Dropped in for coffee and a cake. No parking problems. Good coffee and a range of home baking. A great range of fruit and vegetables for sale. Outside seating available with relaxing views of the village church and green. Prices reasonable.

The pub itself was nice, clean and friendly. We hadn’t booked a room but the had one free. Unfortunately the kitchen had already closed for the night 7.15 pm but I asked could we just have a sandwich then. They shouted for us to come down when it was ready, they had made us a cheese toastie The bread was barely warmed through and the cheese hadn’t melted. Nothing else on the plate at all for garnish. When we got the bill the next morning, we were astounded to see the toasties had cost £9.95 each.

Unfortunatly, most of the comments on here are true. The place has such potential, but the lunch today was just sandwiches as the electric was off, and dinner was a limited menue and I heard the owner and the chef discussing how quick they could get me served and out from the the kitchen. Whilst I was in, they turned a couple away saying tonight was food for residents only......I'm not a resident, they either can't be bothered, or don't have the capacity. Great village, great looking venue, but very badly mamaged..

Called in for a drink en route to Edinburgh Military Tattoo. Sitting in the bar I was (gently) admonished by owner for having our 13 year old Jack Russell Terrier on my lap. Fair enough if that is their policy. Enjoyed this delightful village so much we stopped again for their annual carnival three days later . Ordered drinks from the pub during the afternoon and proffered my card. The barmaid tut tutted but nevertheless took my payment. Apparently they ‘preferred’ cash. A few hours later returned to the pub for the same again. One lager and a diet coke. Mindful of the card problem I asked if card was ok, the chap behind bar said card was fine The charge was £6.80. For the next order I was even more uncomfortable about paying by card so we scrabbled around for cash at the bottom of my wife’s handbag. We eventually collected £7.00. The owner/manager served me. “£7.25 please”. I laughed and said that the last round was £6.80 and we had struggled to find our £7.00. She said - “well, the pint was £5.00 and the coke £2.25….” OK I said, I don’t have £7.25 and offered my card. I repeated that her staff had charged us £6.80. She said they were wrong. She took the £7.00 saying that the card machine is not working because it is a bank holiday (!). (In that case - put another sign outside stating ‘cash only’ - it is not difficult.) She then returned two £1.00 coins as they were ‘old currency’ - this was news to us but no surprise as they had lurked at the bottom our ‘change’ bowl for many years. Of course, we were left feeling like fraudsters. To our generation, that is a very uncomfortable feeling. Disgraceful management which soured our experience of the most beautiful of villages. Whatever happened to ‘the customer is always right’? - for the sake of .45p!!! We shall never return. I am sure she will be delighted.

We were staying 4 miles down the road with no local amenities and were looking for a traditional local pub for a drink and bite to eat. We initially popped in on the way home from a day out to have a quick drink, and check the place out. The bar staff were super friendly, happy to give us a menu to look over. The drinks were reasonably priced and the atmosphere was very relaxed. We returned in the week to meet some family for lunch, even though there's not a massive choice on the menu, everyone was able to pick something and the food when it came out was delicious (home made pie of the day was a winner for 3 of us). We went back a final time for Sunday lunch, and again service and food fantastic. We had sat outside on the green to start, having drinks whilst the kids played footy and worked up an appetite. What's nice is they also have a coffee and cake bar, if you just need a snack and they also have a place for cyclists to leave their bikes whilst they visit What we can't understand is why it isn't busier, we're from the South of England and a pub like this local to us would be rammed every day. Well worth popping in if you in the area

We stayed overnight for our 55th wedding anniversary and were delighted with our choice. The pub has obviously recently been refurbished and we found our cosy bedroom and shower room to be very comfortable and immaculate. One of the most comfortable beds we have ever experienced! When we arrived in the pleasant dining room for our evening meal we were greeted with complimentary glasses of Prosecco to celebrate which was unexpected and most welcome. Welcoming is one word I would use to describe our whole experience. The breakfast was continental only but was beautifully presented and served with excellent coffee. The pub is ideally situated to cater for both walkers and cyclists and caters well for both. Outside there is even a bike service station with tools and tyre pump. Inside thee hungry visitors can indulge in bacon butties and a range of cakes. As mentioned before the coffee is excellent and there is a large range of options to choose from. Outside to the front there is a pleasant seating area on the green and to the rear of the building another sheltered and sunny seating area to enjoy a drink or meal. All in all a pub we would heartily recommend.

