had Sunday lunch here today for the first time and it won't be the last. The staff make you feel so welcome, it's a lovely proper pub and most importantly the food was absolutely perfect one of the best cooked lunches I've ever had and two (great)Yorkshire puddings had to be a bonus! Sticky toffee pudding is great too and my cousin had the crumble which he said was fantastic. We will definitely be back. perfect location for us as my cousin lives in Carlisle and I live in Newcastle so halfway for us, hoping to make it our new regular meeting place .

A friend and I stayed in the Red Lion as an overnight stay on a short break for a Hadrian's Wall adventure. Beautiful pub and village, very friendly and helpful staff and management. Meals dinner and breakfast were good value for money, well cooked and presented and catered for diet and vegetarian requirements. Rooms were spacious and overlooked the village, quiet and peaceful.

This is clearly a popular spot and with good reason. Heading for Newcastle we stopped off for dinner. We were seated quickly in a nice spot. The menu had a great selection and it was easy to find something to suit us both. Leek and potato soup as an appetizer was substantial and very tasty. We then opted for steak and ale pie and chicken Caesar salad. Both with fries. Absolutely delicious. Very obviously fresh and cooked from scratch. Nice atmosphere and excellent service. Would return in a heartbeat. What a find,

My husband, daughter and I stopped here for lunch on our way to Hadrian's Wall. All of us agreed that our meals were absolutely delicious and of outstanding quality. I had the steak and ale pie which was amazing! I can honestly say it was the best I have ever had. Large succulent pieces of steak, rich and flavoursome gravy with a puff pastry top. My husband is a big fan of lamb so went for the hotpot. The minted gravy completely elevated what was already top notch! The kids' fish fingers and chips were more 'fish bites' which our daughter preferred. Again cooked to perfection. The location is simply stunning. Wonderful views in a serene location. Top service from the lovely owner as well outstanding food. Thank you!

We spent a Friday night at the Red Lion in order to visit Housesteads fort along Hadrian's Wall - it's also near Chesters, another HW site. Newbrough neighbors make themselves at home in the pub and are very friendly to strangers. Both our dinner and our breakfast in the restaurant were wonderful. We were sorry to learn that tourism has been a little slow due to consistent rains - but we had sunny weather and a great view of the sheep across Stanegate! Hugely comfortable room and no noise leaked through from the downstairs pub. I'm so homesick for this place!

Out of this world food We go every month or so and have the belly pork. I had to tell the chef/ owner it was the best in the world … problem: I never order anything else He told me he had a customer who said the same about the beef pie. So I tried the beef pie. Verdict : as I said to my friend the chef … the beef pie is only eleven out of ten - the belly pork is seventeen out of ten Also … the soufflé is the best in the world too Great little village with nice walks, great beers, lovely staff I wanted to keep it a secret ….

Headed over and we were welcomed to a lovely bar area, as we had dog with us, which was fine. Drinks were ordered and very nice. Meals also ordered, inclusing starters. The homemade soup went down well with a nice crispy bread roll. and the Pate was lovelly. Mains there were 2 dishes mainly Steak and fries and Salmon and pasta, both were well received and in the steak respect cooked as ordered. Overall it was very friendly and great food (Dog even got some crisps from one of the locals :) ) Would highly recommend paying a visit.

We were a party of four and came for lunch on a week day. The menu was short, but the food was very impressive. We thought the steaks were particularly good and very well served and garnished. Plainly, there’s someone in the kitchen who cares a lot about what he or she is doing. The wine list was again short, but we were pleased by the NZ sauvignon blanc and the Italian cabernet. Service was a bit slow, but that’s understandable if a small establishment is doing things properly.

Just went in for lunch, not sure of accommodation services. Lovely choices on menu and food was delicious. Staff were understanding of a disability and attentive to adjustments if required. One chicken goujon sandwich, one posh fish finger sandwich and one Steak & Ale pie with mushy peas. All with hand cut chips. Fish fingers and chicken goujons were freshly battered and more than adequate portions. Delcious. Chips were best we have had for a long time. Heaps of beautofully braised steak in pie and the tastiest gravy! Can be accessed from front (main high street) or rear (through beer garden, outside of which there are multiple car parks). One of our party struggles with mobility and had a four wheel Walker. Both entrances have access ramps and although a few steps, there is a hand rail available and were manageable for her. Definitely recommend. Will be back.
