This is a pleasant place for lunch when visiting the falls. It was very busy but the staff were kind and attentive. We would recommend the veggie burger and the soup and sandwich deal. It's a leisurely stroll from the hotel to the falls, which are well worth a visit in the autumn.

A lovely walk to the waterfall which was amazing to see following plenty of rain ! Had booked for Sunday lunch which was beautiful, however £20.50 for a large Merlot and a pint of Peroni is very expensive . Add to that £3 to park even if you weren’t visiting the waterfall it makes an expensive lunch . We were going to stay for another drink in the bar area after our meal , obviously the prices put us off doing this !!!

As a vegetarian I don't often go out for a roast dinner so when we arrived in the morning and enquired about lunch as we bought tickets for visiting the waterfall I was very excites to hear they had a nut roast option. Staff were very helpful and when we returned later we were seated quickly and had no wait for service throughout our visit. The food itself was superb, perfectly cooked and really tasty with very generous portions at a very reasonable price! If I had one complaint it would be that a 10% service charge is automatically added to the bill, a practice I'm not keen on in general, though I would have been happy to leave a tip here anyway.

Like several others have commented, this is a lovely roadside inn with lots of attractive features. However, I am afraid that £18.40 for a large glass of wine and a pint of cider is taking the proverbial and dusting it with unadorned cheek. I know pubs are under pressure to survive these days, but charging such ridiculous prices is surely a one way ticket to an otherwise unjustified demise. Perhaps the Raby estate is in need of some investment but this is not the way to go about it. I’m sorry but we won’t return.

This is such a cute spot. Just opposite the entrance to the the high force waterfall. The decor is very elegant. We were immediately greeted by a very friendly and helpful member of staff. The dining room is very regal however quite small. We were a group of five and they had to push tables together so maybe not suited to larger groups however they were very accommodating. The menu is pricy but the food is worth it. I had a fish finger sandwich for £10 and it came with chips. It was so nice I wish I could have another one. I was expecting frozen fish fingers with some bread but it was homemade fish fingers which were so fluffy and delicious. It then had lettuce and homemade tartar sauce which was a tad lemony but very nice. Whoever was in charge of the playlist that day was very good as they put disney songs in the background that made the room feel even more magic. Would highly recommend after looking at the beautiful waterfall.

Was so looking forward to this trip, looked a lovely hotel in the middle of nowhere, some negative comments re pricing, but mostly good, unfortunately a catalogue of issues made us cut our 2 night stay to only 1. Arrived early to pick up our included tickets to Raby Castle, there were waiting staff taking several plates of Sunday roasts back from the restaurant room to the kitchen, with another member of staff shouting at them "take them back, they've not had their starters yet" should have known it was a bad omen for the stay. Had an excellent trip to Raby Castle, checked in, room small but ok, mismatched furniture, the bathroom was clean but on closer inspection the room could have been cleaner, very dusty by bed and back of the doors on paneling. Went down for dinner at 7, all areas felt cold, (been nasty weather, rainy and cool wind), especially the large restaurant room. Only 5 tables of couples were eating in the restaurant so it was 3/4 empty. To cut a long story short, issues with availability of meals after taking order, 45 mins wait for food from first order taken, dishes to wrong tables, small portions too, was shambollic. Sat in cold restaurant for over 1.5 hours. No customers in the bar after meal, also cold, so went up to our room, now cold too. Asked for heating to be put on. Both had a restless night, woke up very thirsty, not normal for us, can only conclude food was quite salty as we ate different dishes and no other reason for this. Woke up 7am by loud music from the bar, breakfast starts at 8am so thanks for the early wake up! Woke up to cold room again. Breakfast was in bar area that day, lot of dog floof on floor from Sunday, not been swept. Unfortunately a very, long blonde hair mixed in with the yoghurt museli kilner jar was the nail in the coffin, spoke to manager who we had already spoke to previous day to cancel the booking. On check out the young blonde lady behind the bar was quite huffy with us. Sorry, if things aren't right we are going to tell you, it's not a cheap place to stay and certain standards were expected, but not delivered.

