Popped into Three Horseshoes today the staff are friendly the whole place is spotless and the food excellent would recommend it and will be back

Impeccably run pub hotel with charming bar.

The premises are presented 1st class. Superb housekeeping. The staff are absolutely 1st class. Very friendly and pleasant. Getting served at the bar is painful. The staff are too busy to serve customers at the bar. The rooms are well appointed. Very comfy bed, but the bathroom in room one is very tight for use. The worst part of our visit was the food. It's just not nice. I wouldn't recommend the prawn cocktail. The sauce was like wallpaper paste, and the breakfast consisted of over dry overcooked hash brown, I have never had crispy and crunch black pudding. All said, the stay was well priced.

Stayed here on our way up to Scotland. The room was lovely, well equipped and spacious. The staff are amazing, so friendly and helpful. Would definitely visit again

Lovely gastro pub with excellent menu choices.

Having not been for a while, decided to call in after a day in Durham. The car park looked busy, but we were shown to a table immediately. Decided to go for the roast, which is on the menu all the time even though it was a weekday & my companion ordered the fish & chips. The beef was lovely, very tender & a fairly decent amount. The yorkshire pudding was as most pub yorkshires, tough & fairly inedible. The disappointment were the vegetables- one floret of broccoli, 2 slivers of carrot There was a spoonful of mash on the plate with a couple of 'roast' potatoes. However, can't mark it down because on paying for the meals they deducted 20% off the bill because we had ordered between 5.00 & 6.30 p.m! Come on Horseshoes, veg isn't expensive & why spoil the ship for a ha'porth of tar.

Love the food here. Just had Sunday lunch beef melted in my mouth, dad had lamb he said it was delicious. Plenty of vegetables and gravy. Best to book as it gets very busy. Service is great and friendly.

1st time dissappointed with food..wanted camembert to share with wine....dont want salad on side.just want basic good bar snack.. dissappointed.love the bar vibe great oub.....

We often come here and the last few times we have been served by Olivia. Olivia is an absolute asset to your business, she can’t do enough to ensure your dining experience is 5 star. We will definitely be returning due to the service we received

I came with my sons for Sunday lunch. I called in advance to check that they served a gluten free option & was assured that they did. On arrival the waitress looked baffled by my request for a GF menu, I was told the chef would make any of the roasts GF. When the lunches arrived my plate looked like a child’s serving, I had half of what my sons had. The only thing that was GF was the gravy, they didn’t serve any roast potatoes, stuffing or any other accompaniments. I had meat, carrots & mash potatoes. I was charged the same price as a normal roast but for half a portion. Total rip off, will not be returning.

The rooms were really nice and clean and was well equipped telly,kettle with coffee tea milk and sugar there also a hair dryer. The on suite shower room was a bit tight but it did the job and was really clean.All the staff very friendly, nice and very helpful. We had booked bed and breakfast and the breakfast was excellent and so was the service. Definitely use this place again.

Lovely room - good value for money. Whole establishment fitted out to a very high standard, including the bar and restaurant areas. Very busy place - going like a fair when we stayed. Even breakfasts had walk-ins off the street. Its quite close to the M1 - we could see it clearly from our window so some outside traffic noise but not apparent in the room with windows closed. One thing that we noticed, and probably because of the walk-ins was that there isn't the usual breakfast buffet for cereals, juice etc , its all ordered from the menu - restaurant style, so remember to ask for orange juice toast if you are a resident etc. Definitely recommend booking for dinner as its a very busy place. They were able to advise on gluten free options although they don't have a separate fryer for chips etc. There was even a gluten free beer on draught on our first night but sadly off on the second. Service was quick and efficient and very attentive. Special shout out to the lovely 70+ year old housekeeper who asked us about our stay as we were leaving.

