We visited the cafe on our trip to Vindolanda. Great cafe with nice treats, very good coffee, and service. They have a beautiful terrace and the day we visited it was perfect outside so we were able to sit out and enjoy the weather and the gardens. Beautiful views of the gardens and the sound of a river flowing through. We loved our visit . Thank you for the great service and beautiful location.

The best named cafe in the area but sadly far from the best cafe. That they don't serve cooked eggs pretty much sums it up.

Personal service, great food. We were the only two in the restaurant, cannot understand why! Had an amazing bottle of Hermitage red wine.

Fantastic 2 night stay, Simon, Vicky and the rest of the staff made you feel very welcome as soon as you met them, locals in the bar were like family. Lovely clean rooms, comfy beds, good price. Lovely home cooked food, massive portions! Proper traditional pub , full of character with open fires. Perfect location for Beamish museum & other attractions , will definitely be returning

Breakfast sandwiches were great, wrap was a little small but all tasted lovely. Well priced and very clean inside with very helpful and happy staff!

Visited Thursday i love dogs but this visit was unpleasant! Two dogs started proper fighting with each other! Quite frightening. Getting to bar stepping over dogs and dog bowls! Don’t know how waitresses manage with food in hands! Once it quietened down someone else came in with 4 small dogs! I don’t know how people feel if don’t like dogs. The manager actually apogised to the other dog owner! (As i think one of the dogs his)Nothing said or apologies to us! So disappointing as been coming here for years! Dont visit if you dont like dogs!

This sandwich shop used to be brilliant but after the change of management it has really gone down hill. The food is delicious and the staff are amazing but the owner inflated the prices overnight! A panini now costs £6.00 after advertising £4.90 paninis literally 6 days ago (14th Aug) on their Facebook! You also have to pay for salad and toppings separately, now. It's £7.50 for a meal deal (sandwich drink and snack) when it used to be £5.20. They weren't strapped for cash either. People literally travel into town for their food and they have a 13-floor office building literally on their doorstep. The line for BAPS would be out the door and around the corner. SUBWAYS is cheaper than here.

Nice lady serving got the lunch time special kebab butty with chips and gravy but part of the kebab was cold and other hot nice chips though

Excellent place for lunch, unusual options, plenty of vegan choices, dog friendly - perfect! I couldn't finish my lunch and I'm greedy, a top notch feed! Kind and friendly staff, will definitely go again very soon.

Came for a family meal on a very busy Saturday. The fish curry was excellent ! Lovely bright restaurant with sea views and great service ! Can’t wait to go again 😢

A return visit as really enjoyed previous trips, brought friends to sample it but unfortunately this time it felt very very overpriced for what we had. We opted for several small plates for 4 of us as we were spoilt for choice and the specialboard read so well. The 8 fresh oysters to begin with were delicious. This then followed with prawn salad / cocktail, lacked flavour and not really enough sauce a small extra amount was brought when asked. The Scallops off the special board again were hot and fresh and tasty. Another special Cajun whitebait served on a flat bread with salad really did lack flavour, very little whitebait and the batter was just too thick, not good at all, it was more bread and salad than fish unfortunately. Pil pil prawns were very tasty, nice big shell on prawns. One main issue was we did feel very slightly rushed as the food arrived nearly all together but as the table just wasn't big enough to hold the food it was a balancing act. What a shame but we feel it now has top restaurant prices but unfortunately a cafe style atmosphere.

Great food and great service. Would highly recommend. Will definitely go back next time in Durham. Really enjoyed our visit.

Great atmosphere. There are lots of boardgames to borrow, a huge chess board and they do pub quizzes. Food is American diner style and the portions are huge. Dog friendly.
