Lovely venue , a bit chaotic in the restaurant but staff very busy and quite young , trying their best to please everyone which was amazing . On the first evening food was excellent even better on second evening . Next morning the breakfast serving dishes needed replenished but we were late sitting down so get up early . However lots of choice in everything else . We got up early the next morning and breakfast was amazing . Our room had the most comfortable clean bed ever. The room was quite outdated , an orange stain on carpet next to the bed . Ripped wallpaper and quite a few battered edges on furniture . Bathroom door had the worst attempt of varnish on what looked like ply wood . Told there was a mini bar there wasn’t . We weren’t really bothered as the staff were amazing and our room was just somewhere to sleep . Venue had lots of beautiful snug lounge rooms and a great bar . Golf course looked amazing too. Spa was very clean and a pleasure to use the next day . However the reception should tell you a £1 is needed for locker or £1.50 by card . The road is getting a bit rough and pot holed around the venue , found some lovely woodland walks . Would definitely go back

We’d eaten in the Claret jug a couple of nights previous - which wasn’t good so we were dubious about eating in the main restaurant in Slaley hall. Anyway, we were pleasantly surprised! We had an amazing waitress called molly, she was knowledgeable about all the dishes and the wine. She let us sample a couple of wines before buying a bottle and she had a great personality too. The food was delicious!! My daughter loved her steak pie and I had crab to start and sea bass for main, it was delicious! I would definitely recommend and come back again.

This was one of the worst dining experiences of my 77 years. The service was almost non-existent and it took over 2 hours to complete a simple meal of soup and fish and chips. The soup to be fair was good and piping hot but the fish was so undercooked as to be translucent. Had we wanted raw fish we would have found a sushi bar. The other meal was a pork schnitzel which was just OK, but not good. The kale or whatever the greenery was, was so tough as to be inedible. We would have had a desert but had run out of time. Overall the service was very slow (they were not very busy) and unprofessional, but not unfriendly. They compensated for the raw fish by refunding 50% of the cost of the dish but rather spoilt that gesture by taking that off before applying the 10% entitled discount for lodge occupiers. I would not recommend this place as we were aware of several other less-than-pleased customers.

We have stayed several times here and tbh never had any problems from check in- rooms- bars/ lounge- pool - cleanliness- staff- restaurant-parking-check out. We tend to stay in the lovely King rooms overlooking the greens , but have stayed in a family room too. Special mention this time to Holly on reception and Dan in the restaurant - both very friendly and efficient.

I never write negative reviews or reviews at all really but found our experience very poor and hoped it could encourage some improvements. My friend and I booked a spa day as a special treat. The spa is nice and clean and towels and robes were fine. We were told to go for afternoon tea in our robes but not given instructions to get to the right restaurant so awkwardly asked strangers and staff on our detour. The afternoon tea was very poor. My friend has a lactose intolerance and we were told at 12.30 that it was too late to order anything different but had not been asked about this at all. My friend was told that all of the sandwiches had been made with either butter or mayonnaise. We said that in this day and age it is unacceptable to not offer anything so my friend asked if they could make up a plain ham. This clearly put the staff out. Then the tea pot was put on the table and had lots of cracks through it and slowly leaked out everywhere. The tea for two was then replaced with tea for one in a tiny pot. The service was very slow and only the two gentlemen were pleasant but we clearly inconvenienced the female member of staff. It’s very sad but I’m so glad we did not pay full price for this experience and won’t be returning 😢

Afternoon tea for a birthday treat. Upon arriving we weren’t told where to go, so we had a wonder around and found the restaurant. When we arrived at the restaurant, we were greeted by a waiter, who was really scruffy looking, although wearing a black tie, his shirt was grey (supposed to be white) and hanging out of his trousers, could see his stomach. He was wearing a suit jacket, which later decided to take off as he stated, loudly to the other staff that he was sweating, the hung it over an unoccupied table chair. We were seen to quickly, had out tea brought out but has to ask for our milk, the tea had started to cool by this point. We asked for hot water and that was fine. The tables around us still had food and pots on them from previous guests. The music was ok, but then the doors were opened to allow air in and we could hear the outdoor cinema being played, so we had a mix of music and shrek! We were the only guests in the restaurant, when the staff decided to clear away the other tables, we felt really rushed, as if they wanted us to leave. We asked for a box to put the rest of our food in, left the restaurant and found the bar, where we paid for another tea and settled there nicely.

Bizarre experience in the bar. We arrived at 11.30am hoping to have a sandwich before playing golf at 12.40on the Hunting Course. Only to be told the chefs do not work from 11.30 am to 12 noon. So beware of this bizarre policy at Slaley Hall. Apart from this minor "hickup" we thoroughly enjoyed a good value golf break and excellent weather.

First of all would like to say all the staff in the spa and restaurant were very friendly and lovely and the food was lovely but wouldn't give it 5 stars due to a few niggles. 1. When originally booking got a very rude person which I found out after making a complaint that they were quite new( never saw them on the day we were there) 2. You can't apparently book a Saturday till 2 weeks before, but nothing on the Spa voucher which was sold as a Fri to Sat spa day voucher. 3. Have done spa days for the last 8 years ( hubby buys me one every year) but would not class the pool area as a relaxing spa area (also just a 1 steam room and 1 sauna room ) compared to all the other spas days we have done. Although if you are staying at the hotel, the pool area is lovely.