Arrive at hotel on Sunday the 17 March, a birthday treat on the 18th March for my wife up. We was here to meet to meet yp with friends we met in Egypt. Check in was so easy , are friends where already here in the pub side of the business. Spent the rest of the time in the pub , then went for meal in the evening superb meal . Monday morning breakfast was lovely and so hot and tasty. Then spent the rest of the day sight seeing for my wife's birthday and visited a few oldie World pub in Durham City centre.then back to hotel a few ore drinks and finally an evening meal . Today Tuesday just chilling out in room now . Waiting on are friends to arrive later on as they live locally to hotel. Good mix of drinks Food is to die for always piping hot . Very disappointing - pork Sunday lunch. Tiny amount of vegetables, 2 thin slices of cheap pork, tastless gravy and a tiny pot of tinned mushy peas. Lovely staff but won't be back.

Had a Lovely Breakfast here. Very responsible Price plus free Juice. Quality of products very good especially the black pudding. Will definitely being going back for more. Breakfast is 9am to 11.30am.

Booked at short notice, and considering it is Saturday before Mothering Sunday, they squeezed me and my mother in. On seeing she had limited mobility, walking with 2 sticks they ensured the table had easy access for her. The staff where extremely friendly, helpful and attentive. Considering how busy it was, the order was taken and food delivered very quickly. Thes very absolutely amazing, and though we didn't order dessert they looked amazing as they where carried past us. Highly recommended and now my mother is planning all family birthdays here. I for onecare looking forward to the revisits.

Visited the Three Horse Shoes for my mother’s birthday. Staff were very welcoming and showed us to our seats and took our drinks straight away. Good selection of different dishes on the menu. There is something for everyone. I opted for The Shoe Stack Burger with homemade chips and slaw. The burger included a beef patty, chicken breast bacon and cheese, a proper mouthful and the chips were tasty. Very filling, struggled to finish the lot. Lovely quaint pub, close to Durham. Would certainly recommend when in the area. Will be visiting again.

Have visited a few times recently. Last time with family as a group of 7. Cannot fault anything about our visit. The menu offers a really good choice and the prices are reasonable. The food and service were excellent. The staff are friendly and attentive and the place , both the restaurant and the bar area,has a really nice atmosphere. Members of the family who hadn’t previously visited have said they’ll definitely come again. Highly recommended.👍

We made our usual booking by phone for Sunday lunch. However, when we turned up this time there was no booking made on the list for Steve and we were directed into the bar area to order a drink and wait, which was so full there was hardly any standing room. We waited 10 minutes to be served and gave up, returning to the restaurant area. We enquired whether we would be allocated a table and we were told that we would have to wait until the 2pm service was seated to see if there was a spare table available. There were absolutely so many people queued out of the door waiting to be seated for 2pm. We have never seen the place so busy before. We felt totally disregarded and let down and chose to leave and find an alternative lunch elsewhere (which we did). Doubtful if we will choose to return after our totally shabby experience this time. I know my husband made the booking from his phone call history and do not doubt him for a minute. What is the point of telephoning and making a booking for lunch if it is disregarded and not made?? Why would you do that to customers?? Highly unaccaptable and complete lack of customer service.

What a gem of a place. Elegant, comfortable rooms. Smart, fresh bathroom. Great atmosphere in the bar and restaurant. Good food. Lovely, friendly, welcoming staff. Easily accessible for my mother in her wheelchair. Loved the Roast of the day with veg and huge yorkshire pudding. First time here and will definitely be returning to try other dishes.

We booked one night and it was just perfect. Very clean, comfortable room, lovely food and excellent staff. We would certainly return .

I chose this Hotel because of its proximity to my days work. What an absolute gem of a find. The Hotel is also a regular public house , but don’t let that put you off. The dining area is a modern addition and very tastefully decorated. The Staff are most pleasant and welcoming. But here is the best thing, the price of a fantastically comfortable bedroom with a fantastic breakfast INCLUDED in the price.. I’ve stayed in lesser quality hotels that have cost more and provided a lot less. If you are ever in this area and in need of a quality stopover… this is the place to come