Sometimes a place can be so close to your heart, that you dont want to post on Tripadvisor, for fear it will become too busy. For me, this is that place. But you guys in the Tripadvisor community have helped me so much with your reviews i feel i have to give something back. If you are an international visitor i can say "hand on heart" this is the true taste of what the UK is all about. Combine this with Raby/Kynren/Waterfall/Bowes this is proper England and ten times the value for money you will get anywhere else. I often come in this hotel to buy my fishing tickets (the local trout fishing is excellent for those who are good on fly, fishermen DM me). But after a day fishing finishing 8pm I usually drive straight home straught past the hotel (and other amwnities) back to Northern Durham. I decided bring my partner (not into fishing) for a couple weekend getaway and had a smashing weekend. The hotel gets you complimentary acess to both the waterfall and Raby Castle and deerpark. If you are from the uk why not book a saturday night, and do waterfall one day castle the other? A whole weekend of hidden gems for the price of one night accomodation. Absolute bargain. We checked in Saturday 1st June 3 30pm. So easy to park up out front and escorted to room and get complimentary tickets to hit the waterfall. Only a short but enchanting walk to the waterfall. Majority coukd walk it easy, wheelchair accesible too. The waterfall area is a bit rocky if youvwanted to picnic but plenty of good size rocks to sit all dat. You can see the waterfall from main path with zero effort. The waterfall is certainly best in UK (sorry Scots better than anything in Scotland). The Mayfly were hatching on Saturday and made it even more magic. Must see for all. Saturday night i had fish and chips from hotel restaurant battered to perfection and fantastic meal. Girlfriend had the curry which was pick of the menu, so good, fantastic meal. Cute little room witb a fantastic shower and sink in mattress. The staff at the hotel were a testament to the estate. This is a small hotel (11 rooms) ao same people on check in, bar, waiting. Perfect cystomer servicce not too much not too little, but always personable and helpful. Special credit to the bearded gentleman on Sat 1st june who led the dining and was spot on start to finish. Also the lady supporting in dining who my parter advised made a perfect passionfruit martini and was chatty ans helpful. After a couple of Theakstons (excelkent bitter) i slept like a baby. Teesdale breakfast was genuinley excellent. And onto castle en route home. See seperate review for Raby Castle but wow... The most imnaculatley kept castle i have visited, consudering tbe historical importance from 1100s onwards. A castle with such unbeleivable 1000 years history... Room stewards so enthusiastic and the best and up there with chillingham castle (another gem if you are touring). The Raby castle grounds truly beautiful and castle your most genuine " englamd" backdrop. The besr deer park too. In summary cannot recomend highly enough!

Very unfriendly service! We thought we’d head in for a bite to eat after a walk, and although there was plenty of seating available we were asked by an older ‘gentleman’ whether we had a table booked… when we said no, he mocked us, like we were ridiculous for even walking in the pub without a booking at the weekend. I mean, we’re ever so sorry for thinking we might be able to eat at a popular tourist spot… Terrible attitude, and overpriced food. Suggest they only allow walk-in service. Seems silly to turn people away at a half-full pub! Won’t be back.

No argument about how pleasant the environment is…..but £21 for a pint of lager and a glass of wine is absolutely scandalous. I had been in the West End of London the previous week and paid £16 for exactly the same. Just doesn’t weigh up!

We went in here for lunch after visiting High Force waterfall. When I looked at the menu I thought it was slightly expensive but I think you get what you pay for. We enjoyed the food we had here which was very tasty. I had the fish and chips partly because I was curious as to what pea puree might be (and how this might differ from the more standard mushy peas!). In this, I was disappointed as they hadn't had their peas delivered on this particular day. At least other visitors will now know that the pea puree is freshly made! The fish and chips were served on a plate that was covered with a pseudo front page of the New York Times which is definitely quirky! Presumably, this makes the plates easier to wash after the meal. I had to be careful where the paper tore as I was eating but did not end up eating any! My partner had the mushroom risotto and said it was delicious. I would definitely go here again for a meal if I were to visit the falls again.

As four friends we chose to eat at a different restaurant every month, March was The High Force Hotel. It’s beautifully decorated, highlighting it as a country destination without the artificial intrusion of rural ornamentation. The staff are friendly, efficient and welcoming, by their attitude they obviously enjoy their work. The food’s very good, I had a lovely vegan burger and a gorgeous (locally sourced ice cream) sundae. My friends were equally impressed with their food, ham, eggs chips and fish and chips, a great lunchtime meal. Reasonably priced and a great atmosphere

