We are a walking group of eleven friends who arrange an annual trip and this year we were pleased to be in the Penrith area We were even more pleased to find a restaurant called Grants at Castlegate. The food and service were excellent and all our group were very happy with all aspects of our visit

I went here last week and gave it 5 🌟 so went again this week. BUT sorry to say won't be going EVER again. Under cooked RAW poched eggs. Asked for coffee with my brunch. But coffee came 10 min before brunch. So had to complain. On both occasions didn't have tomatoes, steak or eggs. But you could have eggs on brunch. You can't substitute your bread for 1 mushroom. You have to pay £2.00 even though your not having bread. Which didn't happen on the first visit. £35.30 for sausage ,egg & bacon plus a coffee. X 2 . NOT CHEAP. The atmosphere is great and so is the service. But it ends there. When complained about the extra charges just got a reply of WELL WE DONT DO SUBSTITUTES & WELL THATS WHAT THE KITCHEN SAYS. WELL this customer says will be never going back. AND will let everyone know. 😘 I see the owner has replied. I did leave a 5 star review the first time , BUT edited it after my second visit. As for the eggs poached we received, you should try them , !!! When you cut into them RAW. AND on a second note seeing as you've kindly replied. Myself and my wife have both been seriously ill Monday and Tuesday, Purley down you your meals. Need I say more, secondary note you haven't mentioned how we had to pay extra for things when we tried to exchange toast etc for an egg and mushroom . £2 for a single mushroom and £2 for an egg. Funny that. The week before we had things changed at no extra cost. Sorry your loss

One of the favourite places in the local area. Staff is super welcoming, friendly, always in a good mood, food is served beautifully, menu is great too. Prices are very reasonable. We come there sometimes only for a coffee which is greatly made, otherwise we come for our regular dishes (full breakfast and smashed avocado sourdough) and every single time we leave happy. Big thumbs up to the staff and purpose of this cafe. Fully support.

Lovely friendly staff, eating area was clean & presented ok, Menu had plenty of choice, the lunch menu was confusing with prices & basic! Food was nice not awesome, more cafe food & restaurant prices. Toilets needed tlc, cobwebs etc actual toilet/wash basin was clean. Good gluten free options. Chairs cold & uncomfortable. Ordered cappuccino which came in a large latte mug. Little details lacking ie the Italian wow but with Italian price tag.

No food these days, but good selection of bar snacks including XL Cheese and the pints of Loweswater Gold are perfect, Usually another real ale is available. Service excellent. Nice crowd, like when I last drank in here in 2010. Prices very reasonable. Will drink & bar snack here again.

A party of 17 attended who had various meals. Found service slightly a bit slow but put it down to numbers of clientel. I did not have a starter as nothing was on the menu that I liked the look of. Main was flat iron steak. Was a bit tough. Noticed there was only one toilet for everybody. Not what you can call hygienic.

We spent the weekend in Cartmel and stayed at this gorgeous boutique hotel in Cartmel. It has recently just reopened after being renovated by new owners and we had a wonderful stay. We dined in L'Enclume and had the complimentary car service transport us to and from our reservation which was great not having to worry about taxis. We loved our time Cartmel and hope to return in Summer and bring our dog with us!
