Stopped in for breakfast on the way to do a walk at Kielder. Loved the place. Fantastic , well cooked , quality breakfast. Decent size and good value at £10.50 including toast and a brew. Couldn’t fault the food. One of the best breakfasts we’ve had. Ticked all the boxes for us. Dog friendly. Liked Falstone so much did a walk from there instead of Kielder and came back to the Old School for dessert. Bread and Butter pudding with cream or custard ! Although I was tempted by the Old School sponge. Thank you for a lovely experience

Almost missed this. It’s on the corner in falaf one village. The sign said “old village school”. But it is actually the falstone tea room. Small but clean and tidy inside. Not a vast menu but there is choice. Ordered earl grey tea with soya. Hubby had black coffee. Ordered veggie breakfast and veggie sausage sandwich on brown bread. Drinks came quickly and food not long after. Lovely tasty sausages and brekky was tasty and fresh. Not massive portions but enough. They have a small selection of goods ie sauces kitchen rolls toothpaste tea bags etc. also sell locally made craft items which were very lovely to look at. Sauces on table. Table service. Not huge amount of tables but wasn’t overly busy Monday morning. Very friendly customers !!! Not too expensive and really enjoyed it. Wud definitely visit again if in area

If you're headed to Kielder Water, don't use the visitor centre for refreshments. A very short detour to Falstone where you'll find this great little tea room serving drinks and light lunches. The cheese and ham toastie is especially good. A friendlier welcome from the staff would be hard to find.

Always visit the tea room when holidaying in the area as the choice and quality of food is great, we were dissapointed this time however. We called a few times to find it closed , when we finally managed to catch it open we were disappointed at the lack of food choice, however what we had was lovely. There is a lack of staff due to covid which is understandable. It hasn’t put us off returning in the future.

Somewhat off the beaten track, but across the road from the Black Cock Inn, which is a well known pub in the area. Nice open room with the food counter at the back. Nice little local enterprise housed in a former school with the main cafe in the once school room. The venue and the toilets have been subject to some architectural design intelligence with wood pellet stove, photo voltaic cells strung together in a glass roof and some nice detailing fusing the old with the new. I had the vegetarian lasagne with chips and salad and my husband had the ploughmans with their own home cooked ham which he said was delicious. Even the choice of cheese had been given some thought. The kiwi cake was one of the best I have ever had; so moist and different. There is a lovely picnic and sitting area just over the road so you could get a picnic to take away. We arrived at the Old School tearoom by walking 3 miles down from Tower Knowe car park on Kielder Water. First stop was therefore to pay a visit to the eco conveniences. With a glass roof, solar electricity and rainwater collection for flushing this is ecotastic. However the best bit is the food - we had great bowls of tomato and lentil and butternut and sweet potato soup followed by white chocolate millionaire shortbread and coffee cake respectively. All was splendid. They do decaf tea and decaf real coffee, and provide extra hot water for your tea. Sit and watch the sheep and horses in the fields and the daffodils if you hurry up.

Such a shame having reAd the previous reviews we were looking forward to going, but sadly the staff ruined the experience. We asked for 2 cream scones 1 arrived minus any cream we waited thinking another was coming and it didn't , I enquired and the lady had only taken it down as one just a mistake so asked and paid for another and mentioned that there was no cream about 10 mins later another scone was brought to the table no sorry no nothing. And still no cream for my husbands scone so asked again with a roll of the eyes the young lady went away and another 5 mins later came back with the cream. There's a nice hot fire to sit in front of and the cafe is very welcoming of walkers with muddy boots / wet clothing, as well as dogs.My friend was quite hungry and so had a macaroni cheese, but I just wanted a toasted teacake and a cup of tea. The hot drinks were great and my friend really enjoyed her macaroni cheese, but unfortunately my teacake was cold. (I think they were probably waiting to bring it out at the same time as my friend's meal, but they should have timed it better). In addition to the food and drink, they have information on the local area, including details about a walk to local artwork, The Stell (worth doing). Played today, Mon 26th August, Great layout, but sadly the greens are diseased and awful, and the tee boxes are terrible, very expensive bar, and no food being served, even though there was a competition on, and the bar was busy, Sadly one to miss in the future.

We visited Hexham yesterday and found this café in the Market Place, after a lovely River Tyne walk. It was quite busy at 1pm but we didn't have to wait long for our table. The girls made us feel very welcome and worked so hard while we were there clearing tables and getting everyone seated as soon as possible. My husband had a bacon sarnie and I had a ham and mushroom omelette which was so light and fluffy, delicious. Coffees were great too. Plenty of choice on the menu and great prices. Doggy friendly too with a treat for pooch 🐾

What a welcoming, hospitable place. If you ever need cheering up, this is the place to go. We were made welcome immediately, and tony the owner had us in stiches from the start. Everyone there were so friendly, and what had started as an intended short visit, led to us staying to closing. Met some brilliant characters, who all just made our day. Dog friendly too, which was an added bonus to us. Can't recommend enough.
