Nice cafe with a good range of food and cakes and friendly staff. My only criticism is that there are too many customers with dogs. One large dog tried to stick its nose onto my table and the owner, rather than apolgise, thought it was amusing. There should be a 'dog free' area of the cafe or, better still, dogs only allowed in outdoor areas.

I popped in for a quick lunch and a coffee. Unfortunately, they didn't offer lattes, which I really wanted, but they did provide a free alternative that didn't quite hit the mark. I had a jacket potato with chicken, but it was underwhelming, and the place was drafty and cold. Although I didn't complain and the staff tried hard to get everything right, the lack of coffee options available at other coffee shops was a bit of a deal breaker for me.

Visited with elderly mother and daughter, the owner and staff are superb, affable, genuine, and full of local personality. The lentil soup was superb, and blast from the past ham and peas pudding stottie was top of the bill. It’s a place that showcases the best of our local area!

Definitely a highlight of our week, we popped in while travelling, and were so glad we stopped. The interior is spectacular and immaculately clean. I was astounded at the array of cakes, first thing on a weekday morning. Everything was fresh and delicious (we weren't meant to be eating, but rude not to when someone had gone to so much trouble!) Lovely friendly service, all good.

A group of my friends booked a table. We were guided to an outdoor table behind the building. There were menus at the table. All the listed meals had a cost of £10. The owner made a note of our orders plus drinks. The drinks were delivered quickly by a waiter. The meals were very warm and we did not have to wait long before they were delivered. The waiter asked if there was anything we needed which was not on the table. To pay our dues we went to the counter inside. Service again was quick and efficient. On the counter there was a magnificent display of what I would call home-baked cakes. You could order pieces of these cakes to take home packed in a small white cardboard box. Everything was quick, efficient and well organised.

We’ve been coming here for many years as it’s a lovely spot, but today we were really made to feel so unwelcome by the man that was working there, I just had to leave a review (I never normally do this). What a joke of a reply to my reasonable request to turn down or turn off the loud music. No server was shouted at! The moronic response " well I like it and so do the customers" speaks for itself. Glad we went to the Lord Crewe Arms for peace and quiet. Served by very good waitress who was studying at University. What a contrast.

Called in on a rainy dull day and was greeted by a lovely warm welcome into a beautiful and bright building. My friend had her dog with her and the dog was warmly welcomed too. When we were seated the dog was brought some treats and water along with the menus for us humans. The menu has a lot of choice from savoury to sweet and includes an imaginative choice of vegetarian food. My friend and I both picked the cauliflower and three cheese pie which was served with baby roast potatoes, coleslaw and chutney. All of the food is home made on the premises including the chutney and coleslaw. The piece of pie was delicious and huge. We still managed to choose a piece of cake each though from the selection of 23 cakes that were on offer today and even bought treat boxes of cake to bring home for our families. I can’t recommend this place enough and will definitely be visiting again

We've been visiting this place since it opened and always found it a relaxing place to be. Unfortunately, since their redecoration, they've chosen to place speakers around the rooms so you're now subjected to the likes of Cardi B whilst trying to relax and chat to family or friends. The place doesn't feel as cosy and relaxed now and the prices have gone up. The food and drinks are still nice, but they need to choose some relaxing music and turn the volume right down so it's in the background rather than dominating every space.

We love this place and go at least once a week for the pea and ham soup. So unlike some pleased it is always on. There is always another soup on though but it’s pea and ham for me all the way. It is served with a roll (no cheese!?) The staff are great, make such a fuss over our dog (Max) they’re so accommodating I’ve no doubt if you requested cheese and bread with soup they would oblige. £4.95 for the soup made by the staff on site … you can’t get any fresher. The corned beef pie is to die for ..IMO if you’re wanting a fantastic peaceful day out this area is so beautiful and a sneaky lunch or a piece of cake or two from here .. well why not if you’ve earned those calories… So pleased to see everyone again after the lockdown it’s been so awful for all especially hospitality…so please keep your P&H soup going it’s one of the main reasons (as well as the CB pie and cakes!!) we come !!