Me and my husband came here after a 2.5 hour drive to see the waterfall and to have some lunch. We knew after looking online that it wasn't typical and cheap 'pub food' which was fine, as you would assume that with a hefty price the food would be michelin star quality. It wasn't bad or awful, but the prices are ridiculous. £16.50 for a roast dinner, with 2 tiny roast potatoes and a very small 'jug' of gravy. My husband did enjoy it, and I did try some of his pork which granted; was beautiful and cooked to perfection. But it was no better than something you would get from a standard help yourself carvery. I had the chocolate brownie sundae, which was an absolute let down and a rip off for £8! First of all, it wasn't a sundae, it was in a very small bowl. Second of all, it was 7 blueberries, a small scoop of supermarket chocolate ice cream and a few mini brownies. Extortionate for what it was and an absolutely tiny portion. Nice decor and nice ideas, but just didn't live up to expectations unfortunately. And I'm really sorry to say but the majority of the staff we felt were inattentive with not the best people skills, apart from one young lady with blonde hair who was really lovely and polite. The rest of staff that we interacted with including the gentleman on front of house seemed a little blunt and didn't want to interact with us. Not a bad experience as such, but I probably wouldn't come here again.

Visited today after a walk to the waterfalls. The staff behind the bar at first said they were fully booked but they did say that our party of six could have a table that was booked out as long as we vacated by 2pm. It was 12.15 at this point so had every confidence we would. Our order was taken fairly quickly but it was around 45-50 mins before our meals arrived. We did start to panic a little because our table was limited time wise, however, in spite of our meal coming out quite late, we did finish with 20 mins to spare. The food ( two x trio of meat roasts, one nut roast, one children’s roast and ciabatta ) was all delicious. Couple of minor issues….we had to ask for more gravy as there was only a small amount poured onto the plate when it was served ( I did find that odd though as not everyone has gravy) and the ciabatta came out which was more like a torpedo bread bun so disappointed that it wasn’t a traditional Italian ciabatta as led to believe. All in all, nice meals

The visit was very enjoyable and despite poor weather and only staying one night I found the staff very accommodating and nothing was too much trouble. We loved it here! We found it using brit stops so went inside for a roast dinner and stayed the night in our camper in the car park. The roast dinner was probably the best I've ever had, they had plenty of options including a vegan nut roast, such a tasty menu. The path to the waterfall is opposite and we managed to get in early with the dogs in the morning and had it all to ourselves, it was about half an hour before it was supposed to open and they kindly let us in a bit early, we went for a coffee in the morning (they also had soya milk available) as I needed to use the WiFi for work and the staff are so nice and accommodating. I would definitely recommend this restaurant and overnight car park, the waterfall and walking trail is amazing and it's a great place to stop overnight with dogs, lots of walking trails, toilets at the car park too.

Paid to park as we were going to the falls then went into the hotel bar to purchase the tickets. The staff were really friendly and it was lovely and warm in there. As we'd eyed up the cakes on the bar we called in for tea and cake after our circular wall to High Force falls. Dog friendly in the bar, and we were offered comfy armchairs by the fire. Again, staff were brilliant and after a cracking pot of tea and some delicious cake we got some good directions for another circular walk which took us down to Low Force falls and then back up to the top of High Force.

Firstly, on a positive when we first walked in it felt lovely and warm as there were 2 fires lit near the entrance however things went downhill from there. We were taken through to the main dining room which was absolutely freezing and very uninviting by a very unfriendly man. We tried to engage in conversation re our journey but he was not interested at all and made no attempt to chat with us. Upon taking our food order I asked what the vegetables were to accompany the Sunday lunch to which he replied I don’t know. How can he not know or make the effort to find out what is on offer. This to me lacks attention to detail for providing good customer service. The menu said meats on offer were ham, beef, pork and turkey. My partner went for the trio requesting beef, pork and turkey to be then told it was chicken not turkey. When the food arrived it was luke warm and it didn’t help that the plates weren’t warm either. I ate my food (which wasn’t particularly appetising apart from the Yorkshire puddings) so quickly that I gave myself indigestion! We were in and out in 30 minutes which says it all. The chicken also turned out to be a chicken drumstick. I have never seen a drumstick on a Sunday lunch before and I would suggest in future customers are made aware of this. No one came to ask if everything was ok during our meal nor even when he removed our plates. The same rude waiter didn’t ask if we wanted any more drinks or dessert so I asked for the bill. We eat out regularly but have never been to a restaurant where a member of staff has made us feel so unwelcome and disinterested in us as customers and we shall never return.

