Coghlans provided a delicious buffet for a birthday party for 60 people in a slightly tricky venue, with not only the minimum of fuss, but a real flair for catering for an occasion such as this. They made it seem like nothing was too much trouble, from helping me to choose the menu, ensuring that everyone including vegans and people with allergies could find tasty dishes to eat, and negotiating a kitchen where not everything was working. And the service was provided with a lovely smile and a good sense of humour. The canapés were superb, the buffet table looked fantastic and had just the right balance of wonderful British and Middle Eastern mains and salads, and the lovely desserts disappeared in a flash. All in all, this was a great service and contributed in a big way to making my birthday go with a swing. Thank you, Coghlans.

I thoroughly enjoyed a scrumptious high afternoon tea with friends today. What a treat! A real gem. It’s the traditional quintessential experience in an old coach house with white linen tablecloths and delicate tea service. The tiered high tea does not disappoint. Freshly made delicious finger sandwiches with crusts off (of course), large mini quiches, followed by cream filled soft sticky centred meringues, sharp lemon tart, a strawberry mousse shot, moist fruit cake, scones with jam and cream, all enjoyed with bottomless earl grey. It was a most wonderful relaxed afternoon with friends and definitely place to visit. Well done team Coghlans.

Drove past this tearoom earlier in the month and made a point of noting it as a future destination to visit. We visited at lunchtime mid week in late August with some friends and were not disappointed. The staff were extremely attentive and the food was excellent. We will be revisiting in the future. The location is tucked away off the main road but well worth the visit.

We have had afternoon tea at this lovely tearoom on several occasions and lunches but yesterday evening we attended a supper evening by way of a gift for my birthday. Barningham is a lovely village in a very pretty area and a visit to Coghlans makes for a lovely trip out. The menu was varied with something for most people. I had soup which is always good here and my husband had smoked salmon and prawn starter then we both had their famous potato topped Barningham lamb pie which was delicious. My husband then had the cheese plate and I had the frangipane tart. There is a good selection of wines by the glass or full bottles. Andrew and his team always make us welcome and fresh flowers, delicate china and white lace tablecloths add to the feeling of elegance. They sell naughty but nice things in the deli shop too! We will be back again soon.

Lovely setting and an exceptionally good afternoon tea with a nice selection of sandwiches, mini quiche, tea loaf, citrus tart, cream meringue, scone with jam and cream and a strawberry mousse. All in all a thoroughly enjoyable experience which I wouldn't hesitate to recommend

Treat yourselves. Coghlans is in the lovely village of Barningham, on the south side of the A66. It’s like a special secret but deserves to be widely appreciated. Afternoon tea was of the highest quality with excellent ingredients, beautifully presented and very filling. I believe everything is made there. Personally I would have preferred more of the sandwiches than the cakes - (the bread and fillings were delicious. I wish I could them in London).

Unfortunately I can't give the review less than a one star but if I could I would. This so called man, Andrew Coghlan, is a complete liar and disgrace. He tells me his business has gone into administration however I see no evidence of this and in the process has stolen my £1200 wedding catering deposit. He is a con man and scum. Do not give your business or money to this man. See you in court U vile little man, I will get my money bk so watch out!

Easter Sunday lunch-a real treat. Food delicious and plenty of it.

We treated our Mum to lunch for Mother's Day. 9 of us in total. Everyone's meal was delicious. They went above and beyond to cater for a baby and a child who's a fussy eater. The Salmon Wellington was divine. We'll be visiting again.

We called into the shop on a rainy day and the shop keeper was lovely! Made us a nice hot drink to take with us on our walk due to the tea rooms being fully booked, also considered our greyhound and provided us with water. We had some pastries and they were hands down the best pastries we’ve ever had! Thank you for making our cold rainy walk so much better!

We recently visited Coghlans at Barningham and had a fabulous experience. This is our 3rd visit and each time the quality of the food and the service has been first class. The setting is beautiful, the menu is varied and the food is delicious. The staff are friendly and accommodating and the attention to detail is outstanding. We also visited the shop, which has a great range of products. We bought a number of items, including cakes and Dine at Home meals, which were equally wonderful. We can't rate the establishment highly enough and will definitely be returning in 2024!

We were thrilled with Andrew's delicious - and affordable -sparkling wine recommendation for our recent Drinks Party. I'm glad I also ordered Coghlan's lovely and thoughtful spread of Canapés. Such a beautiful service, and we highly recommend. We are very fortunate to have such an excellent service in the Barningham area!

We had an amazing afternoon tea today. We were warmly greeted and shown to a lovely big table with beautiful bone china cups and saucers. We requested no fish when we booked and this wasn't a problem at all. The sandwiches were delicious and the cakes and sweet treats were sublime. The tea was loose leaf served in an elegant tea pot. And the glass of fizz was lovely and crisp. The service was outstanding and we can't wait to visit again when we are next in the area. We would highly recommend.