2nd visit here and it was as good as I remember, great warm welcome by Daryl the owner and attentive staff Seated in a very nice area with very comfortable chairs drinks order taken and menus delivered, cask ales are to die for shame I had to drive 🥲 The menu was extensive with a Valentine’s special menu but still kept on the Wednesday Curry special offer which looked very tasty and good value I had to start black pudding with peppercorn sauce and my wife had fondue both fantastic and served piping hot, then onto mains Surf & Turf 10 oz Ribeye and a good portion of garlic prawns and Caledonian Chicken both fantastic and the steak one of the best I have ever had, cooked to perfection medium rare high praise considering the amount of steak I have eaten in my life and well traveled To finish 2 of the best traditional deserts sticky toffee pudding and bread and butter pudding with a twist great finish to a great meal and experience The only slight fault was drinks service was slightly slow but considering how busy the place was easily forgiven Last but not least all the staff are friendly and charming a credit to themselves and obviously great training from management A great local gem

Lovely atmosphere and delicious food

I really enjoyed visiting The Three Horseshoes on a Friday evening with friends. We enjoyed very good pub food in a relaxed environment. I thought the Timothy Taylor Landlord beer was excellent too. Service was attentive and chatty. The pub has a decent-sized car park, so parking up was no problem despite The Three Horseshoes being busy.

I love eating there. Beautiful food, wonderful staff. Just make sure you reserve a table in advance or you may have to wait for a table to become available.

Came for lunch with friends on a Wednesday and still busy. Very tastefully renovated with nice ambiance and beautiful view over the countryside. Massive menu and hard to decide. My wife loved the Mussels and my Corned beef had a lovely crust although not so much corned beef and mostly potato. Other than that minor comment we had a nice time and really enjoyed it. Would be happy to return.

Called here at last minute looking for food after moving our caravan to Durham. Great priced Sunday lunch tasty and enough on the plate , extra gravy was available. Will now use this place when at our caravan.

Never fails to impress ,what a fantastic lunch we had today the food was amazing as usual. We had two course from the light lunch menu which was amazing.All of the staff here are fantastic and very friendly especially our waitress EL who was a brilliant member of staff . We will definitely be back again to sample more great food and wonderful ale .... Thank you everyone.

An excellent breakfast yet again. Staff were very pleasant. It was my wife's birthday and they presented her with a small bottle of Prosecco for her birthday. A lovely touch.

My husband and I had the most amazing breakfast/brunch. Smashed avocado and poached eggs for me, and Bury style eggs (with bacon and black pudding) for my husband. Fast service, friendly staff, and the food was well presented, hot, and delicious. We'll definitely be back.

I’ve came here a couple of times now and both times have been really good. The food is at a high standard and I wish I lived closer to go more often.

Great pub, great food and great service

We have become regulars here, on almost a weekly basis, over the past four months - and are never disappointed with either the food or the service. Great choice of meals on the standard menu, with the early evening price deal, as well as plenty of delicious choices on the ‘Specials’ menus. Service is always prompt and friendly and we have yet to leave feeling disappointed. In terms of quality of food, price and service, I challenge anyone to find a better place!

Food was excellent but it took ages for someone to come and take the order…. For 5 adults. 4 meals arrived but we had to ask for the 5th. We ordered second drinks but they never arrived so we cancelled and paid the bill. We have eaten here many times but never been so disappointed with the service. Sadly it seemed an apology was not considered.

What can I say, my favourite pub in the Durham area. They're hot beef sandwich is to class.

Visited yesterday , Christmas Day 2023 for lunch . The food was amazing . I was with family in a party of 4 . The restaurant was totally full . What an amazing experience . The atmosphere was warm and welcoming , the staff were lovely . Nothing was too much trouble . All of our dishes were exceptional . We were met with canapés and Buck’s Fizz . Followed by a choice of soup then a starter . The turkey was delectable , moist and succulent .Loved The fact we were offered a Yorkshire pudding with our turkey. My mum and nephew chose beef which was extremely tender and tasty . Desserts were gorgeous . We weren’t rushed between courses or to leave after we were finished . My sister often visits for a meal in the week and never has a complaint , she says the food is always very good . I live in the South East and have eaten out on Xmas day and I have never experienced food of this standard especially on Christmas Day .