We stayed the night at the hotel and had booked for dinner, bed and breakfast. The food was excellent. For starters my wife had a tomato and mozzarella salad that was as tasty as any we've had, and I had a potted prawn dish with fresh crusty bread. For mains she had a warm lamb salad which was delicious, and I chose moules frites. The mussels were juicy and fresh - in fact all of the food was as fresh as could be and mostly locally sourced. For dessert we both chose sticky toffee and date pudding which filled us up enough that regretfully we were unable to sample the cheese platter! Service was prompt, accurate and cheerful. For breakfast the next day, my wife had perfectly poached eggs on toast, and I went for the full English. Although this had a long list of ingredients, it was for me sensibly sized so I was left feeling pleasantly full rather than stuffed. Like the evening meal, all of the ingredients were locally sourced - notably my fried duck egg was supplied by one of the hotel team! It was one of the best hotel breakfasts I can remember eating and fuelled me very nicely for the 20 mile bike ride we were about to do. As with the actual stay, this was definitely an experience we intend to repeat.

It’s the first time I’ve been back since it’s wee makeover and it’s lovely but the food is pricey. At £8.25 a sandwich it feels a little over the top! I ordered ham, chips and egg. We visited on a Tuesday lunchtime which should have been quiet. Unfortunately, the hotel had a power cut the night before and was only serving sandwiches and soup (fine with us - that's what we wanted). Then an unexpected huge crowd of walkers arrived, ordering food and drinks in ones and twos. Needless to say, with only one person serving at the bar (most of the time) and delivering the food as well, it got a bit chaotic. But we were warm and dry. Our sandwiches eventually arrived and were very tasty - as was the beer.I agree with previous reviewers about the difficulty with the car park - the ticket says you should leave it in the car, but then you need the ticket to get the refund in the hotel (husband dashed out to retrieve it). Also you should pay within 10 mins of entering (and you need to remember your reg no). I'm sure we dithered much longer than that.

I booked a star gazing night for my husbandsbirthday and this pub was the meeting point. We arrived an hour or so early with no dinner reservation but the manager (despite there being a large family booking) managed to squeeze us in. We both had the burger and chips - the portions were huge and delicious. My husband said his pint was good too. The star gazing down by the waterfall was really great and it was nice to go back to the pub afterwards with its dark cosy rooms and roaring fire. It is a really lovely location and I will have to come back when it is light to appreciate it. My only slight issue was that paying for the parking was a bit of a faff (the cost of which can be redeemed against purchase of drinks/ meal). Went in to the hotel for change then needed to go back later and present the ticket. Normally this wouldn’t bother us but it was baltic outside and we had parked a couple mins walk away. I get that the hotel have to do this to stop people using and abusing the car park without paying but we prefer to do everything by card if possible (rather than ringing the number or paying in cash) This will be a great place to return to in the summer.

Called in for Sunday lunch. 2 adults and 3 children. Service was polite but for some reason from ordering it took 30 minutes for our meals to come out. There appeared to be no reason for this as everyone around us were getting their meals. The dinner was just above par, The roast potatoes were lovely as was the creamed leek. I wasn't keen on the tomato courgette side and think a more traditional broccoli or cauliflower would have been a better choice. On all 5 plates the lids on the Yorkshire puds were burnt. This is a major no no for me as personally a good Yorkshire pud makes a Sunday dinner. Due to the wait for the main we decided to skip pudding.

After a short walk to see the waterfall spent a rainy afternoon here. Very friendly and informative staff. Delicious roasted root and rosemary soup and fresh crusty bread, sat in front of a real fire. Would definitely recommend.

Left feeling disappointed, had a lovely long walk in the area and the pub had a lovely setting. Great interior and fires! But unfortunately we did not feel welcomed all, after buying a drink each we felt watched and uncomfortable. No customer service whatsoever from the male serving us, which was a shame as we were hoping to get food as it looked great and the menu looked good. We had to leave and look elsewhere.

We spent hours walking around the beautiful waterfall and after decided to go to this establishment for food and drink. This didn’t happen because of the looks and the snotty comments from the bar staff. Would not recommend the hotel or bar but the walk was excellent. What a shame especially as there was 12 of us.

The hotel has been under new management for a couple of months and is under a refurbishment, so will also be popping back again next year. Excellent staff, excellent service, very comfortable and nice bedrooms, great setting, great beer and lovely grub. What more do you need? We really enjoyed our stay here, and will be regulars on our drives up to Scotland.

The meal was relatively pricey and the selection of vegetables was poor. The portions were small. The pudding, however, was plentiful, but did not taste good. This hotel takes advantage of its location. It has a monopoly and so does not need to try to please guests. We visit different pubs every Sunday and this was the most pricey and the least quality meal.

