Excellent breakfast which comes with toast and preserves. The coffee is good which costs £3.20 and £10.00 for the breakfast.Maybe a little on the expensive side as it's not the biggest breakfast but everything on the plate was so good and so nice to get plum tomatoes instead of fried ones.i would definitely recommend this cafe for breakfast and with the tables outside it's a pleasant place to eat it aswell especially when the weather is like it was today

We were a group of four couples who dropped in for a drink on our walk. The staff were very friendly and accomadating. We didn't eat there but the Sunday lunches looked amazing (next time😋) after a couple of drinks the ladies decided to walk back leaving the men to have another pint 🫣. Anyway I think it was the lovely landlady who ended up dropping them back in Romaldkirk village. That is superb customer service. So a big thank you from the four old codgers xxxx

Staff are so friendly & helpful . This is a great little cafe & deli a short walk from the High Street - well worth the effort . The cakes & coffee are divine . The deli in the adjacent room is well worth checking out- their stock of cheeses made in the north-east is extensive. We will definitely visit again when next in Barney !

Popped in for a bite to eat and a drink. Both dog and baby friendly. Nice and quick for food to come out. Ordered some cheese on toast which wasn’t on the menu for our little one and they very happily sorted this out and provided childrens cutlery and plates.

Excellent atmosphere if you like thinks old. This place dates back to 1690. Quiet location with good car parking. Good food. We had a salad and a pasta that went well together for sharing!

Really friendly caring staff. The food was fantastic and beautifully presented. We had dinner, bed & breakfast which was good package price. The bar is lovely with nice choice of drinks. The building is old (beautiful staircase!) and rooms dated, but they are updating over time and the room was warm and spotlessly clean. With fresh cut flowers and nice towels. Don’t be put off by the 2 star status, please support smaller businesses and independents! Many thanks for looking after us and returning my glasses in the post! Maxine.

So very disappointed . Not only was it New Year's Day but my daughter was home from Australia for Christmas. The orders weren't correct , the whole meal was very substandard and cold . Beef was tough so was the pork . We should have mentioned this at the time but didn't want to put a downer on the day. Will not be booking again .

Visited this hotel as a gift for my boyfriend. We planned to visit High Force waterfall and then had a booking at the local Grassholme Observatory for some start gazing. I emailed ahead of arrival to request if we could park up earlier than check in which was no problem at all, just let reception know. We had lunch before setting out for our walk, our waitress Julie was great. Very accommodating and she arranged for a table for evening meal and requested alternative vegetarian meals which was no trouble for the kitchen and allowed us to pre order and have food ready at 6pm giving us plenty of time to digest before heading to the observatory. Nothing was too much for the team at high force hotel, staff were lovely and made our stay very pleasant. Breakfast was lovely too, lots of made to order choices and a continental buffet. Highly recommend a stay and eating here.
