌 very reasonable and grest portions.

Visited today for a drink and bowl of chips which were lovely.The staff were friendly and polite(Josh and Harry)drinks did take a while to arrive but we were informed on ordering that there was a wait.This is due to covid restrictions and limited bar staff,the staff serving were doing all they could to get drinks out as quickly as possible.I will definitely be returning soon to try a proper meal as all the food looked very nice and it was nice sat next to the canal in the sun

Visited the Red bull last weekend only for a drink after walk. We decided to walk again this weekend and this time have some food, did not disappoint at all we had three course and all absolutely delicious me and my mum had the steak pie which was full of chunks of steak the best pie I have had in a long time, my partner had the chicken and leek pudding which he said was amazing and my dad had the Gammon which looked amazing. All amazing value for money and really nice to eat out in the sunshine. All the staff very attentive and helpful, so glad you are back and we will be back for father's day already booked. Ate here in May 2021 during a canal trip. Well kept Robinson's Ales. Fantastic food with that home cooked flavour. Cajun chicken perfect. Steak pie sublime and steak cooked to perfection. The best chips I have tasted for a long time. Staff attentive and cosy feel. Toilets clean and covid friendly.

We stopped outside for a refreshing drink whilst out for a Saturday afternoon walk, it was rather busy considering it had recently reopened. The staff were all busy but also made an effort to be polite and friendly. We were served by a lovely friendly young man "Josh" he was chatty and polite and made every effort to make sure we had everything we needed. The drinks arrived promptly and just what we ordered, we shall be stopping by again shortly!

Nice evening for a stroll and a drink. However waited for I’ve 25 minutes to be served. Went in to enquire if someone could come out to take our order (COVID restrictions) and the lady inside rudely told me to go outside. Waited for a further 20 minutes for a young lad to come who had no idea how to write our order (he did explain that it was his first day). After a further 10 minutes he came back to ask if we wanted large or small drinks despite writing down pints!!! Eventually our order arrived but a quick drink turned into a very long drawn out experience. Ok they are just getting up and running again but there is no excuse for rudeness.

Just had a lovely afternoon lunch here. Food was lovely and the staff couldn’t be more friendly and attentive. The Prosecco was also top quality, and I’m a bit of a Prosecco snob! Very clean and safe environment and can’t wait to go back when restrictions are lifted.

Even though we're local, for whatever reason we'd not actually been here before. I have to say we were really impressed, & after reading marieA1886VO's review, left bemused to be honest. From a Covid point of view it's really well organised. One way system, hand cleansing & Track & trace as soon as you walk in, welcoming, attentive staff & all tables thoroughly cleansed straight after being vacated. Impressive. Of more long term importance (hopefully) the food's really good quality, home cooked fare & great value, & we didn't have meals from the budget menu either. We even queried our bill as it seemed too cheap! It's a nice family friendly atmosphere, nicely appointed & we'll definitely be back soon. Hats off to all the staff!

Visited the pub with a view to dining as we were on a narrowboat passing through, The greeting we got was off-putting to say the least, we were told only 1 of our group could enter and to sit outside, witch under the current circumstances is acceptable. However after ordering the drinks and obtaining a menu I was told to collect my drinks at the bar and carry 7 drinks to the table outside. (Everyware else we had visited in the previous couple of month the staff would deliver the drinks on a tray to the table waring masks). None of the staff seemed bothered about corona virus and were more interested in profit. ALL THE DRINKS WERE SERVED IN SINGLE USE PLASIC GLASSES. When I asked the landlord he said he didn't care and it was easier and promptly cleared all the tables into the waste bins with no regard for the environment. Sat a table away was a couple who had ordered steak at around 18 pound per person,it came with plastic knives and forks but they seemed to persevere with great difficulty. THIS IS A PUB THAT IS USING COVID TO THERE ADVANTAGE. WE had 1 more drink as it was my 65th birthday. SOMEONE NEEDS TO SORT THIS PUB OUT. I visited the rest rooms before leaving there was no hand sanitiser to be seen as we have noticed in other establishments. PEOPLE INSIDE THE PUB WERE NOT SOCIALLY DISTANCED IN ANY WAY AND WERE LESS THAN 2 METRES APART.NOT ONLY WAS THE SERVICE BAD BUT ITWAS THE WORST PUB FOR COVID WE HAD VISITED IN 3 MONTH ON THE NARROWBOAT. The only thing I can say as a positive is the food and drinks looked good. BUT EATING STEAK WITH PLASTIC IS REDICULOUS.

