Ordered a chicken salad more fruit than I expected and small portion for price not what l expected 😞

Very friendly staff. Comfy room with lovely view out. Delicious, large breakfast with lots of choice.

We stayed in the wooden cabin in the garden. Excellent spacious and so clean. The breakfasts were tasty with good sized portions. We ate evening meal once; the choice of meals is extensive and the food was delicious. Special thanks to Kayleigh and James. So friendly and welcoming. The patio in front of the cabin needs a gate to make the area private and secure. We will be back. Thoroughly enjoyed our visit.

Maybe it’s time to move on. The owner is obviously out of money or very tight: mould on bread rolls, sandwiches already made-up before service, no table orders taken, very poor and inflexible menu, low staff numbers, reluctant refund, very shabby all round …. and yes there is a nice view 🤷🏻‍♀️

Wow, I looked at the 4 star reviews before I posted my review, surely they are rating the wrong eatery. I can’t give 10 stars but if I could, I would. The quality of food was outstanding, the portions were very generous and the service was excellent. The view whilst eating outstanding is amazing. Best food I have eaten in Northumberland and that takes some doing. Would highly recommend a visit. Top of our list and we will definitely be back to sample the outstanding cuisine. Thank you to all the staff who provided an excellent dining experience.

Lovely atmosphere, good food, great service and dog friendly.

We were staying locally and this pub was recommended to us by the cottage owner and a couple of locals I chatted too. This is a good traditional local pub with separate bar and restaurant areas. With a dog we had to have dinner in the bar area which was perfectly fine. The staff and service were excellent and, as for the food, it was fantastic with a vast menu choice, and the biggest kids menu we have seen in a long long time! The beer garden to the rear of the pub was beautiful overlooking the valley Simonside hills, a real gem! Highly recommend and suggest you book ahead to avoid disappointment! Great value for money too. Enjoy!! 👌

Never had such wonderful service from all the staff, so polite, friendly and helpful. Food choice excellent. Definitely need to book if visiting during the holiday season.

Amazing Sunday roast for a very good price.

We didn't stay here we just ate in the restaurant. The staff were friendly and efficient, the service was very quick. However this was not our sort of place. Any where offering the size of menu as here can't be offering home cooked food. It has to have been pre prepared. The food we had was ample and tasty but just not to our liking. We were obviously in the minority because the restaurant was very busy and you must book. It's very good value for money.

Lovely lunch, great views of the simonside hills we were concerned about the large size of the menu but the roast meal and the Cumberland sausage were very good but surely some of the fish menu must be frozen

We called in on spec Thursday evening, 4 of us, and were made so welcome for food. Service and our meals were fantastic. Another 7 colleagues came Sunday and said exactly the same. Thank you so much.

It's a long drive from Sunderland, but the views are lovely if the weather is good. We used the tunnel as the A1 is an absolute nightmare at the minute. Down to 1 lane going south. Unbelievable! We all went for the carvery. Good choice of meats, with all the trimmings and veg. All cooked to perfection. I would think 2 slices would be enough for most people. I couldn't manage a sweet but those who did loved them. The Eton mess looked lush ! The staff were very nice as well. Lovely seating area outside with an amazing view of the hills. Be well worth a beer outside if it ever stops raining. Thanks.

Decided to have a meal here instead of in Rothbury. Wasn't particularly good, or even a generous helping. Anyway, went to pay our bill at the bar. Standing there, no one else at the bar - then when staff came to the bar, ignored me as two locals just turned up at that moment. Saw to them first. Won't put up with that, won't be back ! Monday 29th April , late afternoon. A female member of staff.

Went in for a drink . But food looked so good went back following day. And food and service was great, will be going back soon. Have been back again and food and service was great again there chips are the best.

We rang in advance to book for Sunday lunch as we were holidaying nearby. It turned out to be a wise move as the place was packed and we would not have been able to eat if we had not booked. The lunch was a carvery and was priced according to how many meat slices you wanted. The slices were very generous, the vegetables were really nice. The service was well organised and ably coped with the number of guests. Desserts were excellent. We would be very happy to eat there again if we were in that area.

We stopped for a main meal while travelling through the area. The food and service were excellent. Highly recommend having a meal at The Three Wheat Heads Inn.

We stayed for 2 nights bed and breakfast at a time when our boiler had died on us. The place is spotlessly clean. The staff are all lovely. Had evening meal too the food was really really good I definitely recommend this little piece of heaven.

The food here is always gourmet. This time we all had cod & chips. Wow so lovely especially the chips which were amazing! Cannot recommend enough.

Lamb was nice, chips were massive, ( I prefer normal size) Braised beef was over cooked and like eating cardboard, the mash could of done with butter in it Desert was decent, chocolate fudge cake and ice-cream

A fantastic village pub. We stayed overnight as part of a walking trek. The staff and owners were very friendly and accommodating. The bar area was cosy and very warm with the log fire blasting (lovely), we had a few beers (some good choice) and then some superb food, freshly cooked and the portions were huge. Room was perfect with a great view of the countryside, breakfast was also really nice with local tasty sausages and also a large portion. Overall a great stay.

