Absolutely beautiful hotel. The Forge was the nicest hotel room we've ever stayed in and the hot tub was divine. The staff were all so friendly and attentive and the pet experience was the best £15 I've ever spent! We will definitely be back!!

Great customer service, but we ordered jam and cream scones and ended up with rock cakes instead, nice but not what we were expecting, the coffee was cold to.

Location is lovely. Went for a walk to Causey Arch before heading to the Inn for food (we didn’t have a booking). Food was good; large portions, tasty & reasonably priced for what you got. Staff were great; very friendly & welcoming. Will be going back.

I think I’m the only one who finds the South Causey completely over rated. Now, don’t get me wrong, the venue is gorgeous and the staff are good, however, the food is very average and expensive. We came for a family birthday night and as a 4 person family ordered 1 starter, 2 kids meals, 2 mains, 3 soft drinks and 1 pint, which came to an eye watering £85. We go out for meal regular so know the price of things nowadays but i just felt completely underwhelmed by the “ok” food which cost a fortune. I just feel that it is quantity over quality. Just my opinion.

Best breakfast I’ve ever had. The quality of the food was second to none. The staff were all lovely and couldn’t do enough to help, especially Sue and Danielle. I will be back without a doubt.

Stayed overnight after a beautiful wedding in the Durham suite. South causey inn is a great and beautiful spot, it has so many things to offer whilst you're here. Definitely recommend even if it was just for a meal in the restaurant

We stayed in the courtyard double room the beginning of October the room was immaculate and so much value for money love the south causey inn wouldn’t use another hotel 100% recommend as the staff are lovely and friendly the foods amazing what’s not to love ❤️

Went for a meal this evening and couldn't fault anything. The food was amazing and the portion sizes are huge. We were served by Bruno and were looked after very well and felt truly valued. Thanks for the great experience. Will definitely be back .

Had a brilliant nights sleep. Comfy beds, spacious room. Booked through Pets Pyjamas and so our dog was also well looked after, with a bed, treats and bowls supplied. Fantastic Sunday roast yesterday and gorgeous breakfast cooked to order. And to top it all off, feeding the alpacas and sheep this morning was such a perfect way to top off the last day of our holiday. Oh and not forgetting, all the people working there were so friendly and helpful 🥰 highly recommend you visit 👌

Attended a friend’s wedding and not disappointed. The whole team from welcome drinks, ceremony and catering/bar staff at the reception were excellent. The venue and setting was beautiful and the whole event was faultless. There was a medical emergency prior to the ceremony and the staff were so sympathetic and attentive, thank you. The food at the reception was wonderful and plentiful. Would highly recommend this venue for a wedding event.

After speaking to someone on the phone 2 weeks prior I was advised that fish & chips were on the menu on the bank holiday!!!! After looking at menus at other restaurants/ pubs we said we would all love to visit south causey. Mam loves her fish & chips so we decided on this venue. Also we were thinking of going on the Sunday but unfortunately they only had a Sunday menu on. Mam was taking us all out so it was a special day for her and family!!! So what a let down!!!! Especially after not being able to go anywhere else at that time. Unfortunately all fully booked. Mam ended up eating scampi wish she didn't really like. Complete waste of a day & get together.

We attended here recently for my sisters wedding. The venue is stunning with gorgeous surroundings. The room my sister had the ceremony in was gorgeous, it had a rustic feel and was coordinated perfectly. The gardens were the perfect area for photographs and a few drinks. Andrew - the master of ceremonies was amazing. He was on hand for everyone's needs without having to be asked. The food served was delicious and the portion sizes were generous. We didn't stay but I looked at the room my mum was staying in and they are decorated beautifully. Stephanie, the wedding manager has been attentive and it is clear from correspondence with her that they strive for absolute perfection for each wedding they host. I would love to attach photos but the bride and groom have requested we wait until they receive the official photos from their photographer.

