My favourites at no 15 are the toast & jam because it's such good toast, ditto the jam and butter, or equally, to sample the soups. You get plenty with proper bread, and some unusual homemade soup flavours. Good scones and homemade snacks too. Recommended.

We were on a weekend trip away and knew the lunch stop was Barnard Castle, so I googled Gluten Free and Vegan Restaurants. This Cafe popped up and I'm very glad we called in. Service was second to none. The manager knew she had to clean down surfaces and chopping boards when I mentioned a Gluten Free sandwich in case he was Coeliac, vegans were happy with cake and a very nice looking jackfruit sandwich, and I was totally smitten by the pesto chicken and cheese sandwich I had. The coffee will kick you into next weekend in a nice way, and Harry my English Bull Terrier thought it was epic that we didn't have to sit outside and get wet as they are dog friendly. If Carlsberg did Cafe's then this would be it!

A small, quirky venue - but lovely, homemade food in generous portions. Nothing is too much trouble and they are happy to accommodate any dietary requirements (where possible). We had 2 Americano coffees and a piece of chocolate and almond cake, whilst my husband had porridge (made with almond milk) which has granola on the top and jam and additional milk on the side. It was all scrumptious. Our whole visit cost £9.50. The coffees were £1.80 each. The porridge (with all the extras) was £2.50 and the cake was £3.40 - but it was a generous slice and absolutely delicious. The breakfast and lunch menus had decent options for vegetarians and vegans and there were gluten free cakes too.

After a wonderful walk around Bowes Museum we popped into Barnard Castle to hunt for amazing cake and fabulous coffee, it's difficult to find these things both together sometimes. We weren't disappointed, the best cake I've had out for a long time. We had two smaller slices each because we couldn't choose just one, coffee was perfect and it was all brought to us in the lovely bookshop next door. I'm taking my partner this weekend, the staff are very friendly and patient with our cake excitement. I would recommend both the cafe and bookshop, well worth taking some time out here.

It isn’t always easy to find somewhere for lunch for us - he’s vegan and I’m a carnivore. I eat vegan a lot but how nice to find this little cafe/deli that caters for everyone and very ably too. I had the chicken schwarma which was just delicious but so big. I ate half on the way home toliverpool. Hubby had the vegan breakfast bap. I tasted the scrambled tofu and it was so good. Apparently black salt makes it taste so authentic. We visited on our way to Newcastle and on our way back. We were not alone to praise them for their amazingly tasty food. Wish. Could have tried their lemon curd cake. The staff are so warm and friendly and obviously care a lot. We’ll be back with our daughter and her boyfriend. They’ll love it.

We stopped in Barnard Castle on our way to York and visited this establishment for lunch. On a positive note the coffee was very good! However, the smells coming from the kitchen due to lack of extraction were starting to make us feel nauseous and clung to our hair and clothes upon leaving. The chicken, cheese and chilli jam sandwich was a huge disappointment given the chicken was dry, hard and inedible. Sadly we wouldn’t return.

Wanting something to eat when visiting Barnard Castle recently, we happened upon Number 15; initially we rejected it but decided to give it a go. Luckily, there was a free table (there are very few) and, after a wait for sandwiches to be prepared, we were provided with, what appeared to be, home baked buns stuffed with the ordered fillings and accompanied by a fresh salad containing a good mix of ingredients. Certainly, a meal to satisfy all but a glutton. In spite of early reservations, the food and coffee were very good and good value. We would certainly return if in the town.

