The best restaurants serving British food in Barnard Castle West County Durham North East

I get 150 trip advisor points for writing this, I hope they can be cashed in for something useful, coffee hot and black like I like it so 5 stars

We had afternoon tea on Saturday 10th May,it was delicious. Everything home made and beautifully presented also a lovely little shop selling home grown produce.

Good coffee, great choice of cakes and scones. Would highy recommend. Will definitely re-visit when next in Barnard Castle .

This has to be the best chippy in the UK We've been on numerous occasions and always fish cooked to perfection in crisp batter and perfectly cooked chips, all served by friendly staff - just a pity that we live so far away !

Passing through on way back from holiday. Stopped for morning break. Delicious freshly baked scone and coffee. Lovely and clean quiches looked great. What a great find would recommend.

Great fish and chips. Sometimes have to wait a little while but that's because it's popular!

Had a beautiful lunch on Saturday at The Crown. The staff are amazing, very warm and friendly. 10 out of 10. Can’t get better than that!

First time we had been. Beautiful service,a really pleasant girl served us .we ordered 2 egg mayonnaise sandwiches and two coffees. The coffee was beautiful and although the bread was lovely,both myself and my husband thought the sandwich filling was very sparse. More cucumber (which wasn't mentioned on the menu). It was disappointing

Fabulous meat pies, take away, crammed full of beef, proper pie, rarely found these days, pastry top and bottom, delicious!!

Popped in for a bite to eat and a drink. Both dog and baby friendly. Nice and quick for food to come out. Ordered some cheese on toast which wasn’t on the menu for our little one and they very happily sorted this out and provided childrens cutlery and plates.

Excellent atmosphere if you like thinks old. This place dates back to 1690. Quiet location with good car parking. Good food. We had a salad and a pasta that went well together for sharing!

This hotel is a mixture, the staff are great, the food is excellent and over all we had outstanding value for our money - the dining was outstanding and portions more than we could cope with. We were impressed by the presentation of the food, the ambiance and also - unusually the veggie breakfast was sublime. The room, we stayed in was a little jaded - could have done with a refresh, the hot water was temperamental - we were sure that our neighbouring room was also using their shower as the temperature varied from arctic to volcanic sometimes in nanoseconds. We had a great trip around the pennines and to be honest, noting the slightly tired bedroom decor, we would consider coming again; if we were to take another trip in these parts.

So very disappointed . Not only was it New Year's Day but my daughter was home from Australia for Christmas. The orders weren't correct , the whole meal was very substandard and cold . Beef was tough so was the pork . We should have mentioned this at the time but didn't want to put a downer on the day. Will not be booking again .

Great country hotel, lovely friendly staff and service, very dog friendly. Lovely room with very comfortable bed and an excellent breakfast. We will be back again, thank you.
