Met a friend and had a fantastic sausage sandwich each. Lots of other things on the menu, and it's worth checking out their cabinets with lots of pies and cakes.

Lovely relaxed atmosphere. We hadn’t booked a table but they managed to squeeze us in. Nice place that we stumbled upon on a longer roadtrip. Very friendly people at work and we were especially glad to find some proper vegan options on the menu. Never been here before and pleasantly surprised. We had a table for four in the main cafe area. Staff were pleasant and friendly. Orders taken quickly, food & drinks followed within minutes. Good selection on lunch menu, we opted for sandwiches, wedges and toasted bread, very tasty meals and huge portion sizes. Quite expensive lunch, costing £65 for four people. Will probably return if we’re in the area.

I visited alone with my dog, which is where my problems came in. You can’t take the dog inside and you can’t order at the outdoor tables. I asked someone to ask for someone to be sent and the team members ignored me at the table. I could order when a fellow customer offered to sit with my dog so I could order. A shame as the meal was delicious. May be you could think on how to deal with this in future.

The produce is wonderful, but the service needs re-thinking. It’s doesn’t flow and slow. Why not having one person making drinks, and one serving behind the counter and others to serve the tables? Having someone serving, then disappearing to make coffees etc is very frustrating. There were several disgruntled people in the queue, and several leaving. I remained positive and friendly with the thought of enjoying the wonderful food on offer. However the woman serving me, seemed preoccupied with other things going on, and when I left I said thank you and goodbye twice, with no response from her! Not really good enough!!

No one can dispute that the food is extremely good, great variety and quality, and very generous portion sizes! However, on the day we visited again, service was extremely slow, slightly chaotic and a lot of staff but didn’t seem to be at all coordinated. Quite by accident, while researching family history in Felton we passed by The Running Fox while going back to the car. We went in and bought some lunch for our forward journey .. the food was exceptionally tasty .. the brie and bacon flan was to die for and my sis had a veggie fritatta which was stuffed with an assortment of different veggies .. huge portions .. good selection of savouries and cakes in stock .. excellent service (and patience while I kept changing my mind!) and not expensive. I recommend people to seek out 'The Running Fox's cafes in Northumberland and try the food .. mmmmmmm .. JB Devon

60th birthday spoilt by belligerent dog owner who after being told only assistance dogs were allowed, she suddenly had 2 assistance dogs.....which barked and were unruly, and she fed from the table.....clearly NOT trained dogs. I have enjoyed 4 dogs in my lifetime and can say all were better trained. An establishment that has a No Dogs Policy should respect customers who book it on the understanding that they don't wish to eat with dogs.

Dropped in for afternoon tea, based on a recommendation. Not too crowded for a mid-week stop off, and the place was inviting and cosy. The amount of food for afternoon tea was enormous (reflected in the price), and one between two would have been more than enough. The cheese savoury sandwich had so much salt, it was literally the worst I've ever tasted in my life. Such a shame, because the bread was lovely. And both the pie and quiche slices were also overly-salted, which detracted from the taste. No check back during the meal, to even highlight this. Nice cakes, and boxes provided to take away what was left, if so inclined. We wouldn't return for afternoon tea (or perhaps anything savoury), but would buy cakes if passing.

Popped to take away pies and pud before we lunched at the Northumberland Arms. Very busy but queue went down quickly. We bought a slice of steak pie and corned beef pie and two Bakewell tarts. Just had the pie (steak for me and corned beef for my mam) with a few oven pomme de frites, peas which have been mashed up during the pre-canning process and a splash of gravy. My pie was full of chunks of beautifully braised beef. Adorable pastry. If my pie was a woman - or more specifically a blend of woman - it would be Anita Rani with a dash of Julia Bradbury. Mam described her pie as ‘lush’ which is high praise indeed, and thought her pastry was ‘excellent’ and the portion ‘generous’ The Bakewells couldn’t be any nicer.

We visited for lunch on Monday 26th February 2024. Note you will need to book ahead. The choice of food and drink is extensive. We opted for the £12.50 pp 'special (Mon-Thurs only), which we thought would be perfect for a 'light' lunch, described as a small cup of soup, small sandwich and any 'Foxy' cake. We couldn't believe our eyes when it arrived, and genuinely thought they had got our order mixed up with another. A large cappuccino size cup of delicious home-made soup, accompanied by a massive sandwich each, and cake still to come! Soup was accompanied also by containers of croutons. As expected, we managed the soup and half the sandwich, with the very friendly waitress boxing our left over sandwiches and also the delicious cakes. We had them later in the day. This was absolutely fantastic value for money, and top rate food (we also purchased seperate coffees, which were also very good). TOTALLY RECOMMEND! Everything else being served also looked lovely.

Just went in for lunch, not sure of accommodation services. Lovely choices on menu and food was delicious. Staff were understanding of a disability and attentive to adjustments if required. One chicken goujon sandwich, one posh fish finger sandwich and one Steak & Ale pie with mushy peas. All with hand cut chips. Fish fingers and chicken goujons were freshly battered and more than adequate portions. Delcious. Chips were best we have had for a long time. Heaps of beautofully braised steak in pie and the tastiest gravy! Can be accessed from front (main high street) or rear (through beer garden, outside of which there are multiple car parks). One of our party struggles with mobility and had a four wheel Walker. Both entrances have access ramps and although a few steps, there is a hand rail available and were manageable for her. Definitely recommend. Will be back.
