We used to go here many years ago and after seeing reviews decided to return. It was a rail y day and the place was virtually empty which was a shame. We ordered roast beef and we were certainly not disappointed. It came with a vast selection of vegetables, all fresh not frozen. The meal was hot and the beef delicious and tender. Would have loved a sweet but we were both too full. Well worth a visit.

Myself and family called in on the way from Yorkshire to Beadnell Bay on holiday earlier this year, as I said what a little gem! everything was spot on, the staff couldn’t do enough for you and the food was some of the best pub food we have ever had, my 11 year old son loved it and he is not easy to please. We have been back since and had the Sunday Lunch again excellent. My advice for anyone passing - Give it a try you won’t regret it.

Called in here for Sunday lunch. We both ordered the prawn cocktail. The prawns were rubbery & appeared to have been defrosted. Roast chicken was overcooked & tough. Disappointing selection of draught real ales (none). I would have complained, but by the time a member of the waiting staff spotted us, we just wanted to leave.

We stopped here for sunday lunch and ordered the potato skins as a starter, roast beef, 2 Jambalaya's and the 'extra' spicy chilli with birds eye peppers (there were 4 of us). The potatoe skins were lovely, the roast beef was very tender, but a bit dry and the roast potatoes not quite fully cooked. The cauliflower looked a bit grey , carrots were very nice though. The extra spicy chilli was spicy, but not as much as we thought it would be. The Jambalaya didn't go down too well, but that could just be to individual taste. The fries that came with the chilli were good. Overall a nice place with very friendly staff who welcome you warmly.

On the evening we visited (Tuesday) they were not serving food due to a staff member having a family emergency. Reports in the guest book of the cottage we were staying in locally could not praise the food highly enough. We stayed for a drink and sat in the beer garden and chatted to the landlord who was very friendly and welcoming and could not apologise enough for not being able to supply food, although he did offer to cook us fish and chips. The restaurant seating inside the pub was a bit dark but much brighter in the attached conservatory. There was plenty of space between tables and everything looked clean and tidy. We will have to try again sometime. They had live music in the garden on a Friday night with several different bands performing.

Lovely to see some TLC being injected back into what used to be a thriving country pub within the local community. The new proprietors Steve and Shell provide very warm and welcoming hospitality as they work their way towards building what I'm sure will prove to be an excellent bar and dining destination. The pub is undergoing a major kitchen refurbishment so no food is being served as yet but hopefully the restaurant will be ready within a couple of weeks. Many of the issues referred to in earlier reviews are being addressed and dealt with so with that in mind, please give the new owners a chance.

One of my friend's teaspoon was very stained and had to be cleaned prior to using. Needless to say we just left after using the toilets. These were In disrepair and not very hygienic and rather smelly. We will not be visiting again. The only good thing I can say is that the staff were very friendly. Sorry.

Has to be the worst meal I have had for as long as I can remember. We have passed this pub every week as we travel home from our caravan and often thought of calling in. Well now I have and boy what a mistake. The ONLY good point was the friendly young lady behind the bar. After that !!!I ordered the mixed grill which was a hybrid of mixed grill and all day breakfast. Chips - ok, hash brown and burger - both greasy and shouldn't be on a mixed grill, black pudding - like cardboard , bacon - ok, mushrooms - vile and deep fried , gammon - average. Lastly and by far the worst was the steak. Black outside and red in the middle. Not as in rare which is how I like steak but just in weird. 3 of us tried it and couldn't hand on heart say it was steak. I can't tell you how much to avoid this place and can only think that any reviews giving it a rating of more than 1 must be family or friends of the owner

This place is really really not very good. I tried to keep an open mind as we entered, looked a bit rough but we both went for the carvery. There was no carving going on just dishes of steaming hours old veg. Meat and yorkshire came separate. I had to cut the fat off the mean before I even went to look at the veg. tinned carrots and slop. really not great. Ate a few bits. To make it worse as we left there was rats running around the carpark area which turned my stomach for the rest of the day. I will never return to this place, health and safety really should go and inspect as it probably isn't fit for eating.

