We booked two rooms as we were attending a family party locally. The rooms are spotlessly clean and of a very high standard throughout . The breakfast was delicious and the customer service was great from the moment we arrived, to the moment we checked out. We look forward to visiting again very soon .

Called in here on Sunday intending to have a meal but were made to feel very unwelcome. Staff looked stressed and were not particularly friendly. We were charged £2.40 for half a pint of blackcurrant cordial with tap water! There was only one table with available seats and it did have cutlery on it, but as there was no where to stand we sat there. We were curtly told that the table was reserved and as another couple left we were ushered to their vacated table. One of the servers trampled on my friend’s foot and never apologised or even acknowledged it. We sat feeling very uncomfortable while the staff discussed their private lives right beside us. We will not be returning

We got there, after a nice drive, before 12, and we were lucky to hit it, before its’ busy period, where you might need to queue, it’s very popular. I’d just glanced at the cakes passing, and saw lots of cherries, and I did chose the gluten free cake, which I wouldn’t have minded, but the kind man recommended the Paradise cake, which was full of cherries, with coconut and dark chocolate base. Very indulgent, but delicious, and worthy of being my breakfast replacement, with milky coffee ( not Latte) , which a little bit delightful Husband, likes a white coffee, and was equally delighted with his unexpected coffee pot and milk, son very happy with his delicious looking baked potato, beans and cheese with salad., and a nice can of san pellegrino fruit concoction. Really nice staff, lovely surroundings, cakes could be tempting to buy and take home, and that is an option I believe. I intend to try a a sandwich next time, as a good sandwich is worth driving for, and hard to find these days, I’ve heard mention a lemon chicken and parsley ? Is something to look out for

I have been recommended this place by a few people and always wanted to try. Staff were very accommodating and managed to fit us in at the last minute on a Saturday night. Service was great throughout and the food was ok but really nothing special. I was left quite confused about the price tag, maybe you are paying for the location? The cooking of the meat was nothing flash, vegetables rather tasteless and a severe lack of sauce and gravy on all three dishes that we ordered. All meals were very dry. There are much nicer places to eat for cheaper in the area so I would not recommend. I also did not appreciate the 12.5% service charge being forced upon us at the end. This is not America and waiters here are payed a similar wage to a newly qualified nurse in the NHS, therefore I only like to tip an amount that I feel is deserved. You don’t have to pay the service charge and we just payed a proportion of it.

After a fantastic meal here on the Saturday night (fish n chips and the open steak sandwich) we returned again, the following Friday. This time we both had the Manor Inn burger. Fantastic food yet again and possibly the best burger I have had in a long time. Staff were fantastic and service was outstanding.

Stopped at King's head for one night with friends whilst doing coast to coast , I found the landlord Phil and his staff very friendly who went above and beyond in accommodating us , we were arriving late and Phil kept the kitchen open for us to serve a very nice Sunday dinner and fish and chips , the bar was very friendly with a good choice of drinks at very reasonable prices , the rooms very clean , they may be a bit dated but I think that adds to the charm , and a very nice full monty breakfast next morning to send us on our way on our last cycling leg

We went for afternoon tea after our time at the spa. What a wonderful experience it was. The customer service we received from Cristian was second to none. He was polite and courteous, and nothing was too much trouble. It is, sadly, unusual to receive this level of customer service nowadays and I cannot praise him enough. The sandwich selection was traditionally but tasty, scone’s where fresh and the cake selection was delicious. Thank you, would definitely recommend.

This is a review based on the food (Friday night) as I didn't stay in the rooms... After a few years absence I visited The Anchor in Whittonstall with a friend who had traveled up from down South earlier that day. I have to say I was very impressed with the food. We had goat's cheese and and chicken liver pate as our starters and both were surprisingly large for a starter. Both were very nice. That was then followed by fish & chips and chicken curry where the rice was substituted for chips. Again, both meals were large and very tasty. I usually prefer to make my own curries which are so hot they aren't of any interest to the rest of my family and while I resisted the urge to ask if I could have a bowl of chopped fresh chilies at the side I found the curry to be amply spiced, with creamy sauce and well cooked chips. The fish and chips my friend had was a really good sized fish and plenty of home made chips. The cost for the meal (with a couple of pints each) worked out at around £36 each which admittedly isn't the cheapest but the meals were great quality and very tasty - I'd rather pay more for good food than less for poor food so I'd definitely recommend The Anchor as a good place to eat out. We were both pleasantly impressed. I can't comment on the rest of the menu since I'm not Mr. Creosote - I can only eat so much and I was VERY full when I'd finished. My friend did not finish his main course and I was gutted at that since although his fish looked very nice I had no room for it and the remains had to go back. The service was fine and I didn't catch the name of the young waiters but both male and female (or whatever they identify as) servers were attentive and had good banter. Although I'm local (1 mile away from The Anchor) I would have had no problem posting a negative review if the experience was negative. But it was not and I will definitely be going back at some point in the near future. The sad fact is that food, service and drink now costs way more than it did before 2020 but this is one place where you get what you pay for. Recommended.

My family went for afternoon tea for my birthday. Tea arrived early but was not hot. Then we were left for 45 mins my son went to ask why we were not served , they had forgotten us and there was only 2 other guests. The vegetarian option included a tuna sandwich, the sandwiches were soggy and nor exciting. The small cakes were probably bought in. The scone was ok but had raisins in which my two grandsons disliked. All in all a dreadful experience. The toilet was of poor standard. The carpets not really clean. I expected so much more from the adverts.