Been to The Red Bull early evening for a meal and a couple of drinks. Brilliant pub/restaurant. Homemade mushroom soup was really tasty, i could of had another bowl full.Both starters and main courses were delicious, all served by very friendly and polite staff, in a beautiful dining room with the view of the canal right next to us. We'll definitely be eating here again. Highly recommended!

Four of us went here for a meal. The pub has been refurbished and looks great, very modern. We felt totally safe as all areas were very covid controlled whether sitting in for a meal or sitting at a table outside overlooking the canal. We had steak with all 4 cooked differently from med rare to very well done and we were really impressed. All our meals were gorgeous and large too, the waitress was lovely and very attentive. Needless to say we would highly recommend going here as great pub with fab food and we will certainly return 10/10

Called in today with family and sat outside looking over the canal, can not fault the service, very safe environment with strict covid policy. Waitresses looked after us well and compliments to the chef. We aqll had different food well presented and all cooked to perfection. Definitely will be visiting again soon, highly recommend

We visited The Red Bull yesterday for our first Sunday roast since lockdown. Safe to say, we were very impressed. Service was excellent, especially the younger blonde waiter. He was absolutely brilliant. The food was delicious and great value. We had 3 courses for just £12. We left absolutely full but we will be returning soon. We are so lucky to live such a short walk away from this fantastic pub.

We visited this pub on our canal holiday. The 4 adults had a roast dinner, 3 huge pieces of meat, giant yorkshire, plenty of veg and cleared their plates. My daughter had a burger and chips, the chips were home made and delicious, the onion rings were scrummy and the burger was huge and delicious. A bitter called Unicorn was a hit with dad.

I get so annoyed when people go out to eat and dont say a word when asked if everything is OK, but go home and slag off the food .SIMPLE RULE >>> If something is not right STOP EATING>>> summon the waiter and explain quietly & politely whats wrong and ALSO say what you would like them to do to fix it. If you had done this you might have had a most enjoyable night out.As for writing " we were too polite to say " Words fail me . :-(I ate there yesterday. I feel quite sad writing this review our first pub meal out since lockdown and thought we would try this place we had the room to ourselves which was good 8 of us in total the waitress didn’t explain herself well and we were a little confused on the offer that was available. Wine also quite limited. When the food arrived it was very dry and didn’t taste great I know it was the end of the day and perhaps not a lot left but it really wasn’t the best...it was not an enjoyable meal for any of us we were to polite to say it wasn’t good so just paid and left..perhaps this pub is more for a stop and drink but would not rate the food sorry!

Had chicken stroganoughwith half chips and rice ,good sized chicken pieces ,nice homemade chips ,friend had beef pie but wasnt keen on the pastry taste ,just a personal prefernce. Staff friendly ,not too long to wait even though it was busy ,will return again to try something else

The food is fantastic - all home made and just delicious. The steak and ale pie and the fish and chips were fantastic and highly recommended - it gets busy in here at times and I can see why. It’s also recently been refurbished to a very high standard.

Recently refurbished the red bull is now a comfortable and stylish place to eat. It isn't an extensive menus but there is something to suit every taste and at reasonable prices. The staff are very welcoming and attentive. We all enjoyed our meal and will be returningPam

Haven't been to the Red Bull since the refurb, it is very impressive, staff are lovely, we had a Sunday lunch, beef, cooked to perfection. Lovely place to eat and drink, can't fault this place.

Was a bit dubious from some of the previous reviews, as the last time I ate there,the food and service was excellent before the refurb, glad to say my doubts were unfounded the food service and whole experience was great, had Sunday lunch beef was melt in the mouth, veg was a bit light for 4 people, but asked for a few more new potatoes not a problem. Would highly recommend and I’m a fussy bugger.be back soon.