Visited on Saturday after walking from Middleton-in-Teesdale and we weren’t disappointed, we ordered ploughman’s platter, high Force burger ( this was for my husband next time he’d ask for it well done as he prefers his burgers well cooked not pink in the middle, just his preference ) and fish fingers with chips for our daughter along with a scone, a slice of cake and drinks .

Would not recommend this restaurant at all! Me and my partner walked into the restuarant on a late afternoon after visiting the waterfall and doing the 2 hour trek to Low force also. We we met with two ladies standing behind the bar who didn't acknowledge us until we asked whether we could sit down for some hot food, they weren't very responsive at all and we had to ask whether we could have some drinks to start! They pointed to a table for us to sit at. My partner then went back up to the bar to order the food, which then took around 30 minutes to come (pretty poor considering it was very quiet). My lasagne was extremely chewy, suggesting maybes it was undercooked, and also there was barely any actual mince meat in it. My partners burger was overdone taking away all taste.

Stopped in for warm up and bite to eat.Expected a cosy open fire at this time of year but that wasn't working.Ordered a coffee ,fruit scone, beer and chips.the coffee and beer were good but the scone seemed stale and possibly microwaved to disguise that. The chips which were £3.50 were awful even though they were not frozen. They were soggy under cooked even though brown.Like the scone they were not fresh.Suspect not cooked by a chef ,or a poor one.Anything served in a hotel of this type should be done well however small or simple. If you cannot cook a decent bowl of chips you should not be in the kitchen...especially at that price!!.Will not be returning, even to use the toilets which they charged 50p for if you were not a customer.Disappointed!

As we heard that the hotel had been refurbished our expectations were fairly high. Sorry to say that we were however disappointed. I don't normally give negative reviews but the salad looked hastily put together, the corned beef pie pastry was so hard on the bottom to cut through. The ploughmans boiled egg appeared to have been cooked several hours previously and the pork pie shop bought. We were also missing coleslaw which was on the menu but not on the plate. Unfortunately there was no one around to ask. It is a pity they don't source local produced food as many other eateries do in the area. Sorry but won't be in a hurry to return.

The location of the restaurant is very convenient if you are visiting the waterfall. We asked prior to our walk could they cater for someone who is gluten free and they were really positive that they could. When we arrived we ate our Sunday dinner in the tea room as they said it was the same menu. When the gluten free roast arrived it was just meat and some roast potatoes they said that that I couldn't have the gravy or the Yorkshire puddings. Luckily some extra veg arrived. It was the closest thing I've had to school dinners in years!! The roast potatoes tastes like they had been reheated in the microwave. The woman with blonde hair in the tea room was very sharp with customers and passed a lot of the work onto people at the main bar and kept getting her phone out! The small bit that I can say was good about the restaurant was the young male waiter. He was friendly, knowledgeable and seemed to do an awful lot compared with the other staff members!! Overall it's convenient and is fine but I wouldn't recommend especially if you are gluten free.

We had stopped off to visit the famous High Force waterfall 1/2 mile down a path the opposite side of the road. Afterwards we decided to take pot luck and grab a quick drink before moving on. It looks a big rambling place from outside, and it was shown as a Theakstons pub.

Seven of us ordered and were told there'd be a wait because there were so many orders in. There may have been a few people eating in the bar but we were the only ones in the. Restaurant. One of our party said 'he's not a natural landlord' which is the understatement of the year. The food looked great but my scampi tasted as if it was cooked in oil used a little too often, , which gave it that awful taste! Two of us tasted the coleslaw then didn't eat anymore of it. Won't be eating there again.

We had walked up to high force from Middleton-in-Teesdale and we're looking forward to a beer and some food. I ordered a pint for myself (which was fine) and 1/2 of Theakstone grouse beater which was dreadful. I returned the half and the landlord asked if I had had grouse beater before and that was how it was supposed to taste. The land lord would not try it and I had to pay for another half of a different beer which was fine.He was so rude in his tone and attitude we decide to not order food and left hungry. We will not be breaking our walks at the High Force Hotel in the future.Langdon Beck and Strathmore arms are much better and staff are great.

My mam has strong memories of Teesdale, after wartime evacuation from Sunderland. She uses a wheelchair, but we had a good trip to High Force today. The staff at the High Force Hotel were really helpful and pro-active with access. The food is good quality homemade pub fare. I have fond memories of corned beef and onion pie as a kid, and the one served here didn't disappoint. Some of the negative reviews here seem quite harsh. This isn't a chain, and we should be supporting local independents!