We had Sunday roast dinner and it was delicious. The selection of meat was good and you can choose between one meat or more. The gammon was exceptionally good. The selection was Beef,chicken,pork and gammon. Yorkshire puddings and all the vegetables, mash and roast potatoes were in plenty. The gravy is to die for and you can have more if you ask. A good thing is you can take home what you can't eat. The tapas during the week are also lovely with a good selection. It may feel a bit pricey but it is worth it. The service is always very good and nothing is a bother. Very friendly staff and lovely atmosphere. We will be back soon!

We visited here for a friends function at the Hot Spot bar - lovely covered outdoor area with heaters and excellent bar staff, loads of seating! We chose to just have a standard room due to knowing we wouldn’t be spending much time in it, cosy comfortable room with all the amenities you’d need. Excellent shower! Breakfast is really great and a good selection. Would absolutely visit again!

We booked for 2 nights; the first for our anniversary and the second for a family wedding. Bit disappointed we had to take the twin room due to price as we were quoted £900 for a double and could not afford that. Nevertheless, it was an amazing stay. The staff at the front desk were very welcoming, as were all staff. Our room was cosy with a lovely big shower and air con, which was a god send. Breakfast was delicious and served quickly with croissants while we waited. The wedding was very well orchestrated and ran very smoothly and is a beautiful venue

The rooms are very comfortable and stylish the service is fantastic a bit of the better track but u still get there but bus and the food isvto die for the portions are plenty and delicious and try there scorers I buy them every time I go to takeaway u het cheece fruit and cream perfect for tea

Got married here on the 14th of July at the Old Barn. Couldn't have been more of a perfect fairytale of a day. The staff were incredible, the food was delectable and our coordinator Lauren was outstanding! Looking forward to our anniversary stay, you really pulled out all the stops and made our special day, magical and what will be the fondest moment of our lives. We attended a wedding and stayed in the Causey cottage. Check in was quick and easy and we were shown to our room. The room was clean and exactly what we were after. The kids even had a fruit shoot and a snack on their beds which was a lovely touch. The bed was comfy and the private hot tub a really nice addition. We even watched a euros football match in the jacuzzi bath with the TV on the wall opposite. EV charging was also really easy using the podpoint app and was just opposite our room.

Came for afternoon tea - absolutely wonderful. Delicious, well presented and had an overall lovely time.

Nice, quirky rooms. The food was excellent. The staff were excellent and went the extra mile to ensure the guests were looked after. The venue is well worth a a visit, ideal for special private events.

Stayed here whilst on business for 2 nights - a warm welcome from all staff - room was spotless and well equipped. Breakfast and dinner was amazing. Nothing was too much trouble.

South Causey Inn. 2 adults plus grandson. Vegan roast was vegan sausages. Hot bap (14.95!!!) was cold meat and warm gravy. Kids meal - now I know what dirty fries are. So many grey eyes in them. All fairly unpalatable. Wine wasn’t overpriced. Everything else was.

We stayed here in our Motorhome to visit Beamish Museum . We pre booked dinner for a sitting at 19.00 on a Thursday night The setting was lovely and we were allowed to bring our dogs with us into a dog friendly area in one of the dining areas The service was brilliant and quite quick Chloe, the girl in charge of looking after us was outstanding with her professionalism and friendliness and is a credit to this establishment The food was excellent. A starter of delicious meatballs from the light bites menu followed by the best meat feast Pizza I have ever had. The amount of quality toppings was unbelievable and whoever cooked it to perfection deserves the highest praise Unfortunately it was that big and well topped I wasn’t able to finish it All in all this place is brilliant and I would so highly recommend it Top marks all round

Always a warm welcome, with excellent attentive staff along with great food and an excellent, extensive menu, that ensures there is “just the thing” you fancy. Always a pleasant experience and a consistency that is now seldom found. Well done everyone.

No food option for someone on a low cal diet.

Amazing restaraunt, staff members are very nice and the food comes very quickly. Although the portions are extremely large. Instead of just a slice of cheesecake for dessert around half of a cheesecake was received and instead of a brownie there were 2 brownies and ice cream and jam. The main meal was the same price as the dessert, but overall I really enjoyed it. Just a little bit too much to handle, if you would like a dessert, I recommend getting a kids main, they are a usual adults portion whilst the adult portions are doubled. Pricing was high £120 for 4 lemonade, 2 pints, 2 large glasses of wine, a kids pizza, fish and chips, cheesy pasta, chicken and bacon burger and mango cheesecake, cookie and cream sandwhich and chocolate brownie.

