Popped in for a bite to eat and a drink. Both dog and baby friendly. Nice and quick for food to come out. Ordered some cheese on toast which wasn’t on the menu for our little one and they very happily sorted this out and provided childrens cutlery and plates.

On a recent holiday we visited The Hayloft twice. We had brunch. The cooked breakfasts are made with top quality ingredients and beautifully cooked. The service is amazing and the gent we assumed to be the landlord was very personable and enjoyed a great sense of humour. We were able to sit inside or outside in a rear terrace with our dog. Unbelievable value, we queried the cost but it was correct. We will be going there again. We'll done.

I visited the Hayloft many years ago and as I was in Barnard Castle with a colleague wanting breakfast I thought we might give it another go. It was just as I remembered it. Friendly staff serving good 'home cooked' type food. We both certainly enjoyed our breakfasts which were also very reasonable cost wise. We are both back in Barnard Castle next week so I won't be taking as long to visit again!

We had a great lunch here before visiting the antiques centre. Everything is freshly cooked so expect to wait whilst it is cooked but it was well worth the 30 mins to enjoy generous portions of tasty home made food. The veg lasagne was better than I have had in some italian restauraunts and it came with a lovely crispy salad and a good portion of chips. We liked it enough to consider going back the very next day! Everything we saw coming out of the kitchen looked very tasty.

Terrible service waited 40 minutes for a salad and a burger when I asked a waitress where our order was she said it wouldn't be long then went and sat down wouldn't have minded but people were getting served before us but didn't come into the restaurant after us,I also have to clean the table myself as there was no sign of anyone else doing it ended up asking for my money back and the way we were treated was diabolical 1 man came from the kitchen said it was 20 minutes it was 40 the waitress was so rude about it she actually threw the money at us then some old man came out of the kitchen and tried to bodily throw us out,yes I turned and let my feelings known to all the other diners. But wouldn't you

Ever stood in a town, looking casually down the road, and had someone walk up and say "just go there for lunch"...? Well, that happened twice in 5 minutes, and so we had to find out. So glad we did. The food is all home made, so none of that "fresh from the can" taste. Real food, fresh vegetables, and well sized portions. When I say well sized, we ordered a "small" lamb roast dinner, and a large beef dinner. The small lamb portion had 4 thick, large slices of lamb. The beef had something like 6 slices. The staff were all friendly, and everyone settles into a "welcome back" feeling, even if it's your first time to the county! Small tip: Sunday and Wednesday are roast meal days. Also, if you are on a budget, have a small portion.

My family have been coming to The Hayloft for lunch for several years, as we usually holiday in the area, as my husband's work place owns a cottage nearby. We have probably had everything on the menu and never been disappointed! (Very popular with locals, so arrive early.) Big portions and good value for money!!

We usually visit whenever we are in Barnard Castle but today when we went to order two roast dinners we were told they only had chips not new potatoes as advertised. Really chips with yorkshire puddings! We left and went elsehwere.

Th small but very friendly cafe, Stables, is hidden away up a passageway into a building known as the Hayloft. The food is excellent , plentiful, and very reasonably priced. There is an extensive menu and specials every day, although you have to get there early for these as local people go every day for lunch and the special soon gets sold out. Do visit this cafe when you are in Barnard Castle - I'm sure you won't regret it. You can also browse the shop to the left as you go in (they have wonderful homemade produce), and up the stairs for all sorts of weird and wonderful things.

Stayed in Room 4 for an evening whilst in the area. Great find, room was spotless and very comfy. Bed (king size in this room) was also fantastic. Had evening meal with friends and this was great - chips to die for! Very reasonably priced. Yes, it (the room) was maybe laid out strangely but that didn't distract imo. All about the food and service which both first class. Pay the extra for the breakfast - you won't be disappointed! Lots of choice.