### Review: Bird in Bush Restaurant Our recent experience at Bird in Bush was deeply disappointing. Three days ago, we visited for afternoon tea, and despite the lovely setting, the service was poor—they forgot our tea for two order entirely. While we hoped this was a one-time mistake, it left us apprehensive about our upcoming dinner reservation. When we arrived for dinner, we discovered that our reservation, made three days in advance, was not in their system. To make matters worse, we were informed that they only serve food to residents on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays. This crucial information was never mentioned when we made our reservation during our previous visit for tea. Indeed, when we booked the Wednesday dinner reservation, they made a point of taking my telephone number, so why didn’t they call and tell me Wednesdays are off for non-resident guests? Although the member of staff offered apologies, she continued to serve and chat to another customer across the bar instead of trying to deal with our booking. This left us frustrated and disappointed. The combination of forgotten orders, lost reservations, and unclear dining policies is unacceptable. Bird in Bush needs to improve their service and communication significantly. Until they do, I cannot recommend this restaurant. Look elsewhere for a more reliable dining experience.

I wish I lived in Elsdon!! Stopped here while on a bike ride and so glad we did. The cyclist special, sausage bacon or egg barm and a drink, it hit the spot and as for the rocky road, best I’ve ever tasted. But it wasn’t really about the food. The staff were fab. The owner and her 2 staff were welcoming and friendly, made us feel at home from the second we walked in. I can’t recommend it enough, well done ladies! 🥰

As a cafe/pub, I would give Bird in the Bush a solid 4 stars. If I was a cyclist on a ride, I would love this as a midpoint rest stop. However, as a restaraunt/hotel, I'd give it a 2 stars. The evening food was very disappointing and the staff, bless them, didn't seem to be on top of anything. They gave another couple room keys to my room and when asked about gluten-free food options (as prompted my the menu) they had no idea. Additionally, our room wasn't cleaned thoroughly with dirt on our bathroom floor, dirty bath taps and small bits of litter in the corners of the room.

A delightful little pub with accommodation.. which I didn’t sample or sadly the food, but they are just sorting a new menu which sounds scrumptious. They serve local beers including their own, and I sampled the Gorse Flower beer and another very flowery beer on tap. I also learnt a lot about the colorful local history, which included fairies, witches, and even ghosts... and know I had not drunk too much beer. You’ll certainly be welcomed with open arms and like me will want to return.I just hope on my travels I will find a welcome in more pubs like this.Big plus too in current times by the way, everything including the loos were very clean.. thanks a million for the stories and the beer and I will be back

Visited for Saturday dinner. Not busy. A short menu but a good range offered, including one vegetarian at each course. Everything seems to be prepared on-site. Delightful scallops and stunning garlic gambas. Lamb perfectly cooked with a traditional collection of vegetables - a plateful the way your grandma used to do, except these are properly cooked. Delicate seabass and a wide variety of home made ice-creams. Traditional puddings, including a BAKED cheesecake. Rather restricted range of wines by the glass. Staff (and other customers) very friendly and welcoming.

Everything a pub should be the owners are so friendly and accommodating in fact all the customers are too. We had Sunday lunch which was excellent I had duck and my sister had roast lamb followed by homemade baked cheesecake and homemade ice cream which was delicious. My only regret was that they only serve food on Friday Saturday and Sunday so as we were staying in the village for a week we returned on Friday to find the restaurant full but had a bar meal of the most amazing rack of ribs and chips and my sister had an omelette. On complementing the ribs I was told that the pigs and ducks were locally owned and were fed on the “mash” from the on site brewery. No wonder they were so good. Altogether a charming village pub and restaurant which belies its looks and is well worth a visit. Or two or three.

Such a friendly welcome which was lovely as we'd booked a table for food that night. On our return we had a lovely choice of seasonal home cooked food, menu on a blackboard as it changes constently depending on what is in season & available to the chef. Three in the group had the steak with trimmings & gave it 5 stars & I had the most succulent venison cutlets. Starters were available but we all went in for the main kill as the desserts looked to good not have & we weren't disappointed with fantastic apple crumble. Highly recommended, well done :)