We booked for afternoon tea to celebrate a family birthday. The whole experience was professional and the food was a delight. From the beautiful crockery and Orange Peko aperitif to an excellent range of sandwiches, tarts, scones and posset. Every part of the meal was well presented and very tasty. I would recommend this venue without hesitation and look forward to returning again.

wow, what an amazing lunch. We enjoyed leek and potato soup with the best focaccia I've ever tasted (first time in my life I've not dunked my bread!). Black bream in butter sauce with samphire and roast veg main course, again perfectly cooked. I had cherry frangipane dessert and OH had a walnut apple crumble tart- both delicious, excellent bakes, you can tell all is made on the day. Very impressive and lovely service too. Totally recommend.

We had a lovely afternoon at Coghlans, we went into the shop/ bakery first and for a small space they had some lovely items in there. We bought some lovely baked products. Then we had Afternoon tea in the tea room, the service was so lovely, so friendly and attentive. there was a good selection of sandwiches and quiche, followed by a lemon tart, blueberry possett, scones, meringues and fruit loaf. The pastry on the quice and tart was so short and perfectly cooked. Visited as a couple last week for the classic afternoon tea as we have done on many occasions and was dissatisfied and disappointed sadly. The finger sandwiches were bland and had hardly any filling inside the only other savoury item was a small quiche. The selection of sweet treats all tasted the same and all full of cream. It would be nice to have a chocolate item of some kind which there wasn’t. The tea used to be served fresh with tea leaves but not any more. Sadly we will not return as the price keeps on rising but the quality and value for money is lacking more each time.

We visited on Friday afternoon for afternoon tea. We were welcomed into the tearoom by Andrew. The table was laid with crisp white linen and pretty crockery. All of the food items were homemade and delicious with lovely presentation. The tea was made with real tea leaves. This is the best afternoon tea we have experienced and we would highly recommend it. Make sure you book in advance as many others have also found this hidden gem. We will definitely be returning.

We went for afternoon tea. What a lovely selection of savoury and sweet items, served with your choice of tea (though we started with a glass of prosecco). Nice location, lively atmosphere and they also have a small deli. At the rest rooms there are a selection of quirky hats to try on! The tables are spaced far enough apart to preserve some privacy.

How disappointed we were on Sunday. We decided to eat one of your ready meals. Teesdale Lamb hot pot, we counted 6 small pieces of lamb, lots of vegetables and gravy. I removed the slices of potato as they were black. We bought this meal two weeks ago.

We checked the website before every visit to check opening times and stated would be open.Travelled there three times now, both on bikes and in car. First time, closed to public for private function.Second time, it was just not openThird time, a written note on door, “ closed for annual holiday”.We passed 2 sandwich boards displaying OPEN and listing foods.There was a sandwich board on the road at the entrance drive to the shop saying OPEN!!We actively want to support local business, it’s still a half hour drive, but won’t call again. Shabby.

So we took a left turning to go to the Morritt Arms off the A66 and saw a lovely sign to a Coghlans Tearooms in Barnigham, informing us it was only two miles away. So we drove to the tearoom to be welcomed by a sign saying “open Tuesday to Saturday” May I make a couple of suggestions so potential customers don’ t waste another 15 minutes of their lives.1, take the signs in when you are closed? Amazing lunch, asparagus and tomato quiche...pastry so thin and crispy, fantastic. Chicken terrine, gloriously unctuous. Superb homemade food...top quality. Their shop is brilliant also, homemade breads, pork pies, Cornish pasties and locally sourced honey.

My mum was delighted to receive her surprise afternoon tea this week, delivered to her door, near Lartington. Beautifully presented with lots and lots of delicious, yummy food. Fruit & veg boxes are packed full of seasonal goodies. Also picked up a bag of chestnuts to roast and delicious Cornish Pasties for lunch.

The quality of the food is exceptional. The poppy bread is the best bread we have ever tasted. Would like to see a bigger range of take away cakes.

We have just finished a most delicious, three course dinner and are completely satiated. Each course exceeded our expectations. It could not be improved upon. Can not wait for next weekend to do it again!

We ordered afternoon tea for 2 to be delivered to our house. It was absolutely delicious and made for a very special birthday treat. When placing the order they were very accommodating to special requests (eg. no cheese, raspberry jam instead of strawberry). So pleased we’ve done this, many thanks.

I ordered a mix a sweet things (cakes, scones, finger sandwiches, as boxes and some extras) also some savory pasties, quiche, and mix of salads. All of it was top notch and grab and go collection was easy (although they would have delivered if I had wanted). Highly recommended anyway. Prob not the cheapest but in life you get what you pay for.

Have been numerous times now when staying with family up North. The food and service are excellent and If you want to have a really nice meal in lovely surroundings then I would highly recommend Coghlans.

Although we live but a short distance from Barningham, we have visted Coghlans, on more than occasion to enjoy one their superb Afternoon Teas. Our visit today, was down to the fact that we were given an Afternoon Tea voucher by friends as part of one Wedding "gifts". We chose the date as the 13th February as it marked the anniversary of our first date way back in 1964. We couldn't do owt about the weather but the ambience and the quality of what was served was spot on.