OMG, I cant believe this establishment has been awarded 3.5 stars, seeing is believing. we called into this place for some lunch and to have a break in our journey, we sat in the conservatory waiting for the food, which was filthy and really we should have walked out then, but that's when the live entertainment began, just outside and in the childrens play area was an infestation of rats, I have never seen so many in one place, we couldn't believe what we were seeing, when reporting this to the barmaid/waitress, she claimed she wasn't aware of any rat problem, which I fined unbelieveable especially when the place was run wick with them. Then the food arrived, omg, mince and dumplings, looked like a mashed up tin of dog food and a dumpling cut in half, don't know where the other half was, maybe the rats had called in for lunch, it had obviously been frozen and looked like it had been warmed up with a blow torch, I cannot believe this place has not been closed down by environmental health.

I visited here about 2 weeks ago with my partner and his family and saddens me with how inaccurate and quite rude the reviews are for this place. Our experience was good. We went for the Sunday dinner and the staff were very professional and smartly dressed with quick and friendly service. Although my turnip had a lump or two in I could not fault it. Whilst talking to the barmaid I found out they had done a refurbishment back in the winter and she said the owner had built the place back up. I did notice, however not all the staff seemed to want to work together by picking up on body language and there was many cigarette ends on the floor outside, however bins were provided so was not the staffs fault and I also noticed the small barmaid went to sweep them up, as I assumed she heard us talking. This is our first review as we were shocked, and disgusted with how the pub and staff were being displayed. We will be back.

A larger gentleman who had been eating walked passed on way out, he said bye to bar staff, which now was 3 uninterested girls, as soon as his back was turned one "lady" passed a very nasty comment about the man... I would like to start off by saying that if I could give minus stars I would! We went here on Sunday for a carvery to much disappointment. To me a carvery is where the chef carves the meat in front out you however this was not the case. We were given a number once we had paid for our food and were told to wait while our meat and Yorkshire pudding were brought from the kitchen, the staff member that brought it out walked into the back room to find us (we were stood at the bar in front of her) and came back and said to another member of staff they have obviously left with a very bad tone we had to go to the other side of the bar to get our food back (if that was me I would have possibly shouted out the number as there were a few people in the bar). The meat came out looking very dry and had also cracked round the edges indicating to me that it has been cooked then frozen and reheated again (I'm sure this was supposed to be a fresh carvery!) The Yorkshire pudding was green inside and my partner found part of the Yorkshire pudding tin inside his. We proceeded through the back room to get our veg however now I'm not sure why but the mash and turnip were like purée and the broccoli looked days old. There had been a festival there the same weekend and one of the men who was working as security outside all day was moving the gravy back and forth from the kitchen to the food hall still in the same outdoor dirty clothing and had obviously not washed his hands (we noticed this once we had getting our food). We should have probably not bothered after seeing the owners dogs wandering around on the roof upon arrival. Once we sat down and noticed the green Yorkshire puddings and very dry meat we decided that we were not willing to eat or pay for it so we called the manager out and ask for a refund. He was very rude to us when we explained why we wanted the refund. We will not be returning in a hurry. This place should come with a health warning, I may just report them myself as I have never been anywhere that is this dirty.

Decided on the carvery.Absolutely minging. Insipid looking turkey and small grisly piece of beef, catering meat at its worse. Cold plates and veg most of which had seen the inside of a can. Yorkshire pud was unusual, mine had a green tinge to the inside and was as soggy as a wet sponge. I assume that the only reason this place has not shut is that It is in an ideal position to catch one off trade from people using the a1 because no one with a sense of taste would go twice. Rather than miss my appointment, I decided to get a taxi and sort the car later. I went back into the pub to ask about a taxi, and the landlord, without hesitation, said he would give me a lift! Great. So I was able to keep my appointment on time.I managed to get a lift back to the pub, where I thought I would give the car another try, but the battery had little life in it. But the landlord immediately offered to try jump leads from his van, and lo! My car started first touch! Naturally OI didn’t stop again until I got home, and still seeking the cause of the original problem. But such good and friendly service should not go unnoticed.

