Called in on a Sunday for a dinner, the menu was really varied and offered a great choice of dishses, from pub classics to some locally sources fare that was very well presented. The portions were large but not overwhelming and everything we ordered was hot and delicious. Staff were attentive, polite and couldn't do enough for us. Will definitely be back next time I'm in the area

What’s not to like , great menu and real ales with a fire , and dogs are allowed which is a nice change from dog friendly which means you can sit outside with your 4 legged friend not here they are welcome inside and out and even have doggo treats at the bar for them, a nice friendly welcome and a great choice of drinks, the food is more than enough to tickle those taste buds

Excellent meal on a Sunday evening. Booked a table for two a few days earlier as places that are open for food on Sunday evenings are few and far between. The food was really nice with generous portions at reasonable prices. All staff at the hotel were friendly and approachable, nothing was too much trouble. Will call again when next in the area. Thank you Dave and staff.

Stayed one rainy night early July 2024 after walking 16 miles. Two very memorable things lovely big bath with plenty of hot water and decaffeinated Yorkshire teabags in the room. The room was reasonably priced and I was allowed to view it before we accepted it. Lovely old architecture, good views, maybe the décor is a bit dated but if it was souped up they'd be charging more. Interestingly our first choice was the campsite down by the river but they had a two nights minimum rule. We also had a night in Brunswick house and two in the station campsite. Middleton in Teesdale is a great place and we will be back for the butchers.

Great lunch....haddock with lovely thin crispy batter and gorgeous white fish. Plus succulent beef ciabatta with crispy fries. All in all a lovely break by a warm log fire in a nice bar. Very tempting to stay in this hotel in a nice village in beautiful countryside.

I live in the village and regularly eat and drink here. The food is good and the Sunday lunches are fantastic. They have a good choice of drinks and have guest ales which are swapped out regularly. The only let down is the bar staff. Miserable at best, rude at worst.

The Teesdale hotel is in the heart of Middleton in Teesdale, a great place to unwind and relax, have food and drink or stay the night. The staff are welcoming and friendly, food service is great wether it's an evening meal or breakfast, quite a range to choose from including vegan options and they can even cook for people with special requirements. Parking is not an issue and free, dog friendly too. A good selection of beer's and wine to choose from also. Overall experience is fantastic.

We had an overnight BnB stay at the end of a walking weekend. The room was well equipped, with a really comfortable bed, and having a bathroom with bath was great after a long trek. Our evening meal was exceptional and the service was relaxed and friendly, -attentive without being fussy. The menu was out of the ordinary and really reasonably priced. The reception staff had forgotten to record that we wanted breakfast, but we were served quickly once the mistake was realised. The breakfast was also fantastic. I'd definitely stay again.

Disorganised chaos ! Sunday lunch with a large group. Despite having chosen food prior to our visit. Some people were waiting an hour for their meal while others had finished eating. The beef was good, with large portions of vegetables . I asked for horseradish or mustard and was assured it would arrive. It didn't! The service is the issue here. It was grim.

We stopped here for lunch on a day trip to the area as it seemed to have reasonable ratings on this site and not many other places were open due to it being a Monday. We were shown into the front dining room and we were the only ones in for a while. The room was quite sparse and not particularly welcoming, and so we didn’t expect the excellent quality food which we were served. 3 of our party of 4 has the fish and chips which were absolutely delicious- fresh white fish and lovely batter with huge chips! One of our party has liver which also got a thumbs up. The fact that they offered a small portion of fish and chips was very refreshing and welcome as my mum, late 80s, simply can’t manage a full plate. Service was good too and so we left as very happy customers.

This spot was actually a great find. The menu for a 2 star was actually really interesting and in the main cooked and presented really well. Over and above what I thought! The calamari main was a bit disjointed and all over the place, but the lamb tartare, pig cheek and lamb rack were really delicious. It was decent price and the house wine was tasty and £6 for a large glass. Staff super friendly and the actual dining room was really nice. Would for sure recommend.

The second course of the new a la carte menu ❣️x The plan is to work my way through the entire menu, my excuse is it’s great for everyone to know how good the whole experience of the Teesdale hotel is, also it’s Max’s favourite venue 😉x Last night I had ox cheeks, served with tasty champ, cherry tomatoes and some intriguing little brown dollops around the edges, which turned out to be a delicious mushroom purée (did I get that right Chef?). As usual, the plate was beautifully presented, I’m hoping to attach a photo this time, so obviously prepared with care by Raj (aka Sarge 😉) and Wendy, not sure if Mark was there last night? Front of house (haha! She’s slipping into the lingo 🤣) was Lily, Lola and Dave, the welcoming face of the establishment, pleasant, cheerful and so friendly. The meal was excellent, even if I did have to take some of it home to finish when I had enough room for it (they do serve a generous helping!), the atmosphere was cosy, Me’nMax warm beside the wood burner, and, again, the whole experience was just a perfect end to the day we’d had yesterday. Note to Dave; the tune I was looking for is Clint Eastwood 🎶, and yes, I did present my feelings in Horsemarket later last night 😉❣️

Booked a table for a Friday night and sat in the dining room. Nice welcome etc and atmosphere good. Ordered steak, burger and Cumberland sausage with bubble & squeak. Wait was reasonable and food arrived hot, but the only criticism was that there was very little bubble and squeak, I mean hardly a tablespoon full so that wasn't good value. We raised it and they said they would tell the chef, that was it, hmmn, a deduction would have been more appropriate. We didn't do dessert on principle! Everything else was fine, but knocked them down to four due to the poor portion control.