Had corned beef pie and the pastry was soft and mushy. The filling was dark brown and stodgy. Not the best for the price. It definitely was cooked fresh.

Had a wonderful day at my sons wedding.

Went for a wedding and meal afterwards, the venue for the wedding was lovely and the wedding breakfast was delicious. Only let down was the fact that some of us were gluten and dairy intolerant and we kind of had to edit dishes to meet our needs.

When we arrived we were checked in by Ross on reception who was so friendly and patient while answering all of our questions! (Also provided very speedy prosecco to the room!) Thank you for being so welcoming! Lee on the bar constantly had us covered with a steady supply of drinks to keep us going throughout the day! Excellent service and very friendly! Thank you for looking after us and our guests! We would also like to thank the waiting staff who served everyones meals quickly and smoothly! And of course, helped Lee to keep everyone's glasses full! We can't forget to mention the chefs and kitchen team for our delicious food through the day! Last but certainly not least - we would like to thank our wonderful wedding coordinator Lauren! She did an amazing job of keeping us calm and ensuring everything on the day ran smoothly! She completely took all the stress out of the day for us by ensuring we were where we needed to be at the right times and was only a message away if we needed anything else. She even loaned me her coat to go out and get photos as it was so cold and rainy! Nothing felt too much to ask! Thank you for everything Lauren! Thanks again to everyone - we would highly recommend the venue to anyone for a meal or a wedding! Beautiful setup, amazing service & tasty food! We will be back soon!

Ordered a 10oz sirloin steak was bang average. Added the garlic & chilly prawns as a side. £8.95. Told the waitress they didnt even have any taste and was told theirs nothing they can do about it. £4.95 for peppercorn sauce too which again is average. £50 for a meal only worth £30. Definitely not worth the money and definitely need to up the standards of food.

Went to celebrate our sister/sister in law's 80th birthday for afternoon tea, couldn't fault, we were in a pod, which was really spacious and warm, food and service excellent, as I have tolerance to gluten it was a fantastic afternoon tea.

We went for afternoon tea. Lovely food, nice staff. Had to ask for a takeaway box as we couldn't eat it all.

Fabulous afternoon tea today with my daughter to celebrate my birthday. Must admit we both came away with doggie boxes and were happily full. Great selection and definitely worth having as a treat.

Lovely rural location. The restaurant has a great atmosphere. Very friendly staff. The food was excellent. Delivery of drinks service was not as fabulous as the food, but this is of no complaint as the variety of drinks available (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) was impressive. The restaurant is spacious and full of character. The style suits the location. There are many vegan options on the menu, and the restaurant caters for allergens very well. I will recommend anyone. I will definitely be taking my friends and family there 😊

Me and my mam visited last week and had a tapas tower we really enjoyed the selection of items and was served by Amiee she was amazing and was so informative on items they have due to me being a vegetarian, overall a beautiful place

We only visited the restaurant. We visited as a date night, but can safely say we’d never come back. My mam got married here a few years ago and it was lovely but it was so disappointing to see how downhill it has gone. Ordered chicken strips as a starter- no taste to the chicken, just incredibly dry. Ordered lasagna and a bolognaise pizza. Would appreciate having the fact both dishes came with huge chunks of peppers in noted on the menu. The lasagne was mush- there was no taste to anything. I tried a bite and almost had to spit it out. The bolognaise pizza was almost the same- no taste. The dough was undercooked and chewy, the mince had no taste. The staff were constantly over our shoulders but when it came time to pay, it took 5mins for someone to come and get the bill for us. I felt like I was being punished for not eating the whole pizza. We boxed the remaining slices of pizza up and took it to my brother who also couldn’t eat anymore than 1 slice because it was so bland. £50 for the privilege of tasteless mush, never again!