My Husband booked 8 Adults and 1 toddler in for lunch for my birthday. The pub has recently had a lovely makeover and we sat at the back of the pub. We had pre chosen what meats we all wanted and we were asked if we were ready to eat.It wasn't long before plates started to arrive with big yorkshire puddings and the choice of mead, followed by dishes of fresh veg. It tasted lovely and everyone enjoyed it. The staff are lovely too - Shall be back

First time at the Red Bull (Bottom Bull) pub since its refurbishment. 6 adults & 5 children. The meal was fantastic as usual, the only difference was how busy it is now. It's a fantastic venue for families and couples who want to dine out. Well worth a try, but please book as it is very busy. There is a real good selection of real ales, all of which are kept perfect.

Went for Sunday lunch, Wow! First time since the refurb. It was lovely, 3 huge slices of roast beef, perfectly cooked veg and a beautiful Yorkshire pudding! My favourite place for Sunday lunch and value for money is second to none. Keep up the good work.

Managed to get there before last food orders after a walk and visit to the pompous bleeding wolf, reviewing next! Red bull refurb is fab, used this place lots in the past as good friends with mart & barb bless her (previous owners FAB).

Went as a party of nine last night. First time and last . Lots of items on the menu not available and then after ordering was told one of the items was not available, so one person had to change their choice. Food when it came was tasty and hot. Never asked if everything was ok during meal or when paying. Would have provided feedback there and then if asked but wasn’t.

We heard the venue had a refurb and called the venue to ask if we could book for Sunday lunch. They had to check with the Manager...the 'call back' was yes if we would sit upstairs. We accepted.

We are very pleased with the refurbished Red Bull. Always been a great place to eat and Drink with friendly and helpful bar staff and this standard has been maintained and excelled with the recent refurbishment. Went in on Saturday for lunch with friends and we all enjoyed are meals. We can strongly recommend the Gammon and the Cajun Chicken. Portions were good - so good we couldn't eat everything so great value for money.

Went with my mum tonight and it was the first time we’ve been since the refurb. The pub has been decorated beautifully, the decor was stunning. It’s still got the same cozy atmosphere but with added oomph! My mum had the fish and chips and I had the beef burger, the portions were very generous. We both then had the sticky toffee pudding for dessert. The food was gorgeous, high quality and home made. I’d highly recommend this pub for any occasion and we’ll definitely be back!

Visited as we heard it had been refurbished - fantastic job, food very generous proportions great price £7.45 Sunday lunch £13.95 gammon a bit more pricey but enormous plate! Accommodated our request really good.

We asked for a plate to put a slice of fat which was supposed to be pork and previously expressed surprise when we asked for more veg as the portion was very small and then charged extra. We were then embarrassed at the bar after paying today by asking us not to come again as we complain too much.Not a good place to go if you want a warm reception and the management obviously don't want feedback and constructive comment.

Went today first time for lunch.I don't normally like pubs with beams olde worlde type .but we did a canal walk last week and people were eating outside and the food looked good so we went today.Lovely greeting when we went in .this. pub is very clean and comes across as a very relaxing place .our order was taken and we didn't wait long for our food .when it arrived it looked so good and it was .my steak and ale pie was delicious, and the home made chips were so good .hubby had the 8oz gammon he was tempted by the 16oz thank goodness he didn't the portions here are quite large.so a lovely place nice staff and really good food what more can you ask for we will return

Came in here with my family after going through a fair few locks along the canal. There is the option to eat outside as well as inside. We chose to sit inside. There was a few things that had been sold out due to it being a busy day (which was expected it was a lovely hot day!) The waitress made us aware of what had been sold out and gave us expectations on food wait which wasn't really long at all. The food was lovely and was washed down well with a pint! The pub is a Robinson's Brewery so you can expect decent beers like Trooper and Dizzy Blonde. Overall a fab experience and if I ever find myself this was again would definitely pop in here. The service from the waitress/bartender was fab, she was bubbly and friendly just what you want!