We have recently returned from a fantastic stay at the Teesdale Hotel. The village is in a lovely setting with stunning scenery all around. The front of the hotel is prominent and welcoming with lovely hanging baskets and plenty of outdoor seating. We were welcomed and checked into our rooms very efficiently (please note, the rooms are on the 1st and 2nd floors with no lift). Some reviews mention the 'traditional' or 'dated' feel to some of the rooms...this is true but it just adds to the charm of the place. We had 3 rooms between us and you could see that updates and modernisations have been taking place. Our evening meal was delicious with good choices and excellent presentation followed by a few drinks in the welcoming bar, full of locals and visitors alike. The beds were very comfortable and a good nights sleep was had by all. Breakfast was also very good with delicious hot food cooked to order. The staff throughout our stay were superb, mostly very young, all very helpful, friendly and smiling. We would not hesitate to recommend this hotel / restaurant and will definitely return when back in the area.

We went as a family, for Sunday lunch, in a dog friendly environment. The set Sunday lunch must all have been microwaved. Starter of tomato basil soup was tepid, but we did not want to complain as it was just edible. The idea was a relaxing family meal out in the countryside at a place that was a good drive from us. The main courses were nut roast and chicken with Yorkshire’s and veg. The gravy was glue like, all tepid again, overcooked veg and probably three times cooked Yorkshire’s, too solid to get your knife through! As we were there to relax and enjoy family time and had been hungry, we just ate what we could, asked for the bill, paid and went. We commented when paying, on how bad the food had been, the waiter was apologetic. The service was lovely, friendly and warm, unlike the food. I am amazed it’s a place with good reviews. Even the loo door wouldn’t shut or lock. Certainly avoid on a Sunday I’m not sure about the other days.

We ate there 4 times in a row as a family during our holidays in a first week post lockdown. It is great place if you order lamb, beef or chicken burger but if you order fish pie you will wake up in the middle of the night feeling sick. I have informed the waiter with our last meal what my previous day experience was but there was no action, goodwill or proper customer service shown. Waiter - same which assured me that fish pie was fresh previous day, has just acknowledged it. I still gave them four stars as it was one doggy meal but nevertheless I would expect some courtesy for making me unwell.Prices are affordable, £13 per burger with add ons or £9.50 for takeaway.

My wife and I hadn't visited the Teesdale Hotel before and after a superb Sunday Dinner we will certainly return again. We skipped the starters that were on offer and we both chose the roast beef and each came with a couple of Yorkshires, roasties, a rich gravy with suede, cauliflower and peas. The beef was first class, thick slices that clearly had been very slowly cooked as the meat melted in your mouth. At only £9 each the mains are tremendous value. My wife had an Eton Mess which was again very tasty and enjoyable. On arrival to this dump the manager and chef was arguing outside the main entrance, it’s policy to be as unhelpful as possible. In 10 years of staying in B&Bs and hotels With work I’ve never known anything as bad as this place, the food is shocking, the chef is very confrontational to the point the police was telephoned as it was my fault his food wasn’t fit for human consumption.I’ve stopped in some rough places but always been treated great until now, saving grace was the locals where friendly and locals fought my corner when it kicked off. When I’m with a new customer trying to make an impression I don’t expect this!!!AVOID at all costs!!

Looks like a lovely hotel/restaurant on the outside, sadly inside it's looking tired and dated, furniture carpets and walls are all old/worn. Appears to be some renovation going on (wires sticking out of walls and empty fideplace) in the restaurant but that sadly gave the place an unfinished atmosphere. The staff were lovely, helpful and friendly which always helps. The steak was perfectly cooked and large/good quality. Also great to see some vegan options, sadly the 'burger' was just slices of butternut squash and some burnt black cauliflower between bread...

We pre-booked for a lunchtime meal to celebrate our Anniversary, thinking it would be in the restaurant. When we arrived we were informed that we should place our order at the bar and that meals were served in the bar area, not sure why we were not given this information when my husband telephoned to book a table for two in the restaurant. The bar area is not the most inviting place to eat - decor tired and dated, scratched wooden tables, rusty radiators etc. We are not a fan of dogs being permitted in eating areas, there were three dogs with their owners, one whining non stop because it could smell food and another one barking at the other dogs. On the plus side the food was served hot and was okay, menu choice was in our opinion limited. Not the Anniversary lunch we thought it would be, very disappointing.

