On cricket days especially, excellent value food and drink. Relaxed atmosphere

Food : I had sampi some which were empy breaded shells, mushy peas we had to ask for and arrived mid meal. , Service: Poor, when we finished someone asked 'you finished then answer herself and said yeah' Atmosphere: The tables were sticky and the place smelt. Overall I should have went with my instinct and walked straight back out and saved myself some money.

The Sticky Wicket is a cozy bar/restaurant, however it could now do with a revamp! There is also far too many televisions showing sport, there only really needs to be 2/3 at most! Prices for food & drink are also quite high.

Fuimos a comer el domingo y fue muy agradable. Pedido bebidas y comida en el bar era fácil con servidores amables. El almuerzo del domingo se entregó después de unos 30 minutos y comprendía puré, asados, zanahoria asada, yorkie, brócoli, col roja, queso coliflor, nabo, carne y una jarra de salsa. Los artículos favoritos fueron nabo, asados, yorkie fresco y crujiente, puré y col roja. Lo marqué abajo 1 punto debido a que la carne de res era un toque duro. (el cordero era hermoso según la esposa) ¿Regresaríamos - sin duda.

We visited the Sticky Wicket in the hope of watching a Champions League game the other week, featuring a UK team at a local sports bar. We got there early and finished our food, preparing to watch a match, we enquired which of the games were being shown. At this point we were advised the pub was closing in a few minutes, despite there being a number of tables already seated and the opening hours showing as not due to close for a further 2 hours. Having driven from Durham to a sports bar and watch a match, it was extremely disappointing that we had to leave, miss the start of a game and find another pub in the city centre to watch it instead. It also means we’d be unable to attend in future as we’d be unsure if the pub was going to remain open or not. The food however was superb.

We arrived without booking on a Sunday and thankfully got a table. It was quiet upon arrival and we ordered food and drinks at the bar with ease, thanks to the pleasant staff. The food was absolutely delicious. I had the Pork Belly Sunday Lunch, it was amazing! The meat tasted great and the vegetables were also good, particularly the cauliflower cheese. Yorkshire Pudding large and cooked just right! Service was good and the cost was reasonable! I’d certainly recommend a visit. Please note it can get slightly loud with football teams calling in but we didn’t let it affect our meal.

I've found the food very nice however during most recent visit I don't think they had enough people on in the kitchen so waited nearly an hour for lunch. Was very nice when it arrived.

Couldn't see the menu it was that dark I got the chicken Tika slop in a bowl had to ask for a spoon no taste to it Noticed someone else complaing about the food when I was there Will not hurry back.

Came here for a quick bite before our escape room at Lumley Castle so were there at 5. Totally empty but when left at 6 pretty full. Had loaded bowl with wedges and chicken and got so much I couldn't finish. Linda had halloumi skewer and fries and Daz had burger with black sheep beer which always makes him happy. We booked a large table for my dad's 70th Birthday. The staff were very helpful when booking it. Excellent communication with me about meals etc. On the actual evening the staff were also lovely. The male waiter was friendly and attentive. The chef brought a happy birthday dessert which we didnt expect .Definitely recommend thankyou again. 💖💖

Second time I've been here now, conveniently located next to the gym and they had the Newcastle vs PSG game on. Booking a table was super easy, Beth was great at handling my queries and making the experience great before we even arrived. The staff on shift were very friendly, fast and were always smiling. They know how to pour a good Guinness and the pizza's are so gooood, you can tell they're made fresh! Overall great visit with great staff, plenty of seating with Tv's visible from every seat and I love the Christmas tree you're greeted by when entering.

We had sunday lunch as a group recently at this pub and it was very nice.The price is competitive @ £12 for a main course with desserts and starters available too.There are lots of large tvs showing sports and it is dog friendly with lots of free parking available.The lager is amstel,fosters and moretti which costs £4 -£5 per pint.The service was very friendly and I would advise to book a table as it can get very busy.