We called in yesterday, hoping to get lunch. As it was 4 days before Christmas & we hadn't booked, we were expecting to be told there was nothing available or that we may have a long wait! Happily, staff were very accommodating & rearranged tables in order to seat us - virtually straight away. Despite it being very busy & them saying that we might feel a bit squashed in where we were, the restaurant didn't feel overcrowded. Although they were offering an extensive Christmas menu, we were pleasantly surprised to see all the usual menu options were still available. Our orders were taken within minutes of us being seated & our food & drink arrived promptly. I opted for the slow braised silverside of beef, which was served with mash, peppercorn sauce & vegetables. It was delicious. My husband chose the 'Shoes Stack' burger, which consisted of beef burger, chicken breast, bacon & melted cheddar. It came with fries, salad & coleslaw. He thoroughly enjoyed it. We were also impressed by the staff - from the lady who greeted us at the bar & was so accommodating, to the cheerful, friendly waitress who took our food order - the level of customer service was first rate particularly considering what a busy time of year it is for the hospitality industry. Thank you for a lovely dining experience.

A satisfactory experience on the whole. Food was hot and portions were generous. Chips were those soggy pre cooked type which I never really understand. They will not win any prizes for their fine cuisine but canny enough.

Occassion- Christmas School reunion. First time to stay in the hotel. Absolutely stunning rooms, all recently refurbished to the highest standard, 5 rooms all differently decorated, beautiful and for the price to stay over night highly recommended. Restaurant- very modern area, decor makes the whole place inviting. Staff- friendly and very helpful. Food - very tasty with good portions. Would I return- most definitely. Well done to all involved in the running of the place

Lovely Christmas do with ex colleagues. Place was heaving when we arrived and squeezed into last parking bay but there is another car park a little further down. Staff were all sooo young but really friendly to us old dears who were also celebrating a 60th ( thankfully not quite mine !!) Food was delicious but a little cool. Prawn cocktail and mushroom and squash crepe very good 👍 😋. We had a cake for our friend's birthday and this was brought out with a chorus of happy birthday and then divided up. Often come here and food is always good and judging by the full car park I'm not the only one who thinks that

Brilliant as always. Fabulous Christmas dinner, could not fault the service. Daryl in evidence and always observing what goes on. If you want time to relax over a meal this is a really good place. Staff helpful and pleasant. Yet again can’t fault it.

We were greeted by Amy who took us to our room and gave important information. We stayed here overnight in a comfortable and clean newly refurbished room. Decor and quality of the fittings was excellent and we had a good nights sleep. In the morning...

Superb room (No. 5), best I've ever stayed in. Wonderfully quiet despite being a stone's throw from the A1, all furniture & fittings top quality. Efficient and courteous staff. Breakfast was equally fabulous! Not the cheapest, but worth every penny. Highly recommended.

First time going with the family. Warm welcome and friendly staff made off to a great start. The menu choices were very good and lots to choose from including daily specials menu. I had the fish and chips (haddock) and was amazing would recommend it and we will be back.

Had a lovely evening meal with two friends. The Garden Room is very welcoming as are the staff and excellent menu choices.

We called in for lunch on a Saturday afternoon and we were absolutely delighted. Choosing from extensive menus, my partner had Lamb Gyro Flatbred that she said was amazing, whereas I chose the 10oz Ribeye, which was cooked perfectly. Following the mains, we had Chocolate Fudge Cake with Ice Cream and Traditional Apple Crumble with Custard and both were delicious. We would unreservedly recommend The Three Horseshoes and we'll be heading back soon. Highly recommended.

First visit tonight food was delicious red hot and tasty .just shame we waited 30 mins for food people came after us were served first then the waitress realised they lost the chitty for kitchen .we did get an extra 10% off the bill for long wait .were very big on customer service as its our jobs.bit dissapoing even the couple on next table wondered were our food was !they came after us to .plus it was very quiet so no excuse should of been picked up on earlier !

Fab staff, attentive service and great vegan menu!! We went Saturday night and was absolutely over the moon to see seperate vegan menu for us, Being local ,we love to eat out regularly and have been struggling.Our waitress was a young woman Olivia who was very friendly and professional she did her very best for us .Will definitely be regulars now we have a choice of more than one thing to eat!!