Wel nearlyl always a problem looking for a good breakfast in the morning normally, but not now superb breakfast with plenty of choice on the menu. Service was superb. This how you should do breakfast well South Causey I will be back.

Went here for food and will be going back. I got the Causey chicken sandwich and so filling. Great atmosphere, dog friendly and so much choice on the menu.

Wife and I come for breakfast. We did not stay here. The breakfast was good and tasty. Fair price for what you get.

Went on a recommendation from friends for the Sunday Carvery and was not disappointed. All the meats were delicious, choice and taste of vegetables were superb, really hard to fault, enjoyed every mouthful (and there was a lot). 100% go back, great value for money with friendly staff and lovely surroundings.

Visited here for a family wake. Specifically a small room to the back of main reception. Room was beautifully decorated with nice touches which had been requested by the family. Food was amazing & customer service was 1st class. Staff were super friendly & could not have done more. We even had an unexpected family medical emergency during the wake & cannot thank all the staff for their support, helpfulness & kindness. All your staff went above & beyond & seriously cannot recommend this place highly enough. Will definitely visit again. Absolutely superb.

I hired a pod to celebrate my 60th birthday as wanted to have a private party for my very special family & friends & it was absolutely perfect I must say a massive thank you to joel though because he was totally amazing nothing was a trouble to him he helped my family & friends set up the pod with balloons etc to make my birthday special & he did he was just amazing ( south Causey he is a total asset to your business what a fantastic member of your team ) food was delicious service was excellent with joel & other servers all in all an a amazing night

We have visited a few times for food and never been disappointed. Arrived just after 6pm friday evening, had not booked but offered a table for 3 no problem. Service and food was excellent. Fish and chips, chilli chicken wrap and kids roast of the day. Waiting staff friendly and attentive. Food was lovely, kids portion perfect. Disappointed we had not left room for dessert however we will return to try one!

Came here with my mam for Sunday dinner & really enjoyed it. They don’t take bookings on a Sunday but we never had to wait for a table. Sue who was our waitress was lovely & friendly.

Well what an amazing experience amazing time and 1 heck of a surprise! This place is magic and the team here couldn’t do enough for us during our stay. My girlfriend treated us to 3 nights on the 1960’s converted route master bus as a 40th birthday present, we enjoyed every second. The service was top drawer, food amazing and it’s not everyday you get to wake up on a bus…… well one this luxurious anyways. Looking forward to returning soon to try out other parts of this amazing hotel. The team here have always wearing a smile and are more than happy to help their guests with anything! Well done guys this is how it’s done!

After a walk around causey arch and gorge we headed the south causey Inn to check in. It was very busy, the check in staff were brilliant directing us to our room, the Dog house (labrador room) which was beautiful (see pictures) everything we needed and more with a chilled bottle of fizz and a nice birthday message for my fiance. We headed off to the bar before our evening meal then to the restaurant, the staff again were brilliant seating us on a table under a tree. The food we ordered was faultless (pictures) after a good night's sleep we headed down for breakfast which again was faultless. Definitely be back 👌🏻

I've had so many lovely meals here in the past but last night's was below average to say the least ! Burger and steak were dry as sticks onion rings like cardboard and chips were cold but for £33 a steak I'd of expected better quality ! Ive also never experienced a cheesecake with the ice cream dumped on top of it ? Overall £130 for 4 meals and 2 desserts when 3 were just burgers and a wrap and were all bang average fast food quality ! Fair to say I won't be going back.

Went for Sunday carvery the staff are so very friendly and welcoming. We all had two meat carvery the Yorkshire pudding was beautiful I got the pulled pork and turkey. The pork was quite fatty for me and the turkey was nice. The veg I like to be cooked well rather than eating half raw. The gravy was also very nice and the little added extras like the extra gravy bowls are fantastic idea. I would definitely go again but wouldn’t get the veg as I wasted it.