We went for a sunday lunch and it was lovely.It was very busy and were fortunate to get a table as there were alot of reserved tables. Ordered drinks and food at the bar was easy with friendly servers. Sunday lunch was delivered after about 20 mins and was very nice. Would I return - most definitely but beware it gets busy on Sundays.

I visited here with my husband for Sunday lunch we bought 2 beef baps and a Sunday lunch to take out for my daughter the quality of food has gone downhill and the manager seriously needs to start quality checking the food coming out of the kitchen it cost us £45 and the beef was so chewy and tough you couldn’t cut through it, the water was like gravy the potatoes were of frozen quality and had been way over cooked and they served a beef bap in a seeded burger bun, it was horrendous, I emailed to complain after not being able to speak with a manager in person and had no response, don’t waste your hard earned money here!

I frequent this place on a regular basis and every visit gets better and better. Located in the heart of Durhams’s cricket ground this place is the very definition of a hidden gem. Not only is it a perfect place to watch sport, with its plethora of televisions but also the food there is the best I’ve ever had in a pub. In addition to this the team are absolutely phenomenal. They really can’t do enough for you. Due to a grim turn in the weather there was a flood today and the service was still as impeccable as ever. So Erin, Milly, Neve, Saskia, Molly, Holly, Beth, Luke and Keisha a big well done, yous really do make this place what it is.

Food was aweful NEVER EATEN AGAIN THERE..frozen food tastes better. Only thing good was the atmosphere and the lay out with good wide screen tv's for sport

This is a sports bar at Durham Cricket ground. The food is fine, i had the parmo which was lovely and they do gluten free food. The place could do with a bit if a spruce up and the sports on the wall screen was uncomfortably bright. Average.

We came here for a meal with friends on a quiet day for the ground after an appointment. The venue was quiet which for us was ideal as some of the party are neurodivergent and struggle in busy places. The food was demolished by our entire group including desserts! I ordered a light bite bean chilli wrap and it was huge really couldn't fault the food at all. The staff were polite and given the size of our orders worked so well together to organise our food coming out together and ensuring everyone got the right food and if we needed anything else. Our party also had allergies and they catered for them with ease although I would recommend contacting them ahead of your visit just to be on the safe side. I will definitely be returning, great value for money. There is parking available inside the cricket ground with overflow and access to the venue is ground floor and all on one level. Disabled toilet are easy to locate also.

Food was very good and service was quick will try again

I found the sticky wicket to be dirty, tables not cleaned, toilets are a disgrace, nothing available to even dry your hands, staff incapable of providing a decent example of customer service, all in all we won’t be back to this badly run establishment.

Called ahead to order food (Sundays dinner) very helpful staff. Food arrived very quickly and was delicious.

All good will be back great setting.

Terribly dissapointing this time around.

Had a sunday lunch here recently and it was very nice.The service was very friendly and the lunch for £11 was lovely with my only room for improvement would be that the veg for the lunch would be the same size for everybody as they were not.Not sure about the table reservation process as a table empty for approx 50 mins seems a waste? We shall return.

We had our engagement party at the sticky wicket, we hired out the entire place and paid for a buffet. I couldn’t recommend them higher! The staff were so approachable and friendly, even gushed over pictures of our new puppy! They went above and beyond to accommodate our 150+ guests and everyone has said they had an amazing time and the venue was gorgeous! It’s decorated so pretty and it didn’t take much to make it perfect for our party. They sorted it out with our event stylist and by the time we arrived the whole place was sorted and ready for our guests. Would happily tell anyone to plan an event at the Sticky Wicket! 🫶🏼 El & Joe

I'm biased as I'm not a football or sports bar fan. We enjoyed a Friday night quiz here with friends. Not a cosy real ale pub but, of course that's not what everyone goes for. Roomy and pleasant.

