Very welcoming staff and local customers. Excellent choice of food available. Food was served promptly and was of excellent quality.

Had a wonderful evening meal, the food was delicious and plentiful and reasonably priced. Although the pub was busy with mainly locals we were given a warm welcome and our dog was given plenty of attention. Good pub menu with a specials board and good choice of beers and cider.

Excellent room lovely and clean service was fantastic plenty of continental breakfast to go at would not hesitate to book again if in this area again thankyou all the staff rose and crown

Lovely, friendly village pub.. greated with a smile. We ordered a steak pie and chips, my other half had the Chicken burger.. the food was absolutely delicious. I can safely say that's the best steak pie I've ever had. Would definitely visit again if we are ever up this way.

What a wonderful place! We received a warm welcome at this Community Pub and enjoyed the busy ambiance with a combination of locals and visitors. The Sunday menu was fairly limited but the 1, 2 or 3 courses for a set price represented excellent value for money. All the food we had was great and the portions were generous. The service was received was excellent - friendly, polite and everything delivered with a smile. We would definitely recommend this pub and if holidaying in the area again would certainly return.

Very positive experience at this “community pub” with a very warm welcome and good quality home cooked food at sensible prices. The only reason a 5 star rating was not awarded was although the main pub area had a good atmosphere, the restaurant section decor was somewhat dated and slightly detracted from the overall experience

We went there for Sunday Lunch after just coming across the pub. Food was lovely and the staff were so friendly and accommodating. Couldn't have done much more to help!

What can I say, Anthony and the team are beyond wonderful. A large group of us descended on the village a couple of weeks ago for a wedding. The R&C fed and watered us on the Friday night (excellent communication on the run up) and with very little notice (i.e. the same day), did the same on Sunday evening. Not only this but the quiz was so much fun, they made us feel so included, and it was the perfect was to round off the weekend. The food is such good quality and they serve it with excellent chat and a smile. We can't thank them enough for being amazing!!

Yet again we took our time travelling south from a week in the Borders, so that we could be in time to stop here for an early evening meal. Again we weren't disappointed, as the greeting was excellent, as we hadn't booked, which clearly we should have done because they squeezed us in before all the bookings arrived. Excellent service and excellent food, (including a warning that the spicy pulled pork burger ' had a bit of a kick' which it sure did!), the chicken haggis with pepper sauce, was very peppery too, along with a great beer and an excellent glass of wine, and a great honeycomb cheesecake, and plenty of treats and love and affection for our old dog for free. That was £45.

We booked dinner here as a change from Slaley Hall and what a fantastic choice there was on the menu with additional specials for both starters and mains. Atmosphere was lovely and staff very friendly and helpful. What a lovely place to come to, a real gem to find and it has the most awesome selection of desserts to finish off with and all available with custard as well 😁😁😁 syrup sponge was so so good

Very friendly community pub with good food. We (5 lads on a walking week) used it twice, good real ales and plenty of choice. Nice view from the restaurant.

Arrived and shown to the table we had booked and pleased we did as in no time it was full.Drinks were ordered and the menu with an extra 6/8 dishes on the specials board gave us plenty of choices I shared the prawn starter with the wife which were very nice for mains I had awesome steak pie chips and peas with gravy the wife had a steak which was cooked to perfection her only gripe was she wasn't keen on the chips yet I liked them so depends on your taste I suppose.A great selection of puddings were on offer i had hot chocolate sponge and ice cream and helped finish the wife's Devon cream sponge both very nice.So if you want good proper pub grub with friendly staff and excellent service this is the place for you.

I don't really like to write a negative review and actually this is the first time trip advisor has let me down going off reviews. I don't know how there are so many reviews about great food and very reasonable prices as that certainly wasn't our experience. We had a Sunday lunch here and opted for the whitebait starter. I was served 5 pieces of whitebait absolutely caked in batter, so much so that I thought I was being served sardines, but actually it was whitebait, just you really had to find it in the batter, massively OTT and not how I'd expect whitebait to be served. Then onto the mains. Partners pork was dry and I'm sure my beef was pre cooked sandwich beef, it certainly wasn't freshly carved beef from a joint. We also ordered a child's Sunday lunch and was shocked to be charged £10 for what was half a meal. It shouldn't have been more than £7 for a child, absolutely no idea where a £10 charge comes from, disgrace. I came here based on the excellent reviews and the restaurant was full! I can only assume the localpeople are easily pleased, certainly not what I expected and definitely wouldn't return.

Lovely community-owned pub in a village setting, with good food and a warm welcome. We visited twice for lunch and would come back again any time we're in the area. The staff were very attentive, and the food was excellent. Prices were very reasonable.

Excellent Fish and Chips and great atmosphere. We went back the next night even though there was loads of choice elsewhere, it was good enough to draw us back in.

So my partner and i were staying at Slayley hall. They were useless for helping us get a dinner reservation. We chose the nearby pub and it was an absolute treat. The effort they put in to dinner and service was amazing. We had a really gorgeous meal and will go back there in a heartbeat if we are in the area. Very well priced, very friendly. Not a bad word to say really. Couldn't reccomend this place high enough. If you're staying at Slayley Hall, definitely give this place a try.

‘’Twas the night before New Year’s Eve and we’d chosen to eat at the pub in the village near to where we were staying at Slaley Hall. I wasn’t that sure about booking here but I’m hugely pleased to say that we all enjoyed the food and hospitality. The initial welcome was as warm and friendly as was the service and complimented by really good pub food. Make sure you are hungry because the portions are plentiful and full of flavour. Well worth a visit if you are in the area.

Went for Sunday lunch with my brother, great food, we had traditional Sunday lunch (roast beef, Yorkshire pudding and all the trimmings) good choice on the menu including Venison stew. As per normal excellent food and service. Cannot fault the food, I had chicken and haggis wrapped in bacon with a peppercorn sauce. I chose chips and peas, but it does come with boiled potatoes and veg. The Christmas menu is out and is great value for money. Suggest booking early, we have.

Visited on 15th October 2023 for Sunday lunch. 15 minute drive from Hexham in a beautiful location. Pub itself has wonderful views from the dining area across the fields. Very cosy pub, not olde worlde but traditional pub from the early 20th century. We went for Sunday dinner and the food was wonderful. Sunday roast which was served in a timely manner and was delicious. Yorkshire pudding with your roast and the carrot and turnip was superb. Very good menu and very, very reasonably priced. Good selection of drinks and deserts. Apple crumble was superb. Staff super, super friendly. Cannot fault the place at all, highly recommended.