Came in here for a meal with family after a very wet day on the canal. A warm welcome and a lovely, freshly cooked meal at a large table at the back of the bar area. Genuine home cooked food, all delicious, with generous portions and perfectly cooked fresh veg. Had a variety of dishes from the menu and everyone very happy with their choice. Some pub 'classics' on offer but also some more unusual and spicy dishes. Combine a visit with a walk along the canal, or if like us, you moored up for the night , then its great for a decent evening meal.

Popped in to have a drink while we were visiting the area. One member of staff looked directly at us and ignored us. The blonde lady behind the bar was friendlier. Put us off going back which is a pity.

Since this pub changed hands recently, the food and the beer had improved tremendously. The food is good wholesome home cooking and reasonably priced. The beer is very good too - well worth a visit.

Just been today for a quick lunch service very very good . Beer really nice and again good service . Unfortunately food although big portions was a bit to greasy for me and the Mrs . Chips greasy garlic bread greasy garlic mushrooms greasy . This could be so much better but for the grease as the flavour was very nice . So good luck to red bull hope you can work this issue out

Went to the Red Bull Pub on Saturday night for my mums birthday party, it was the best ribeye steak I have ever tasted, service was great from start to finish. Will be retuning again very soon.

Went to the Red Bull last night for a meal for my nans 70th birthday, there was 16 of us, food was amazing and cooked to perfection, couldn't fault anything, we had the upstairs room it was lovely. The staff were really good and really helpful when we needed something, we can't wait to come back we are already planning on the next meal there, great location right next to the canal can't wait come back in summer to have a drink by the canal. Visited here several times over the past 6 months. I love this quaint pub! Its nice to have a decent local pub at last walking distance from my home in Talke. The food is lovely home cooked and great value for money. We are defiantly becoming regulars. i recommend the steak and ale pie, surf and turf is also good

Sunday lunch today..really good value however, with a little more attention to detail, this proper pub could make a name for itself.

Popped in for lunch after having dinner a number of times. Again excellent food, pudding chips & gravy & hot chicken & stuffing Ciabatta. Good portion sizes, lovely home cooked chips. Just cannot fault the food, is always well cooked & tasty.

Called in for the first time 2 Monday's ago. Obviously didn't expect it to be busy or lively. A few 'locals' at the bar. Pleasant landlord and ordered a couple of pints. Imagine it is nice in the summer months as there is a canal at the rear. Loads of parking and would re-visit again in the future

Took my partner for a birthday treat. Food was excellent. Home cooked and plenty of it !! Lovely atmosphere with friendly staff.

Welcoming pub with a good choice of food. Very reasonably priced & great quality. 3 of us tonight, had fish n chips, steak & ale pie & chicken breast in white wine sauce. All were very tasty, generous portions lovely chips. Is a Robinson’s pub so limited beer choice. Give it a try you won’t be disappointed.

We visited the bull after we had been to a christening and the staff were cheery and helpful, my wife likes her guns and she was recommended to try something new and this went down a treat. I just had standard lager.

Wanted to try this as my wife wanted a treat..so we both were excited. Drove 16 miles and reached 1pm, the pub looked deserted. Parked the car and tried our luck! It was closed, curtains drawn, knocked on the door, no response! Called the number just hoping...no luck! No notice outside, says open. Unbelievable!

A party of 5 enjoyed first class lunches which were excellent value for money. Good selection of beers served by friendly staff. Will certainly visit again.

We had eaten Sunday Lunch here with the MG Club so decided to give the weekend a try. ----We were not disappointed.

Stopped for lunch at this canal side pub. Nice range of beers. Great value lunches, highly recommended.

Under new ownership. Much nicer people. Steak was great but both meals very good. Nice atmosphere. Good choice of puddings. Will go again.

Visited 27th October with 6 family members to celebrate a birthday. A wide choice on the menu, with excellent quality food which we all enjoyed and portion sizes were more than adequate. We all had mains, dessert and coffee and it was excellent value for money. Friendly staff and a welcoming atmosphere made this a really enjoyable visit. We will definitely be going back there again.

Me and the family went for our Sunday lunch in the resteraunt, lovely food here and the best Sunday dinner I've had in a long time, piping hot food with good service and decent prices so much so we end up going here a lot now as its so good ..... You can't go wrong !
