Lovely hosts and exquisite food. Comfortable and cosy. The menu will startle you. The quality of the fresh ingredients is wonderful. Animal friendly. Just a friendly hotel. Probably dress smartly for Dinner. The bar is well stocked. The hosts will go out of their way to make you stay ver special...Just go to Overwater Hotel. You will go back!

Beautiful night for our anniversary. The lounge and restaurant are beautifully decorated and perfect for an intimate meal. The staff are knowledgeable and friendly without being stuffy. From wine and canapés while perusing the fantastic menu full of local produce to enjoying our meal in the restaurant on an exquisitely set table we had a wonderful night. Just perfect for special occasions or a nice treat.

We enjoyed an absolutely amazing dining experience from the moment we were invited to take a seat in the lounge to leaving to the well wishes from at least three of the serving staff on our way out. The food was simply exceptional; really without fault - from the locally sourced ingredients to generous, delightfully crafted and presented portions. At £55 for a three course menu, and with an excellent wine selection, this is one of the best meals out I have had in a very long time and all accompanied with excellent, unobtrusive and ever-attentive service. I particularly enjoyed the lady who served my cheese course talk me through all of the very generously portioned varieties of cheese with enthusiasm and warmth. I would highly recommend the Overwater Hall Hotel restaurant, even if it did seem a little off the beaten track on a dark February evening. Wonderful!

Excellent food, service and value. A gem in the Northern Lakeland Fells. Good wine list at reasonable prices. This place has delivered consistently very good main courses & desserts for over 20years. Well worth a visit but you need to book !

Top quality ingredients individually prepared and beautifully presented by a kitchen clearly at the top of its game. We ate in the restaurant on two consecutive evenings whilst staying at the lovely hotel. It was good to see that the small, but very well considered menu changed from one night to the other (they don’t everywhere!). We look forward to returning.

Had the best meal I have had for long time. Sensible sized portions nicely presented - but superb as well.

We were staying in the hotel and had a non-resident guest. From start to finish the four course dinner with coffee etc included was fabulous with a wide choice including fish and game rather than the increasingly fashionable compulsory tasting menu. The house Romanian wine was good particularly the red. I was pleased to see there were other good wines by the glass enabling if one so wished to complement each dish appropriately at reasonable expense. A fabulous dinner at 4 times the value of a recent visit to a Michelin starred restaurant. My mixed game and the next night fish dishes were excellent

Dined here on two consecutive evenings. Both meals were excellent, worth the price charged as it includes 4 courses [including a small fish course] and also an amuse bouche and tea or coffee with home-made petit-fours. Slight downside is that the written dress code is not enforced. Residents dressed smartly as required but a non-resident younger man was wearing denim jeans with shirt hanging outside his trousers!

Having very high demands and difficult to please most of the time these days I can clearly state that the dinner at the Overwater Hall Restaurant has exceeded my expectations. The lovely setting, the very well cooked and presented food - I had fish soup for the starer and trout for the main course, my partner had quail and beef steak for the main with Riesling and Chianti accordingly. The service and the ambiance was great. Highly recommended.

An open door with a a warm welcoming staff waiting to greet you by name, really set the mood for our anniversary evening. A quality of discreet service exists here that is so rare today. An interesting, diverse and modern menu of taste and balance that was produced with outstanding precision and presentation onto plate. With an intelligent wine list in parallel with the food really completed a fabulous meal for us, need i say more.....................Yes Thank you .

Exceptional and outstanding tucked away in the beautiful landscape of the Northern Fells. Delicious flavours and beautiful presentation from beginning to end. Faultless service in relaxing and authentic decor. Highly recommended. Stay overnight if you live far away and you will not be disappointed. Can't wait to celebrate again!!

Vorab ein Aperitif in der holzgetäfelten Bar, Erläuterung der Menükarte und dann wird man zu Tisch geleitet - und darf wunderbare Kochkunst geniessen. Uns hat der Aufenthalt sehr gut gefallen, ein wenig altenglischer Charme in einem nicht zu schicken Ambiente trifft hier auf moderne Küche mit lokalen Produkten. Das Personal ist freundlich und zuvorkommend und besonders der ausgezeichnete Nachmittagskaffee auf der Terasse ist uns in guter Erinnerung geblieben. Und der Faible der Eigentümer für Eichhörnchen. Allerdings nur zur Plaisir, nicht zum Essen.