Our server took our food orders before asking what drinks we would like. Food arrived quite quickly. We were a party of 5 and had ordered 2 lamb shoulders, a sea bass, a fish pie with buttered greens and a child’s chicken burger and chips. The only meals that were okay were the sea bass and the child’s burger meal (although this was rather dry). The lamb shoulder meal was overpriced for what it was and the fish pie with buttered greens was extremely poor. The prawns and scallop in the pie were rubbery and inedible and the “non” buttered greens were peas which were already plentiful in the fish pie. I wasn’t impressed with it at all. Very small portion size and I left a lot of the filling. The mash on top was okay though not worth the £16 price tag. 4 desserts were ordered which for some reason didn’t go through to the kitchen. When we queried where our dessert order was, it came within a few minutes with an apology explaining why it had been delayed and the desserts were deducted from the bill. The chocolate fondant didn’t have a runny centre and the warm lemon treacle tart and clotted cream ice cream was replaced by a raspberry frangipane tart with vanilla ice cream. I know this because it tasted of almonds which wouldn’t be in the former dessert. I would not recommend this restaurant for a meal to anyone. The server was obviously quite new and didn’t seem confident in her job.

An excellent 5 night stay where our group of 36 were made to feel most welcome by Kate, Sarah and Grace. Our stay was way beyond our expectations. Only niggle was incorrect items on bar bill to a number of our group. These were all removed on querying. It pays to check. We would recommend Slaley Hall to any group wishing to visit Northumberland.

We had a lovely meal in the restaurant and our waiter Josh was very attentive. However, I ordered Chicken Supreme which is normally cooked in a cream sauce. I was served a very succulent roasted chicken which had not seen a sauce. We then ordered sweets and the lad that brought our food, as an afterthought, asked if we would like spoons and brought us soup spoons. Eating Panacota with a large soup spoon is a first. Otherwise the experience was nice and everybody was lovely.

I visited Slayley hall for a spa day and afternoon tea. We had a fabulous experience, the spa was lovely and the afternoon tea was just brilliant. The service we received from Cristian was second to non. He was so attentive and nothing was a hassle. Good customer service is so important and he exceeded, because of this I would definitely recommend visiting and I will be back. Thank you for helping to make my birthday so special.

The spa: we arrived at 10.45am for an 11am treatment, the treatment was fantastic, my wife had her 50 minutes, mine was cut short to 40 minutes? Usually after treatment you get led to a lovely dark room to continue the relaxation, we were led back to the communal waiting area, fully lit with people coming and going! Walls scraped, doors bashed, in need of a lot of tlc! Anyway we enter the pool area afterwards, pool freezing, pool area, not warm and relaxing like it should be, rust on the handrails, actual holes in the handrails where it had rusted away. So after suffering it for half an hour decided to have lunch. Now Usually in a spa you have lunch in your robes, not here! No food served other than crisps and nuts, not allowed to the bar in robes so had no choice but to get dressed. The bar: Apart from dog's being allowed throughout the hotel, dog hair all over the carpets and rugs. We ordered buffalo wings and fries, food arrives " I'm sorry there is no buffalo sauce, here's your plain wings" ate the fries, sent the wings back. Ordered more fries instead, fries arrived way overcooked! Sent them back! After lunch had no desire to go back into the poorly maintained spa area so went to check in. Check in: 3pm queue about 15 deep, sat at the bar until the queue dies down. 4pm queue still the same. 5pm had no choice but to stand in it, for 35 minutes! Room not too bad, evening meal good, breakfast good but no orange juice and we waited 30 minutes for croissants to be restocked. It seems very apparent that the hotel had failed to prepare for the large amount of guests. We wait all year for our annual trip away and have been left very disappointed. This is not the standard you would expect from an exclusive hotel like Slaley Hall!

We went to a wedding evening reception at this hotel and stayed the night. Fine so far. Bedroom fine. However, we took the opportunity, as we were celebrating my birthday the day after, to book a spa day with overnight stay for my birthday. Received notice, just a day before we were to stay, that the spa wasn't working ( actually it was the jacuzzi not working ), so we decided that it would spoil the day and cancelled the spa day. We lost our deposit for that day and was not offer any other reasonable recompense, apart from we can book for another date!! Which really no good as it was done to celebrate the specific day. We had paid the two night stay refund prior to staying, only to find that they had charged us twice. After a number of phone calls etc, at the moment we are still waiting to receive payment back. We found that the customer service was extremely poor in all aspects, when dealing with this problems. I've will take awhile before we return here.

Stopped off for breakfast and found automation had caught up with Morrisons, in the form of an automated ordering system. Finding our way around the screen wasn't quite as easy as big Mac and KFC equivalents but we did manage it, only just. Wanting to pay by cash, however, was even more difficult as the robot doesn't accept anything except credit cards so customer, much against the chagrin, had to use plastic. The breakfasts, when they arrived, was excellent and without doubt value for plastic.

Nice little hotel bar right on the Main Street of Alnwick I had drink several times during our stay in Alnwick. Margaret had the chilli which she said was nice. I wasn’t hungry so had the potato skins which came with a barbecue sauce and garlic mayo, which were ok but out of a bottle.

Asked for two teas with extra teabag and was informed the charge would be £2.60 extra. Discussed with my husband and decided to have coffee instead. Went back to the ordering area but had to wait while the two members of staff were discussing overtime hours with another member of staff. After going back to the table my husband who had an ‘americano’ needed more cold milk. Once again went to ask for some but must wait while one assistant was showing the other how to fill a serviette dispenser. Poor service and TEABAGS AT £2.60 EACH - Shame on you MARKS AND SPENCER.