Went for a carvery but the meat was stone cold, Yorkshire pudding was cold dry and brittle, veg was varying degrees of cold and dried from air exposure. It doesn't seem very clean, all of the décor was tired, the staff just stood around chatting in the bar. That is the very last time I ever go there!

The good bits... A very pleasant and friendly barmaid and also we were refunded the money for our food promptly. The bad bits...it was dirty. There were hairs stuck in the grease on our table. The seats looked so grubby I didn't really want to sit down. The conservatory dining room had wasps flying in and out so we changed seats and sat in dark and dingy bar. The toilets were disgusting. The food was the worst I have ever been served. Flaccid, pale chips reeking of rancid fat. Tuna sandwich was vomit inducing. Lettuce dripping with water ,rendering sandwich water logged. We literally had a couple of bites of food as we were so hungry but were to scared to carry on eating as it tasted so odd and musty. We left, still desperately hungry, but it was better than risking being ill. Had an upset stomach later even after two bites of the sandwich and one chip! And, by the way, we waited an hour for the food to be served!!!

Lovely off the beaten track pub, just off A1 Morpeth way, Small number of staff all very pleasant and hard working, the lovely young girl behind the bar never stopped for a minute and was smiling throughout. Carvery lunch was excellent, beautifully cooked vegetables (fab for me a vegetarian) and my family enjoyed the choice of four joints. Old fashioned apple pie for dessert was lush too. Promptly served. Really pleasant play area out back of conservatory for kids. Couldn't fault it and will go back. davedrums2109@gmail.com

I heard this place was under new management so on recommendation decided it to give it a chance. It came recommended a few weeks ago. I now only wish i could remember who recommended it so I could have a word !!!Ordered curry and rice for my friend and I ordered fish and chips. Curry - too spicy to eat, nan bread out of a packet and killed in the microwave. Rice barley warm fish - undercooked, actually still raw in places. Chips undercooked and mushy peas had been sitting under the heat lamp for ages and dried out They appear to be trying to spruce the place up by painting some of it. Steady trade. Come on oak inn - improve the food and standards and your into a winner. Continue with same standards and you will closed in a month. Food inspector notified. Pictures have been emailed to them.

called in to the oak a few days ago only to find that's its changed hands in the last few weeks....was disappointed as we really liked the staff and the food as it was always very very good....but things change so was willing to give the new owners a go.Lady at the bar seemed friendly enough and told us her and her husband had just taken over the pub, so are now open daily from 7:30am - 9am for breakfast as her husband (now the chef i believe) a former truck driver wanted to fill a gap in the market for drivers wanting a good cooked breakfast...that's fair enough as its just off the A1The menu has shrunk quite a bit so theres limited choice. We didn't want burgers or the like so hubs went for hunters chicken with chips and salad and i plumped for sausage and mash with seasonal veg (you cant go wrong with good plain simple food) ha !!! how wrong was i(photos below)Once clean and tidy pub now not so clean and tidy.Only 2 old ladies having a sandwich apart from us, so no other customers in the place, but we still waited 40 minutes for our meal !!!!!!Went to the bar asked if our meal would be long she said he was just waiting for the chicken (were was it ? )Anyways it arrived after another 5 minutes, so that's a 45 minute wait.Never been served anything so awful in a long long long time....no presentation....food was cold...3 small burnt sausages (not good quality)...bland, tasteless lumpy mash...drowned in gravy....seasonal veg was peas ?? but, i ask myself what season were they ?Hubs chips were hard.....chicken was dry, no salad dressing....no tasteWill give this once welcoming pub a wide berth in future...such a shameI believe in giving an honest opinion of a place after all that's what this site is for so ive got to say what I think.I hope in a way that this was an off day and things will improve as time goes on and they get into the swing of things but I think i'll wait a while