Stopped here in late September as we were staying in a cottage just a few minutes away. We visited on a Monday, where the Teesdale is one of the only establishments in the village serving food in the evening, despite this there was still space in the bar for us to order food.We ordered the blackened cauliflower starter and 2 steak and ale pies. The starter was a good size, especially as it only cost £5 - full of cauliflower, beetroot and goats cheese. Great flavour combination and presentation. The pies were also fab - packed full of meat with a great ale flavour and served with mushy peas, chunky chips and extra gravy.Only downside for me was that I was too full for a dessert!Service was quick and really friendly. The bar was also dog friendly which was great for us as we had our young dogs with us who are still getting used to trips to the pub! Staff made a fuss of them too.Really enjoyed the food and experience here and at a really reasonable price too.

Lovely southern fried chicken baguette, salad and crisps. My husband enjoyed his sausage and onion baguette with salad and fries. Nice setting. Dogs welcome too

We were so lucky, we arrived 5 minutes before the kitchen closed! Really enjoyed a ploughman’s platter and fish n chips (proper chips too) in this lovely restaurant a quaint village setting. So friendly too!

Earlier this year, I was served a burger meal, heavily burnt in kne side and with overcooked chips and onion. This time I ordered exactly the same - lamb and blue cheese burger, no bun, sweet potato fries option. This time it was superb. I've also previously had Sunday lunch which was also excellent, so I guess my first visit was on an "off" night. They have an extensive menu with many interesting vegan options and usually some specials.

I ended up in here pretty much all day after walking a little of the Peninne Way. The beer is great, food was average, but the lady behind the bar was lovely. Will visit again when I'm here next.

Had a drink or two, and a couple of meals here whilst staying in Mickleton on holiday. The decor has been mentioned in previous reviews. We loved it, like being in a time warp, just honest, old fashioned, and all the better for it. The menu is extensive and all of the meals we had between us were top notch. Very tasty, plentiful and good value. Good selection of beers always helps to and there was indeed, a good choice to be had. Will definitely call in again next time were in the area.

The good... the menu is extensive and there’s something for everyone. I had the seafood pie and my partner a pizza. Both were excellent. The menu wouldn’t be out of place somewhere quite a lot swankier. The staff are attentive and engaging. It’s a dog friendly bar and hotel. There will definitely be dogs on site. For me - this is a good thing. For others it may not be. It’s a great location. In a beautiful setting. Just down the road from High Force waterfall.

Had to find somewhere fairly central to all of us for a lunch - chose the Teesdale based on previous reviews on Tripadvisor. Almost too much choice, so the 4 of us each had something different. Veggie ploughmans was huge, imaginative choice of ingredients and nicely presented on a wooden platter. Kedgeree was 'delicious, scampi (more than the 9 or 10 common to a lot of pubs) and hand-cut chips were hot and crispy. My crab and scallop chowder was deliciously creamy and packed with crab and scallops (yes, plural).

The weather in the first week of April was very cold, so the coal fire in the bar was an added bonus. The food was spot on, especially the vegetarian/vegan Tofish and chips. The staff were friendly and helpful, all in all a very good dining experience. Cheers.

Called in for lunch. Really warm and welcoming on a wet horrible day. Menu vast, we just had sandwiches and chips which were very good. Good service. Dog friendly. Decor a little tired.

Came here for dinner. Had a couple of pints of Black Sheep and a pizza. Black Sheep was good, but the pizza was made with a shop bought base (rather than freshly made dough) and was incredibly greasy.

My husband and I were in last night with our dog. The bar was lovely and cosy with the log fire burning and tea lights on every table. We received a warm welcome from the staff and other guests and had a hearty and delicious meal. We will visit there again.

Every February we stay for a week in Romaldkirk. A visit to the Teesdale Hotel bar is always on the to do list for lunchtime drinks or drinks and a snack. Just as good as ever. As others have mentioned, warm welcome, blazing fire, good beer, excellent range of food, dogs allowed, friendly locals. We love it. Some pubs in the area shut at the beginning of the week so it's a bonus that the Teesdale is more or less "always open".

Found this charming place last night and v glad we did! The venue is quirky and welcoming. The service was attentive without being intrusive and the food was excellent, with real attention to detail. Shame it's not open again tonight.

The absolute worst carvery experience ever. Cold plates, cold food and frosty service. The staff behind the carvery moaning at each other about work. Tables too close together. You’re practically on top of the next table. On top of that, we were overcharged for an extra glass of wine we didn’t have. On raising this issue, girl on till rolled her eyes and just gave the money back, no sorry, nothing

Barman charged my card twice for a £40 transaction. I got in touch a few days later and I was ignored.

We were recommended FWDC by a friend, so we decided to go check it out, for breakfast. We arrived early, in front of us, there were only 2 people in the queue. However and to my wifes annoyance we stood and then sat for 35 minutes before being allocated a table upstairs. He were taken to a small and quirky room upstairs where there were 3 empty tables. The staff overall were pleasant, though not very attentive. Simple coffee order, was incorrect when it arrived at the table and it was barely warm. The food order arrived approximately 50 minutes from arriving at the cafe. I had the 'House Fry' and despite being very cold and hungry it was very good. The ingredients tasted great, which certainly saved a further star rating. To sum up: Would I recommend - I refer to the above Was it value for money - Not really Would I return - No Instagram has a lot to answer for!