Had a themed room . Really loved the room The Smithy ,loved the hot tub spent a few hours in it . We went for dinner and that’s when our fab experience ended . Food is so over rated and massive portions. The waste in that place is unacceptable. I had cod and prawns with seasonal veg . Well I sent it back as was cold to then get a lovely steaming hot dish with unbelievable amount of mash (see photos) . Husband had Chinese chicken curry lovely but had half and half (chips and rice ) far too much for one person . Please please look at your menu and stop over loading food Less is More ..

Gorgeous place to visit. We stayed in a room with a hot tub which was a lovely birthday treat. We had 4 treatments in our room by 2 ladies. All of this after an afternoon tea which were still snacking on late into the night.

We attended our niece's wedding, room setting was lovely . However I can never figure out why bars charge ridiculous prices for soft drinks and zero alcohol lagers , they really do not encourage people to not drink and drive, almost £10 for a zero alcohol bottle and a lemonade

Haven't been to the South Causey, since 2017 when we attended a wedding. I now regret how long I have left it to actually come for another visit. What a place! I really enjoyed it when we attended the wedding in the barn, but today we visited to have afternoon tea and wow! This was the nicest, best value, best presented afternoon tea I've ever had, and I've had many! The Service, from walking through the door to being served our food, to having a drink in the bar etc was second to none. A really lovely team, that really look like thay are genuinely happy to help. Once we had had afternoon tea, we went first for a look around the antique shop which was absolutely amazing, and again lovely service. We of course couldn't leave without making a purchase. We then explored round the grounds. The hotspot bar looks like it would be a fab place to be in the summer and I enjoyed seeing the ducks and chickens. We then went inside again to the bar area and had a drink. I had to have a Duck Pond Cocktail. Absolutely amazing cocktail. Reminded me of the Duck Soup Fat Buddah used to do, but much, much nicer. The decor throughout the inn was great. I loved all of it. Quirky and fun. Really gives the place personality. I couldnt stop looming around to see what else I could spot. Definitely will be back. Was a truly brilliant visit. What a fantastic business.

Attending a wedding there, stayed 2 days at the inn, with other relatives. Service, food, the whole stay was brilliant . Will be returning at some stage.

We recently returned to the South Causey Inn since we had not been for over two years. We needn't have worried, the reality is that nothing had really changed except for maybe some interior work, although not sure since there were lots of Christmas decorations. Same great service - We were immediately asked if we were dining since the bar area was full (afterall it was New Years eve!), nothing was too much trouble and we were seated in the restaurant. We were greeted by Sue who is the ultimate professional ensuring that everything we wanted was taken care of and continually checked in to make sure everything was ok, she is a real credit to the restaurant. In addition Lilly was amazing and ensured that our food and drinks were served swiftly, she was super helpful...thank you. We had the Sunday roast with a few drinks and a sticky toffee pudding to finish, although it was a struggle given the generous portions :). There is a great selection of drinks and some really appetising non alcoholic alternatives since one of us was driving.... If you are looking for great food at extremely good prices you will really enjoy the atmosphere and the ambience of the South Causey Inn, we will definitely visit more often. All my family went for a meal on Saturday the food was excellent I don't know how they did they also had 2 wedding parties plus a baby shower on excellent service

Arrived and felt like we were pounced on by a member of staff. Nice place to visit for Xmas market.arrived early so Had a tea, coffee and 2 scones. Scone was too hard to eat. Had to ask for butter as did others & was spoken to in a grouchy manor.Over £15. Warm inviting tea room. Toilets very basic considering the hotel seems to be up market. I would visit market again but definitely not the tea room.

We attended the George Michael tribbute Christmas party which included a two course dinner, a welcome cocktail & a disco. Food was good, the Old Barn was beautiful and Steve Mitchell & George Michael was incredible. The fisco played appropriate music for the audience and all in all it was a fsb night & we hope Steve will be invited back next year

Booked a table in the snug for our family. What a lovely room, great atmosphere and service. Our waitress Amy was both welcoming and efficient. Drinks order was taken and served within minutes. Our food order was taken when our drinks arrived and again, was served within minutes. Three hunters chicken, one roast of the day and lasagne all extremely well presented and tasty.
