Fabulous little cafe based at the mining museum. A small but prefect menu with very reasonable prices and friendly staff.

This is a great little cafe if your in the area of upper Weardale. The food is quite basic but well executed. The bacon sandwiches are really nice! The choices are enough for to keep most people happy and the staff are really friendly. Well worth a visit.

Popped in for a cuppa and was tempted by the bacon sandwiches. Good choice. The tea and sandwiches were first class and inexpensive. Great service too by the lovely ladies on duty today.

Cheap and cheerful! Me my brother and great auntie went to the the north Pennines as a nice little day trip and found our way into the doors of this marvellous cafe, firstly it was dog friendly which pleasantly surprised me! We got in and almost straight away we’re served it the service was amazing. My auntie ordered a black Americano for £2.85! It was just coffee and hot water. She also got I think a pastie, I and my twin got a brownie each and I got a hot chocolate. The brownie wasn’t up to my standards per say but it wasn’t too bad the hot chocolate on the other hand was quite good. We then went and had a sneak peak into the museum which was a little Victorian house it was quite nice especially for being free! It was in the middle of nowhere but there was still a few nice walks and it was absolutely amazing. It is always nice to be out in the middle of nowhere breathing in nice natural air. Although quite steep so I don’t advise you to go up if you aren’t good on your feet!

Popped in for a quick walk to see squirrels, and grabbed a cuppa before closing. Though at end of the day, nothing was too much trouble. Cake divine. Great find ~ we will be back

Love visiting the museum attached to the café. Haven't been for a while and are looking forward to seeing Pip and eating her very good food. Extremely surprised to find the café opening 30 mins after the museum and ... no Pip. Café is now operated by Durham County Council. It's basic. It's empty. It's typical council. But, the cheery staff more than make up for the poor café.

So we came here in hope of tea and cake. The vegan tart we bought was 3 days.. and a month out of date. The chocolate cake was okay but tasted store bought and burnt, the tea was great since it was Twinings. At least we got it all at a reasonable price right?? Very wrong, it came to £10 and I nearly dropped on the spot, that much for 2 cups of tea, a skinny piece of cake and a tiny tart.. One of the tables was taken up by paperwork and after 5 minutes of standing at the till someone finally came to serve us. Another note, if you’re disabled/in a wheelchair don’t waste your time especially if you need the loo. And if you need to change your baby, be prepared to be sprayed in the face by the air freshener right above the changing table 😊😊

Just had cake and coffee/hot chocolate whilst waiting for the lead mine tour. Simple stuff but couldn't have been done better - excellent coffee and a super range of fresh cakes. All very reasonably priced too.

This cafe is part of the lead mining museum but you can visit it without having to pay for museum entry. It is a perfect stop off point if you are driving through upper Weardale. The roasted green pepper and ginger soup was one of the most delicious soups I have ever tasted plus they do a soup and sandwich deal and the sandwiches are lovely too. I can also thoroughly recommend their date slice.

Ate here whilst on day visit to the lead mining museum; a rare sunny day for this summer made our visit even more pleasant. We were able to eat our lunch outside at the large round table. Lovely light lunch served by friendly staff who couldn't have been more helpful.

Excellent menu choice and sensibly priced; however beware - they do not have a card machine and only accept cash.

Visited the cafe in August this year. The breakfast was lovely and the staff very helpful (even getting a book for my six month old little one who was starting to get a bit grumpy!). Very nice experience, thank you :-)

We had a naming day for our baby daughter Lucy in the on site yurts. A large group of us stayed overnight and were offered an early opening time in the cafe for breakfast the following day. Breakfast was a multi course feast and we were made to feel very welcome by the staff who had came in early especially for us. We had porridge to start and as much hot toast as we could eat. Our tea, coffee, juice and toast were continually topped up as quickly as it had gone. We then had our choice of delicious hot breakfast baguettes. We had had a fantastic day, evening and night in the yurts topped off with a lovely farewell in the cafe. Thank you to all who went out of their way to ensure we had the best possible time and leave with lasting memories of our time at killhope.

Used to be superb a few years back, home cooked and served by lovely staff. Last time the food was stale, and we felt a little ill afterwards. A real shame, it was a nice stopping off point for a hot bacon sarnie whilst touring the dales (no need to visit the museum)

Popped in for a bite to eat and a drink. Both dog and baby friendly. Nice and quick for food to come out. Ordered some cheese on toast which wasn’t on the menu for our little one and they very happily sorted this out and provided childrens cutlery and plates.