We visited whilst staying nearby at Slaley having been a number of years ago. Wow - what a transformation. The tea room is beautifully decorated and warm and cosy with a log burner. It was immaculately clean and we felt very safe in the crazy Covid world we currently live in! There is a fabulous range of teas served in generous tea pots (I had vanilla chai) and a homemade cake selection that are so good, I’d consider driving down from Edinburgh for! I struggled to choose as all my favourite cakes were there (including Victoria sponge, coffee & walnut, lemon, lime & coconut, flapjacks.... cake heaven) and I really enjoyed what we had. There were a number of hot food options which all looked nice and were reasonably priced. I regretted having had lunch elsewhere as the special of the day was a homemade quiche that sounded delicious. The only thing that could have been better, and it really is a teeny thing that we didn’t feel we could mention as everything else was absolutely perfect, was the hot chocolate. It tasted like instant and was very watery. An easy thing to fix I’d say, if made with proper steamed milk?I also bought some little jars from the pretty displays around the cafe. There are some really nice gifts that were really good value. The same things would easily cost twice as much back home in Edinburgh. The owner told us their Christmas gifts stock has just arrived and will be going out soon. The couple who own the cafe were really friendly and we chatted about their recent renovation during lockdown - the end wall of the building was completely papered in individual book pages and took 5 days to do!! We spotted a few Charlie and the Chocolate Factory pages which our 9 year old enjoyed. Sometimes you find a lovely place in the middle of nowhere with really nice owners that really deserve to do well. This is one of those places. Make it top of your list to visit if you are in the area. I’m sure you will enjoy it as much as we did.

Visited this cafe as a pit stop on a bike ride. It has a huge menu- which was great as it has "a bit of everything " - from snacks and light bites to lunches. Nothing was noticeably vegan or marked vegan on the menu, but I didn't dismiss this and I'm pleased didn't. I enquired to whom I assumed was the manager and he was honest and admitted very limited choice as majority of food is cooked and baked using butter - but as far as good customer service goes, he was brilliant and very accommodating, making the best out of the situation. He was friendly and inviting, and suggested we could pick any plant-based foods from the range of different options on the menu from other meals and he would put them together to make a meal for us. This type of service is what I'd class as going 'above and beyond', and for this reason we will definitely be returning. Very refreshing experience, with a great atmosphere and happy customers.

Soft greys, simple lines and quirky touches -such as walls decorated with individual pages from books -invite you in to this lovely clean safe environment. You can also sit in the garden with well spaced tables if weather allows. The covid protocol is reassuring and dogs are welcome. Delicious home made quiches, sandwiches and light meals. Cakes are lovingly made every day on the premises, all of which makes this a great place for walkers, cyclists and anyone visiting the pretty village of Blanchland. Looking forward to our next visit.

I have been going to this well-known Tea Room for years! Yesterday, I enjoyed Afternoon Tea in a well-controlled and safe environment. Having a garden outside, with tables and umbrellas, adds to the excellent management of customers.During Lockdown, Ian has decorated the interior with excellent taste in colour and design. The menu has a wide choice and I have never been disappointed in my meals here.

As a regular visitor from South Shields for many years delighted that the tearoom has re-opened. Owner has taken the time to refurbish and what an excellent job done. Retained the old school image but brought right up to date with décor and furnishings. All set up to ensure safety against covid-19. Manager very friendly, very efficient, no waiting around, staff also excellent, new menu, very good choice and special deal on take away delicious cakes. Can eat inside or out in a patio area. Brilliant location for the village, parking nearby.

Such a lovely find. It has been a while since we visited Blanchland and since our last visit my husband has become completely wheelchair dependent. The wonder catered for this beautifully and moved chairs to allow comfortable and safe seating spaces. the place is clean, follows all the Covid rules and the food was lovely too. we had 3 separate cakes, lots of coffee and thoroughly enjoyed reading the book pages on the wall. going back soon to take my elderly mum who also has access needs.

£5 for 2 small teas served in one pot with no spare hot water!!Taking a lend I feel. The scone was tasty but came with a single 7gm butter pat.Come one at these prices you can afford to be a little generous. It will cost you next to nothing but will placate the accusation of you being tight. It’s a pleasant place and the chap serving was friendly, so come on!!More competition needed in Blanchland.

My husband and I visit this delightful tearoom often and stop in the middle of a long walk with our dog who is always welcomed inside. If the weather is fine you can sit outside, but if you are dripping wet or freezing cold there is sure to be a log burning fire and a warm welcome. My husband says that the cheese scones are the best he's ever tasted, I love the chocolate cake and our dog always gets a small dog biscuit served on a small saucer. The best tea room in a lovely village with the warmest of welcomes.

12 of us from our cycling group on a bike ride stopped her for lunch. In a beautiful location. We rang in advance.Cannot book a table but they did put a large table aside for us. Space to put bikes front and rear. Place is warm and interesting inside. Food was great quality. I had the stottie with ham and pease pudding, salad and homemade coleslaw. Proper cooked ham so it filled you up. Cakes were great. Coffee and tea was proper. This is what you want when you have been out in the surrounding hills. We all thought it was great. Staff really helpful and friendly.