I had heard that the pub had changed hands so decided to pop in for a couple of drinks. The bar and dinning area was dirty, the seats were stained and looked like the floor had not been cleaned for days.I decided to sit in the garden, I walked over to a table on the grass as I walked over the grass I looked down and there must have been 20 or more dog mess in the grass, which looked like it had not been cut for some time. Did not stay for another drink,

Having been to the Oak on three occasions with friends we called in today for lunch (28/03/15 On the other visits we were warmly greeted by the female owner and directed to the conservatory where we had an enjoyable meal with excellent service. Today we were met with a surly attitude and told that the menu was on the bar and the specials were on the board. When we asked about the table service we were told they had never done it. Asking if the place had changed hands we were curtly told that they had been here for 9 years and had always had the same bar service and had never offered table service. We. decided enough was enough chose not to stay on leaving a male voice from the bar said " close the door ". This attitude may explain why the place was pretty empty. I was brought up by parents who had pubs and have a brother who is a chef. I know how tough the business is and would prefer to say nothing rather than leave a review like this but this guy crossed the line. The business will get what it deserves if that man is in charge. It will be a cold day in Hell before I enter that place again..

The Oak Inn is situated just off the A1 and is well sign posted and convenient for travellers heading north. It makes a reasonable stopping place or indeed somewhere to go locally for a casual meal. The menu is very varied and includes a wide choice of 'mains' plus pizzas, sandwiches etc. We have eaten there twice and the food was perfectly OK. Staff are friendly and service fairly speedy. The Inn has a small outdoor area and a little garden which is great in good weather and an extensive conservatory indoors off the main bar which can be very noisy.

Decided to have lunch with friends at The Oak after passing it regularly. I wish we hadn't bothered. The pub did not live up to expectations. Expecting usual pub fayre in a traditional pub we were disappointed as they only serve Italian food with a few specials on the board. OK we decided we would have the steak pie from the special board only to find once we had sat down it had been removed. When we informed the staff that we weren't going to eat there as we didn't want Italian food we were offered cornbeef sandwiches and chips! We left.

I would highly recommend this pub for its home cooked food and excellent service. Very friendly staff made us most welcome with our dog. We chose Salmon, prawn and asparagus risotto with white wine cream sauce. It was delicious and perfectly cooked. There were plenty prawns and salmon in it and I had Parmesan cheese on top. My husband had Whitby scampi and chips with salad. It tasted fresh and was perfectly cooked. The hips came in a basket and the whole dis hep was well presented. They have a log burner for the cold winters and an out door play area for the kids in summer. Just off the A1 so is well worth a trip out.

The cafe prices are ludicrous. £3.45 for a toasted tea cake with barely any fruit in it is ridiculous as is a fiver for two cups of tea and £9 for a cooked breakfast!! The staff are not the most pleasant either. Sadly the shop and garden centre prices are way off the scale too compared to most other garden centres. Definitely would not recommend or revisit.

Nice little hotel bar right on the Main Street of Alnwick I had drink several times during our stay in Alnwick. Margaret had the chilli which she said was nice. I wasn’t hungry so had the potato skins which came with a barbecue sauce and garlic mayo, which were ok but out of a bottle.

Popped in for lunch on a day over to Lindisfarne. Despite advertising that they cater for gluten free, a disappointing menu. When I asked at the bar if they do anything gluten free, the barman said that anything gluten free will have GF after it on menu, but they can do any sandwich with gluten free bread. There were no meals suitable on menu, so I went back to bar and asked if their spread was dairy free. Barmaid gives a big sigh and goes to check. Comes back to say yes it is, what do you want- like it was a big inconvenience for her. It’s not my husbands fault that he has allergies. Such attitude makes me wonder how anyone goes back here. Sarnie was ok but they didnt seem to do it separate to normal food as hubby found a bit of grated cheese attached to his bread. If he hadn’t spotted it, he would have been I’ll. overpriced too as the bread was just normal sliced bread. WONT BE GOING BACK!