Staying at Overwater Hall, is like going home you always receive a great welcome from Stephen when you arrive. We stayed in room 7 this time, good sized room with a separate dressing area. Dogs are as welcome as their owners with home made treats in the room made by Adrian. Great four course meal and an extensive wine list, what more can you ask for.

Not many restaurants have ever received a 5 star rating from me but Overwater Hall is a well deserved exception. My wife and I stayed at the hotel for 3 nights and ate here ever night. The choice was very good and cooked to perfection. Unlike a lot of restaurants that spend a lot of time on presentation where the food ends up being served barely warm all our meals were served piping hot. The service was perfect and nothing could be faulted. Thoroughly recommended.

We were greeted at the door and taken to a lovely drawing room.This was for a special 90th birthday treat for my aunt.It was special as the personal service we received was fist class.The cakes looked as if they had come from a top class french pattisory .Over hall it was a beautiful experience. Would definitely recommend.

A surprise birthday treat did not disappoint, food fantastic, each course an absolute delight. Service excellent. Ambience gentle and classic, this period property is beautiful.

Pero me temo que me pareció como estar en una biblioteca de todo el mundo hablando en susurros y a mí no había nada de ambiente. Pero reitero que disfrutamos de la comida.

Paramos aquí esperando para comer sólo para que nos dijeran que sólo podía tener una taza de té y una galleta así que fue decepcionante desde un lugar que parecía tan prometedor, vimos una ardilla roja aunque. El personal era agradable, pero el lugar estaba un poco pasado de moda interior para mi gusto

The service here is second to none.....formal but friendly and smart.The menu is excellent as is the extensive wine list. All our dishes were very good and if there was a slight criticism it would be that some of the accompaniments to my main course were not as good as the amuse bouche, starter, fish course or dessert.....but it was so marginal that it was not worth removing a point at all. It really is a superb hotel - if you're reading this don't hesitate to book!

I have been coming to this hotel for the last 16 years or so and I can safely say that it is getting better and better as the years roll on. The service is superb; attentive without being overbearing and discreet without being too stand-offish. I particularly value the fact that they take great pride in sourcing all their ingredients locally.We visited last week and enjoyed some pre-dinner drinks and canapés in front of the log fire and then ate one of the best meals I have ever eaten there, or anywhere else for that matter.I will be certain to return and recommend that you do the same.

If you want excellence on every level then this is the place!From entering the grounds, to being received like royalty, the welcome was just perfect. Beautiful rooms, fabulous ambience, everything as it should be, very high standards.Nice pre dinner drinks and food just wonderful. A real dining experience. Fantastic four course meal, superb host, canapes great, all other dishes delicious with so many different components, fish dish was the only let down as it was just average.The atmosphere here was something that me or her indoors have never experienced before. Very special and I would recommend if you are trying to impress someone. We were escorted to 'the lounge' on arrival for canapes and drink orders, then taken to dining room for meal.

In an idyllic location with brilliant food, exquisitely and creatively presented in elegant surroundings,with genuinely warm and attentive service from the owners. This hotel has rapidly become one of our absolute favourites..

Been meaning to eat here for years. Superb food! Should have visited sooner. Really nice! The food was well presented, superb quality and decent portions. Best food we've had in Cumbria for ages.Not cheap, but worth every penny! Spoil yourself!

We have stayed several times at the Overwater Hall Hotel and the overall relaxed ambiance, superb food and excellent service have never failed to amaze us.Our two daughters and their partners joined us there in 2012 year to celebrate a family birthday and they have continued to comment how brilliant it was and hinted strongly - several times, that any time we wish to invite them again they'll start packing.The hotel is set in large grounds with excellent views and the only sounds you can hear when outside are those from the local wildlife. The question below regarding 'were you here for? does not have a selection for breakfast , dinner and drinks for several days so I'll say that here to complete the picture.

Fine food beautifully presented, excellent service, great choice, good selection of wines, tastefully decorated.Breakfast was slightly disappointing, the scrambled eggs and salmon could have been presented better.