Have been here many many times. Always clean and friendly. Visited on Sunday and had a bowl of soup and a bun. £5.50. Soup didn’t really have any taste but even if it had £5.50 for a small bowl of soup is not value for money

A lovely venue on a cold day with snow showers. The hot drinks and food made us reminisce and smile throughout our time there but also on our way home. Pease pudding and ham in a stottie filled a belly but so did the ham, bubble and squeak plate pie.

Called in today for soup and coffee. Very warm welcome and cosy tea room. I had pea and mint soup and hubby had tomato and red pepper served with rolls. Both delicious. Great choice of cakes to finish with coffee. The tearoom is under new management since last year and they have certainly made big improvements. We will be back.

The White Monk has a new management which I feel is changing the ambiance of the place for the better. The menu is at the moment a little limited but the food is very tasty and well proportioned,. I particularly enjoyed the mushy peas that looked bright and fresh, and the home made chutney with my corned beef pie. The cakes are delicious and are in their own glass containers ( important with dietary considerations-nuts et al), as well as keeping them fresh. The staff were very friendly , helpful and willing to chat with customers. Having an outside garden will be great (when it stops raining!).

Great start to the New Year with a lovely lunch here and a massive thumbs up to the new addition to their delicious pie menu; the new bacon and bubble n' squeak pie with cheese pastry is completely yummy and rivals our family's regular favourites of cheese and leek and corned beef - choices worth the drive from Newcastle to enjoy, as is the friendliness and warmth of the lovely staff. We really look forward to our frequent visits.

My wife and I come here about twice a year but if there was an alternative café the White Monk would have to pull its metaphorical socks up. The food is very average and as veggies we find the cheese used in toasties etc is very mild and lacks any flavour.I liked the look of their warm leek, cheese and potato pie with baked baby potatoes, mushy peas and chutney. It also had a bit of salad. My wife had a cheese toastie on wholemeal (which had a malted flavour). The pie was a thin plate pie with soft pastry and tasted strongly of leek. The pieces of leek were too large and didn’t appear to have been pre-softened or were past their best by. There may have been cheese and potato in the pie but this wasn’t apparent. The “baked” potatoes were very soft and mushy. The peas were too sweet. My wife said that her toastie lacked any cheese flavour. The whole meal was less than average with prices set higher than other Northumbrian cafés where we have enjoyed good food. The café is dog friendly which I totally disagree with in any establishment which provides food. Visiting the toilet I had to forcibly move a dog, with my crutch, which was on a too long lead and jumping up at me.

Today I visited the White Monk with my daughter and just wanted to say what a lovely tea room it is, the building itself is lovely and when you walk in there is a lovely fireplace and just to side there is a lovely garden area. I had a lovely quiche salad for my lunch and my daughter had chocolate cake and we both enjoyed what we had very much, the prices were very good and we were spoilt for choice by all the lovely homemade cakes on sale. The staff were all very friendly and took an interest in talking to us and our dog and we even got free dog treats for our dog. The atmosphere, food, friendly staff and the fact we can bring our dog with us makes this tea room a winner and me and my family will definitely be back again.

The selection of cakes was extensive and coffee was tasty, a warm pleasant atmosphere, the surroundings were unique. The chocolate and cherry gateau with meringue and cream layers was yum.

Played today, Mon 26th August, Great layout, but sadly the greens are diseased and awful, and the tee boxes are terrible, very expensive bar, and no food being served, even though there was a competition on, and the bar was busy, Sadly one to miss in the future.

We visited Hexham yesterday and found this café in the Market Place, after a lovely River Tyne walk. It was quite busy at 1pm but we didn't have to wait long for our table. The girls made us feel very welcome and worked so hard while we were there clearing tables and getting everyone seated as soon as possible. My husband had a bacon sarnie and I had a ham and mushroom omelette which was so light and fluffy, delicious. Coffees were great too. Plenty of choice on the menu and great prices. Doggy friendly too with a treat for pooch 🐾

What a welcoming, hospitable place. If you ever need cheering up, this is the place to go. We were made welcome immediately, and tony the owner had us in stiches from the start. Everyone there were so friendly, and what had started as an intended short visit, led to us staying to closing. Met some brilliant characters, who all just made our day. Dog friendly too, which was an added bonus to us. Can't recommend enough.