I'd noticed you could sit in the bookshop next door which was novel (pun intended) so grabbed a seat in their window. The drink arrived about 10 mins later and the food about 10 mins after that. Smooth drink and tasty sandwich accompanied by a fresh crunchy salad and crisps. I was welcomed immediately and decided to sit in the window seat. It is quite small inside but has a great atmosphere. The walls are papered with old musical scores, interesting foodstuffs on show and just a pleasant, general ambience to the place. The menu is quite basic but specials are written up on a display board. I plumped for a hot tuna sandwich with melted cheese and chilli jam and a medium strength coffee. My food was delicious- served with a small, lightly dressed sidesalad and potato sticks- much nicer than crisps! The bread was soft, hot , plenty of gooey filling and the chilli jam(all homemade) served in a small pot on the side. Coffee was piping hot and just what i needed. Why do so few establishments take dogs? Apart from the Caffè Nero chain they are few and far between. 15 does! It sells great coffee too! If you're in Barnard Castle try them out

I often visit this tiny cafe for coffee when I am in Barnard Castle. Although small it packs a big punch and there is always a warm welcome. It has great coffee and cakes but also an extensive daily food menu which I haven't yet tried. However, what makes it for me is the varied jazz music selected by the owners, it transforms the atmosphere into something quite special.Do try it and find out for yourself...

Order taken by a young girl who needs some customer service training as a smile goes a long way towards making a customer feel valued. Coffee, one latte and one cappuccino was delicious and the carrot and pecan cake legendary.Even able to eat outside.

Seating inside and out. Delicious coffees and scones. Cheese, walnut and date or fruit. Particularly recommend the ginger jam. Inside quant with music sheet as wallpaper and soft easy listening that isn't irritating. Car parking on hill up into town for free or other car parking is pay. Toilets are in square right out side cafe. Very pleasant owners. Pet friendly.

We came in as we were passing, attracted by the menu written on the window. I had salmon and crab parfait and my partner had the pie board. Beautifully presented, totally fresh and so unlike the usual fare you get in cafes. The staff are lovely, I would thoroughly recommend it.

Popped in after a recommendation we weren't disappointed. Simple healthy food presented exquisitely. There just aren't enough places like this, whether your sat outside on tables drinking coffee or inside having a snack in this quirky cafe. We chose the pie of day complimented with salad, pickle and Wendsleydale cheese such a super combination. Place has a great ambience, super staff and shouldn't be missed.

This cafe was recomended at the best coffee in town and it was, the cakes and scones were lush too.The relaxed and unpretentious setting and warm friendly staff made for a great experience, I only wish we had a similar place where I live.

Just passing through on Sunday afternoon on the way to the Lakes. Stopped off to have a cup of coffee and allow the dog to stretch his legs. Allowed to take our dog inside which was a bonus. The coffee was hot and tasty, the cakes were varied, well priced and delicious. Would recommend a visit.

A small cafe on the main street of the town. Very small with limited seating inside, I felt squashed between tables which made me feel uncomfortable. There are a few tables on the pavement outside, but a nice day is needed for this. Very friendly staff, the establishment was clean and hygienic. Free wifi is available. The food was nice, coffee was nice, but certainly not the best in the town. The reason I have only given three stars is because of how small and cramped it is inside.

One of the smallest eateries in town and one of the best. Always a small. Great soup and sandwich and a nice cup of coffee. Fave place for a quick lunch. Tables on the pavement too for those who like to watch the world go by.

Well what a lovely little shop for a coffee and something to eat, nice mellow music playing out and the staff are top line. A really polite and lovely little place. Nice selection of home made food to choose from, we had very tasty warm scones and cappuccino. There's a few tables to sit outside on, all in all a really friendly place and was lovely to sit there with a coffee.

I've been in a few times for tea/coffee and cake, but managed to get in for a late lunch today. Staff as friendly as ever, and the lamb and mango pie with salad and potato sticks was spot on. Nice size portion and the pie was lovely, nicely spicy.Looking forward to the monthly Bike Night next week. :)

As we sat down, we heard another customer say to her visitors, ' Have anything as it is all delicious ' and she was absolutely right. It was a tiny deli with a fantastic menu, including tapas, and wonderful focaccia with a choice of fillings. The combination of the focaccia, chicken, cheese and pesto was perfect, and one of those combinations that you still remember the taste of, just by conjuring up the venue. The afagatto gave us a fabulous espresso poured over the lightest whipped ice cream. It was perfect. I will go back just to try something else on the menu, and I would recommend No 15 to anyone visiting Barnard Castle.