Very warm welcome on arrival. Friendly service from the young lady who took our drinks order. The chap who takes the food order (in our case, the carvery) was all smiles and the bloke on the carvery tools (and most important staffer of the day ;-)) was chipper too. Everyone we encountered was welcoming and friendly. As Marco Pierre White himself states, that’s important. We booked for the 12:00 service. Arrived bang on, and the dinning room was stuffed full of customers. Their plates were full of delightful looking carvery, and the room was alive with feasting. The view onto the Simonside hills is, simply, stunning. The process is you sit. The staff take and deliver your drinks order. Then, entering stage left, the chap takes the food orders. As the carvery has different charges depending on how many ‘slices’ of meat you want, it’s the most pragmatic way to do it. Then, when the carvery is ready for you, you are advised to make your way up. The range of meats looked wonderful. Pork. Beef. Ham. Turkey. Lamb. You can mix and match depending on how many ‘slices’ you’ve ordered. Mam went for two ‘slices’ and had one turkey and one lamb. Your boy had four ‘slices’ made up of two each of pork and beef. They are plated up and at this point you’re offered two large roasties, two ‘new’ potatoes, a stuffing ball and a large Yorkshire pudding. Then, you help yourself to potatoes that have been mashed up, three gravy (mint, onion, and ‘meat’), and your condiments like mustard, apple sauce, mint, cranberry and so on. You then return to your table with your food to feast. Then, the server brings out a dish with broccoli, cauliflower, carrot, turnip and peas. That’s your veg. The carvery was excellent. My mam said it was the best carvery she’s ever had! High praise. Highlights included the gravy, mash, mam’s lamb, my pork, and the puddings. In terms of volume the four ‘slices’ took some effort to conclude :-). Mam’s two slices looked large to me! Really good value. We were very happy to leave a nice gratuity. Mam said the lady’s was super clean. The car park out front gets full very quickly and you’ll see double parking. I was blocking a car in and I queried that with my hostess. She said it’s perfectly normal and staff will announce when someone needs out. That actually happened to me and chef loudly queried who owned the [make, model, colour]. No dramas. Just everyone making do We will be back.

We stayed over at the pub. They were incredibly accommodating and friendly, providing us with an airbed so our family of 4 could sleep in a 3-person room, at no extra cost. The breakfast was delicious the next morning and all staff were helpful, friendly and polite. If we're back up visiting friends, we will stay again. Thank You :-)

An amazing village pub which has a great menu. Very large portions of freshly cooked food served by the very friendly staff Rooms are available,so ideal to stay the night after enjoying a lovely meal and a few drinks . Stopped for a Sunday lunch. Very good value for money. Foid was piping hot and fresh tasting. Impressed with the 6 different cuts of meat. The staff were friendly and attentive. It was my very first visit and I will certainly be looking out for it again when I'm in the area. The beer garden to the rear has the most splendid view whatever the time of year.

I have stayed here a couple of times now. It’s always lovely and clean. All staff are so friendly and make you feel welcome. The food is delicious. I stay out of season when it’s not the best weather outside and that log burner was so welcoming after a long walk. I will definitely be back hopefully before Christmas. I call this place my bolt-hole 😉 I would definitely recommend this place.

We planned to go for some food. We walked in to the area where dogs are allowed and there was no atmosphere whatsoever. There were a few tables with people, but we just decided to stay for a drink as we didn’t fancy food to the atmosphere.

We haven't been here for such a long time and decided to call in today for Sunday lunch.I must say it was superb, the choice of 4 different meats and how many slices you would like was really good.The veg was served fresh and cooked to perfection .A nice touch was the offer of minted gravy. Everything was flavoursome and plentiful.A really old fashioned touch was the addition of chocolate mints for your coffee, much appreciated .All of the staff were friendly and super efficient in a busy time .£10 for 2 slices of meat and £11.95 for 3 slices is absolutely fabulous,it just melted in our mouths . Well done for keeping your prices down and not compromising on quality and quantity .

Saw the menu online and was impressed so went to try the place. Lovely traditional Inn, warm and welcoming on a rainy day. Sat in the restaurant by the window and what a spectacular view! Stunning! I had veggie lasagne, the wife had sizzling chicken in a tomato and chilli sauce. Both were very nice and good portion size. Lady that served us was very pleasant so all in a very nice lunch with a stunning view in a lovely place. My wife was really impressed so browny points as well. We'll definitely go back next time we're in the area.

We hadn’t been here for quite a while so thought we’d pop in. We arrived at 11.30 and were told meals weren’t served until 12.00 by a very friendly waitress. My husband ordered the Greek style lamb which came with roast potatoes and a selection of vegetables. The lamb melted into his mouth and the sauce was rich and tasty. I had the balsamic and sun dried tomato monkfish which came with rice and was absolutely delicious. You could taste the honey in the sauce and the balsamic vinegar gave it a slight kick. We couldn’t resist dessert and my husband had the sticky toffee pudding with ice cream and judging by the clean bowl and speed it was eaten, he thoroughly enjoyed it. I went for the fruit pavlova with double cream. The fruit was caramelised and the meringue was perfect. Including 2 cokes the bill came to around £53. For the quality of the food it was great value and we will definitely be going back soon.

Just stayed at the log cabin for one night, so impressed with how beautiful it is. It was everything and more with its own private patio with table and chairs also sun loungers,we hit lucky with the lovely sunshine. The cabin is so clean and very warm with radiator's in every room,TV,tea and coffee making facilities lovely king size bed (so comfortable). The staff were very friendly and helpful especially the owner Gail ,even bringing our evening meal and breakfast to our patio to enjoy the views while eating the amazing food. Couldn't fault it at all and we have already booked to stay again.

Travelled quite some distance to visit but how very disappointing! NOT as dog friendly as advertised. Dogs only allowed outside or in the bar area. Service was shocking! Waitress shut us down after bringing drinks when we asked to order food. She went off muttering something about getting her notepad. Food was very bland. Only positive was the big portion size. So I came here last week,sat at the rear of the restaurant near the glass windows Lovely spot,great service lovely meal ,very attentative .