Ordered a Ploughman's Lunch which was awful. Tomatoes soft and past their SB date as were the pickled onions. The lettuce was brown and bruised and the pickle cheap and nasty the ham and Pork Pie the same. Crusty bread was supposed to be included but what turned up was sliced white sawdust. Staff rude and very unhelpful. By all means visit the waterfall but don't waste your hard earned money in this pub.

Lovely setting and after a walk to high force with family who had travelled up from London to spend weekend celebrating a family birthday we all decided to eat at lunchtime here. Food was the worst I have ever had in a pub in England . Chips were disgusting soggy as I they had clearly been leftovers from the da before . None o my adult kids could eat the chips . Ploughmans meal was a joke - grey boiled egg, fizzy coleslaw and fresh roll was a cheap precut burger bap. Ruined what had been a fab weekend . Avoid food at all cost .

We stopped off here for lunch, half-way round a circular walk from Bowlees visitor centre. The staff were very friendly and the menu looked OK. But unfortunately, this was a really disappointing meal: both our orders came with chips which appeared to have been cooked several hours beforehand and kept warm under a lamp. Soggy, limp, disgusting... and the corned beef pie had really thick, hard pastry - virtually inedible. So - despite the friendly staff, I couldn't recommend this place to anyone except the desperate.

I visit this fine hostelry regularly, always to be met with a warm and friendly welcome by Jan, Kev and all the team. Fine cask ales, well kept by their excellent cellar-man (employing the same system used by a familiar brewery in Masham...) and lovely freshly prepared-to-order food (served with home-made chips) all at a very reasonable price. Service is efficient and attentive. Facilities are always clean and tidy. Always a comfortable and relaxing atmosphere and very good value for your money.

Went to High Force waterfall, took us ages to get there,so it was lunchtime when we arrived. Went for food here first, not very busy, lovely welcome from behind the bar, food ordered and we went and sat down. Literally 10 minutes later and it arrived! Home made corned beef pie, chunky home made brown chips and garden peas with gravy for me and cheeseburger and chips with salad and coleslaw for hubby. The chips were fab, as was the pie, very tasty, two meals and two drinks for under £20, lovely.

My fiancée and I stopped off here while walking between Bowlees Visitor Centre and High Force (waterfalls). We only had a snack so cannot comment on the quality of their main restaurant meals. We ordered scones, with cream and jam. The scones were okay. The jam was jam, in a little sealed container. The cream was the 'squirty cream' type; basically white tasteless froth. My fiancées Orange was squash not juice. Nowadays it just isn't acceptable to serve such poor quality food and drink. The cost of £9.40 for this, plus a beer, would have been reasonable, if the food and drink were okay. But it wasn't.

I last reviewed this place in 2019 where my main issue was poor service and would you believe it things haven't changed. Service today was non existent. We were seated for over 10 minutes .... Not even a greeting. Front of house totally disorganised. It's a wonder the floor covering wasn't worn out because of the too-ing and fro-ing which never seemed to produce anything. This service is the worst I've experienced anywhere.. Cone on.... Get a grip !

Parking is plenty and is a one way system, so don't try to get to the front out of laziness or you could get stuck during busier times and end up having to go back out and round into the main dual carriage way and roundabout if there is too much traffic. The parking is free and it is a gravel car park . As you enter there is a sign to wait to be seated, but don't wait if there are plenty of seats, as you'll be there forever. I think the sign should be put away during quiet times and brought out in busier times. Once seated it's easy to order, choose what you want from the menu and go to the counter (remember what your table number is). Massive cake/sweet selection at the till area so I suggest having a look there as well for sure! At first glance £4(something) for a Melba is a bit much but then when you see the size of it, it's fair. Delicious too! They have take away boxes as well, yum! The last time I went I tried the hot beef bap and it was really good, no chewy, gristle or fatty bits in the meat at all. Spot on. Time before was the cheese pie which I absolutely loved (my lactose intolerant body however rejected it, but was still worth it and I'll do it again NGL). The majority of the staff are lovely, I've never felt anyone has been rude (even when they seemed to be having a crappy and busy day). Have been a few times now and definitely will go again. Edit: it's also (well behaved) dog friendly.

A hidden gem of a pub. We were recommended by a friend to seek out this place just off the main road between the Eden Arms Roundabout and Newton Aycliffe. Good friendly staff. Food was lovely .Little Jill had the Pie of the day, Chicken and Ham, I had the Gammon. Both were really lovely. The only gripe i had was the overflowing wall mounted cigarette bin at the main door it was unsightly and off putting to us non smokers. Maybe move it or empty it more often. Only a little gripe and will not put us off returning.