We go here quite regularly, even more so when the nice weather comes. It is actually situated inside the grounds of the Durham Cricket Club. We met up with our family on Saturday night and the rugby was on. What a great atmosphere, it’s an ideal place for any sport fan as the big screens are fantastic. The staff are super friendly and helpful. I was in my element as the place had a few dogs in and I got to meet the lovely Lola, bullmastiff pup. After the rugby the customer numbers dwindled and they choose to close at 9pm, which suited us as we had a taxi booked then. They have a good selection of drinks and a great food menu to choose from. It also has to be one of the best pints in the whole of the town. Can’t wait to go back

We visited The Sticky Wicket for Sunday lunch and were very happy with our experience. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was very good, really good sized helpings. Glad we passed on starters, otherwise we wouldn't have had room for puddings, which were lovely. We can thoroughly recommend a visit. Thanks to all the staff for giving us a lovely time

Excellent atmosphere, kind and welcoming staff and wonderful food / drinks! Wide selection of meats on offer for Sunday lunch and ample portion sizes. Excellent value for money. I had the Pork Sunday dinner with friends and can honestly say was the best Sunday dinner I’ve ever had (don’t tell my grandma), service was so good as well and all really reasonable priced!!

We booked a table specifically to watch match at 5.30. Table was great but sound was from other tvs in bar. Ordered our food and took a while to be served. Antipasti haring platter was nice and plentiful. Ribs and chicken strips ok. Main of steak ciabatta mediocre, dirty burger was nice, pepperoni pizza covered in grease. Wrong pinot grigio given, (blush) miserable staff and calling customers. No one cleared our table and i had to as to be cleared. I was given an apology and told the clearing staff had gone to the match! The tomato sauce was certainly NOT heinz in the heinz bottle. No one advised me where the condiments were. Quite a disappointing evening. £70 for food for 4 people not including drinks. £20 a round for 4 people. I realise the cost of eating out and support local business. This establishment is overpriced. The waiting g staff are miserable, it is disorganised and slow service for overpriced, fried in old fat food. #gordonramsay

Family catch up, chose the Sticky Wicket because of its location and good reviews and I have to say we were not disappointed. Lovely 3 course Sunday lunch at a very reasonable price, there were 8 of us in our group and all thoroughly enjoyed it. Staff were very helpful, we will definitely be making a return visit.

Great bar, good service and friendly staff.

Had two pizzas on the buy one get one free offer on a Thursday and also a portion of loaded fries. Food was fabulous and pizzas absolutely loaded. Staff probably the most friendly I've experienced, tall bloke with a beard was very kind and helpful which makes the world of difference. Red hot sat out the front as well. 100% would return.

Went for dinner last week for the first time and I was completely blown away with how good the food was. I ordered the sweet chilli chicken wings, they were the best I’ve ever had. Juicy on the inside, crispy on the out side and I love that the sauce was separate so I could choose how much I wanted on each wing instead of it being smothered. My partner had the steak, he’s can be a hard man to please with his food but the first thing he said when he cut in to it was it was cooked spot on. I had the nachos for main and asked for extra jalapeños, the chef did not hold back. It was clean plates all round and I will 100% be going back. The food is well cooked, tasty and the price is so reasonable!

Food is below average and take an age to come. Me and Mrs. Had fish and chips.... 1 was about half the size of the other. Got the pizza nachos... the nachos themselves were nice but the pizza sauce was clearly just taken out the fridge and dumped on and made for a strange eat as everything else was warm. Little ones fish finger were more like fish bites which he wouldn't entertain and they came with dirty bits of batter all over like the fat needed changing in the pan. With 2 drinks everything came 2 £44..... not even close to worth it. Saving grace is the staff are great.

Popped in on the 24/3/22 with my partner and 6 month old son, drinks were lovely my partner and I both had cocktails that were 2 for £12 so would’ve been rude not to!! Food was absolutely fantastic plus any leftovers we had we got to take home with us which is a bonus, great service, really friendly staff, high chairs available for little ones!!
